    This is great! Can you provide clarity on list of parts and your recommendations in the comments. Does the Newport pontoon mount replace the following 3 parts: 1. Brocraft Mount 2. Minn Kota Transom Mount 3. Floor Flange

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack 4 дні тому

      Yes, those items would no longer be needed. Although the transom mount comes with the trolling motor, but I would just take it off. My setup the way it is in the video works great, I just saw the pontoon mount afterwards and thought "damn that would be even better". Just cleaner looking and less parts needed.

      @@roums555 it's been really good. Very easy to use and navigate. The biggest drawback has been the lack of instant reverse like what the PDL can give you. The biggest plus has been saving energy and the amazing turning radius. If you haven't seen the video I did comparing the kayak to my Bass Raider, check out the first half of the video where I do a speed and agility test. I don't use the motor every time I go out... I let the body of water and the terrain decide if I'm going to peddle or power.

    Map study is a huge deal also, do as much research as you can on bass behavior and seasonal patterns and bass highways. You can take that knowledge and look at navionics and have your high percentage areas picked out before you ever get on the water. Then it’s just and matter of ruling out water. I think it is Gerald swindle that talks about his practices and if he doesn’t find fish in an area in practice then it’s not a waste you just ruled out water so you know where you aren’t going to go. That’s one of the hardest things for me is not fishing history. I’ll keep going back to the same areas and getting the same results but that’s where you gotta get out of that comfort zone.

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack 4 дні тому

      @redclayoutdoors we sound kinda similar based on this and your previous comment. I will also keep going back to the same well expecting different results. It's crazy I know, but I'm kinda lost on what to do different. Studying a map would help...as long as I could figure out what I was looking at. I also gotta try to get better at understanding the data my depth finder is giving me. I see a bunch of "stuff" but have no real understanding of what I'm looking at. Thank you again for watching and helping. Time on the water is important, but I'm a firm believer that absorbing knowledge from others is vitally important too.

    Hey, great video. I am an amateur kayak angler myself and still trying to figure out how to get better and be more consistent. I’ll tell you one big difference I see from the guys winning the tournaments compared to myself is they are covering more water. They are going farther and fishing harder. Covering miles of water and fishing in places that I’m not yet totally comfortable with. Knowledge on bass behavior and seasonal patterns is huge but still have to be willing to cover the water to find them.

      @redclayoutdoors Thank you! I just subbed to your channel and can wait to see some of your approach. I agree with you on covering water, I've seen the same thing in my tournaments. However, just as a side note, our last tournament we had 11 anglers and we all launched from the same ramp at a creek that we had to travel about 15 minutes to get out to the main lake and fingers. 10 of us did just that....the guy that won, never left the creek. LOL 😂 and he won by a lot and he's one of the guys that I talked about that is always in contention. So he knew something the rest of us didn't. But, that is the exception...usually those guys cover some serious water.

    Great video ! My tips for you. Get to know the body of water just like you know your lawn. Try shallow diving crank baits and a spinner bait. But most of all pay attention to what the fish are telling you. Are they biting better on a slow bottom bait or a fast or slow moving bait. But most of all remember that fish don't read magazines or watch videos that tell them where they should be or what they will bite on. Stay safe my friend.

You aren't the first one to say spinner bait and cranks, so I guess I need to give them a try. Thanks again!

    Fishing is actually a science, IMO. Now I don't claim to know the science but you have to take in ,wind, ambient temperature, water temperature, cover, seasons, how the fish act during the season change, where they are going. Are you fishing a river is it tidal. Are you fishing a lake, what kind of lake. When I went from fishing non tidal rivers to tidal it was a whole different ball game. Resivours even worse for me. One channel I can recommend if you do lake fishing is TacticalBassin. They do "push" some products but they have some pretty good info. Don't get down on yourself one question you have to ask yourself is how much longer have those guys been fishing compared to you.

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack 6 днів тому

      @@monzsterman thank you my friend! Most of the water I fish is definitely tidal. I struggle with understanding how tide effects fishing and what to do depending on what the tide is doing. I also have trouble understanding fish movement during the seasons. I think you are correct that science plays a major role. I'm better now than I was a year ago, but I'm not where I want to be. I love the challenge of trying to get good...but patience has never been my strength 😂. I appreciate you watching and commenting as always!!

    Thanks for sharing this particular subject matter of bass fishing something that doesn’t get talked about enough! I haven’t thrown my first line yet, but what I have been ingesting is tons of fishing videos, podcasts and instructional how to videos! I still don’t think I’ve even dented the body of knowledge of bass fishing I do want to invest in some online bass schools to learn from! I think the best education is out on the lake studying the lake! How did those great anglers who had no electronics become so good it can’t be just all luck or throw and hope😂! I think you nailed it about having the right mindset out there before beginning my journey of bass fishing I loved the outdoors especially learning about Bushcraft and utilizing natural tools to survive with and not just modern technology. There was a great show on history channel called Alone where ten contestants took ten items each and went out in a particular environment to survive the longest. I learned so much about each contestant and they had intensive background and knowledge to survive but when they got out there and face obstacles and couldn’t push through it, overcome it and adapt they gave in and left the show. So it made me realize that it took about 10% survival skills and 90% mental because all that head knowledge just goes right out the window when your head is not in control! It’s just the same as bass fishing everything comes into play you must know what these green friends want from topwater, mid range or bottom baits do they want it finesse or aggressively out in front of them. Are they hiding in cover, under docks under mats or brush piles are they in the or pre spawn mode, spawning mode or the post spawn. Am I looking for birds that see shad spawn, or what types of grass near shallow or deep. My mind exploded trying to look at so these factors and how they play a serious part in the bass behavior! Brother is something I can’t wait to discover, but learning with friends anglers a like is what I desire so much. I can’t wait to fish by your side in a kayak and learn about it together! Tight lines brother take care and God bless!❤

