Is kissing the Blarney Stone just a bunch of blarney? Or, will it give us the gift of the gab? More importantly, is a day trip to Blarney Castle something that you should include on your trip to Ireland? Join us as we pay a visit to Blarney Castle to find out for ourselves!
There's more to spending a day at Blarney Castle and Gardens than standing in line and kissing a stone. Explore the castle with all of its features like the murder hole, medieval bathroom, and stumble stairs. Wander through the gardens and explore various Druid sites on the grounds. Our favorite spots included the wishing stairs, the portal, and the poisonous garden.

Thanks, Chris and Melissa! I watched a lot of your videos before I went to Ireland so when I got there you were both in my head! I never kissed the Blarney Stone, but I did climb to the top of the castle. It is at least 7 stories high!!! I am so glad I did it. Love you both! ♥️

Awesome! Kissing that stone is kind of scary. (and just so you know, I (Chris) still haven't developed the gift of gab 🤣)

A magical place! My mom dreamt of going there as a girl and did so with her sister after she retired….talked about the Blarney Stone and castle for years after. Mmmm…the gift of the gab promise…..🫤

I love the bits of historical info you guys give during your videos... like why the castle stairs were so narrow!

Lavatory - My Grandparents ( Mom's side) because of the large family then , believe it was 11 kids, they had a three-seat outhouse back near their barn on their farm

Great video. Another thing to know about the spiral straircases is that they inveriably went clockwise when ascending - this meant that (as most people are right handed) if the attacker was ascending they could not really swing a sword with their right hand whilst protecting them with the shiled across their body, and the descending defenders - standing closer to the inner side of the step, had more room to swing their swords at the attackers, @Glenda Cottle - this is also why the staircases were so narrow - you could really only attack in single file. You will also notice that a lot of windows are very narrow on the outside but with internal sill widens away from the outside - this allowed archers defefending the building to fire arrows in different angles, just alike a sniper but also while making it almost impossible for an attacker to sucessfuult shoort through such a narrow opening.

Ye missed the manison house belonging to the owner. It is open for tours in Jun/july/aug. Need to come back next year

We had friends visiting and we went back to Blarney... and saw the mansion from the outside... pretty impressive.

I guess technically Melissa is correct. Once there is one person waiting then the line is formed and every person after that makes the line longer.

great video! I'm wondering what the weather is like there right now. We are leaving Sunday for 3 weeks in north, south & west Ireland. Coming from Florida it's hard to imagine what to wear.

I definitely recommend layers! We've been enjoying quite a bit of sunshine so far, but when the wind picks up, or it becomes a bit overcast, it can cool down fast. I've started wearing my light winter jacket this week. It hasn't rained too much during our stay yet, but that may change soon. We'll be having an umbrella with us for most of our remaining outings just in case. If you like wearing dresses, I'd recommend wearing a dress with knit tights, sturdy booties (the sidewalks are often cobblestone and uneven), and a sweater. Ireland is stunning and everyone we've met is so kind. You'll love being here! -- Melissa
