OMG perfect timing just ordered this and could hardly find ANY videos on just the gloss! Thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much! I saw your other Shades EQ videos a few months ago x x x
I process my shades eq under very low heat for 10 minutes and let it cool down for 10 minutes after I dye my roots. My Gray is basically white now and it’s now mostly picking up reds in brown dyes. But using shades eq diluted with crystal clear & dedicated processing solution to tone that orange out. I get the exact shade & tone of brown I’m after every time!! And I think it’s the heat that makes this stay forever in my hair. I don’t have to tone it again until I’m doing my roots again. Love this stuff! It’s like magic!
Hi Noel, thanks for watching and your question. The only series in the range formulated to blend grey are the NB’s - try adding 50% 7NB into your mix…that’s what I use on my greys when I’m not blonde
@@NOELCATALANO86 No, I use Shades EQ to tone my hair AFTER I dye it. I’m not using it directly on my grays. I use this gloss to tone the orange/red hue out that sticks to my white hair from the permanent dye I’m using. It’s far more gentle than a traditional toner and it has longevity with the dye, I think because of the warmth I’m adding. But again, I can’t use this solely to try to cover my grays, it just doesn’t work for me. But it is the only “toner” I’ve used that actually stays as long as my permanent dye does, until I have to go over my roots again.
YAY! I think the share to take away here is that SEQG can give different results on everyone. I have clients where it really does “stain” the grey (at room temp) and others (as with me) where it blends and lasts for about 20 shampoo’s. It is a great product but as with all hair colour, results will vary and how it’s applied/processed makes a big difference. It’s great you’re getting such FAB results!
Processing Solution is 7 Vol. And contains Buffering Agents that keeps the pH of the mixture at the correct level to allow the color to penetrate without LIFTING the natural pigment. Your hair can be either Damp ( NOT Wet ) or Dry if your hair is Damp you get LESS Deposit and shorter longevity. Dry hair allows deepest deposit and longest lasting result. Using Clear 000 allows for MAXIMUM deposit and longevity while not going too dark when you need a Pastel or Sheer Color.
Hi there, thanks for watching. Heat is recommended in the US for blending grey…but not here in the U.K….and that’s right, NB’s for grey all the way! 👨🏻🙌🏻🤎
Wow!!! You've made my mind up, was just gathering my information on shades EQ, deciding on whether to buy it for our salon, great information Craig 👍 Off to place my order and will be back to you channel, thanks 😉
I am new to using the Redken Shades EQ and the other night, I used one and I am just loving these shades. No odor or burning, and they leave your hair so shiny and soft. Highly recommend them!
@@theworldofcraig I have a question though. I am highlighting my hair using a cap to pull the hair through. I have shorter hair, an undercut pixie and I am wondering what you recommend when you do the toner EQ shades. Wash out the hair with the cap on then apply the toner or take the cap off, wash out the har, dry it and then use the EQ toner? Using all over the hair, wouldn't that darken everything too much?
Very helpful and straight to the point the break down of each product use and when to use it helped clear up any other questions 🙌🏽👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 🎨 Thank you 👑
I'm looking at the manufacturer's directions right now, in the US, where it says Special Instructions for resistant gray it does state to use under a pre-heated warm dryer. Normal directions simply state to process for up tp 40 mins for gray hair. I really appreciate you advising us on how the use of heat makes it more permanent. VERY impt to know!
Hi Megan, thanks for watching. That’s right - the US and U.K./Europe have different guidelines for processing…they always have. Any demi colour (regardless of brand) that has heat applied will be deposited deeper within the hair, it’s due to there being the oxidative “energy” between the peroxide/dye/heat. You are most welcome, I’m glad I can help.