    Don't underestimate the power and the magic of "thinking like a little kid." By that I mean trying crazy things that spit in the face of conventional wisdom. I can't count the number of times when I've been fishing with a little kid and I'm targeting the structure and weeds and using baits correctly and then that crazy kid will throw a Texas rig on a bobber onto a barren beach or some other foolishness and he nails the Big One. I'm not suggesting you try that but when you're targeting the shore line maybe turn around and throw one or two way out deep or when you're moving from one "perfect" area to another take a minute or two to throw some bait into terrible areas where you don't think there could ever be any fish. I've learned over the years that overthinking things limits how well you can do on the water rather than guaranteeing results.

    Hey Yakkity Mack! Man I love to target flounder! I don’t get to do it very often though. If I had the knowledge my friend I would definitely share it with you but I fish because I love it not because I’m good at it😂 One thing I try to do is find structure that is not visible(everybody fishes visible stuff) so the fish that hang around it see every type of lure there is pretty often and therefore are hard to get to bite, though they will at times. Utilize your fish finder, not necessarily looking for fish but underwater differences (structure) that other anglers may not have seen. Offshore folks run to a visible oil rig structure that every body fishes and they might have been better off fishing an underwater ledge they ran over two miles back. If I can find a stump in a pond that’s not visible I’m gonna catch a fish!

    • @jasonm1884
      @jasonm1884 7 днів тому

      I agree with this completely. It seems to me that there are just as many bass hanging around ledges out at 5-10 feet of depth as there are in the weed lines. When my buddy takes me out in his bass boat he makes hitting all the points a priority and we always seem to do well around them.

    Thanks for the shout out! I think you had the right idea getting away from that brackish water. Congrats on that flounder btw. Knowing where you were I think a crankbait or spinnerbait could have been a factor with that wind breaking up the surface. On the West Bank about a mile north of the bridge there’s a creek with pads at the entrance. A few fish should have been up by those pads, creek mouth, or wood. What I do is try to find one area with several different cover/structure types and based on what the fish show me adjust my plan from there and try to narrow down where they are. With fall coming up I’m hoping the fish will be chasing more in the next tournament. Great video, I really like the on the water reflections.

If anyone questions your interpretations you are supposed to act offended and tell them how confident and experienced and knowledgeable you are. Now when he used it was sometimes on the bank , but most times he used it when he did not bring any of his graphs and was going to fish light! He would keep it out of the water most of the time and only use us when he want to see the water levels structures underneath and see if any fish were around and then put it back into his kayak! I think both these products are excellent for the beginner angler just getting started and not ready to go to college to know how to read all these in detail graphs they have now! You explained both point of views brilliantly I’ve seen arguments over the internet of other complains it’s not a kayak if it has a motor on it. The only true kayak is one you can paddle across the lake! In tournaments I’ve seen someone really working hard paddling, but the kayaks that peddled were moving faster and the kayaks that’s motorized across the lakes got to the spots first! My argument as well as you would at least have to give up an hour of fishing just to make it back to the dock on time and off the water before you got disqualified! Unless y you were wanting to get a good workout while you’re fishing go for it but if we wanted to do that we would walk to work and not drive either innovation is worth it lol! However, peddling nice and steady I was getting 3 MPH which is about speed 4 on my trolling motor and was very sustainable. Trolling motors are probably best for conserving energy but aren't great for speed. If you're looking for speed, something like an NK180. I think I'm gonna take the yak out this coming weekend with just my paddle for kicks and grins. I've never done that before so I want to see what it's like. I am having trouble grasping your arguments. If you take the second seat out of the pelican you have the same size vessel (internal space) as the kayak. You can set pelican up in the same exact configuration as the kayak. You have one seat located the same distance from the front of the boat as the kayak. place a crate with rod holders right behind the seat (same as the kayak) so you can reach back and grab a combo. You say yourself the pelican is more stable. The pelican is easier to get in and out of. You sit higher up out of the water in a pelican. The pelican is basically just as fast while at the same time pushing two passengers around. Please don't take my critique wrong, I enjoyed watching your review, and I believe you were trying to be fair, but in my opinion, this was not an apples-to-apples comparison. I took your point to be, you just seem to enjoy fishing out of the kayak more than the pelican and that's a fair assessment.

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack Місяць тому

      @CryptoGearHQ I love the way you framed your counter argument. Well done 👍 I actually made a video last weekend where I took both vessels out and demonstrated but I'm not sure if I will release it. The reason is, it's over 20 minutes long and I'm not sure people will be interested enough to watch. It addresses many of the points you make. For example, I can only move the seat back so far before I lose the ability to make tight turns or access some electronics. I did put the crate behind me and stored my rods as well as everything else I normally keep in my kayak and that created a little problem with accessing my rudder. I think the biggest issue for me is clutter makes it feel confined and less user friendly. Because everything is stored in the floor, including wires and accessories, it feels less spacious. The speed test I did in the solo testing is actually quite surprising to me. The kayak was only faster by .2 mph... I was shocked at that. I plan on taking out the Raider solo again this weekend and try to make a video just focusing on it and not the kayak. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and for articulating your thoughts so well! Much appreciated 👍
