indie games are the future of gaming for many of us. indie games continue to get better as aaa games continue to get worse. indie devs are rapidly surpassing the aaa devs. we already have games like hollow knight, dead cells, and cuphead that are better than most aaa games imo. and they often cost half as much as a aaa game at most. it still baffles me how a game like hollow knight released for $15. not only is it fun, beautiful, and polished, it's a massive game, the biggest metroidvania i've ever played by far. easily worth the price of a aaa game to me. and silksong is supposed to be at least 5 times the size of hollow knight, which is just insane to think about. no aaa dev would do that, it would be split into 3 or 4 full priced games. i saw some people say $30 would be too much for silksong, just because it's an indie game. as i said i already think hollow knight is worth $60, so the sequel that is 5 times bigger would be a day one purchase for me even if it was $60. i really hope they at least charge 30 or 40, 15 would be way to low for the amount of work they would have to put into a massive, beautiful game like that. anyhow, without indie devs the future of gaming would look much more bleak. i would probably just play old psp, ds, ps1, snes, etc. on emulators. i already do that and have had way more fun playing old psp and ds games than i do many modern aaa games. yeah, there are still some modern aaa games i've enjoyed, but they are becoming more and more rare.

I love this game and I already miss it. A friend and I co-op’d this in early February (I think). We 100% and platinum’ed it in a around a week. It was so much fun and I still can’t get it out of my head. Even with all the awesome games we’re playing now this keeps popping up in my head. And I’m pretty sure I learned about it from this video! Thanks Skill Up!
Hands down the best video game reviewer on UA-cam. Skillup truly knows how to write and present a review. Even with the hundreds of reviewers on the internet, knowing how to write is such a rare skill and this guy has writing skills in spades. Even when i disagree with his position on a certain game i still find the review entertaining. Keep doing great work.
Game Pass is the fucking tits for stuff like this. I've downloaded so much random stuff for shits and giggles, just because i can and found some really really cool shit...perfect example, fucking Subnautica, i know it got a lot of praise and everything when it came out but i still thought it was just Survival Mode Minecraft under the sea...although in all honesty i guess it is, but it's so much better than that
@@scottp4357 Subnautica has a handcrafted world unlike most survival games, which made a huge difference for me as I tend to look down on these games.
So a few days ago i watched the first 5 minutes of this review. We paused and instantly bought the game. Now after we finished the game, I came back here to finish the video and say thanks for this recommendation. Its one of the best gaming experiences i had in a while and tons of fun with a mate. Thanks
Love these indie reviews, always brings to light games that would so often get overlooked by a wider audience, Thanks as ever for shining a light, Thanks to you and Austin for all your efforts
I played Guacamelee with my son and we had a blast. I played the sequel with my son and daughter and had even more fun. Guacamelee needs to be a trilogy. It's so much fun.
Started this game last week and I'm very impressed with its style and is very addictive to play, even dying I don't feel cheated or frustrated. I'm glad they put this on game pass or this would of been missed by so many and I get this is why the devs did this to give it a lot of exposure
Been playing this game since launch. Easily my favorite game of the last year or so. This game is stupidly fun. The art is amazing. It makes grinding fun. It's challenging yet there's always a solution. It's just a damn fun game.
Dude skillup, i got this game this morning and got 5 hours in, decided to take a nap but remembered you did a review on this so i casually checked it out before sleeping. just watching your fight scenes from first 2 mins made me forego my nap and get back into the game lol. psyched!
I bought this game because of this review... i just finished it in 15 hours in one weekend (still got some achievements to do), and I can't wait to start a new game+.
Binged through this game on the weekend, holy shit what a blast. This is like the perfect homage to the OG Legend of Zelda game with their own spin on combat and gameplay. The game really pops of as soon as you unlock the second passive slot and only gets better from there. 10/10 review and game.
Started playing this on Saturday morning and was instantly hooked. Fun factor continued to increase as more elements of the game unlocked. I didn't stop playing until I finished the game Sunday evening. Loads of fun. Loved it! Looking forward to playing through again on New Game+.
Judging by the thumbnail on GamePass I would never even have considered downloading this, but it looks and sounds really fun, so ill definitely try this one out. Thanks! :)
Thank you Skillup for making this review. This is totally not the style of game I usually play, but because I watched your video and it was a day one GP release, I am now about halfway through and absolutely loving it!
Why do I always find my self listening to a 30 minute review of a game I would never play in a million years... Good job again skillup... I can listen to this guy talk about anything
the ren and stimpy-like animation drew me in and the gameplay made me stay, what an excellent game. There are a couple OP skills I think, but the difficulty keeps ramping up so maybe I should wait and see.
