I think saying this is "pre alpha" is a bit "incorrect." This definitely feels like late alpha or early beta, but pre alphas are more proof of concept than anything. Think...star citizen. This, while it has a lot of sucky things, is definitely beyond that. This is a game in need of 6 months of polish. If they had taken several months and polished the sound, the combat, the quests, the emptiness of the world, etc, it could have changed everything.
I’m burnt out on “a mile wide, an inch deep” games. The art style of this game is fantastic, if they had shot for a smaller but deeper game they could have really made something special here :(
@@simonphoenix3789 yeah I’m starting to realize that I’d much rather spend my money on even just a few hours of deep, interesting gameplay rather than 100 hours of bland, stretched thin gameplay
Shit man... You're right I'm sick of it. Cyberpunk didn't deliver and NOW THIS? I knew not to get hyped but Damm didn't know it'd be this bad...best open world that feels like shit is always happening is RDR2 still. I have yet to see it outdone it just unscripted encounters. MUCH appreciate the honesty every video hasn't addressed negatives. Which made me nervous.
They just tried to make a AAA game with nowhere near enough resources and manpower. Open world rpg with all the systems you'd expect made by 20 people? Not going to happen. And u agree, sometimes less is more.
May I recommend the Yakuza series? (if you haven't yet heard about it). They have very small and tightly packed open worlds (often just a city district), filled with crazy side activities, that often have narratives tied to them. Not to mention that the main story is one of the most unique and fascinating crime-dramas in gaming. If you find this interesting, I recommend you look-up Yakuza 0.
It feels like a group of great artists and animators got together to make a game but didn't hire a writer, composer, or level designer to finish the team. These developers need to flesh out their team and I think they can make something good. The art here was amazing.
Exactly, I just looked at the credits and there are only like 3 people handling game play and game design, while there are 9 full time artists + a lot of out sources artists. Basically too many artists producing assets, but not enough people integrating it properly into the game. Would explain all the emptiness in world where artists would just import the assets into the engine, but no interactable.
People are too obsessed with big open maps. Smaller, tightly designed and dense areas can be way more fun to explore, without the minutes straight of aimless running
I agree people don't realize big open world maps have to be filled with meaningful content or at least most developers don't. For every RDR2 and Witcher 3 there are a dozen ubisoft style cookie cutter games obsessed with just being as big as possible for no reason.
I haven't played this yet, but based on the footage and reviews and gameplay I've observed, I feel like the studio for this has a ton of potential, just not enough experience yet to realize it. As sub-par as this game looks to me, I really hope it makes enough money to fund their next project, because I really think the devs have something great in them, they may just need another try and a little better focus to make it happen.
Reading this review's title broke my heart this morning. These smaller dev studios need to stop trying to make massive, open-world games. This game likely would've been far better if it was a focused, traditionally-designed experience.
While I was getting my animation and game design degrees, one of the most prominent things the head of department repeatedly drilled into his students was, "Make an incredible short experience, not a long mediocre one." It was one of the most impactful things I learned from him, and it applies to all treks of life. So many people do not know how to manage their resources and the scope of what they can produce to a high level end product. Of course we all want more, bigger, better, but we rarely have the resources to achieve all of it.
The thing about game design is that when we do get a game that is long and is full of great experiences, it usually have the entire teams contribution in the creativity to populate the game world with enough cool and exciting experiences. Creativity can't just only be consolidated to a few people like art designer, game director, head of game design or mechanics. The whole team could come up or just randomly have creative things to add to the game spontaneously, if they are able to add it into the game. Honestly you can't expect 1 person like the game director to come up with a lot things to fill into the expansive world of a game that is 20+ hours long, they run into a dry spell on ideas. So having the whole team brainstorm to compile things to add helps. The way publishers are cracking the whips on the dev teams today, that really can't be allowed due to publisher's strict time constraints and scheduling.
I’ve been playing this game nonstop for days. It’s way beyond mediocre. I think Skill Up is a cool guy but I wouldn’t lean heavily on his opinion. I think the game is fantastic in more ways than one. The story is solid while making the entire world feel like one enthralling and magnetic seamless open world. There are so many places to discover and cool events to stumble upon. I’m actually very impressed a small team created this huge ambitious open world RPG with a lot of quest diversity and replay value. I strongly encourage this game to anyone who wants something fresh and different :)
