Jirard 100% completed BotW. I would be not surprised if he 100% completed Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I've been playing for 17 hours and I think I've got to roughly 15% fully completing the game
As someone who grew up with the original Lego Star Wars games, I've been immensely enjoying The Skywalker Saga. It's been a huge nostalgia trip, and honestly even without the nostalgia the game is incredible. However, I have one major gripe with the game: I REALLY miss the large, linear levels the originals had. Don't get me wrong, the sprawling hub worlds are awesome, and the actual levels are still some quality stuff, but I can help but feel disappointed when a great level from the original like the droid factory from Ep. 2 or the Trade Federation battleship from Ep. 1 have been cut down to bite sized pieces. The devs really had to make some comprises to fit all nine movies in here, and it shows despite the mostly polished technical side.
I honestly love this game. Honestly in my opinion the Skywalker saga is played out but this game reminds me of why I love it. I can't believe I'm saying this but I honestly wouldn't mind more DLC levels and characters for this game. It's so good.
The game feels heavily inspired by Jedi Fallen Order with its semi - open world design with smaller levels. The levels in the old games still had many short levels. Podrace level about the same length. The Grievous level in the complete saga was just one arena. And the game wanted to cover events not covered in old games which is why Jedi temple level was replaced with senate showdown.
As someone who was skeptical of getting this game I was completely wrong it's a really great experience. What surprised me most was that the jokes/gags are legitimately funny 90% of the time.
After playing through Episode 1, I actually went back and rewatched the movie because I forgot just how much world building and political story was going on. Plus the pod racing, the space battle, and the DUEL OF FATES. And yeah, Anakin was still cringe as hell but the rest of it really surprised me after all these years. This game totally reinvigorated my love of the franchise, and the prequels in particular.
I was talking with some coworkers last week about the movies as one of our coworkers hasn’t seen them and isn’t sure if she wants to. We all agreed that while 4-6 is the greatest segment of Star Wars, if all she wanted was a sample of what the series has to offer then she should watch The Phantom Menace. It really is an excellent stand alone movie.

That first sequence in Phantom Menace where you rearrange the chairs to make them dance to the cantina music took me right back to when I first found that easter egg while playing through a a demo of that first lego star wars game for PS2 all those years ago. I've had the cantina music in my head ever since...
I was just playing that PS2 game like 2 weeks ago and accidentally stumbled into that chair easter egg! I hadn't played it for years, certainly had no memory of how anything works.
@@neighborofthedevil Yes, in The Complete Saga, you have the ability to go through the door at any time. In The Skywalker Saga, you need to do this to get a tutorial for force powers as well as making TC-14 come in and show you the way. It's more of a reference.
Honestly though, the sequel trilogy being included kinda pushed me away. Glad to hear the rest of the game is so good. I love the originals, and actually liked the prequels a lot (though recognize they aren't the masterpieces they are prequeling). But the sequels.... broke my heart.
5:05 It actually does skip over a few missions from the movies. Like the space battle over death star II is a cutscene instead of a mission like in the complete saga. When you consider that there are 9 movies of missions, side missions and open areas to explore though, its forgivable.
The lack of the Jedi space battle is the biggest disappointment for me. So many great ships you should be able to use during that. Probably why the space battle in Phantom Menace is playable but not that one.
And also the Battle Over Coruscant, and the duel between Mace Windu and Palpatine. Is there seriously not a Battle of Endor space mission? (I'm only through the prequels so far)
@@sound4117 If this game didn't have a ton of side missions and 24 planets to explore then it would be unforgivable. But I can forgive shorter missions when there's a lot of side content.
@GamerKat'71 I really don't think anyone genuinely thinks the DS2 space battle was "the most important battle" the only battle that mattered in that movie was Endor. Having yet another fight around a death star would be redundant given you already got to play the space battle over the first death star. Given the games focus is variety hour...yet another of a near identical fight with a few new characters wouldn't be that compelling.
I like how there's been a bit of a return to just making a good game in the past couple months with a lot of companies. No bullshit, just a fun, good experience. People are getting tired of being toyed with.

I gotta say, I was really pleasantly surprised with the humor. I was worried it wouldn't live up to nostalgia or it would be too childish, but it was actually really good. There were a lot of times I actually laughed at something in a cutscene, or at some dialogue a character shouts in battle.
I laughed a lot during the prequels and (spoiler alert) when Rey was listening to the Jedi talking to her when anakin simply said “I don’t like sand”. It surprised me so much I laughed for nearly a minute.
Only finished the first level but holy hell i love it. Reminds me of playing these games as a child. And the graphics are stunning, some of the lego bricks and characters have the perfect texture and lighting so they almost look like a photo of an actual lego piece
Some characters even have the lego text on the underside of their arms, and you can even see the seams in hair and other parts. They didn't need to do that.. But for some reason it just looks super good.
Its cool to hear your take as someone that doesn't seem to actually be into Lego. As a adult fan of Lego and someone that tries to collect all the cool Lego Star Wars ships and stuff, the game is an amazing experience to feel like your "playing Lego" like a kid again. It is also really cool to see the awesome and true to life recreations of different Star Wars sets. I wish I didn't jump unto the Lego train so late in the Star Wars life cycle, I would have a collection worth the value of my house if I got involved with collecting 10 years back.
Absolutely beautiful game the devs put so much time and care into it but remember the devs put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this project I heard the development of this game was really rough I'm very surprised it turned out this amazing. The crunch time and the new engine made development a real pain so I applaud all of their work and this amazing product and game we got in the end.
Been playing this with my 7yr old son who's just started getting into Star Wars. After over 200hrs of Elden ring I'm having such a good time with this one!
This really warms my heart, because growing up, the LEGO games were the only video game I was ever allowed to play. So I'll ALWAYS have a soft spot for the games.
Man I want full on multiplayer game modes! The shooting mechanics in this game are really awesome so just imagine how cool Deathmatch or a Battlefront 2 style Conquest game mode would be. They have all the elements, they just need to bring it together