Hello Craig!!! I really enjoyed and love your information....wooow.!!! You're also obviously very inform and welknowledg and enthusiastic about this product.... as I am. I'm so going to follow you. Really enjoy your enthusiasm 🌹❤
Thanks for sharing this info! My stylist uses Shades EQ on me, and we are experimenting with formulas to get me back to pastel silver after I foolishly let it go so I could be darker again. Bad move. Anyway, because of my thyroid meds, my hair doesn’t hold color the same anymore, and I can’t use Matrix Disco Silver anymore. Shades EQ works the best, and she gets additional toner for me to use between touch ups since my hair is so porous and loses the tone easily. I try to do everything else I can to maintain the color (skip washing for 3-4 days, co-wash when I wear it natural, protect from heat when I do use heat, etc). The beautiful color is totally worth the maintenance, though.
I just commented 5 minutes ago on the first video I watched of yours and this video answered my question I asked. I'm glad because I was afraid I wouldn't get an answer. This video is amazing!! You are so full of great energy and so informative. Thank you!
Hi there, i'm a brunette and my stylist did an ash blonde balayage when i asked for ash brown haha! The toner she used faded out after 2-3 washes so I went to another stylist who put a permenant chocolate brown toner on top in jan, but its now mostly washed outt? I was going to use redken shades eq shade 5n all over my hair but i did a test strand and its quite dark...would this fade out lighter too as im hoping it will? Would appreciate the help :)
I wish you would give recommendations for shades that will enhance/enrichen dark brown shades for brunettes level 5 etc . Everything always seems to be oriented towards blondes.
There are many videos here on my channel that have deeper formulas in - check out the Shades EQ Gloss playlist….there are also many deeper formulas on my Instagram - craigsworldofhair. 0ver 70% of the colour we do as hairstylists is lighter, I love a brunette and have many deeper clients but the content I create is using models. Thanks for watching.
I love your videos! I use Redken Shades EQ at home and mix 4 shades. My hair is blonde and very short so I do not use a lot of the 1 ltr Gloss to Gel developer and not a lot of one of the colours. My friend in the States told me that there is a use-by date unopened and a very short one once it is open. Is this true? My friend and I both have a lot of Gloss to Gel and it is not sold in smaller quantities. Is this true World of Craig???
Hi Leah. Great question...but a BIG, open ended one. I would suggest something from the G series to start with. If you’re applying any of the deeper shades on a darker base, non of them will give a “bright” result. Start with a G so you get an idea of the warmth first.
2 questions... one, where do you find these products to purchase them? Two, can you use this product if you have hot roots? If so, what is your best recommendation in terms if application to make sure your roots match your already colored ends? For reference, my hair is a silvery blonde and my roots are very warm. Thank you so much!!!!!
Hi there. Probably best of you give it a Google as to where to find them in your country - distributors vary depending on where you are. You certainly can use SEQG on “hot roots” - just be aware that the product doesn’t lift at all, so you’ll be able the add tone/depth only.
@@theworldofcraig Does it really not lift at all? Lots of Demi permanents say they dont lift but I used the Guy Tang Demi perm on my hair and when the toner washed out I discovered to my horror it had lifted my natural level 6 to orange.
@@natmya243 In 25 years of using it I’ve never known it to lift, there isn’t enough “energy” in it. The only thing that could possibly make some demi’s lift is a higher developer or mixing them with peroxide, (not following guidelines) which I would never recommend.
@@theworldofcraig Thanks for your response. I didn't do it myself it was done in a salon using the guy tang processing solution which is 6 vol so technically weaker than Shades. Maybe my hair is just an anomaly lol it does have a strong red pigment, idk every hair dresser says it won't lift. The hairdresser swore guy tang demi wouldn't lift but it absolutely did. I'm gutted I want to use shades so much but I cannot stand ginger/orange tones in my hair.
Thank you…and thanks for watching. The NB series were formulated to “blend” grey - they won’t “cover” though - and how long they last for depends on many factors.
I’d like to know what are some of your favorite summer to fall brunette glosses? I have bright highlights, I wanted something soft and ashy. I tried 7p, 7 wg and 7n. But it’s still very bright, and yellow. Do you suggest going to 6? And stick with 7p or a v?
