I loved SS and even more, I loved Zybez radio. That radio was the biggest contributor to my taste in music in my early teens. The radio hosts would even announce random meetups/events out of the blue. Wish Runelite hosted their own radio, because those were some of my favourite RS memories.
Zybez Radio was amazing, I loved that you'd hop in the clan chats to request songs or just chat with all the other people listening to the same DJ. The community was super sick at that time, I truly miss those days.

People with limited time items like party hats generally don't want them becoming widely available because their item will become less special, but most players want a party hat because... It’s crazy. Think if Jagex tried to communicate with the Client owners first instead of just posting that BS and think if Jagex actually tried to improve their game instead of hinder the people developing it for them.
This is the really bizarre thing. Jagex/Gower are very bad at programming. Here (and at many other times) they had people voluntarily developing big, user-facing parts of their game, for free and enhancing the ecosystem (cf the radio). What's more, since there were multiple people doing it, it was essentially a breadth first search for desirable functionality that couldn't be achieved by Jagex doing it in-house even if they had competent programmers and money to pay them. Jagex are known for severely underpaying staff (hence why they've never had competent programmers). Surely, this would mean that they would welcome 3rd party development (modulo forcing them not to hide ads) as it saved them money.. but no. It genuinely boggles the mind. Someone spent 2k hours producing an HD version of your client? Any company that claims poverty would snap the dev's hand off for doing them the favour. Jagex instead threatens and sh-ts all over him because they supposedly have their own version 'in preliminary stages of being under discussion'. Wut?
Interestingly, the year that Jagex went off on all third party clients was the year that the US passed a law tightening rules on moderation of content made for children. Given their history of poor communication with the community, I wouldn't be surprised if they were freaking out about lawsuits stemming from toxic chat on 3rd party clients

Anyone remember Heart Unit pest control IRC chat, having to having high enough combat stats (like 110+ combat level when that was really rare) to join. And having to all hop worlds together whenever people found out which world we were on for pest control. Was able to do like 15-30 second pest control games for speedy points. Back when all portals spawned at the same time and you could play pest control in any world and there was only one boat for everyone. I used my 119 combat main to join Heart Unit IRC and used it to find the world for my pure I made. Was one of the very first purses with ice barrage and 90+ str because of how fast you could train with PC points back then. Also they used to call them purse “PC Prods” or “PC products” because it was also the only way to train combat stats without training HP using points, so it was the only way to get higher str or range than someone else could at your combat since they had to get HP up at a set rate

I really love that this video has those old ads. One of my earliest memories is being playRunescape on the family computer at 4 years old and falling for some "Shoot 3 targets, win a free iPod" scam ad. Fortunately I was too young to even have our address memorized, so my parents were just very confused when I asked them.
I had huge flashbacks to 117HD when you talked about Jagex trying to shut down a popular client and a riot ensuing. And then even bigger flashbacks when Jagex announced their own world switcher afterwards

