I had the steering lock issue. They fixed it via a recall the first time but then it happened again 4 years later. I ended up hitting the silver box under the steering wheel with a small rubber mallot while spamming the start button and it started up. Then I ran to the fuse box and pulled the fuse that actuates that solenoid out so it never locks again. Had no issues since but it does allow you to turn the steering wheel while the car is off. Worth it since the dealer wanted $1,250 to fix.
Had a 2011 sports package, Nissan took care of the slave cylinder free of cost. Never had any other issues ~ at all. I ran synthetic Synthetic/ Mobile-1 oil, NOT the ester oil. Nissan-Z specialist recommended it right when I bought it. Never had any ticking noises, or oil consumption issues. I drove the car as my daily for 130k miles, trouble free except for the slave cylinder, 6 hours back on the road. I miss that car.
I've owned my 09 Sport/Touring 6MT 370z since 70k miles, October 2017. It's been an absolutely great "veericle" for me! Today, August 2021 I'm at 105k miles. I'm on stock cats and headers but have replaced the mid-pipe and muffler with the AAM S-Line Ti setup with blued tips. Sounds real throaty and damn good actually. I've heard a few with test pipes and I find them to be obnoxious! I've also done the K&N Typhoon intake setup, I know not the best but I really didn't want to remove the front bumper AND have to be worried about driving in the rain. I've also replaced the rotors, brake fluid, pads and brake lines with the kit from Z1, drilled and slotted rotors look great on this car.

Thank you I unfortunately for the 2nd time had the issue with the CSC yesterday, luckily all the work was through the dealership so I'm hoping they will warranty the work since it was fixed 3500 miles ago..

I replaced the steering wheel lock last week in my 09. I pulled the fuse 1.5 years ago after having issues and it started malfunctioning again even with the fuse removed. Got the part from an auto oarts store and it mentioned in the description that it had an improved design to help prevent the same issue from happening in the future. Also came with a device to reprogram keys which was kind of a lengthy process but not hard
No recall in Australia for the steering lock unfortunately. To save money I worked out it's an earth issue, simply create another wire hooked up to a rocker switch and connect to the main earth point on the driver side closest to door. A simple flick of the switch will fix the circuit and allow you to start your vehicle everytime. My earth wire I fitted connects into the plug where the pink wire is if your not sure.

I own a 15 370z, I twin turboed it, i track it and ive had the motor out twice just because. ... A couple things: The CSC is definitely a known issue., Either it was out of luck, or just because I flushed the fluid early on with motul rbf660 brake fluid, which will hold higher temps. When i upgraded clutches , it was a good purchase from Zspeed ( HD CSC) that did the trick. Also, the RBF660 along with heat wrapping the clutch line near the exhaust helps. Rear axle click: never happens on my car (45k on the odo as of this post) dunno if they upgraded the nut assy, ill have to check.. Fuel starvation: I did read about this in the forums, so it was always toppped to a half tank t the track before topping it off again. just before twin turboing the car, a walbro450 and a fuel return went in. Ive stretched my brain considering a fuel surge system or simply dropping in an oem pump behind the driver side port to simply help the venturi system dump fuel on to the passenger side ( theres a spot for it - drops right in) I havent had any failsafe cutoffs yet , so it looks my system is feeding the car. From what I understand is for a stock Z, the factory pump just needs an upgrade by default.. not so much a sloshing issue as that the pump is garbage,.... a walbro or aeromotive around the 255lph range should keep the car happy, from factory stock, to upgraded bolt-ons to match. Steering lock: this was an early model problem ( i think just the 09, or maybe the 2010. My 2015 does not have that feature, and no issues) Oil consumption: I truly have not seen an issue with oil consumption on my car. The car does like to blow by when you give it the beans though. CJ motorsports pcv delete (an fitting) to a catch can goes a long way to keep the pcv slutch from caking up the intake valves, lower plenum and essentially lowering the octane... Of note, if there is enough restriction from the catch can, the same pcv sludge will come out the breather, as i have found out. it doesnt hurt to join these hoses prior to the catch can, or buy 2 3-port catch cans to collect all of the goodies. add forced induction, you might want to look at air oil separators or other creative avenues.
My Mustang never ever broke, My 370z needed many fixes. I love both of them. This is a statement from a person that doesn't know cars, just the line of crap daddy told them.
well said i've had 2 mustangs and 2 370s and 1 350, the nissans were tanks with 1 minor issue between the 3 of them, 1 mustang was bought back for lemon law and the other one had miscellaneous issues I've never encountered in another car
I had a 2010 the steering column lock was under recall and it was replaced by the dealership at no charge but never had no other issues with the car and I drove it extremely hard mine did have a 7 speed Auto
I've got a 2012 which I bought brand new. I just had the steering lock issue around the middle of last year (****ing 2020!😛). They never actually recalled that part here in Australia so I was looking down the barrel of a bit over AU$2900 (just for the part, labour was going to push that to nearly AU$3200). Lucky for me that I didn't just pay it, I took it up with Nissan Australia head office and the guy from the service department at the dealer backed me up. In the end, they agreed to cover most of the cost, I paid just under AU$200. I was pretty happy with the outcome, given that the car was 8 years old and well out of warranty. Although it's disappointing that they only recalled it in some markets and not others, considering its the same part. Other than that, I've not had a single problem with it - that was the only time the car has ever been off the road for anything except the scheduled servicing. I love this car, looking forward to trying out the new one.
Before owning a car, most of the times people should not jump into conclusions about it (regarding if it's a good or a bad vehicle) and without owning it, the best thing a person can do is watch such a video with the issues. ... because issues come with time, it's better to be prepared.