I actually highly prefer long mediocre games (which is why I love Ubisoft, soulsborne games and jrpgs). I don't care how bloody amazing a game is, if it takes less than 30 hours to complete, I'm not paying 30 - 60 bucks for it (I will also not buy these on sale either, might buy them once their price actually drops down a lot).
@@atomsmasher703 I agree with you so much. I only buy a game if I can get the amount of hours as money I put into it. Also I love open world games because I love taking my time going around exploring every nook and cranny to make sure I got everything and 100% the game.
For me I don't really care if 1000 people make the game or 1 single person. The game has a triple-A price, so yes I will compare it to other triple-A titles.
That's a really good point you make. I didn't think about that (Triple A price, Triple A expectation). I'll definitely be looking at things different from now on. Thank you.
What about me who pre-ordered the game and am yet to play. I have started to get the Cyberpunk 2077 vibes even before the starting the game. Money lost 😭😭😭
Oh god. I just said to myself "as long as it's not another ubisoft type game". Even spider-man ps4 bored the pants off me when I got over the web slinging fun and realised all the side quests were boring and that was Insomniac.
@@muzamilnabinadroo Literally every reviewer screams at you not to pre-order. It’s a meme how shitty of an idea pre-ordering is. If you want to waste your money go for it, but don’t expect sympathy.
Bro, this is sad. I was so hyped. Edit- the comments below are as bad as the game. Most reviewers I trust and gameplay I seen make the game look terrible (my money is better spent on other things that have quality).
Yeah, it sounds like a lot of game developers conflate "time sink" with "challenge", and expect players to feel accomplishment just by sinking time into an activity. To be fair, that does happen "sometimes", but for a game to consistently rely on that principle demonstrates a lack of imagination.
This is why you shouldn't take developers like FromSoftware for granted, it takes an incredible amount of skill and craftsmanship to design something quite as challenging and exhilarating.
I think developers try to replicate the size of famous open worlds, such as those in Rockstar games, but they fail to add any depth or nuance to them. Over the years, I used to dislike Rockstar. I thought their game design was linear and old-fashioned. But looking back three years after RDR2... I've been taking Rockstar for granted. They just make high-quality, well-polished games with amazing open worlds, which is honestly rare nowadays. Their worlds are beautiful, full of life, have interesting random events, memorable characters, solid gameplay, even great music and sound design. It's no wonder they take almost a decade in between game releases. The only open world game that has come close in quality is Ghost of Tsushima, but as Skill Up said, GoT was more of a super refined Ubisoft game (still very good). It is hard to make an amazing open world that is as large and in-depth as those Rockstar has made historically. And I think many game companies only aim for scale/size in order to show off in trailers.
@@LASAGNA_LARRY I agree... Rockstar games are so well done because they take the time to polish. CDP Red mentioned "Will launch when it's ready" Rockstar shows this quote without mentioning a word. I think we should stop taking developer words and look at what actions were taken prior and post. We establish trust afterwards when everyone gets their hands on the title thats been anticipated. Hype is a rare dish and should not be used lightly as the dissapointment can be catastrophic.
The studio seems very receptive to the feedback they're getting and want to improve the game I'm withholding my judgement for a few updates hoping things get better.
Game devs who take the good, valid criticism and improve their product with it are kinda some of my heroes. Hello Games rose from the ashes of a truly disastrous release, as have some others; I too am open to the possibility.
@@liesdamnlies3372 Some minor feedback is reasonable... But this is their job, not ours, and they shouldn't need us to tell them how to do it. For me, their "hero" status ends when they charge me money for something rubbish and then expect me to wait around possibly years while they fix it (which might never even happen). If they really need the advice and feedback, there are consultants and other experienced people working in the industry they could hire to help improve it before they sell it, rather than listening to the complaints of the unhappy, unqualified, general public after release.
I doubt they can fix the repetive nature of the game in dialog, quests and so on. Just minor things like the pointless narrator can be fixed outright by removing.
@@kyotheman69 they probably didn't mean it *looked* good in the literal sense of looking, but the figurative one. I also thought it *looked* decently compelling mechanically, in its tone and as an open world etc. But yes, your point is perfectly valid.
You should form your own opinion and experience before trusting every work of someome else. This title triggered me, but i for one, doesn't care about others opinion until i've experienced it for myself. You should do that aswell. :)
