Failure of missile doesn't indicate failure of aircraft. The aircraft successfully fired the missile, but the missile failed to hit the target. The R73 missile is the culprit. Tejas should be retested with other advanced missile systems.
Completely agree with you. Since R 73 has missed it's target , this is showing it's deficiency.

Just because a missile failed once doesn't mean it will fail every time with 100% probability
IAF has a huge stock of old missiles , that's why systems like SAMARs are created to exhaust them
if DRDO made the same mistake will the forces forgive them?
There's no excuse, why didn't they take the size into consideration before such a crucial demonstration. They just handed over a 4th gen warfare weapon to enemies.

@@AlphaDefenseHindi size was the problem. Heat signature also matters in infrared missile. Also proximity fuse needs the object to be big enough to reflect back the signal. You explained all this in your own video.
The r73 missile are old tech used to Target 3.5 gen jets . Big massive engine and massive jets easy to follow.
The r73 can't be used to kill small drones they are not designed for that . Today we all understand that clearly. The repurposing of these missile was a great Idea but the missile are not reliable enough. A simple drone could destroy your valuable assets if these missile miss it 50% of times.

We need to do something about R73. We can't afford its failure in real combat there's no 2nd change in such a fight.
Nothing can be done. It's simply an old missile we have e too many. We are manufacturing new missiles but the inventory of R-73 was built over 35 years. Too many of them are there. Upgrading them may be as expensive as simply making new ones.
Can't we develop a kit to improve the sensors. The missile just passed by so it's not like a complete failure. Just need better proximity sensors.

@@kaptainkc7415 The missiles are so old that it's cheaper to make new ones. The entire expense of the missile is actually the sensors and guidance kit. The warhead, fuel and structure is quite cheap. We might as well just make newer missiles instead of upgrading old ones.
Absolutely, there is ko 2nd chance in real combats.. there no 99.99% in real war it should be 100% accurate else you die...so there should not be any excuse for this kind of issue...we all are very proud of IAF but it feels realy bad when everytime they need to come with excuse. Be it balakot, 27th feb f16 down or in this occasion the vayu shakti excercise...
May be this is the reason that after 2019, IAF test fired MICA IR from SU-30. Python 5, Asraam is integrated on LCA

A public demo is not a test exam. This should have been done BEFORE the public demo.

Failure is the stepping stone of *SUCCESS*
But IAF had many stepping stones and they keep failing. On 2019 skirmish they couldn't fire a single missile against PAF. Imagine going to war with such missiles.

Missile hit the target while training for vayu shakti but failed to hit on main event... Obviously it's an issue but such thing happen machines are not always reliable also while actual battle they will carry multiple missile not just one so if not one another will hit

@@AlphaDefenseHindithis is partially true though. Yes these targets indeed resembles a fighter, but that's only in signature wise. Physical body presence also is very important. If there was a actual jet there, then the chances of the proximity fuse blowing up would have increased many times, and also as we have seen, it missed the target with very close distance, if there was a actual body of the jet, then the missile would have definitely detonated.
Good this means we can now fix it... These are good more practise... it will help us when we really need it.

I have a question regarding to this. Is it possible to change fuse and some other components of the old Soviet/Russians missile with modern ones to increase their reliability? Just like we are doing with migs and su 30 mki.
No surprises here considering the reliability of Russian equipment. Just look at the reliability and availability of their jets in IAF. Pretty abysmal.
Quality always matters. No wonder many advanced economies shun Russian equipment. For half priced equipment you get what you pay for 🙄
Lol it's not the Russian equipment it's Tejas and our desi jugad is at fault , Tejas literally missed and failed to lock at a target which was so close and moving in a straight line , Tejas will be our downfall in the future wars mark my word.

The missing of target by the missiles, could also be because of in effective priming too.

@@amazingshorts2095 Bro jamming environment works on raddar guided missiles not on IR seekers which chases targets based on heat signatures which means the only role of the aircraft is to launch the missile which can be done from any platform be it 5th gen f35 or 3.5 gen mig 21

It is how we can share our technology with enemies. Astra 1 also uses radio proximity fuse we must have to go for advance options of proximity fuse and seeker for our indigenous AAM and SAM. R73 is old IAF should have to order ASRAAM or Python. IAF must have to ensure using reliable system in display of power publicly.
They should have used some slower rockets (which increases accuracy) for slow moving small targets like drones. Fast missiles barely have any reaction time to get close enough to such targets. The right tool (weapon) for the job ... something like that, I believe, is the motto of all armies.
Technically, it is not very difficult to add or replace the target proximity sensing system which will be accurate and faster. You need not change the whole missile for that.
They should test the hypersonic missile also.
Now it is advisable to get sans from Us or uk as a stop gap arrangement until they rectify akash problems and the pretty old Russian r73.

Happened same in last vayushaskti excercise but seems like our airforce haven't learned anything from that.
Also immediately after the missile misfires the LCA swung its role to ground bombing and there the bomb dropped but didn't explode do we use real time bombs here or these are practice bomb bhaiya

India should involve the Tejas to more aerial exercises with other countries so as to showcase the capabilities and also to learn more about its usabilities, strengths and weaknesses. For some reason the IAF is reluctant to include Tejas but very happy to include Mig 21s and Mirages. Taking part in actual battle is the biggest selling point for any fighter jet.

