Just to say brother what a great addition to your kayak adventures. A game changer to help get you smoothly and efficiently from here to there. Your complete install was successful as shown on your first water excursion and a good test would be during more stressful times during a tournament and see the reaction with your fishing time. Thanks for sharing your install it looks really awesome to your kayak can’t wait to see it in action At full speed, tight lines take care and God bless!
@granvillej3316 thank you my friend! I've got a tournament coming up Saturday, so I'll find out just how much of a help it will be. You are very appreciated!!

@B_Ritt70 I am glad you found this useful. I just fished a tournament on Saturday using the trolling motor all day. It was nice to not have Jello legs at the end of the day and I covered more water than I normally would. With that being said, there were situations where I wished I had my PDL unit. I'm going to make a video soon discussing the pros and cons of this setup, I hope you'll check it out. It worked great...and I am happy I have it, but it's definitely different. Thanks for watching!
@fishingwithhouse thank you House! I'm excited to get it out this weekend. I have a tournament Saturday so I'll learn a lot about how it performs under stress 😬 😂. Thanks again!
@Eightmile_Drifter thank you friend! Yes, you will see it for sure this weekend. I've got it registered already and some red/green nav lights on the front. I'm ready to go! Looking forward to seeing y'all!!!
@@jonesronny33 thank you man, that's a really cool thing to say! If you decide to do this, I would do one thing different. I would buy the Newport trolling motor mount and simplify matters. It would save some money, eliminate the need for the transom clamp, and transom mount. Everything else would be the same and the functioning would be the same. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@txmexnittro thank you! That's a pretty cool father's day present!!! It works really good but if I had it to do over again, the mount I would use is the pontoon trolling motor mount for Newport. I didn't discover it until after I made my modification. Check it out if you decide to do this...it would make it a cleaner set-up. Thank you for watching and commenting!!!
It may be the camera but it looks like that propeller on that motor has a wobble. Someone else mentioned you may want to check your local game commission to see if you need to register your kayak being as it has a motor now. Usually it's cheaper than the ticket. Other than that your gona love that set up.
@monzsterman hello friend. Thank you for watching! You might be right about the wobble...do you reckon that might be the reason for the head vibration at the higher speeds? Yes, I have already licensed and registered the yak and I added some navigation lights to the front. She's legal now 😆
That can cause a wobble for sure. I noticed that in the video also. I have a motor that down video but you wouldn't have to do that just take the propeller nut off and make sure it's seated on the pin correctly. If it is run the motor without the propeller and see if the shaft is bent. if it is take it back and get another. If you still have a issue with head wobble after that try putting the motor deeper in the water to see if it goes away. I have run into that also. Good luck!
This is great! Can you provide clarity on list of parts and your recommendations in the comments. Does the Newport pontoon mount replace the following 3 parts: 1. Brocraft Mount 2. Minn Kota Transom Mount 3. Floor Flange
Yes, those items would no longer be needed. Although the transom mount comes with the trolling motor, but I would just take it off. My setup the way it is in the video works great, I just saw the pontoon mount afterwards and thought "damn that would be even better". Just cleaner looking and less parts needed.
@@roums555 it's been really good. Very easy to use and navigate. The biggest drawback has been the lack of instant reverse like what the PDL can give you. The biggest plus has been saving energy and the amazing turning radius. If you haven't seen the video I did comparing the kayak to my Bass Raider, check out the first half of the video where I do a speed and agility test. I don't use the motor every time I go out... I let the body of water and the terrain decide if I'm going to peddle or power.
@thatfishingnoob yeah, it's a difference maker for some bodies of water. And it's a pretty easy install. I watched your frog only tournament a couple of nights ago, that's unique. I've never caught anything on a frog before, but I seldom ever throw one. Thank you for watching!!
@@yakkittymack yes sir! I even looked at the ePDL. Like you said, for some bodies of water it would be fantastic. I think overall it would help cover more water too. Nice build.....question: why did you say you popped out the insert plate as normal before deploying the motor setup? Wouldn't you normally have pedal drive in but propped up until deeper water. Are saying you have a blank plate in until you're ready to use the trolling motor?
@@jdinoldsmar thank you for watching and commenting! Yes, I have a blank plate that I keep in at all times until I am ready to deploy my PDL or Motor. It's nice for keeping water out and to keep me from dropping anything into the water. A lot of people make them from thick plastic or cutting boards, I bought mine from Navarre Kayak for $75. Appreciate you! Tight lines my friend!!!
Great video! Great editing! A very concise explanation of motorizing a kayak. I really wonder if I should motorize mine. I tend to go to 100 acre ponds with a lot of weeds. It's not a lot of distance to cover and I'm constantly raising the PDL drive to get through the mess. But maybe if I had a motor I would go to bigger waters? I'll be curious how this goes for you. How does it work on windy days? How does it work in reverse? How long does the battery last? It seems like the battery life will depend on how windy it is. How hard is it to untangle 20 pounds of weeds from the prop while the wind keeps pushing you deeper into the slop? There is a bit of a learning curve with this motor stuff so the real question for me is whether I prefer to keep things simple or add capabilities to my kayak. Thanks for a great video, Jeff!
Thank you so much! I'm happy you enjoyed it. Yeah, I'm gonna learn a lot about how well this performs once I'm in a variety of conditions. My plan for heavy weeds is to raise the motor and paddle. It's not ideal, but it's also my approach with the PDL unit, so the motor doesn't change that. I'll find out a lot more on Saturday, I have a tournament, so 9 hours on a river should provide some good info. Stay tuned.... I envision an after dark episode in the future 😂 thanks again! @jasonm1884