12:25 I just noticed the Sal's Realm logo. Fun little thing, it used to be a dark blue background before it was made transparent. Not that it matters but there was one little pixel that made it look weird that wasn't part of the logo that was removed. Again, not that important but I was the one who submitted that. Ngl, I feel pretty good every time I see that logo now. :D
I remember listening to that Zybez radio and it used to play BANGERS on some of the stations. Especially the Alt and House/Trance stations. Which I could find a list of all that music and listen to it again man. Holy hell. And those IRCs! What a time.
I remember when I took a little break back in the day, right when swifrswitch changed to swiftkit, and when I went back I didn't know what happened, and it took me like a week to download the new named client because I thought it was really suspicious. Good days.
In 2006 when pest control came out there was only 1 boat and everyone used the one boat so they lost a lost of games. We used swiftkit back in the day and had a 100+ cb team world and it would change about every 30 min to keep it secret. My friend would leak me the world and I would follow these guys around at like 65 cb. We were winning games in 30 seconds getting 1 point every game. ( This was before shields and the current point system) 1 Point back then was worth quite a big of xp. I was getting like 220k strength xp per hour at 65 cb :)
I completely forgot about this entire subject. I had so many tabs of worlds saved to my bookmarks and I remember using swiftswitch but mostly swiftkit. Huge nostalgia
A neat way you used to get around the world switching was by loading into a random world then going to the browser and changing the text from let’s say 301-302! It worked very well and if you tried to log in it would just tell you the world was full! So you just sat there with your credentials plugged in clicking log in continue log in continue and so forth untill you logged in
Never understood world switchers. In the URL it literally said the world number. Change 84 to 2 for example , hit enter boom on the world 2 login screen
11:22 I remember meeting Zaflart Orts while he was mining iron in f2p after I had just started playing. I remember he told me his name was the dog's names from the jetsons backwards.
I never used SwiftSwitch but I literally got goosebumps when I realized you were about to say SwiftKit hahaha. Definitely used that and have fond memories of it
I'm a little disturbed at how I recognize basically all of those ads from playing runescape growing up. Laura Croft always watching over us while we got scammed of our mithril armour
Greatest client of all time for its time. I used it since I started playing in 2006 all the way to 2012 before quitting when eoc came out. I have so many good memories from screenshots I took back then on my old computer because of the client.
I liked autotalker and one click login. I hate that Jagex kiled also Zybez because of gold advertising - it was like the OG wikipedia for the game that explained very little to its players,
I love your research filled documentaries on this game! Keep up the great work. You are a blessing to this community and are so interesting to listen to.
I remember the swift kit hack and I was one of the poor dumb little kids that got hacked because of the rat. I didn't notice it at first because I had a bank pin and was doing mini games at the time so I didn't have items on me. the next day I came back after logging out with my items, and came back to them gone. I lost a purple phat that day along with full dragon. saddest day of my life up to that point.
I remember the whole change and the client panicking when they said they were going to ban the client 😂 then them not banning it I was so happy it was a big part of life was a part of a merching clan until I realised they were out for them selves so I used the item flipping price part and made a lot it was great SS and SK thankyou for bringing back memories I smiled all through this clip. RSN: V 0 0
yes I used swift switch right when it came out.. I was in a clan called #Blazing_Hearts.. Swift Switch had stuff that Runelite still doesn't.. the IRC chat was badass! #Pest_Control channel would be level 120+ and once enough low levels crashed we would just type in IRC and switch worlds (even when offline) it was awesome!!! NO ADS, Price lookup, High scores, clan chats, Personal chats (online &offline) I miss it tbh
am I the only one that feels like the mod that kept banning the client seems to just have a vendetta against the clients that did the devs jobs better than they did themselves?....
majority jmods was using irc and 99% of high level comunity this was one of the reasons ppl used sk program second of all jagex couldnt ban any player who used sk because it was imposible to track it. it was program with tools and in that program was built in browser. so there was no difference if u play through mozila or ie or sk.
Used to swift kit a lot back in the day I preferred it over the regular because I could get into World 2 easily. Hell I even used it all the way up to 2012.
The world was FULL but if I remember WAY WAY back correctly......in your browser , I am sure I was able to MANUALLY put the world number in the URL and just click enter, type in details, and ye- spam to login , correct? I didnt have to wait to get lucky that the world wasnt "FULL" in the list to select it... I am almost sure of this....... but its been a HOT minute lol.
It feels weird that after so many years now I know why my bookmarked world stopped working and what happened to swiftkit 😁 Ps: usually I would switch world just by changing the world number in url as I had few favourite that I liked to hop on.
back when i was an 11 yr old noob, i had the big brain idea to run 3 accounts in a train and buy eyes of newts at the wizards shop as an f2per for like 3gp ea and sell to members via forums for like 300ea. i was making close to 1m / hr and this would have been in like 2006-2007. did it for maybe 5 hrs in total but that was like a full 2 weeks of gameplay back then and 2 weeks was basically a lifetime. lol