You succeeded, SU. I was certain I would skip this title before I watched your review, and before your review was done I had already downloaded it and I can't wait to play. Well done, sir.
Really well put together review. They way you pulled all those threads together at the end was excellent, definitely looking to jump into this given their pedigree.
A tad bit late, but wanted to thank you, SkillUp, for recommending this game. This would have flown under my radar if not for your review. I've been having a blast. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your reviews.
I devoured Nobody same as you Skill Up - and also loved every minute of it! Progression in this game should be taken and PowerPointed to every company that makes ARPG's on the market. I have over 6000 hours played in PoE and Diablo and I still felt greater progression in Nobody's 20 hours gametime. Last time I felt so much fun in "dinging" was in early WoW when your next talent to pick was Mortal Strike or Aimed Shot. I really hope, that this game will get recognition it deserves - this is how you make something fresh in non-fresh genre.
"I'm not sure if I've sold this to you..." You had me at Drinkbox. I just saw this in the store today, and then this review popped up for me. I'm super pumped to check it out, I've loved all of Drinkbox's games so far. They're like Supergiant Games, where they venture out into different genres with their games and consistently hit high marks of excellence in all arenas.
I think my favorite thing about this game is every time I thought I had one character that I was going to just stomp through the rest of the game, suddenly it throws me a dungeon where I am totally wrecked and have to change things up or I unlock a new form that makes me go "Ooh, that's neat" and I work to unlock more of it's abilities. My GOTY so far.
I bought this game because of your recommendation. I feel what you said about the first hours or so. Starting hour 2 I was IN. Played a few 2h sessions interestingly. And will continue soon. Not sure what it is but playing for 2h per session really works for me on this one. It's in, out, satisfied.
There is a op build Character:slug Attacks: 1.Slug normal attack(because its one of the best) 2.Ghost etheral(you litterily become invincibile) 3.Egg healing(healing) 4.poison tipped(it combos with detonate) Passives: 1.Slug secret 2.Speed cant go under 100(i forgot the name and it combos well withh etheral because it removes speed debuff btw you need to buy it from shop) 3.Zombie healing (free healing) 4. Detonate( it combos well with poison tipped)
Again mate another great video and recommendation. I don’t bother looking for new games anymore, I just tune in. I really enjoy what your channel has evolved into mate, congratulations!
Loooooooove both Guacamelee games and was disappointed when Drinkbox released that PS Vita exclusive game (though it looked cool). Glad to see them back with another banger!
I got this game on steam and was really looking forward to playing it with a friend of mine but I had to refund it because of two reasons: 1) Co-op felt really bad. Like local co-op while being online. Both players share everything while the host has priority when deciding what to do with stuff. Only the host has his progress saved. Both players can only see what the host sees. If you walk off screen, you simply die. Not a great co-op experience 2) Controls If it weren't for the controls, I would have probably kept playing solo but damn they are horrible. Which is to say, they are horrible if you want to play with mouse and keyboard . Well actually only keyboard because you can't bind anything to your mouse. They are so bad they make the game borderline unplayable imo. Things like the menu for quickly swapping between forms works great with an analog stick but is pretty much unusable without it. No effort went into making this game workd with M&K and I'm quite sad about that.
Yeah no mouse support, what year is this, unfortunately a dealbreaker for me also, like the style of the game but controlling with 2 hands on keyboard is too akward for me.
@@onesolopolo4194 how on earth is this toxic, I'm a pc guy and I exclusively play mouse & keyboard, it's a deal breaker for me too it's just what we're used to.
I already played Narita boy and Returnal cause of your recomendation, and both are excellent. Narita boy really was great but especially Returnal was my game of the year in 2021. Normally i dont have enough breath to get pretty far in roguelikes so i wasn't going to pick it up.But your videos are so convincing that I tried it out. Your arguments you had for this game were exact on point.I beat the final boss 2 times, not because I*m so good, but the fun and the gameplay are absolutely excellent so I just had enough breath this time for it. Now I'm happy that I subsrcibed to your channel. I was going to tell this because, yes I think you convinced me of this title as well. But before this I will play Outer Wilds, also kind of a game that i regularly would skip. Go on with this, you're doing great :)
Thank you for reviewing this game...I would have likely missed this amazing experience. I am only 5 or so hours in and I am having such a fun time! The different mechanics are clicking now and its just a joy to experiment and play. This would have gotten away from me without you review for sure! Just like Outer Wilds would have gone un-played if not for your review.
Aight, I'll get to it once I play the other 700 games on my backlog. I'll get to the backlog thing once I stop replaying old games over and over again.