Now that I'm seeing the video instead of just listening to the review to avoid spoilers of all the set pieces and locations I've to say that the editing is beyond excellent. It really does an incredible job showing the game off and it's so word for word with the script of the review itself. Man some big game media outlets could learn a thing or two from this channel in terms of video capture and editing. I've yet to see something eclipse it on UA-cam.
After debating getting this game for a few days, this review convinced me to get it. I rarely buy games at brand new prices, but this one looks absolutely worth it!
I still can’t believe how far TT games has come. Their lego games have evolved to where the characters speak, and there are large open worlds to explore. As well as the games looking more and more like legos. They’ve certainly improved their style to be very unique, and it shows looking back at the original Lego Star Wars from the early 2000s.
@@jamesb7205 they did that, only the first 2 seasons of the clone wars tho... it has this super awesome massive ground battle mode in it. Definitely reccomend you getting it
Buyers beware, at the time of writing this there are at least 2 game breaking bugs which soft lock you out of 2 or more episodes (1/4 of the game). Would definitely recommend waiting for a patch before buying this.
I grew up with the complete saga lego game, and I fully expected this game to just be that + the sequel trilogy and maybe new graphics. I was fine with that and was still willing to play it. But the fact that it has so many new features, both presentation wise and gameplay wise is what makes me so excited to try this game out. It just sounds perfect to me.

@@Malek-dg4gh Levels are paced in a way that prioritizes the new action game mechanics as opposed to pace breaking puzzles. It’s different but each level tries to offer some variety as opposed to every level following the same formula like the older games. If you’ve played several Lego games, this is refreshing and so much better.

I appreciate the fact that you drew attention to the crunch that was involved in delivering this product. I wish all reviews took a moment to do the same when it's relevant. Some might find it irrelevant to the final piece, but I factor it in when deciding to play a game or not.
This game is great in a lot of ways but for one, there's absolutely some phoned in parts, specifically main story missions. They all boil down to 5-minute hallways or forced lock-on fight scenes. You'll have way more fun just exploring each planet. Like for instance, the level on Mustafar is just the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan and player 2 is forced to float above them as R2-D2 for almost the entire level (player 2 gets shafted A LOT in this game), but when you go back there it's a completely different open hubworld for some reason and is way more fun. At some point Skill Up mentions something like "you'll eventually get to the part where Anakin introduces himself to the locals" (as in Anakin going to murder the sand people). That never happens. It is - no exaggeration - a 10 second cutscene (there's even a functional Tuskan raider camp in the game but the story never has you go there, just side missions). But there are a LOT more instances of that. Huge plot moments from the movies are just... not there. For another, I have been experiencing a ridiculous amount of glitches on PC. The port is fucking atrocious. Crashes, game breaking glitches, massive fps drops on some planets, all occurring every hour or so requiring quitting out and restarting the game. So that's yet another game that this channel gives glowing reviews, that they definitely played on PC, and there's barely a mention of bugs... I'm pretty sure this is the third time I've seen Skill Up fail to mention bugs in their review and it's becoming pretty damn concerning. And before anyone says anything, I've been seeing a lot of people seeing similar bugs on both PC and console, and my system far exceeds the recommended specs... he had to have seen them.
I'd already decided to buy this game. This review just reaffirmed that decision. Thank you, Ralph, for being one of the few reviewers out there who actually has the balls to bring up developer abuse in reviews.
I just can’t agree here. The excuse that it’s just a kids game, doesn’t make it immune to the same criticism that a lot of other games get. It’s simple really. Tt games cut corners. Many of the missions/ levels are just running from point A to paint B with the same rehashed combat sections, while missing out on the best and most memorable moments from the movies and the original game. Then the cool moments that are there, like the battle of geonosis, aren’t all that cool. I mean in the Star Wars clone wars game, there are like 500 enemies in the geonosis arena, with dozens of npcs backing you up, but here there is about 30 enemies scattered around the arena with a few npcs that literally just stand there. I watched them for 2 minutes stand in one place and do nothing. The exploration is really no better than any other game nowadays, with cookie cutter puzzles and nowhere near the amount of space that Tt games promised. The character roster is huge, but it’s still just basically 9 different classes that have no variation within them apart from ascetics. Also I can’t remember one time where I actually built something in the game, I mean seriously that’s pathetic in a Lego game. Overall it’s just incredibly rushed and each film feels like a walking simulator while cutting out on the cool and important moments that we’re present in the original game, and don’t even get me started about the difficulty, dude my friends little brother, who is 6, died once to count doofus, and he has only ever played the Harry Potter Lego games. It’s just boring having no variation between bosses or encounter, with them all being incredibly repetitive and introducing no new concepts between the saber fights. The nostalgia is good but that hold up the whole game with all of the dumb shit that is in it.
The levels in the prequels are kinda short but the world's are gorgeous, a metric ton of characters, actually exciting bosses (not all of em but even the bad ones are a big step up for lego games), puzzles and collectibles everywhere that's all optional up to you, tons of fan service and genuinely funny moments you'd have to be pretty soulless to not crack a smile at the charm of this game
You hit the nail on the head with how inviting the puzzles are because they are not too difficult. Ive been playing through this with my girlfriend who pretty much only played the sims up to this point and I love the fact that she can get used to using the controller and actually acomplishes stuff. Basically what I want to say is that this is also a superb entry point for complete non-gamers to get introduced into gaming, controlling etc. while still being super chill fun for people with thousands of hours of experience. And you just dont see that often enough
I have to say I disagree with saying that it covers everything major, there are a few major battles or events that should have been main missions in my opinion but instead they were made cutscenes. For example the opening space battle for Episode 3, or blowing up the second Death Star in Episode 6.
The Battle Over Coruscant, Arresting Palpatine, and the Battle Over Endor are really significant losses for me, I don't understand why any of them were cut.
Literally the thing he uses as an example, Anakin going after the Tuskan raiders, never actually happens in a mission. It's a 5 to 10 second cutscene. I've started to notice that this guy may not be such a reliable reviewer.
oh dear lord. I would happily pay 200 US dollars for what... 21-22 damn movies lego style?!?! With this amount of content and quality?!!??!! Yes, and I will gladly wait patiently for it and hope they triple the size of the team to make it.
As much as I would love it, I doubt it would ever happen. For starters, there's no way we get something like that as a single game. It would be broken up and sold as three games, one for each Phase. The devs were pushed to their limit making 9 movies for this game, no way in hell do they do 21 movies in another. Even Phase 3 most likely wouldn't be a single game. I also don't see them doing more than 5 levels per film, so people would still have the same issue as they do with this game where you have big hub worlds and smaller levels dedicated to set-pieces.
Oh good god that would be amazing. Maybe they'd have to split them up into phases though instead of doing an entire 23 movie saga. Just doing 9 star wars films nearly killed TT.
Surprisingly, this review was more of a loving look back at Star Wars and it's legacy as a whole than it was a full-on review of the game itself. Not that it's a bad thing; I am very pleased by Shill Up's surprise defense of the prequels, and it's pretty easy to tell the quality of the game by just well, looking at it. Even if crunch sadly played a large factor in the game's scope and overall quality, it's still worth celebrating how much effort Traveller's Tales have put into it regardless.