Hi there. Check out my Instagram there’s a weekly series, Formula Friday, with loads of options you might be into. It depends how “deep” you want to go to be honest - remember, the cooler the formula, the darker the result will appear. Have fun!
How do you avoid ruining the brightness of highlights or a high lift when you do a Shades EQ toner? Say you have a level 9 dry and processed hair and you use Shades EQ: one part 9V, one part 9P and one part Crystal Clear + 3 parts processing solution and it still takes away the brightness and turns the hair a bit ashy. How do you avoid that? Love your channel and Thank you from California!
Hello Craig! I have virgin long thick black hair and i am looking for a product to get really really shiny hair. Do you think i could use the redken eq crystal clear gloss to achieve the shine? And do i need the processing solution as wel?
Hiya! For sure, SEQG will make your long locks shiny - whether you’re using a shade with colour or Clear, the gloss is always mixed with Processing Solution - otherwise it won’t work.
Hi I’m hoping you can help me! I have shade 4 hair with about 10% scattering of greys. I was getting it dyed a chestnut brown with the ends slightly lighter due to a previous balayage but over lockdown I made the stupid decision of using henna on my hair 😱. I’m now trying to grow out my hair and embrace my grey. I’d like to tone down the orange in my hair to a neutral colour so the greys coming through don’t look horrible with the brown and orange. Could I use a redken eq shade in a NA to get a more ashy colour? I don’t want to shave my shoulder length hair off ! Please help?!
Hi there Sorry to hear you’ve not had the best time with your hair...there’s always a solution. It’s impossible for me to give you specific shade advice remotely but the NA series does “neutralise” warmth. It is quite a “pigmented” shade so you might want to think about adding a little of something from the N series. Good luck!
Thank you for such useful pointers! I’ve got the onyx shade. Do you think this will give a nice glossy black on its own, or should I also use a perm black dye in between glossing with Shades EQ. My natural hair colour is a soft black but I prefer the jet black glossy look.
Hiya...thanks for watching! And for your kind feedback. The deeper colours are quite pigmented so give it a try and see - the more you wash your hair/the more porous that is/what products your using etc will have an effect on how long it lasts. Let me know how you get on.
It sure can do…as with all hair care, there are other factors such as the pre existing condition of the hair. I have a video coming (very) soon on the Acidic Gloss line…
Good morning! I have a q about the kicker shades.. So I'm currently using moroccan sand 06N, was thinking of adding in a touch of the blue kicker for extra ashiness as I tend to pull a lot of orange undertones? Love the shades eq range! X
Hi there Thanks for watching. I probably would suggest you go in with a Kicker - perhaps add a little 8VB to your formula. It is if course impossible for me to be specific without you being in “the chair”. The pure blue could be a little too drab…
@@theworldofcraig yes that's a good point, I don't want it to appear dull and loose it's shine. I only did it yesterday and I'm really happy with the outcome (although initially concerned as it looked like 'Halloween blood' when mixing)... I tend to wash my hair only once a week so hopefully it will last a good while x
love Redkin Shades...just did a treatment w/ clear/cinnamon....I'm in Mexico and can buy it online....I love it but my scalp really needs an oil treatment. will an olive oil treatment strip some of my new lovely locks of color and/or gloss?
Hi Judy, thanks for watching. Shades EQ is a brilliant line for sure….and no, you’re safe to use an oil treatment. SEQG washes out with shampooing, the more you shampoo, the quicker it leaves the hair.
@@theworldofcraig Damn! I replied and it got lost! long reply...now: never mind... ..loving this product but I think this last time I didn't concentrate on my scalp when I washed it out...ichy ichy. that's one reason I applied olive oil to my roots.
Craig, I'd love to use EQ Shades on dry hair but always think I have to get rid of slight build up through smoothing/styling products first - so would you advise to wash and dry the hair first, if you used any kind of leave-in products before? Thank you🙏🏼
Great question, thank you. I’ve never found the need to shampoo (I’m generally applying SEQG to rough dried, just coloured hair) before application if not pre lightening - the only time I would suggest this is if the hair is extremely dirty or there’s lots of non water based wax/oil in there.
any idea why a 5n gloss would look like a 3 on my virgin brunette level 5/6 hair? thankfully it’s just a shadow root but i’m wonderining it will fade so i don’t have to strip my hair?
