    I'm very happy about these second generation roguelites, because they have an ending, a story. That was my biggest pet peeve with the original ones. Like you said, they are meant to be played and that's it. But Hades, and Cult of the Lamb has more than that, it's not just play to play. It feels like the roguelites games have soul now, which I personally felt the first generation roguelites, like Slay the Spire never did. Instead, they are just "Go to the end, don't die"; while the newer ones feel like they have a purpose or a lesson.

    For the inevitable expansion to add synergy that was lacking in the games combat as you said I thought of being able to fuse two weapons or a weapon and a curse together for both slots. Have them change completely how they interact and function as well as add tarots that diversify the builds more. Give us charms or runes of some sort that function similarly to curses that add passive effects to weapons like for instance “more gold when killing with dagger or send out a knock back wave of water with the mallet”

    Shillzy - I hadnt played any computer games for ~20 years. Last year the youtube algo dropped me into your Nier: Automata review and it was so compelling I purchased a PS4 and N:A just to see if it was real. Needless to say it was worth it. This review has had the same effect. See you on the other side.

    Y'know on one side I would love to see some replayability and more expansion of the management area and stuff to use maybe some electrical stuff such as getting followers to run in wheels to make power for lots of stuff. Buuuuuuut at the same time this game seems like a carefully balanced show. So I think as is it's really good and I work love to see some expansions later on

    13:10 I think that's the game's most important virtue, that it walks you through the principles of a cult without giving you a lecture. If this game didn't have cutesy graphics, it could be a great Lovecraftian game with a strong social commentary on how the so-called secular world runs on the same principles as a cult with human sacrifices.

    Anyone else encountering bugs in this game? It's a brand new release so I expected some bugs. This bug, however, will not let me erase the sins of my past.
    I early on made the mistake of covering my entire cult sanctuary with magma tiles thinking it would be cool to have my cult reside in a hellscape. I quickly realized that the hellscape I created was distracting from the peaceful experience of day to day life my loving flock. I meticulously removed the magma tiles, and even added a brick pathway from my demonic teleporter to the satanic church. Happy that I had transformed my hellscape back into a peaceful cultish pasture, I went out dungeoning to spread the good word. After returning victorious and with a couple extra followers to show my pretty pasture to, I was greeted by the ugly truth of my actions: I could not erase the hellscape. The magma tiles had returned, covering every inch of the once peaceful pasture. I again erased them all and rebuilt my brick pathway. Again I dungeoned, and again the hellscape greeted my return. I then unlocked and laid down a pretty mosaic pattern thinking to cover up the hellscape and convince my followers I had high taste and refinement. I thought maybe if I covered all the magma up people wouldn't notice the darkness creeping just under the surface. Another successful dungeon later, another hellscape greeting my return, no mosaics in sight. The magma was truly magma; it had melted the mosaic, revealing the desolation underneath it all.
    I've accepted the reality of my predicament. Try as I might to cover the hellscape I created, the magma always comes back, a reminder that no matter how hard I try, my cult of the devil will always be just that: a cute yet derranged cult of the devil.
    For real though is it just me or has anyone else accidentally created a permanent hellscape for their village? I just want to see pretty tiles and grass again 😭

    So this game is indeed amazing in its concept, but I think it is ultimately too simplistic. Combat is very simple, and it would have benefitted from the ability to choose a base weapon at the start of a run, and then getting various upgrades to that base type as you go, with successive runs upgrading the base weapon. Something like Hades. It's not as fun to just be locked into a weapon for a run, and it feels too random. The ability progression is very simple. You don't really get builds as you progress in a run, again, unlike Hades. I'm not seeing things like reflect projectiles, slow time, and things like that. It's also pretty easy to just hit dodge and roll your way through a run. In the village, it doesn't seem to make a difference what you do. Yes, it's got its charm in there, and like the opening to this review, pretty funny the things that happen, but then you realize it sort of doesn't matter. Can lose some or most of your followers and it has little effect on anything. You don't seem to be able to lose your village either, to some great calamity or lack of planning, so the game seems to be a one and done deal, which is too bad. Unique premise, not very well developed, and a bit simplistic on the gameplay loop, but such a cool idea. I'd not have reviewed it too terribly high imho, but just my take on it. I guess I don't regret getting it, but it definitely is not all that it seems to be made out to be by so many reviewers. Just my opinion.

    • @lswallie

      yea I am one of the dissenting negative opinions that this game is just kind of boring, the combat is really repetive and mediocre, and the base building tedious, i refunded after an hour

    • @ericsaari2901
      @ericsaari2901 2 роки тому

      @@lswallie I should have, but I played into it longer than that. Literally every review and pretty much every comment on Reddit loves the game, and I am sitting here looking at what I see as faults wondering why they weren't called out. Not a knock on Skill Up specifically, or anyone. This is one place I usually go to get an idea of a game. I read between the lines and decide for myself, but I failed here. Literally no one called out the over-simplistic nature and lack of depth this game has. Again, my opinion though.

    You sold me. Was disappointed to hear there's no long term replayability, but the more you talked about it the more I realized that's something I'd like. The occasional game that's meant to be played and beat and slowly drift off into memory serving as a sortof benchmark for future similar titles. Guardians of the Galaxy was like that for me. Thanks for all you do.