I read about the masses of crunch that was required to get this game out of the door. I commend their efforts, but we could've held out a little longer. The team should be rightfully proud of what they've created here however, it's a really wonderful adventure that's taken my attention far more than Elden Ring has (a great game, but a very different kind of audiance). I’m with you on this. The game has SO MICH to do, and it feels fun without getting boring. I still think there were a few parts that got a lil shortchanged (final Death Star 2 run in ROTJ) but just about everything is else top notch. I hope a lot of people don’t skip out on this game, because it really is one of the best this year.
I do feel, especially as kids get introduced to the whole saga without all the “discourse” that came with the prequels and sequels, that “magic” of Star Wars will continue. Hopefully this game is a step down that path.
I don't think so. The 'magic' of Star Wars will never return to what it used to be. Sure, us fans of the OT might give our kids it to watch. And they might enjoy it. But most kids will be introduced to Star Wars through the sequel trilogy, and those movies just are ass. Even as an independent trilogy. I went to watch TLJ with a much younger cousin who had only watched TFA and I never saw someone so young, hate a movie so much.
I grew up with the prequels and had fun with them as a kid. The sequels are going to have the same effect. Rise of Skywalker is messy but TFA and TLJ were/are fine enough for casual watchers (i.e. not people who debate a silly movie on the internet). Time will prove one way or another.
@@GamingOptimist TLJ was the worst of the lot. I can understand TFA having some following, but the latter two were pretty abysmal. And, I can't even blame Abrams too much for Rise of Skywalker because he was just in the mess that Ryan put him in. And, time doesn't have to tell. Ticket sales and merch have already shown that there wasn't much interest. But if you're going to jump on the 'silly movies' argument, I can tell you're REALLY confident in your taste in film.
the problem I have with this game is it just feels like i'm going from check point to check point. And instead of meme-able moments the game is full of old tired memes and they aren't subtle at all.

Been loving this game right from the start, but what hit me the most in regards too the scale of this game was when I reached the Gungan City....... A location that I never thought would be seen outside a cut scene is now a fully explorable hub, and the whole game is filled with locations like this. Lego Star Wars has always been a very solid franchise, this game is an incredible evolution of that solid base.
Yes! I love the lackluster open world that everyone’s drooling about! The backwards progression with AI with them being statues instead of actually doing things. I love the mediocre ass levels

Crunch issues notwithstanding, can I give kudos to the developers for making such a comprehensive game and avoiding the temptation to not milk the franchise by making the prequels / sequels extra cash making DLC. They seem to have fully delivered a huge, immersive, well designed, beautiful looking game and given the consumer the full package rather than teasing us with wallet mugging…that’s just SO rare these days.

I've been on the borderline on whether or not I was going to play this game, and this review has definitely pushed me over the edge. I'm definitely going to be giving this a shot, now I just need to figure out what I want to play it on.
Starting to get very opposite opinions to skill up recently lol. I'm in love with Weird West right now but with the Skywalker Saga, sadly, I do not see why its getting that much praise as it pains me to say. Just massive bloated open worlds with not much to do apart from collecting bricks, going from point A to B every mission, stories feel really rushed and the story missions themselves are way too short; I miss the linear nature that I loved from the priors.