So from what I gather, this team can make a beautiful world and runs well on PC but lacks in a lot of other areas. They need to be hired for what they are good at and have other teams do the rest.
I didn't gather that. The game looks terrible. It barely uses 3GB VRAM. It performs absolutely and disgustingly terrible. So, the game size is small, the textures are tiny... yet the performance and visuals are bad, blurry and plain. Doesn't even use more than 15% of my Ryzen 3600 lol. Don't confuse "bright colors" with good graphics.
@@JustAGuy85 Same CPU and the game runs flawlessly, like easy 60FPS an 2k with everything maxed. Your system has issues if it cant play this game properly. Also if you think this game looks bad graphically then you have some pretty unrealistic expectations.
Egh... When I saw the trailers and gameplay trailers I was quite convinced it WAS a ubisoft game without double checking it. Now that he mentions that it's made by somebody different I was like: wait what?
To me it's almost a non-statement. Do you know what game has a huge map and Ubisoft-style towers to reveal points of interest in the map? Breath of the Wild.
Like I haven't been happy with a game for at least 3 years, Cyberpunk nearly forced me to give up in gaming, and the PS games obviously are only for consoles and I am a PC gamer only. I hope sony will end bringing Ghost of Tsushima to PC. Any game recommendations?
@@alanalb1449 Depends, what are you looking for? I can say that if you want more passionate project with some interesting game design going for it I would look at Indie. Valheim for example even for an early access is faaaaaaaaaar more complete than any third party triple A release in a long while. I can also recommend Risk of Rain 2.
My PC version on Steam worked fine for the 1st 4 hours but now the game keeps crashing every 5 minutes with UE4 D3D errors even if I just stay on the main menu.
I had issues where my gun wouldn’t fire after creating one. You have to reload then switch to another gun and switch back. I was playing on EA’s launcher.
Idk what kind of anticheat/pirate security biomutant had, but it might be that. I had exactly your problem with other games. Now I stopped buying them and just pirate most games again like old Times. Sure I feel bad about not paying on one hand, but on the other hand they need to make the game work correctly. Those damn anticheat/antipirate programs like Lenovo are the actual problem in most current games. Pirating them removes this problem. I feel like new studios start out too big. First game has to be a win to make money, to attract crowd, and investors i think. Having a simple, yet fun idea for a game is fine too. The big thing about the Arkham games for me was the synergy between all the elements when it came to combat. The camera, sound, visual ques all combine and work together to enable you to make some really good tactical choices that make you feel like batman, are challenging to pull off but aren't so compressed that it's confusing. It's a really great balance in giving the player the tools and hints to be great but also giving them a hard challenge. This game looks like it does neither.
This seems like a that has been through many iterations that weren't fully develop so it just became a frankensteined mix of half baked gameplay mechanics and world design
It gives me that Hello Games + Sony vibe where they started with a smaller project and THQ/Sony came along and were like "yo, you could make this bigger so we can push it harder!"
In all honesty this game just feels very empty, but that means that for someone like me who adores modding it makes me wanna just go in there and fill all those empty spots on the map with npcs, strongholds or what have you. So even though this game might lack in that, I think with some tinkering on the side of either the devs or the community this game could become really fun to explore.
Yeah, this game needed some more level designers. I think they blasted it in the art area though. But that dont matter when the game is just meh. We really do need some more advanced sci fi concepts thoigh
World is super emtpy I AM shocked! Game runs so bad on standard PS4. When I change my armor to change the visual appereance of my character my holster was floating a few inches away from where it should be. Cutscenes start out of the blue no transistions at all. Emptier than Ubisoft
I haven't played it, but botw always looked kinda empty. Which is exactly what biomutant is. It doesn't work on a bigger map and more powerful consoles
@@jamesb7205 It's everything else that BotW does right that makes it such a good game, paired with how nice its open world is. Some parts are empty of course, as many open world games tend to be but everything else about the game distracted me from it. I'm not biased from it either as it was my first Zelda game and the only open world games I played before it really was Far Cry 3 and Skyrim, the former of which I didn't even complete. Not to mention the gameplay elements that are littered throughout the world so you're never just running around endlessly. There's always a new area, new shrine, new secrets and new puzzles scattered everywhere but you also don't need to explore any of it if you don't want to. Can beat the game by just going straight to Ganon if you want.
@@ShadowVipers well said. I remember seeing an interview with a sound designer and basically said the same thing: the best sound design is the one that makes the game feel great, but not one that pulls you out of it.