Got 4mins into your review, thought...'yeah, fuck it, I'm in'... and have been on it ever since. Massively fun game; chill at times, with some decent difficult and strategy required. Nice one, SU 🤟
Be honest, at 2:21 did you design the edit with Forza Horizon in mind? That pause before the music kicked in seemed so reminiscent of the way every race ends which I do believe you pointed out in your review. Fantastic work as always, cheers.
Really glad you made this review. I too played the first couple of hours and wasn't really having fun and was considering stopping, but watching this has sold me on continuing to play this game. Cheers.
PS Plus added this for January. I forgot what it was, and jumped in cause i was board. I slowly started to remember this review i watched a while back. Im about 3 hours in now, and im blown away. Its so effortlessly satisfying and fun. My only gripe is that I REALLY wish the radial wheel would paise or at least slow combat. Feels like a big miss to me. But the way everything else is so tightly crafted feels like master craft game design. Im having such a great time.
My partner spotted this on the game pass new release list yesterday and convinced me to play it, using "online" co-op in the same room (thanks MS for letting us share a single subscription!). We're having a blast, access to two classes at the same time + a respawn mechanic makes the game a lot smoother and less punishing. Death no longer resets the dungeon unless both players die at the same time. I will definitely stick with it beyond the first few hours after watching this review!
I've absolutely loved my time with this game so far. I agree it was a bit grindy/slow in the beginning, but then I played for like another hour and now I'm hooked. Can't wait to make it through and then do NG+!

Path of Exile gameplay is pretty similiar in terms of the insane amount of build diversity, it's a Diablo-like. I'm surprised no one mentioned it.
Oh my god. So quick to your reviews. Love your work Skill Up!!!!!!!
It's great to hear you enjoy a game man, you've taken some major hits for us, playing crap for us so we don't have to. Awesome content as usual.
YES this game is totally awesome! Without gamepass I would have never played it, again thanks to gamepass!
Absolutely great game.
A lot deeper than what I was expecting going in.
Agreed. This is a real gem, that I would likely never have discovered without gamepass. Pure fun!
You and ACG are the best game review channels. Any time I see you strongly recommend a game, I try to make a point to check it out
My Destiny crew have picked this up on GamePass in the lull between now and Witch Queen launch and are having a blast.
when skillup puts ‘please don’t skip this’ in his thumbnail you KNOW the game is going to be absolute quality
So a few days ago i watched the first 5 minutes of this review. We paused and instantly bought the game. Now after we finished the game, I came back here to finish the video and say thanks for this recommendation. Its one of the best gaming experiences i had in a while and tons of fun with a mate. Thanks
Love these indie reviews, always brings to light games that would so often get overlooked by a wider audience,
Thanks as ever for shining a light,
Thanks to you and Austin for all your efforts
This is why reviewing indie titles is so important, downloaded on on a whim after being bored with Halo, and I’m hooked straight away
Available through PS Plus in January, I'll definitely be checking it out.
I played Guacamelee with my son and we had a blast. I played the sequel with my son and daughter and had even more fun. Guacamelee needs to be a trilogy. It's so much fun.
Guacamelee 1&2 are probably the MOST underrated indie/metroidvania games OF ALL TIME.
I really hope we get Guacamelee 3 some day.
It's just a damn fun game.
pleasantly surprised you reviewed this! first new game of the year that has really wowed me. so much fun
Dude skillup, i got this game this morning and got 5 hours in, decided to take a nap but remembered you did a review on this so i casually checked it out before sleeping. just watching your fight scenes from first 2 mins made me forego my nap and get back into the game lol. psyched!
I was totally addicted from start to finish. Thanks for the spotlight on this one.
Teach all youtubers to do ads like you. Respectful of people watching. Splash in beginning and watch the details at end if interested .it's perfect
Started playing this based on this video, man I’m bloody loving this game.
Really enjoying this game, taking turns with my gf as we play through it. Lack of couch co-op sucks, but it’s still great.
I agree with you about co-op. If this game had couch co-op my significant other and I would play the hell out of it.
No 1 request I see on the user review page, this games seems like a great mix between enter the gungeon and binding of Isaac
I love your reviews. They're wholesome for some reason. Keep going!
same as me. at first I think it's kinda slow but when you start to unlock more and more I just can't stop playing
I bought this game because of this review... i just finished it in 15 hours in one weekend (still got some achievements to do), and I can't wait to start a new game+.
I started this game the day it was released on game pass. It is a lot of fun!
Thank you Skillup, this is why I am subscribed to your channel...... nobody sounds bloody great!
Man, you consistenly deliver the best reviews on UA-cam. Looking forward to try this one out (I also loved Guacamelee)
Started playing this because of you and I love it thanks Shill up!
The title of this piece sounds like a phrase from the movie "Dont look up"... Keep us the awesome content SkillUp, you do amazing work!