Great game. I do feel crunch issues are an internal matter and should absolutely be sorted, but I don't feel guilty for playing games that have had it (probably all of them). I'd feel guilty for anything I do if I thought like that, food, clothing, fossil fuels etc
Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin not being in the game is the only problem I have with it. Seems strange that characters like Yaddle and Yarael Poof made it but they didn’t.
The new camera perspective is HUGE. I never liked the Lego games, and I haven’t even seen Star Wars, but I love this game. It reminds me of Ratchet & Clank. I really hope they adapt this style moving forward.
(to answer your question) As a 16-year game dev, I can say that when a product we put so much time, effort, and passion into is given such an amazing amount of love when it's released (like this game), it almost always makes the crunch time worth it. I can't speak to the dev team at TT Games, but in my experience it has been worth it. This game is so good, btw.
I agree. While it’s horrible they had to endure the horrors of crunch time just to finish this game… the fact they still made a game that is fun to play AND feels like it was made by people who love both LEGO and Star Wars means that we’d be insulting the devs if we *don’t* buy this game!
You should really watch the prequels, I really think they're great! They definitely have a different tone, so in some sense your perception of them will depend on what kind of person you are when it comes to star wars. I love that they take time to set everything up and have a blast finish at 3, but you might not like that, and that's fine. But if you have time, highly recommend the Clone Wars series (the clone wars movie might not give you the correct first impression 😅). They are a big reason why more and more people accept the prequels, because they expand that era, so it give everyone something to like in that part of star wars. But it is 7 seasons, so that's up to you. Personally I wouldn't rewatch the prequels without the clone wars, but you can just watch the three movies and that's fine. Then the sequels, they're OK at the end of the day, couldve been better, but could've been much worse too 😅
I have some issues with it compared to the old Complete Saga game. A lot of the Jedi battle levels have nothing for the second player to do and some of the secondary characters are laughable. Like the Yoda vs Palapatine level has just some random Republic guard guy. Also the levels are extremely short compared to the old game. The old game had 5 levels that were about twice the length of these ones. I finished 1-4 and am halfway through 5. I also think they kind of over complicated the game without much benefit. What is with all the upgrades when the game is so easy? Also it was pretty stupid when I realized it was impossible for Han Solo to disguise himself as a Stormtrooper when that is one of the most famous scenes in the film yet Leia can? I also think the game is too silly like Mace doesn’t even cut off Jango’s head when he did in the original game. They can have some jokes but I just didn’t find any of it very funny and wish it was played a bit more straight.
Yeah but sadly UA-cams cut feature is still rubbish tool and can break the video in quite few ways. And youtube being youtube still hasn't been bothered to sort that out spite it being a issue since it was a thing around 2015, instead they worked on making new features and such for the platform instead of fixing this known issues. This is why 75% of the time youtubers just reupload the whole video again mainly when dealing with copyright since sure youtube lets you just hit the cut out copyright part but as said if you let it cut this part out of my video it normally ends up with some sort of issue the biggest is majority of the video will have broken audio or just no audio for while. So yeah its just easier and more better to just reupload with your own cut edit spite it can hurt the channel doing so. Or the other option people seem to take aka what the other 25% would do in this kind of scenario is just leave it how it was. What i will admit to me depending on what was said or the context given, can sometimes be the bad move for the youtuber to leave it alone. But this video was record 2 years ago what is also basically means about 1 year and 7 months before it was even known of what he did. This video isn't that bad and i say it gets that pass of its ok if that part stayed in forever, it still provided context to the review of how much there is to do in the game and doesn't praise for people to really go to their channel, hence why i believe it be nice for it to be taken out but overall this has a pass for it to stay how it is.
I think it’s a strong testament to the quality of this game that Sequel haters and Sequel apologists both vastly enjoyed it, it was nice to play a game where they poked fun of the ridiculous moments without it devolving into “______ movie is so dumb haha”
3:14 I SAW THOSE AIR COMBOS!!! SICK DUDE. I have to agree Lego media franchise does really bring out the great parts, even the Lego Batman games/films to me are more enjoyable. Feel that the space combat in this game is actually more fun and engaging than Battlefront 2 and that's an achievement in itself. This game is seriously a special gem, and I would LOVE to see the actual ground devs get the support they deserve.
10:57 I did the Steam remote play together thing with two different buddies of mine. One of them went to buy the game for themselves to keep playing, and the other one had an absolute blast as we played for hours. It threw me back down memory lane as a kid when I played with my siblings back when Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy came out on the Xbox 360. Especially in the time when more serious games nowadays are soulless, half-baked, and sucked lifeless by corporate greed and microtransactions-playing this game felt like giving my childhood a warm hug.
So far the game has been alot of fun! And other then missing the character maker and the battle of genosis and corosaunt which is a real bummer I'm having a good time! I will say it's just weird the dlc for bad batch and solo are missing omega and l337
one thing i always love doing on youtube is watching peoples reaction to the huge reveal at the end of empire strikes back. especially when its kids because they get more easily enveloped into a movie at that age

I absolutely love this game and am astonished at the scale of a lot of the worlds but even after 2 years of delays, it feels unfinished and heres why: 1. SO many bugs, characters getting soft locked, every time i do a space mission theres a bunch of visual glitches as if im inside a star destroyer (has happened literally every time i get pulled out of hyperspace), many game crashes, other people (not me personally) have even had game breaking bugs making them restart 2. Missing fan favorite characters, even ones from the movies in favor of characters i haven’t even heard of and im a HUGE star wars fan so that was pretty surprising 3. Missing many battles, and only one large scale battle the whole game (which is the gungan battle like the least fun one, although obviously it was still very fun). How can u miss battles like the space battle over coruscant!! Or even missions like the death star trench run are ridiculously short. There should have been way more or longer on rail space battle missions 4. Short missions. Yes i know the game is huge and there is a lot of collecting, but most of the puzzles are so boringly simple even for the games target audience that im surprised that 200 or more of those kyber bricks werent moved to missions 5. Missing capital ships. This ones a bit selfish but i just want to own a venator lmao. 6. Difficulty slider. This one is a minor critique and understandable why its not there. The game is for kids. But the fact that the game is way to easy before upgrades shows that with upgrades its a joke. Why not add a difficulty slider so that the game doesnt change for kids, but the upgrades become meaningful for anyone who wants them to. Or even just for free play to make free play more interesting. Overall the game is amazing and the hard work of the developers clearly shines through, but it would have been nice to get some of these features, and/or had this developer hard work and care gone to places that would have been more impactful. I will still be playing the game for a long time however, and encourage anyone who hasnt bought it to do so.
Pretty much agree with everything here, especially about the bugs. I have yet to play a session of this game without a bug that brings everything to a screeching halt. It also seems to be really poorly optimized, with some planets going from over 100fps down to 20 or less. Bugs are a big deal when they are this frequent and its not cool that they just ignored how many this game has.
What a great intro! the music joke cracked me the fk up and mad respect for starting the review by mentioning the crunch, the more media folks talk about the mistreatment of games company staff the more likely we'll eventually reach a point where they are treating like human beings. I'll take games with less features or that are shorter in length if it means the developers get to go home in the evenings and weekends to spend time with their families, or you know simply get to go home and enjoy some games on their own if they are maidenless.
Fun fact! Every structure, ship, building, etc is all build accurate to Lego. Like the X-Wing you fly around is sitting on my shelf right now. It's amazing what these games can do. Can't wait to finally play.
I really don't understand the love this game is getting. Compared to "The Force Awakens" or even "The Complete Saga", this is a huge downgrade in every possible way, except graphics. Short levels, lack of meaningful co-op (or just co-op in general), blink-and-you-miss-it storytelling pacing, pointless open world environments, pointless collect-a-thons, an upgrade tree that makes an easy game even easier, 300 characters that are mostly just palette swaps of each other, boring side quests, and activities, and sequences that should be playable, but only happen in cutscenes. Like, I don't get it.