That's awesome! Sounds like a lot of fun. :D
Lmao those guys like trade me for world (100+) would put an amount of coins in trade window and the number of coins was the world to go to. Good times
So you just sat there with your credentials plugged in clicking log in continue log in continue and so forth untill you logged in
Joining a full world back then should've been a skill in its own right. The nostalgia man. You've captured it all once again.
Just booted up an old laptop and still have SwiftKit Launcher v1.11 on it. Pretty cool to see after watching this video earlier this week
love how yt recommended this video for me and it's on my birth date
damn imagine if we went back to all worlds having 1k+ population per world
Well we also have probably 100+ more worlds now than we did back in the day
Never understood world switchers. In the URL it literally said the world number. Change 84 to 2 for example , hit enter boom on the world 2 login screen
Swiftkit was my life. Basically required to clan back in the day. When you showed the name change I couldn't believe I didn't realize it before.
11:22 I remember meeting Zaflart Orts while he was mining iron in f2p after I had just started playing. I remember he told me his name was the dog's names from the jetsons backwards.
Holy shit I used to use this back in the day! I 100% forgot this was a thing. Holy cow. What a blast from the past
I remember this back in the day. It's tedious when players go to war with the devs.
I never used SwiftSwitch but I literally got goosebumps when I realized you were about to say SwiftKit hahaha. Definitely used that and have fond memories of it
A hack i used to use via a browser was just changing the world number in the URL Link. It helped me so much
I'm a little disturbed at how I recognize basically all of those ads from playing runescape growing up. Laura Croft always watching over us while we got scammed of our mithril armour
World 34 was my go to world for no reason other than preference 1 and 2 was just if i wanted trade
I remember me and my 2 brothers both trying to get into world 2 in like 2006-2007 era😂
God i love runescape.
Greatest client of all time for its time. I used it since I started playing in 2006 all the way to 2012 before quitting when eoc came out. I have so many good memories from screenshots I took back then on my old computer because of the client.
All hail swiftswitch. Back when changing worlds without going back to the website was considered too op.
11:10 i can get behind those swiftswitch users
yes indeed
Dude I'd loved swiftswitch back in the day! It was so cool that you could change the color schemes and stuff on the client.
Been playing 20 years and never once have I heard about Swiftswitch... It really wasn't that hard to refresh to loggin lol
I liked autotalker and one click login. I hate that Jagex kiled also Zybez because of gold advertising - it was like the OG wikipedia for the game that explained very little to its players,
I remember how popular this client add on was. It was really helpful. Same with swift kit
Good ol swiftswitch, I still have the old bookmarks of all my favorite worlds on my old computer.
Had favorites in IE for worlds that were full. I recall there was a unique URL for each world
I haven't played in over 15 years but I still watch the videos
I used it more after it had changed to SwiftKit but man this was so nostalgic!!
I love your research filled documentaries on this game! Keep up the great work. You are a blessing to this community and are so interesting to listen to.
i never used clients until OSbuddy but i did use the mobile app for xp calculators and such and omg that was a memory buried so deep until today.
RSN: V 0 0
i miss SwiftSwitch - it had metal radio channels and stuff like bookmarking and everything - was amazing
7:40 I like how Jagex says "Bored?" about their own game for FTP
love the mind blowing content as always!
Thank you! :D
yes I used swift switch right when it came out..
Zybez Radio was on some wild shit. I always remember the EDM track choices and the Avenue Q track plays lmfao
''No SS, no RS''
yea not a slogan I will be shouting xD
am I the only one that feels like the mod that kept banning the client seems to just have a vendetta against the clients that did the devs jobs better than they did themselves?....
to this day othere still dev better🤣
That aint no mod... that was the creator of runescape
majority jmods was using irc and 99% of high level comunity this was one of the reasons ppl used sk program second of all jagex couldnt ban any player who used sk because it was imposible to track it. it was program with tools and in that program was built in browser. so there was no difference if u play through mozila or ie or sk.
I just love that no matter what falidor is the riot city of choice for runescapers.
swift was so amazing back in the day. I loved it so much
8:35 no, he was a fan of making money lmao. He did not care for the player experience.
Wow what a throwback lol great video!
Thank you!! :D
Not just the bookmark o.O
It feels weird that after so many years now I know why my bookmarked world stopped working and what happened to swiftkit 😁
Ps: usually I would switch world just by changing the world number in url as I had few favourite that I liked to hop on.
back when i was an 11 yr old noob, i had the big brain idea to run 3 accounts in a train and buy eyes of newts at the wizards shop as an f2per for like 3gp ea and sell to members via forums for like 300ea. i was making close to 1m / hr and this would have been in like 2006-2007. did it for maybe 5 hrs in total but that was like a full 2 weeks of gameplay back then and 2 weeks was basically a lifetime. lol
Wow I have thought of IRC in a long time. Lol I rem using that. I'm wondering how many times u said the word swift 🤣🤣 Very Interesting video. Can't wait to see more.
Thank you! :D
The ads for Tomb Raider and Sinbad make me feel really old. I think this is the first video that I've seen where my generation feels so long ago, and we're still in it lmfao.
Great content as always Nello!
Thank you!! :D
