  • Going natural is a huge decision in any not - yet - naturals life. Arguably, it's one of the hardest parts of the natural hair journey to just make the decision to get started.
    Not only does it effect your relaxed tresses that you're so used to seeing, but it's also tied to an inner beauty and self esteem struggle that few other processes bring out of you the way making the decision to go natural does.
    But you know this - that's why you're struggling with taking the plunge. And that's completely understandable - going natural is something that should be taken seriously and done only when you're ready so that it is as beautiful and successful a journey that you know it can be. So...are you ready to go natural? Let's watch this video and find out.

    This video was perfect timing! I’m transitioning, and slowlyyyy cutting my chemical ends. My left side is wayyy damaged than my right side and I don’t want to lose my length so much. And I don’t want my hair to be uneven. That’s what stoping me from going completely natural. I can’t wait till I have the courage to end my transitioning process.

    • @CollegeCurls
      @CollegeCurls  4 роки тому +6

      I definitely understand being nervous about giving up that length you're used to - I planned to transition for 2 years just so I didn't have to give it up, but ended up chopping at 9 months because it was too much for me to handle lol. Nothing wrong with taking your time with transitioning though - you kinda get to have your cake and eat it too as far as length is concerned! One potentially motivating thing I can say though is you may be surprised at how fast your new growth actually grows in once you do free it of your relaxed ends. Best of luck

    Because of the corona virus quarantine I had to do my own hair and started researching the best products to use on my hair. Eventually, I realized that I was transitioning to natural whether I wanted to or not. There was no way I was going to try to relax my own hair. Over time, I realized I liked the feel of my new growth and started to cater to it. I became more confident in doing my own hair, trying different things, and then fell in love with the idea of going natural. I received more complements after doing my own hair, than I'd received after salon visits. Re-opening hair salons has really put me at a crossroads. I did accept the appointment from my stylist, but I told her that I didn't want my hair relaxed. So, I guess I'm on this journey.

      Love this story and how something as beautiful as embracing your curls came from the seemingly dark situation of the quarantine ! What an inspiration! 💕 And yes, you are in this journey - you got this! And you can always start going to natural hair salons if you want that pampered feel and don’t want to do your hair all the time ☺️

    Soooo cuteeeeeee. This video made me emotional and made me shed happy tears. I trust the journey. I never meant to straighten my hair, it was the stylist that brainwashed me into thinking that the kerashine treatment would help me get rid of the frizz but instead it straightened my hair. I almost have a pixie cut, close to boy cut, And I Cant wait to see my curly hair growing out,

    • @CollegeCurls
      @CollegeCurls  4 роки тому +4

      Valid reasons to be concerned for sure. I do recommend transitioning before big chopping since you are a little anxious about how you’ll look - you’ll at least be working with a few cute inches that way once you chop and it can help you get more comfortable with the idea of chopping when you’re ready. It’s completely normal to be excited and anxious, shows you’re taking it serious. You got this 💕

    I started my journey in high school. My hair was badly heat damaged but I started doing more protein treatments and deep conditioning. I still wore weave and twist . It took me 3 or 4 years to start wearing my natural hair outside because I was afraid of my family and society talking mess about me; but then I was in a country with no weave and my twist had gotten old and decided to just wear my hair and I never looked back ❤️

    after 15 years of weaves, wigs and hair and scalp damage, my decision to go natural came out of the blue. The weaves and left my hair brittle and broken off and my edges were damaged so bad that a weave could no longer cover them. So I went to wigs. By this time I had combpeltely given up on my hair. My scalp was so flaky and crusted that it would bleed, ugh! Fearing a scalp infection, I committed myself to washing my hair at least once a week and oiling my scalp. I would braid my hair into one small plat in the back and slap my wig on. After two years, I began to notice that I had to take extra care to make sure that my (now) ponytail did not hang out from my wig. Though my hair was still thin and my edges were still in poor condition, I began to research natural hair growth methods to help my hair. I started using rice water, Aloe and castor oil. In 4 months my hair was past my shoulder blades (12 inches)! Because of all the earlier breakage and damage, I would just trim the ends. No big chop.
    So here is the kicker! My goal was to go back to a relaxer! Why? This is truly where my hair damage all started. I then came to You Tube to learn about the natural hair movement and I experienced ALL 5 of the steps you mentioned! I have 3C-4A type thin hair. My first try at a wash and go was a huge success. I LOVE MY CURLS!!

    The thing that is holding me back, is that I'm kind of scared how long will it take to my hair to grow... I'm going to 7th grade this summer and I'm kind of scared of it and what people will think. I know that I should not care, but it's hard.

      That makes perfect sense and it’s normal to care what people think (a little secret: everyone pretty much does, they just act like they don’t). Transitioning is a great option for you though if you don’t want to immediately chop AND you can grow your hair out in the process. I’m just curious to see what my hair looks like in its unprocessed state since I’ve been relaxing since I was around 9 years old. I’m undecided because I’m really attached and in love with my relaxed hair, the straight hair is something I’ve been use to so much of my life. So I’m scared of how I would look and also I can’t comb my hair in any of the natural styles. Also I just want to reach a place to go natural when the decision comes from my heart and not from any influence of me needing to prove my blackness or whatever but I want to do it because it’s just simply something that I want to do.

I think I have a handle on it now and I’ve been buying a lot of products but now find myself actually using natural things like rice water, onions, aloe vera, ginger etc. It’s actually cheap and works well. Great question and honestly it depends on your hair! If your feel it needs it then by all means do so, but from my own experience with my 4c low porosity hair I find that I tend to need something heavier - like a moisturizing cream - instead of a mist to keep my hair moisturized. Mists work great for me for a burst of moisture during the day though! Or even at night after my moisturizing routine just so I get some of the extra benefits it has to offer! :)

      CollegeCurls I keep my hair and my daughters hair in twists since we’re in quarantine. I wash our hair weekly. Would doing the LCO method mid week be too much manipulation for our hair? We live in Las Vegas and it’s very dry here. I’m trying to figure out how to keep our hair moisturized without too much manipulation to our hair.

    • @CollegeCurls
      @CollegeCurls  4 роки тому +1

      Nope, that shouldn’t be too much manipulation at all since you already are watchful of how much you’re handling it. And with the drier climate you have to deal with, it may just be the midweek moisture boost that you both need! If you need more information on either the LCO method, LOC method, or other great ways to moisturize, here’s a link to my playlist all about moisturizing: m.ua-cam.com/play/PL0wyl0fL24AHsVn-JHVntwVJl29R3N50H.html 😊💕