As someone who grew up with the original Lego Star Wars games, I've been immensely enjoying The Skywalker Saga. It's been a huge nostalgia trip, and honestly even without the nostalgia the game is incredible.
However, I have one major gripe with the game: I REALLY miss the large, linear levels the originals had. Don't get me wrong, the sprawling hub worlds are awesome, and the actual levels are still some quality stuff, but I can help but feel disappointed when a great level from the original like the droid factory from Ep. 2 or the Trade Federation battleship from Ep. 1 have been cut down to bite sized pieces.
The devs really had to make some comprises to fit all nine movies in here, and it shows despite the mostly polished technical side.
It'd be cool if they did some DLC's with some "Legacy Maps" style experiences.
I honestly love this game. Honestly in my opinion the Skywalker saga is played out but this game reminds me of why I love it. I can't believe I'm saying this but I honestly wouldn't mind more DLC levels and characters for this game. It's so good.
The game feels heavily inspired by Jedi Fallen Order with its semi - open world design with smaller levels.
The levels in the old games still had many short levels. Podrace level about the same length. The Grievous level in the complete saga was just one arena. And the game wanted to cover events not covered in old games which is why Jedi temple level was replaced with senate showdown.

After playing through Episode 1, I actually went back and rewatched the movie because I forgot just how much world building and political story was going on. Plus the pod racing, the space battle, and the DUEL OF FATES. And yeah, Anakin was still cringe as hell but the rest of it really surprised me after all these years. This game totally reinvigorated my love of the franchise, and the prequels in particular.

I was talking with some coworkers last week about the movies as one of our coworkers hasn’t seen them and isn’t sure if she wants to. We all agreed that while 4-6 is the greatest segment of Star Wars, if all she wanted was a sample of what the series has to offer then she should watch The Phantom Menace. That first sequence in Phantom Menace where you rearrange the chairs to make them dance to the cantina music took me right back to when I first found that easter egg while playing through a a demo of that first lego star wars game for PS2 all those years ago. @@neighborofthedevil Yes, in The Complete Saga, you have the ability to go through the door at any time. In The Skywalker Saga, you need to do this to get a tutorial for force powers as well as making TC-14 come in and show you the way. It's more of a reference.

Honestly though, the sequel trilogy being included kinda pushed me away. Glad to hear the rest of the game is so good. I love the originals, and actually liked the prequels a lot (though recognize they aren't the masterpieces they are prequeling). But the sequels.... broke my heart.

5:05 It actually does skip over a few missions from the movies. Like the space battle over death star II is a cutscene instead of a mission like in the complete saga. When you consider that there are 9 movies of missions, side missions and open areas to explore though, its forgivable.
The lack of the Jedi space battle is the biggest disappointment for me. So many great ships you should be able to use during that. Probably why the space battle in Phantom Menace is playable but not that one.
It also basically shortens most levels into hallways. I would say it's pretty unforgivable.
And also the Battle Over Coruscant, and the duel between Mace Windu and Palpatine.
Is there seriously not a Battle of Endor space mission? (I'm only through the prequels so far)

@GamerKat'71 I really don't think anyone genuinely thinks the DS2 space battle was "the most important battle" the only battle that mattered in that movie was Endor. Having yet another fight around a death star would be redundant given you already got to play the space battle over the first death star. Given the games focus is variety hour...yet another of a near identical fight with a few new characters wouldn't be that compelling.

I gotta say, I was really pleasantly surprised with the humor. I was worried it wouldn't live up to nostalgia or it would be too childish, but it was actually really good. There were a lot of times I actually laughed at something in a cutscene, or at some dialogue a character shouts in battle.
I laughed a lot during the prequels and (spoiler alert) when Rey was listening to the Jedi talking to her when anakin simply said “I don’t like sand”. It surprised me so much I laughed for nearly a minute.
Only finished the first level but holy hell i love it. Reminds me of playing these games as a child. And the graphics are stunning, some of the lego bricks and characters have the perfect texture and lighting so they almost look like a photo of an actual lego piece
Some characters even have the lego text on the underside of their arms, and you can even see the seams in hair and other parts. They didn't need to do that.. But for some reason it just looks super good.
Its cool to hear your take as someone that doesn't seem to actually be into Lego. As a adult fan of Lego and someone that tries to collect all the cool Lego Star Wars ships and stuff, the game is an amazing experience to feel like your "playing Lego" like a kid again. It is also really cool to see the awesome and true to life recreations of different Star Wars sets. I wish I didn't jump unto the Lego train so late in the Star Wars life cycle, I would have a collection worth the value of my house if I got involved with collecting 10 years back.
Absolutely beautiful game the devs put so much time and care into it but remember the devs put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this project I heard the development of this game was really rough I'm very surprised it turned out this amazing. The crunch time and the new engine made development a real pain so I applaud all of their work and this amazing product and game we got in the end.