Yeh, wishlisted it on Steam a week ago because I thought "Hey, that looks new", but it's just the Skyrim problem over and over. Vast as the ocean, shallow as a puddle.
It is far better than Skill Up sees it. Some of his criticisms are just far off the mark (some are apt if not presented a bit hyperbolic), or flat out contradicted by my own experience. Same with the water monster thing leaping out of the water. If a team with a couple dozen people wants to make an open-world game that is similar in scope to a game Ubisoft would make with hundreds of employees, it's no wonder that most of the cutscenes suck
I think once they hear the feedback the second one will be way better. I see so much potential if they listen to us. Witch with a smaller team is more likely to happen.
The Visuals are nice but gameplay doesn't, thats what happens with a lot of games with a small team of devs it doesn't exactly deliver and they'll charge a lot this is just another one.

Reached this point today. Eventually, it becomes pointless. Eventually you realize the next quest you're going to do is just a rehash of the previous one. Eventually you realize that exploring the open world has no real benefit, or pretty underwhelming if any. It was ambitious, I would give it that but I would say temper your expectations when you pick this up because you are going to need that. The developer's last Reddit post about their plans for the game was kind of the final nail in the coffin. Might have to slow down on pre-ordering now with the recent launch disasters I've fallen for (Cyberpunk, Outriders) and really wait a week until the reviews come in. Only exception would be Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West.
Odyssey's level scaling and system really detracts from the open world formula that I usually like from Ubisoft. Every now and then I'll just go back and recomplete Black Flag for the hell of it.
Yeah AC Odyssey broke me too man.... I got like 10 hours deep and finally just uninstalled it. Fighting the same enemies in identical looking places again and again and again and again just isn’t for me.
I'm about 26 hours into Biomutant, level 35 and its probably going to take me about 50-60 hours to complete everything which I'm happy its not just a run and done type of game . Sure this game isn't for everyone, but I think this review was a bit too harsh in my opinion. I love the customization this game has from the many different styles of armor to finding pieces to create a badass 2-hander Giga-Blade with a bone for a handle. There's secret mounts from bats to automatons you can ride on, and crafting pieces. A few things I disliked was of the many reskins on enemies and I think combat could have been tweaked a little to make the combat feel a little bit more responsive. I love how they include an "area completed" pop up to show you grabbed everything from that area( just think how if they didn't include this how many people would be pulling there hair out asking "did i find everything??") Game runs great on max settings. People complain about the loot feeling the same everywhere but don't tell you that you can scrap these pieces for more scrap and upgrade armor and weapons with it( It takes ALOT to fully upgrade weapons, so keep that "worthless" loot coming). I do love the fact the game gives you the option to end the war early if you want with the other tribes, a lot of people do this. If you do this option you cannot obtain the remaining tribes unique weapons and there wung-fu's though as a drawback; which some how was not mentioned in this review? Final standings; I love this game. I had no expectations coming into this game so that could sway my opinion to a brighter side of things.
I agree 100% I'm at 25 hours. No one should even review this unless they put 30-60 hours in it. He says there is only one type of puzzle which isn't even accurate
People are being blocked at the door with harsh reviews and are not seeking their own experiences. I am happy you found your joy in this game. I love this game.
i agree with this and comparing this yo breat of the wild...(i think botw was fucking bad just another ubisoft tower climbing game)biomutant just feels like another open world its not ghost of tsushima but still warrant a good try....and the guy finishing the game in 12 hours tells me a lot on the type of gamer he is