For the steering lock issue, I took apart the module and locked the pin down that tells the computer its ok to start. I then put the module back and has been fine for 3 years. Key light will always be lit that is all.
I had the steering lock problem on my 2009 Altima i fixed mine by pulling the fuse and ever since every new Nissan or Infiniti vehicle i buy with a push start i pull that fuse
hey man, my 2009 370z is having same issue. was it easy for u to bump ur car into acc mode? and then pull the fuse? after you pulled the fuse, did you turn the car off and then back on and it worked properly? any advice? i know its been 8 months since your last post.
I have noticed this Nissan have a clutch switch that sticks and doesn't allow you to start the car. Quick fix is to go under the dash and flick the switch a couple of times. That should get you home to get it replaced. 👍
I've been blessed with my 2010 none of these issues and I put my car to work, daily driving it on the highway lots of messing around. I only have cosmetic issues like the back of my hatch right on top the paint is somehow fading but the rest of the car is fine. (Nissan paint is shit in old cars) Second issue I just got was when I start my car if it doesn't start the first time I have to wait 3 mins then I press the button again. It's probably just a wire issue. The OEM brakes are just so bad I'm at 75% but the pads are smooth af already lol
I'm telling you right now, look up how to remove the steering wheel lock fuse. Do it before the problem actually happens. My only symptom was the "key" light turned on. 2days later it wouldn't start, not even when inserted. I had to "hotwire" my car to get it to turn on and remove the fuse.

I have a 6MT in my 2019 sport coupe but haven't noticed any noises from the transmission. I did do an early fluid change at 5K miles and put in some Redline MT-85 gear oil, plus I gently broke the engine and drivetrain in over the first 1500 miles.
Loving the look of this car and thinking of pulling the trigger on a gently used one, and I dont mind the other issues, but dayum... why they gotta have an oil consumption problem?? Friggin tragic man. That's like the worst problem ever...
Years ago i bought a brand new 2012 370z from the dealer. I got ALL these issues described here 😒. Oil consumption was fixed with an oil cooler. Nice car but a total disaster from dealer
Another very common problem for that ticking or chattering acceleration is the oil galley gaskets! If its ticking can almost guarantee its this! You have an internal leak but wont even notice

My 2015 does not have that feature, and no issues)
Oil consumption: I truly have not seen an issue with oil consumption on my car.
+girald S Thanks for the feedback!
Looking to buy one of this beauties in 2026... Not many sports cars out there have this balance between fun, power potential and reliability!!
Why would anyone buy a car with so much hidden problems? O ya I forgot ....it’s still better than an American made car.
I test drove a 2020 with 1k miles. It's complete trash. Cheaply made.
My Mustang never ever broke, My 370z needed many fixes. I love both of them. This is a statement from a person that doesn't know cars, just the line of crap daddy told them.
all cars have problems hidden or not
@@Yammie_Moto671 Lots of squeaks and rattles?
well said i've had 2 mustangs and 2 370s and 1 350, the nissans were tanks with 1 minor issue between the 3 of them, 1 mustang was bought back for lemon law and the other one had miscellaneous issues I've never encountered in another car
I own a 2010 40th Anniversary Edition and never have a problem. Bullet proof and super fun
excellent, informative and concise communication w/o needless joking, going off on tangents, etc. Well done.

I had a 2010 the steering column lock was under recall and it was replaced by the dealership at no charge but never had no other issues with the car and I drove it extremely hard mine did have a 7 speed Auto
Did you replace it within the window of your warranty?
Thank you so much for making this vid. Great respect from Australia.
That's normal for most vehicles, sounds good thank you
I don't have a 370z but i enjoyed this video. I do however have it's big brother.

Before owning a car, most of the times people should not jump into conclusions about it (regarding if it's a good or a bad vehicle) and without owning it, the best thing a person can do is watch such a video with the issues.
... because issues come with time, it's better to be prepared.
I drive my hard in some days but overall just wear and tear from parts getting old. Pretty reliable too me
Awesome video, thank you! you guys are my go to whenever im looking into another vehicle to aquire
very informative and straight to the point, no useless chit chat
A+++

Fantastic video. Nissan should replace the axle hubs with the Kawasaki part before they sell the car.

Great information. I’m looking at a used 370Z roadster 7AT so I suppose I can disregard the first issue.