Man I want full on multiplayer game modes! The shooting mechanics in this game are really awesome so just imagine how cool Deathmatch or a Battlefront 2 style Conquest game mode would be.

Now that I'm seeing the video instead of just listening to the review to avoid spoilers of all the set pieces and locations I've to say that the editing is beyond excellent. It really does an incredible job showing the game off and it's so word for word with the script of the review itself. Man some big game media outlets could learn a thing or two from this channel in terms of video capture and editing. I've yet to see something eclipse it on UA-cam.
After debating getting this game for a few days, this review convinced me to get it. I rarely buy games at brand new prices, but this one looks absolutely worth it!

I still can’t believe how far TT games has come. Their lego games have evolved to where the characters speak, and there are large open worlds to explore. As well as the games looking more and more like legos. They’ve certainly improved their style to be very unique, and it shows looking back at the original Lego Star Wars from the early 2000s.
I would love to see them do a "Lego Star Wars The Clone Wars Series" and follow the animated shoe. That would be fucking awesome

Buyers beware, at the time of writing this there are at least 2 game breaking bugs which soft lock you out of 2 or more episodes (1/4 of the game).
Would definitely recommend waiting for a patch before buying this.

I grew up with the complete saga lego game, and I fully expected this game to just be that + the sequel trilogy and maybe new graphics. I was fine with that and was still willing to play it.
But the fact that it has so many new features, both presentation wise and gameplay wise is what makes me so excited to try this game out. It just sounds perfect to me.

This game is great in a lot of ways but for one, there's absolutely some phoned in parts, specifically main story missions. They all boil down to 5-minute hallways or forced lock-on fight scenes. You'll have way more fun just exploring each planet. Like for instance, the level on Mustafar is just the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan and player 2 is forced to float above them as R2-D2 for almost the entire level (player 2 gets shafted A LOT in this game), but when you go back there it's a completely different open hubworld for some reason and is way more fun. At some point Skill Up mentions something like "you'll eventually get to the part where Anakin introduces himself to the locals" (as in Anakin going to murder the sand people). That never happens. It is - no exaggeration - a 10 second cutscene (there's even a functional Tuskan raider camp in the game but the story never has you go there, just side missions). But there are a LOT more instances of that. Huge plot moments from the movies are just... not there. For another, I have been experiencing a ridiculous amount of glitches on PC. The port is fucking atrocious. Crashes, game breaking glitches, massive fps drops on some planets, all occurring every hour or so requiring quitting out and restarting the game. So that's yet another game that this channel gives glowing reviews, that they definitely played on PC, and there's barely a mention of bugs... I'm pretty sure this is the third time I've seen Skill Up fail to mention bugs in their review and it's becoming pretty damn concerning. And before anyone says anything, I've been seeing a lot of people seeing similar bugs on both PC and console, and my system far exceeds the recommended specs... he had to have seen them.
I'd already decided to buy this game. This review just reaffirmed that decision.

I just can’t agree here. The excuse that it’s just a kids game, doesn’t make it immune to the same criticism that a lot of other games get. It’s simple really. Tt games cut corners. Many of the missions/ levels are just running from point A to paint B with the same rehashed combat sections, while missing out on the best and most memorable moments from the movies and the original game. Then the cool moments that are there, like the battle of geonosis, aren’t all that cool. I mean in the Star Wars clone wars game, there are like 500 enemies in the geonosis arena, with dozens of npcs backing you up, but here there is about 30 enemies scattered around the arena with a few npcs that literally just stand there. I watched them for 2 minutes stand in one place and do nothing. The exploration is really no better than any other game nowadays, with cookie cutter puzzles and nowhere near the amount of space that Tt games promised. The character roster is huge, but it’s still just basically 9 different classes that have no variation within them apart from ascetics. Also I can’t remember one time where I actually built something in the game, I mean seriously that’s pathetic in a Lego game. Overall it’s just incredibly rushed and each film feels like a walking simulator while cutting out on the cool and important moments that we’re present in the original game, and don’t even get me started about the difficulty, dude my friends little brother, who is 6, died once to count doofus, and he has only ever played the Harry Potter Lego games. It’s just boring having no variation between bosses or encounter, with them all being incredibly repetitive and introducing no new concepts between the saber fights. The nostalgia is good but that hold up the whole game with all of the dumb shit that is in it.
Ok, that scene where Anakin pulls out a coloring book and crayons after Mace Window tells him to take a seat fucking kills me. 😆

The levels in the prequels are kinda short but the world's are gorgeous, a metric ton of characters, actually exciting bosses (not all of em but even the bad ones are a big step up for lego games), puzzles and collectibles everywhere that's all optional up to you, tons of fan service and genuinely funny moments you'd have to be pretty soulless to not crack a smile at the charm of this game

You hit the nail on the head with how inviting the puzzles are because they are not too difficult. Ive been playing through this with my girlfriend who pretty much only played the sims up to this point and I love the fact that she can get used to using the controller and actually acomplishes stuff. Basically what I want to say is that this is also a superb entry point for complete non-gamers to get introduced into gaming, controlling etc. while still being super chill fun for people with thousands of hours of experience. And you just dont see that often enough
You forgot random dialogue between characters that appear on screen which is depended on what combination of those you have.
I have to say I disagree with saying that it covers everything major, there are a few major battles or events that should have been main missions in my opinion but instead they were made cutscenes. For example the opening space battle for Episode 3, or blowing up the second Death Star in Episode 6.
The Battle Over Coruscant, Arresting Palpatine, and the Battle Over Endor are really significant losses for me, I don't understand why any of them were cut.
Literally the thing he uses as an example, Anakin going after the Tuskan raiders, never actually happens in a mission. It's a 5 to 10 second cutscene. I've started to notice that this guy may not be such a reliable reviewer.