I think, what people say about RF Proximity Fuse failing is false.. Instead what actually happened with SAM-AR is that RF Proximity fuse (in R73) was made to detect high RCS targets..
If it was Laser Proximity it would have been hilarious to see Pakistan and China respond to it.. Trust me, we know that Psychological warfare plays as SHOCK-AND-AWE effect towards enemies..😅
whatever happened in Vayushakti with Akash and SAM-AR Air Defence system was very good.. atleast it'll provide cover for actual India's capabilities in Rocket systems..😊
@Alpha defense Radio proximity fuse didn't work because of drone jammers... Was witnessing the live event. Jammer was not used on 11 Feb so all missile hit the target perfectly.
Everyone's knows that r73 is a old missiles and it have many problems, so why people are making this propaganda about Tejas, I don't know, it doesn't make any sense.
Also we already have many modern missiles as he said, even our own Astra series missiles are far better than this old missiles, so in actual warfare, this won't be a problem.

☝️Apart from R73 , Pyrhon, ASRAM Indian fighters are being integrated with Astra 1,2 and 3 so, no need to buy foreign missiles. The only question or problem is that what indian airforce can or will do with R73 missiles which they have in large numbers in their inventory. Can they be modified using better sensors and if they can be what will be the up gradation cost and how long will they be effective to be utilized by IAF, in ever changing requirements due to the fast changing technologies. Eg: sensors, speed, software, explosives, propellant and engine any of which can impact performance of a missile. 🙏🇮🇳
It's not the Tejas to be blamed , its the "missile" which failed to hit (direct hit (the Secker system) or the proximity fuze which failed to detonate. Tejas Jet has nothing to do in this matter
Akash was also not able to perform ,missed the target although recently it took down 4 targets simultaneously.

there is a typical class of so called " experts" in our country who are more than anxious to claim Tejas (all marks) a total failure. they are quite eager to replace it with an imported( unnamed) jet fighter at earliest. they will also name that jet fighter of their choice at an opportune time when they are asked. according to them basically this " make in India" policy is nothing but a sham and urgently needs to be looked into thoroughly for the total change by the top concerned authorities. as per them we Indians are totally incapable of producing an indigenous aircraft for any foreseeable future. what we at most can do is the assembly of a modern fighter aircraft.
Were these particular R-73s (that didn't self-detonate) manufactured in India? Was their RF proximity fuse designed or manufactured in India? Or is this old stock bought from Russia? Do we know any of this?

R73 is a very backdated missile which would fail against new era aircrafts. Russia is using the R73M version which is similar AIM120 and the PL15.
India should focus on effective systems.

मैने इस अभ्यास के कुछ विडिओ ANI पर देखे जो रात को हुआ है. ANI कि खास बात यह है के ये मिडिआ अपना ओपिनियन कभि नहि देता. और जो जैसा है वैसे पेश करता है. बिना बायस हुये. मैने जो विडिओ देखा उसमे पिछेसे कॉमेंट्रि चल रहि थि जिसमे टार्गेट हिट हो गया बताया गया. लेकिन टार्गेट मिस हुआ ये साफ दिख रहा था. मै कंफ्युज था. ऱात का विडिओ था ब्लैक अंड वाइट व्युजल्स थे सोचा मैने कुछ गलत देख लिया. लेकिन टार्गेट मिस हुआ है.

It happens in akash demonstration in night exercise,there too the proximity fuse didn't trigger and the commentators said if the bigger size aircraft would be there it will be triggered and target is down .

Akash he was confused ! Target was struck but wasn’t instantaneously in flames. However it fell down after some glide
In Akash systems both the missile blew up, that is proximity fuse worked, but missiles weren't close to target.
It was clearly told that these fired missiles were without any proximity fuse.. maybe you were watching on mute or not going through commentary

Can be done but then seeker and fuse are the costliest of the all..
Think about it this way, the only missile integrated and operational on the Tejas is the R 73s. The NGCCM (ASRAAM with India specific enhancements) is still being tested and tried on the Tejas (hence is not ready for live fire demonstrations). The R 73s on the SAMAR ADS are ones who's effective use life has run out. The missile still works, but wouldn't be as good when launched from a plane. So, instead of throwing away these "old" missiles, the IAF is experimenting with them as SRAD. "Upgrading" these missiles that go on the SAMAR defeats the main purpose in the first place (since we are just repurposing old and unused missiles). That being said, I still believe its unfair to expect a relatively old missile to hit a tiny target drone with a very high level of accuracy.

R73 is not a missile that we developed. So one can't expect lots of quality in a foreign system. This is exactly why our systems are better and superior.

Had that been done internally . It would not have come under public scrutiny. It creates unnecessary noise which we don’t need right now.

😂😂😂😂, it's more than 90% kill probability intercepted 100s of missiles simultaneously.. Here in a controlled environment with no jamming from enemies, with just one target flying slowly it couldn't hit the target. IAF is a joke.