Revisiting this game in 2023 and kind of loving it. It runs and looks so good on series x now. It has one of the very best scores ever written for a game. The music is simply on another level. The world is beautiful and fun to just chill out in. The combat can be a lot of fun. Looting is fun. And most of all, there is a lot of compassion to be found in the world. I actually feel bad for many of these freaky little furry weirdos. The voice acting is terrible, especially those little white / black angel things - that whole morality system should have been cut. But overall, given my perspective now, I think critics were far to harsh on this game.
The biggest red flag to me about this game I saw was when one of the lead devs on the team said there was “hundreds of millions of combinations for crafting and attachments for weapons”. That’s just textbook overhyping and I would argue just blatant lying.
I guess I'm the only one who likes this game... :D I love the combat, the enviroment, the graphics, the customization, the crafting, the enemy variety (as far as their looks), the upgrade system and the multiple choices. And what you said is also very true, I never had one glitch or bug, it runs extremely smooth.
i havent played this, but i have to say, this review didn't... unsell me on the game you know? like the complaints about the sound were so petty to me like i honestly found it... fine?? it's just not loud bangs and effects, i guess. the only thing i found weird was the catapult scene being absolutely quiet lmaoo the complaints about the lack of feedback in combat also seemed quite petty nitpicks. you know when he said he adjusts his expectations based on the size of the studio? this didn't seem like that at all lmao. like ive seen worse combat, even just from looking, from much bigger studios. as far as the repetitive mechanic, yeah. i'm not sure if his intention was to make it sound worse than the average, but it also seemed pretty regular to me. the assault-map-conquering thing and the repetitive layouts are definitely not that rare. and i agree that it can be boring, which is why i really like the "skipping" mechanic?????? take a game like valhalla for example.... after pillaging 30 cities you start to be kind of over it. i would have loved the ability to skip some of those lmao. however, valhalla had other elements that made the game worth playing, like story and "camp" mechanics (and listen i'm not saying that it was an oscar worthy narrative or anything, but i'm quite easy to please with game plots). if i had to critique anything about biomutant's world, i would say it's empty, for sure. and the plot is weak, okay. but repetitive? idk man, anything gets repetitive after you do it for more than fifteen hours. maybe this tendency to release 100+ hour long videogames nowadays is why i can't take that particular criticism seriously, it seems like something everyone complains about all the time, and to me that's not a GAMEPLAY issue, just a matter of games being way too long. ps.: he's really out here trying to tell me that this game doesn't resemble botw when that game id also empty as all hell?? come on, man.....
@@fxls5300 I decided to play BOTW because I had the sneaking suspicion he was completely overlooking that games mechanics and ignoring the similarities of the two, and just as I thought yup. Idk why he’s so willing to overlook those things in other games.
Same i hardly ever pre-order a game the one time i do its for cp2077 and this one is trash the other looks good but will probably go stale in a week unfortunately
I’ve been reading the comments a bit and I wanna say, honestly if you wanted to play the game, buy the game. Reviews are good and all but ultimately everyone has their own opinion. Try the game out and draw your own conclusions. :)
I've had 0 crashes or issue on ps4, it also runs extremely smoothly, save time is so fast it actually surprised me a few times. So yeah the technical stuff are good, but still has a lot of quality stuff missing.
The way the enemies have no reaction to your attacks was so frustrating to watch. Attacks depending on whether they are light, heavy, or special should carry different weight in a fight to give combat texture. Those little cutscene have horrible sound design and look floaty and impactless.. With polish maybe this could feel more immersive and impactful. The traversal should have wind and grass rustling too, but yea I don't need another huge open world to get bored in.
You get different effects on weapons which affect their impact on different sized enemies. Foliage does rustle. This review is a poor representation of the game.
@@captainjazzman I watched streams of this game, and by rustling I don't just mean moving.. there should be sound that matches the movement. In comparison to another $60 game like Ghost of Tsushima the world you traverse just doesn't feel alive.
Damn man, shame this didn't work out. Still hope the devs will be able to stay afloat and make something else with lessons learned from this ambitious project.
@Davish Hurbunsee From what I've seen in this video I know it wont keep my interest, the missing audio ques alone tend to bug me a lot. But that's just me, I cannot justify current price tag for something that most likely I will not like. There's clearly good bones in this game and devs can build on it and make something truly amazing. What they have achieved with this title alone is impressive considering the size of the team and how well they are taking this review cycle.
My major complaint was that that combat became very repetitive and once you have mastered the crafting and have a few ultimate weapons, even in the hardest difficulty, it was easy to destroy everything. Also, I never used the suits. In fact, by the time I got to a spot where I got the first Bio suit that gave me 100% bio protection, I already have 100% Bio, Rad, Flame, Ice, AND Oxygen resistance from a combination of my equipment and bio points. I mean, after you go to your first 2 nuclear power plants using just what ever bio resistance you got laying in your inventory from exploration, you walk out with anywhere from 20 to 30 bio points and if you invest them all in your resistances and put on a pair of Lotus pants, boom, 100% resistances across the board. I hadn't even hardly cleared the lower left corner area and was level 15 when I got the Bio suite which was worthless by then.
I also notice from early gameplay videos that it’s a big beautiful world but there’s not enough people and enemies filling the world. I let it slide but now it hurts my heart cause I wanted to try this game.
So go play it if you really want to. Just because a game reviewer doesn't recommend a particular game, that shouldn't stop you from trying it out and formulating your own opinion if the game still looks interesting and fun to you.
I’ve watched a ton of reviews now and it sounds to me like the dev team way overshot what they were capable of. I think they tried too hard to compete with the size of AAA games instead of just focusing on making something truly deep and fun. This one is a huge disappointment for me, I’m not even considering buying it on sale at this point.