As much as I would love it, I doubt it would ever happen. For starters, there's no way we get something like that as a single game. It would be broken up and sold as three games, one for each Phase. The devs were pushed to their limit making 9 movies for this game, no way in hell do they do 21 movies in another. Even Phase 3 most likely wouldn't be a single game. I also don't see them doing more than 5 levels per film, so people would still have the same issue as they do with this game where you have big hub worlds and smaller levels dedicated to set-pieces.

Surprisingly, this review was more of a loving look back at Star Wars and it's legacy as a whole than it was a full-on review of the game itself. Not that it's a bad thing; I am very pleased by Shill Up's surprise defense of the prequels, and it's pretty easy to tell the quality of the game by just well, looking at it. Even if crunch sadly played a large factor in the game's scope and overall quality, it's still worth celebrating how much effort Traveller's Tales have put into it regardless.

I read about the masses of crunch that was required to get this game out of the door. I commend their efforts, but we could've held out a little longer. The team should be rightfully proud of what they've created here however, it's a really wonderful adventure that's taken my attention far more than Elden Ring has (a great game, but a very different kind of audiance). I’m with you on this. The game has SO MICH to do, and it feels fun without getting boring. I still think there were a few parts that got a lil shortchanged (final Death Star 2 run in ROTJ) but just about everything is else top notch. I hope a lot of people don’t skip out on this game, because it really is one of the best this year.

I do feel, especially as kids get introduced to the whole saga without all the “discourse” that came with the prequels and sequels, that “magic” of Star Wars will continue. Hopefully this game is a step down that path.

I don't think so. The 'magic' of Star Wars will never return to what it used to be.
Sure, us fans of the OT might give our kids it to watch. And they might enjoy it. But most kids will be introduced to Star Wars through the sequel trilogy, and those movies just are ass. Even as an independent trilogy. I went to watch TLJ with a much younger cousin who had only watched TFA and I never saw someone so young, hate a movie so much.
I grew up with the prequels and had fun with them as a kid. The sequels are going to have the same effect. Rise of Skywalker is messy but TFA and TLJ were/are fine enough for casual watchers (i.e. not people who debate a silly movie on the internet). Time will prove one way or another.
@@GamingOptimist TLJ was the worst of the lot. I can understand TFA having some following, but the latter two were pretty abysmal. And, I can't even blame Abrams too much for Rise of Skywalker because he was just in the mess that Ryan put him in.
And, time doesn't have to tell. Ticket sales and merch have already shown that there wasn't much interest. But if you're going to jump on the 'silly movies' argument, I can tell you're REALLY confident in your taste in film.

Been loving this game right from the start, but what hit me the most in regards too the scale of this game was when I reached the Gungan City....... A location that I never thought would be seen outside a cut scene is now a fully explorable hub, and the whole game is filled with locations like this.
Lego Star Wars has always been a very solid franchise, this game is an incredible evolution of that solid base.

They seem to have fully delivered a huge, immersive, well designed, beautiful looking game and given the consumer the full package rather than teasing us with wallet mugging…that’s just SO rare these days.

I've been on the borderline on whether or not I was going to play this game, and this review has definitely pushed me over the edge. I'm definitely going to be giving this a shot, now I just need to figure out what I want to play it on.

Starting to get very opposite opinions to skill up recently lol. I'm in love with Weird West right now but with the Skywalker Saga, sadly, I do not see why its getting that much praise as it pains me to say. Just massive bloated open worlds with not much to do apart from collecting bricks, going from point A to B every mission, stories feel really rushed and the story missions themselves are way too short; I miss the linear nature that I loved from the priors.

Great game. I do feel crunch issues are an internal matter and should absolutely be sorted, but I don't feel guilty for playing games that have had it (probably all of them). I'd feel guilty for anything I do if I thought like that, food, clothing, fossil fuels etc

Agen Kolar and Saesee Tiin not being in the game is the only problem I have with it. Seems strange that characters like Yaddle and Yarael Poof made it but they didn’t.
The new camera perspective is HUGE. I never liked the Lego games, and I haven’t even seen Star Wars, but I love this game. It reminds me of Ratchet & Clank. I really hope they adapt this style moving forward.

(to answer your question) As a 16-year game dev, I can say that when a product we put so much time, effort, and passion into is given such an amazing amount of love when it's released (like this game), it almost always makes the crunch time worth it. I can't speak to the dev team at TT Games, but in my experience it has been worth it.

I've only seen the original trilogy (and one movie from the sequel trilogy). I think this might be a nice way for me to experience the other movies.
You should really watch the prequels, I really think they're great! They definitely have a different tone, so in some sense your perception of them will depend on what kind of person you are when it comes to star wars. I love that they take time to set everything up and have a blast finish at 3, but you might not like that, and that's fine.
But if you have time, highly recommend the Clone Wars series (the clone wars movie might not give you the correct first impression 😅). They are a big reason why more and more people accept the prequels, because they expand that era, so it give everyone something to like in that part of star wars. But it is 7 seasons, so that's up to you. Personally I wouldn't rewatch the prequels without the clone wars, but you can just watch the three movies and that's fine.
Then the sequels, they're OK at the end of the day, couldve been better, but could've been much worse too 😅
Don't watch the prequels, just watch the original trilogy, those are the good movies

I have some issues with it compared to the old Complete Saga game. A lot of the Jedi battle levels have nothing for the second player to do and some of the secondary characters are laughable. Like the Yoda vs Palapatine level has just some random Republic guard guy. Also the levels are extremely short compared to the old game. The old game had 5 levels that were about twice the length of these ones. I finished 1-4 and am halfway through 5. I also think they kind of over complicated the game without much benefit. What is with all the upgrades when the game is so easy? Also it was pretty stupid when I realized it was impossible for Han Solo to disguise himself as a Stormtrooper when that is one of the most famous scenes in the film yet Leia can? I also think the game is too silly like Mace doesn’t even cut off Jango’s head when he did in the original game. They can have some jokes but I just didn’t find any of it very funny and wish it was played a bit more straight.
This the first game I wasn't gonna buy that he convinced me to do so. Great review 👏