Im trying to decide between the G37S & A 370Z with the auto transmission i hate stick shift cars
@@kxngearner698 if you want to track and auto cross get the 370z but if you want to actually daily drive and actually use the car lol get the g37s. Only like a 200 pound difference with a wayyy better interior in my opinion
@@kxngearner698 definitely DO NOT buy a 370z in Automatic. U might look at a Genesis coupe instead.
C Alcock why??
This guy's jazz hands are phenomenal.
Great video on the 370Z, I'm looking at one now to purchased and wanted to know what issues to look for. Thanks
Thank you
To any z buyers, I would recommend a 2014 or later year. Bigger headers and factory oil cooler. Also my csc is at 52k. I just do a flush every 20k.
Wish I knew that 3 years ago lol. I purchased a vibrant red 2011, 28k miles one owner garage kept for 17k. I didn't pass the offer. Most Z in Houston is abuses lol
@@mrsantosjon Any issues so far?
They also corrected that steering lock issue after the 2012's.
Later year meaning before 2014 or after 2014 lol
Idc 🤷♂️ what I have to fix but definitely I’m buying a 370z
The clutch issue is something I have been dealing with my g37 as well
“Vehircle” you have a accent where you from brotha
Drift king Len
Yep, my csc went out on me already too. Also replaced steering lock. It all failed.
Pretty light problems compared to other cars lol. Made the right choice 😁😍. Just got my Z in July/August
replacing the engine is a small problem? u r weird.
There is a kit to convert the CSC to a regular fork/external slave setup.
This can also be applied to the 07+ 350z HR.
Great AND Helpful Thank You.
Problems With Solutions " now that is novel !"
my 2012 370z is sitting a little over 120k miles atm. no problems with it at all. replaced the clutch just because it had over 110,000 miles on it but it didnt fail.
Nice video. I'm looking at an Automatic 2009 370z with 279k miles. All is great with the vehicle but I am a bit concerned with the high mileage and it being an auto
My CSC went out. It's pretty scary when on the highway. I think I might trade it in before more issues start appearing.
+Rufio In Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
For the steering lock issue, I took apart the module and locked the pin down that tells the computer its ok to start. I then put the module back and has been fine for 3 years. Key light will always be lit that is all.
I have the module pulled from metal housing and zipped tied underneath hidden.
If it makes a dash light stay perpetually lit, that's not an acceptable fix for me.
I have had a 370z touring with a catback exhaust and Zero issues.... only 50k Mls but I rarely drive it
I always floor it at stop lights to where the car really comes alive like the S2000 where the growl comes in
I think there should be a part 2 to the 370z I know there’s more little issues
With it.
+Jose Montano Thanks for the feedback!
Not many, head on over to the 370z.com for a wealth of knowledge on this car.
I have to press and hold the gas peddle to turn on. Maybe a faulty fuel pressure pump
the cpu fail the windows fail the fuse box fails the driving lights fail
I'm shocked at how few problems these cars have!
Is the oil consumption because of the galley gasket going bad?
What year did they correct this issue?
I have noticed this Nissan have a clutch switch that sticks and doesn't allow you to start the car. Quick fix is to go under the dash and flick the switch a couple of times. That should get you home to get it replaced. 👍
In the process of buying a 2015 370z nismo it’s my first 370 so trying to see what all to be prepared for
I've been blessed with my 2010 none of these issues and I put my car to work, daily driving it on the highway lots of messing around. I only have cosmetic issues like the back of my hatch right on top the paint is somehow fading but the rest of the car is fine. (Nissan paint is shit in old cars)
Second issue I just got was when I start my car if it doesn't start the first time I have to wait 3 mins then I press the button again.
Great video and explanation of main faults. How Nissan let the Slave Cylinder be plastic and be rubbish for 350Z and 370Z I do not know. Would love to see this for GT86 please.
Is there a way to turn off the fake engine/exhaust noise? I think it's called the ANC or something like that..
Very good and important information. Thank you for posting.
Just waiting until my clutch needs replaced then I'll do the CSC at the same time. Hadn't heard of the rear axel click issue.
I have a 2019 6MT base with the sport package that has about 30k miles on it. I flush all of the driveline gear oils and the hydraulic fluids at one half of the Nissan recommended mileage intervals, plus I flushed the engine coolant at 30k miles. I'm having no problems at all with the car.
Dude just saved me literally $100 lol thank you
+ItsJustKaii Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
I used to have a 2009 370Z for 2 years and out of all those problems, I never had anything of them except the CSC going bad.
You should of also talked about the transmission noises it makes for the 6 speed manual.
I have a 6MT in my 2019 sport coupe but haven't noticed any noises from the transmission. I did do an early fluid change at 5K miles and put in some Redline MT-85 gear oil, plus I gently broke the engine and drivetrain in over the first 1500 miles.
I know what catch cans are and what they do. Adding one will not stop oil consumption.
My old 07 350z Nismo had the slave cylinder issue at 30,000 miles. Nissan paid for towing and had it fixed in the next day.
“Verhicle”
Does Z1's CSC Elimination kit help with the first problem?
Yes it does
Go zspeed
if you have a 09-13 watch out for gallery gaskets too!!
Love my Z, hate paying $1600 for my Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's..
Loving the look of this car and thinking of pulling the trigger on a gently used one, and I dont mind the other issues, but dayum... why they gotta have an oil consumption problem?? Friggin tragic man. That's like the worst problem ever...
As far as I know newer models do not have an oil consumption issue.