@@rekktt7952 I don't hate Star Citizen, but it has undeniable scope creep. One need only look at their stretch goals to see that what they were planning would not be achievable within the time frame they set for themselves. Any of the time frames really. Apparently not in the budget department either as I believe it was reported that most of the crowdfunding money had already been used at some point. If it's not a scam, then it's definitely mismanagement. Either way, I'm entirely indifferent towards it. Yeah, it's pretty scummy that they're promising the moon and taking people's money without anything notable to show for it, but it was also their choice to spend that money on nothing more than a promise that there would be a functional game someday and well... We all reap what we sow one day. If I want a good space sim, I'm just going to play Elite Dangerous instead. It's actually functional and they're adding space legs real soon so it'll pretty much be Star Citizen under another name eventually.
I want to start this comment off by saying that I genuinely love Shill Up’s videos, and can very much appreciate his honesty and approach to reviewing. The industry needs ALOT more people like him. With that being said - Ahem. The need resides within my soul to let out a small but confident war cry in favor of this game in hopes that it is able to amass a small cult following in the coming years. I want to make it clear, it is NOT my intention to come here and disagree with Mr. Skill Up simply for the sake of doing so, nor is it to be a troll. I just really want to say that Biomutant, despite its shortcomings and undercooked elements, is a beautiful game. Not just visually either. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there is something about this game that has enabled it to take a seat amongst my favorite games I’ve played throughout my life. I can’t help but feel like I’m crazy when I watch/read any coverage on this game and see it being met with lukewarm, if not, straight up bad reception; because when I play it I am taken and totally immersed in a game world that I’ve never quite experienced anything like before. The environments, design, enemies, and overall feel of the game really bring to life this sense of wonder and excitement to explore. While the things to do may lean into Ubisoft territory of busy work and backtracking for nearly pointless things, for me it just doesn’t feel like pointless busy work. The variety of enemies (at least visually) and the environments themselves really make me feel like I’m embarking on a grand journey through this imaginative world of dangers that come in all shapes and sizes, and taking on something truly greater than my small rat like character. As for the combat, sure, at times it can feel floaty and like it lacks impact, especially with the melee, but I’ve found that if you take the time and perform the combos and different wung fu moves, combat can have a tiny bit more oomph than It does if you just mash the attack button. While it can definitely use work, I have hope that it can be polished up with updates, and even if it can’t, I honestly enjoy the combat well enough to be excited to enter new areas and take on all of the wild looking enemies. Many of which are variants of common enemies which I have never seen before. Aside from combat, the story isn’t anything remarkable, it’s nice and light hearted though, and it helps add to the overall sense of wonder that blankets the rest of the game. Hell, I even enjoy the narrator. I haven’t turned the frequency down from the default setting even once yet. I don’t know, I don’t want to sound like a contrarian. And this probably sounds outright stupid to a lot of people. But I truly think Biomutant, in its current state, is still an amazing game. If there is ANY part of you that feels despite the reviews and coverage of the game at the moment, you can still potentially find something to love in this game, please please pick it up at retail price. We need to support AA games and developers like this if we want to have any hope of more unique games in the future that are willing to take a different approach in a couple of categories and execute on a vision. There is SO much more I want to say about this game, but it’s about 4am, no one is going to read all this anyway, and i need to get back to playing Biomutant.