Yeah but sadly UA-cams cut feature is still rubbish tool and can break the video in quite few ways. And youtube being youtube still hasn't been bothered to sort that out spite it being a issue since it was a thing around 2015, instead they worked on making new features and such for the platform instead of fixing this known issues. This is why 75% of the time youtubers just reupload the whole video again mainly when dealing with copyright since sure youtube lets you just hit the cut out copyright part but as said if you let it cut this part out of my video it normally ends up with some sort of issue the biggest is majority of the video will have broken audio or just no audio for while. So yeah its just easier and more better to just reupload with your own cut edit spite it can hurt the channel doing so.
Or the other option people seem to take aka what the other 25% would do in this kind of scenario is just leave it how it was. What i will admit to me depending on what was said or the context given, can sometimes be the bad move for the youtuber to leave it alone. But this video was record 2 years ago what is also basically means about 1 year and 7 months before it was even known of what he did. This video isn't that bad and i say it gets that pass of its ok if that part stayed in forever, it still provided context to the review of how much there is to do in the game and doesn't praise for people to really go to their channel, hence why i believe it be nice for it to be taken out but overall this has a pass for it to stay how it is.
I think it’s a strong testament to the quality of this game that Sequel haters and Sequel apologists both vastly enjoyed it, it was nice to play a game where they poked fun of the ridiculous moments without it devolving into “______ movie is so dumb haha”

I have to agree Lego media franchise does really bring out the great parts, even the Lego Batman games/films to me are more enjoyable. Feel that the space combat in this game is actually more fun and engaging than Battlefront 2 and that's an achievement in itself.
This game is seriously a special gem, and I would LOVE to see the actual ground devs get the support they deserve.
I hope they do a Clone Wars DLC! I'd buy that in a heartbeat!

I did the Steam remote play together thing with two different buddies of mine. One of them went to buy the game for themselves to keep playing, and the other one had an absolute blast as we played for hours.
It threw me back down memory lane as a kid when I played with my siblings back when Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy came out on the Xbox 360.
Especially in the time when more serious games nowadays are soulless, half-baked, and sucked lifeless by corporate greed and microtransactions-playing this game felt like giving my childhood a warm hug.
This has been a good year for video games. If Starfield and Ragnarok live up to the hype then this’ll be one of the best in awhile.
Best since 2017 already. Played Elden ring and I think that’s the greatest game I will

So far the game has been alot of fun! And other then missing the character maker and the battle of genosis and corosaunt which is a real bummer I'm having a good time! I will say it's just weird the dlc for bad batch and solo are missing omega and l337

I absolutely love this game and am astonished at the scale of a lot of the worlds but even after 2 years of delays, it feels unfinished and heres why:
1. SO many bugs, characters getting soft locked, every time i do a space mission theres a bunch of visual glitches as if im inside a star destroyer (has happened literally every time i get pulled out of hyperspace), many game crashes, other people (not me personally) have even had game breaking bugs making them restart
2. Missing fan favorite characters, even ones from the movies in favor of characters i haven’t even heard of and im a HUGE star wars fan so that was pretty surprising
3. Missing many battles, and only one large scale battle the whole game (which is the gungan battle like the least fun one, although obviously it was still very fun). How can u miss battles like the space battle over coruscant!! Or even missions like the death star trench run are ridiculously short. There should have been way more or longer on rail space battle missions
4. Short missions. Yes i know the game is huge and there is a lot of collecting, but most of the puzzles are so boringly simple even for the games target audience that im surprised that 200 or more of those kyber bricks werent moved to missions
5. Missing capital ships. This ones a bit selfish but i just want to own a venator lmao.
6. Difficulty slider. This one is a minor critique and understandable why its not there. The game is for kids. But the fact that the game is way to easy before upgrades shows that with upgrades its a joke. Why not add a difficulty slider so that the game doesnt change for kids, but the upgrades become meaningful for anyone who wants them to. Or even just for free play to make free play more interesting.
Overall the game is amazing and the hard work of the developers clearly shines through, but it would have been nice to get some of these features, and/or had this developer hard work and care gone to places that would have been more impactful. I will still be playing the game for a long time however, and encourage anyone who hasnt bought it to do so.
Pretty much agree with everything here, especially about the bugs. I have yet to play a session of this game without a bug that brings everything to a screeching halt. It also seems to be really poorly optimized, with some planets going from over 100fps down to 20 or less. Bugs are a big deal when they are this frequent and its not cool that they just ignored how many this game has.
What a great intro! the music joke cracked me the fk up and mad respect for starting the review by mentioning the crunch, the more media folks talk about the mistreatment of games company staff the more likely we'll eventually reach a point where they are treating like human beings. I'll take games with less features or that are shorter in length if it means the developers get to go home in the evenings and weekends to spend time with their families, or you know simply get to go home and enjoy some games on their own if they are maidenless.

I really don't understand the love this game is getting. Compared to "The Force Awakens" or even "The Complete Saga", this is a huge downgrade in every possible way, except graphics. Short levels, lack of meaningful co-op (or just co-op in general), blink-and-you-miss-it storytelling pacing, pointless open world environments, pointless collect-a-thons, an upgrade tree that makes an easy game even easier, 300 characters that are mostly just palette swaps of each other, boring side quests, and activities, and sequences that should be playable, but only happen in cutscenes. Like, I don't get it.
When I heard they were adding a mumble mode, I immediately knew I’d fall in love with this game.