I feel like calling it "Nobody" in short is fitting because pretty much nobody has heard of this game until now.
retromation played it
Binged through this game on the weekend, holy shit what a blast.
This is like the perfect homage to the OG Legend of Zelda game with their own spin on combat and gameplay.
The game really pops of as soon as you unlock the second passive slot and only gets better from there.
10/10 review and game.
So they made 20 Heroes with unique abilities and upgrades, something Overwatch 2 devs struggled with in a campaign, interesting.
Totally loved playing this game with my husband! Can't wait till the next one.
Why do I always find my self listening to a 30 minute review of a game I would never play in a million years...
Good job again skillup... I can listen to this guy talk about anything
Looking at this vs your review of R6:E has really opened to my eyes to how big the gap is growing in terms of quality between indie and AAA games
Pulp Fiction: "Dont be a square"
SkillUp: "Be a square"
the ren and stimpy-like animation drew me in and the gameplay made me stay, what an excellent game.
That's for your reviews as always. Gonna crush this over the weekend
"I'm not sure if I've sold this to you..."
You had me at Drinkbox. I just saw this in the store today, and then this review popped up for me. I'm super pumped to check it out, I've loved all of Drinkbox's games so far. They're like Supergiant Games, where they venture out into different genres with their games and consistently hit high marks of excellence in all arenas.
This video is enough motivation to get me thru my workout to lunch when I can watch
Bought this one yesterday, thanks Skill-up!! 👌
Thanks for the heads up on this one man. I had zero idea this was launched. So glad you give them some air time. What a great game!
I bought this game because of your recommendation. I feel what you said about the first hours or so. Starting hour 2 I was IN. Played a few 2h sessions interestingly. And will continue soon. Not sure what it is but playing for 2h per session really works for me on this one. It's in, out, satisfied.
There is a op build
Character:slug
Attacks:
1.Slug normal attack(because its one of the best)
2.Ghost etheral(you litterily become invincibile)
3.Egg healing(healing)
4.poison tipped(it combos with detonate)
Passives:
1.Slug secret
2.Speed cant go under 100(i forgot the name and it combos well withh etheral because it removes speed debuff btw you need to buy it from shop)
3.Zombie healing (free healing)
4. Detonate( it combos well with poison tipped)
Again mate another great video and recommendation. I don’t bother looking for new games anymore, I just tune in. I really enjoy what your channel has evolved into mate, congratulations!
Just beat this! Great game. Working on new game + and getting all S ranks for the characters
Loooooooove both Guacamelee games and was disappointed when Drinkbox released that PS Vita exclusive game (though it looked cool). Glad to see them back with another banger!
I got this game on steam and was really looking forward to playing it with a friend of mine but I had to refund it because of two reasons:
1) Co-op felt really bad. Like local co-op while being online.
Both players share everything while the host has priority when deciding what to do with stuff.
Only the host has his progress saved.
Both players can only see what the host sees. If you walk off screen, you simply die.
Not a great co-op experience
2) Controls
If it weren't for the controls, I would have probably kept playing solo but damn they are horrible.
Toxic PC players exposed.
@@onesolopolo4194 how on earth is this toxic, I'm a pc guy and I exclusively play mouse & keyboard, it's a deal breaker for me too it's just what we're used to.
Damn the lack of mouse control is a real shame I was looking forward to playing it
Why not play on controller then?
Alright SHILLUP. You sold me on outerwilds, so why not this title too. Ty uncle gates for gamepass. Ty for the well crafted review.
Another great review mate. Favorable reviews from you equals must plays for me.
I downloaded it today's morning, 5 hours in and can't wait to go back to it, it's sooo addicting and fun
i like the guacamelee devs style, u can immediately tell it's them, their humor, those same text boxes
I cannot stop playing this game. And every subsequent hour is more enjoyable than the last. Thankful for the recommendation!
My favourite reviewer and trusted when looking at purchasing a game
Always get excited to see a strong recommend shill up video thanks buddy come along way since watching your division videos lol
I immediately downloaded the game via Game pass when it released. Glad to hear you like it
Really glad you made this review.
Pumped to hear the Guac team nailed it again.
I've absolutely loved my time with this game so far. I agree it was a bit grindy/slow in the beginning, but then I played for like another hour and now I'm hooked. Can't wait to make it through and then do NG+!
It's been getting... mixed reviews on Steam, so I'm glad to see you give this a strong recommendation. Will give it a shot on Game Pass.
I would've never gave this a try if it wasn't for this review, this looks fantastic. Thank you!

"Nobody Saves the World" sounds like an alternative title for Outer Wilds.
Glad u are covering this, looks worth the time and money for sure