The way publishers are cracking the whips on the dev teams today, that really can't be allowed due to publisher's strict time constraints and scheduling.
a lot of game dissaster seem to occur because of getting stuck into devoleping an ambitious idea without a proper direction to it.

To be fair, that does happen "sometimes", but for a game to consistently rely on that principle demonstrates a lack of imagination.
Well observed, and nicely put.
Well spoken. I couldn't agree more.
Hype is a rare dish and should not be used lightly as the dissapointment can be catastrophic.

If you do this option you cannot obtain the remaining tribes unique weapons and there wung-fu's though as a drawback; which some how was not mentioned in this review?

like the complaints about the sound were so petty to me like i honestly found it... fine?? it's just not loud bangs and effects, i guess. the only thing i found weird was the catapult scene being absolutely quiet lmaoo
the complaints about the lack of feedback in combat also seemed quite petty nitpicks. you know when he said he adjusts his expectations based on the size of the studio? this didn't seem like that at all lmao. like ive seen worse combat, even just from looking, from much bigger studios.
as far as the repetitive mechanic, yeah. i'm not sure if his intention was to make it sound worse than the average, but it also seemed pretty regular to me. the assault-map-conquering thing and the repetitive layouts are definitely not that rare. and i agree that it can be boring, which is why i really like the "skipping" mechanic?????? take a game like valhalla for example.... after pillaging 30 cities you start to be kind of over it. i would have loved the ability to skip some of those lmao.
however, valhalla had other elements that made the game worth playing, like story and "camp" mechanics (and listen i'm not saying that it was an oscar worthy narrative or anything, but i'm quite easy to please with game plots). if i had to critique anything about biomutant's world, i would say it's empty, for sure. and the plot is weak, okay. but repetitive? idk man, anything gets repetitive after you do it for more than fifteen hours. maybe this tendency to release 100+ hour long videogames nowadays is why i can't take that particular criticism seriously, it seems like something everyone complains about all the time, and to me that's not a GAMEPLAY issue, just a matter of games being way too long.
ps.: he's really out here trying to tell me that this game doesn't resemble botw when that game id also empty as all hell?? come on, man.....

The way the enemies have no reaction to your attacks was so frustrating to watch. Attacks depending on whether they are light, heavy, or special should carry different weight in a fight to give combat texture.
What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be a deprecated, forgotten gun?

@@epicgamerzfail4575 why you gotta hurt me something so true.

I've played (am playing) the game and I'm enjoying it a lot DESPITE the flaws, pretty much all of which Skill up mentioned. I trust Skill up as a reviewer and he definetly influences some of my purchases, however to assume that his tastes would overlap with mine (or yours) perfectly is in itself defeating the purpose of reviewers.
I don't trust skill up to like what I like. I do trust him to form an informed opinion when it comes to open-world sandbox games, because as you said, he likes the genre. That still doesn't mean he likes what I like. A game being good or not is always subjective.

"Scope Creep: The Video Game"
Oh, it's bedmates with Star Citizen?
Star Citizen is purposeful scope creep to milk the whales. This one at least seems like a genuine go at a game. Still a pass for me though.
no, this game is scope creep, star citizen is just a scam
@@rekktt7952 Ah, I was wondering whether I'd see a Star Citizen fanboy below that comment. You sure didn't disappoint...
It's actually functional and they're adding space legs real soon so it'll pretty much be Star Citizen under another name eventually.
sounds like this would be fun for 20$, just not 60$.

By the first half of the video I was thinking: "stop, he's already dead."
I want to start this comment off by saying that I genuinely love Shill Up’s videos, and can very much appreciate his honesty and approach to reviewing. The industry needs ALOT more people like him. With that being said -
Ahem.
Thanks Experiment 101, thanks Skill Up, and thank you surfshark. Peace.
It’s like the forgot to put the final sound into this game
No no no, you guys are getting thid wrong. Most people don't get it, the dialogue system itself indicates the fact that biomutant is not trying to be serious, rather aimed at younger audiences and definitely trying to be cute and hilarious. It's an open world fantasy RPG that is meant to make you sit back and breeze through the world without giving you a hard time. The puns and aster eggs and everything in it indicates thr fact that this is not trying to be a Dark souls game
@@JohnJohn-pm9wq no one said it was trying to be like dark souls. Games for kids don't have to be shitty, if they are then it's just trying to be a cash grab

I'd much rather waste my money than have my precious and limited time wasted on a non worthy game 😅
You realise you can play "bad" games and still have a very good time with it right? I mean I played Fast and Furious: Fury Road last year and the story and characters were really entertaining, even though everything in that game was terribly designed. Besides its not like the world is gona end if you play 1 bad game and end up "wasting" your time
@@wugira76 Yeah, but that's an edge case. With so many games having those "Yeah I know it's a little awkward at first, but it really clicks later!" sections, a reviewer that prioritises whether a game is worth that time investment is welcome and useful
@@wugira76 But why take the risk? there are alot of great games out there, and alot of shit games. I hate my time and money being wasted by bad games, and I've experienced this. Some people have different expectations from games. I'm not the type that "kills time" with videogames. I want an experience. So you gotta appreciate that some people are like that and may not look things through the same lens as you.