Hi there. There can be so many factors and it’s tricky for me to be specific without being there - that said, SEQG deposits colour in 2 ways. The pigment goes slightly into the hair, then some is left on the surface - this is how the depth/tone fades over (around - again it’s impossible to be specific) 20 washes. If your hair has no colour on it at all and you’ve only just done it, it should lighten after a few shampoos.
Hi there, thanks for watching. I think it’s 2 years once opened if stored with the lid on and away from heat - don’t quote me on that, I’m not employed by the brand…
Thank you for sharing this video. Can shades EQ gloss be used to change the color of virgin hair? Or does it have to be color treated first and then use the glass on top of that?
You are most welcome, I’m so glad you found it helpful…that’s made my day! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. There’s lots of top tips and free education on my Instagram. Good luck! 🙏🏻🙌🏻✨
Iam creamy light blonde I can’t go platinum or my long hair will fall out an go short again but my stylist messed up and basically I have a band that she let get platinum and now my hair has this band that grabs the toner more then everything else how can I fill it so that when I put on toner it works normally and dosnt stick more to that one band ? I love your videos ❤
Hi Shawna, thanks for watching and for the kindness. Hmmm, I’m afraid that’s a really tricky one, it’s hard to treat a lighter band without making all of the hair deeper/darker. If it’s near to the root you could root shadow it to blend it in…but that may well not be the look you’re going for.
@@theworldofcraig thanks I appreciate the response!❤️😊 any suggestions on something/ products I can just do a clear root to tip filler? To make the porosity equal all over ? Like could I do shades eq clear all over to make it equal porosity? Thanks so much for your time and knowledge ❤️ can’t tell you how helpful and amazing you are ! I’m so appreciative
No problem. K18 leave in mask evens out porosity and smooths the cuticle, whilst adding strength - there are videos about the line on here. Shades EQ isn’t a porosity leveller.
Hiya! It a great mix - although it’s impossible for me to be exact without seeing the “canvas” it’s going onto...it would be a v cool (as in not warm) result.
I have been going to aveda salons forever but now that im a woman, ahem, of a certain age, i feel like maybe i should look for a redken salon. i never felt the need for color before, but for the past 2 years my grey is noticeable enough to make me look a bit haggard up close. However, most all the women in my age well without procedures or surgeries and into silver gray hair, this is just such an awkward stage tho! It’s like a second puberty in reverse! It is a bizarre experience. Anyway, so I want something that can gently cover my greys while mu hair changes and then grows out… A specific concern i guess
I totally understand - I’m constantly told “you’d be really sexy with grey hair”…well, that’s their opinion but I colour my own hair for ME, to make me feel great. Shades EQ won’t cover grey hair - it can blend and might be good as a starting point but it won’t last on grey hair (it does on some textures but it can’t be counted on to cover)
I had a colorist that used blue kicker and some type of black possibly onyx and processing to create a blue black. Meaning my hair would look very black in normal lighting, but blue in the sunlight. He passed away. My new hair dresser does not know how to do it... can you tell me what he did so I can explain it to her. I tried to explain it to her but the effect wasn't the same... maybe he used a different ratio. She poured all the blue and onyx and processing together. I am not sure if he used entire bottles of it like she did... It just looked very black, but no blue effect in sunlight... I made her get the redken, but she normally uses other semi-permanent products that I'd never heard of... Can you help me go back to having great color with destroying my virgin hair because I have never used permanent hair dye and I don't want to...
Hi there. Sorry to hear that. So there is only one black in SEQG and that Onyx. I’m afraid I can’t help shed some light on the exact formula - the only thing I can suggest is finding a hairdresser that’s really familiar with the line and starting with one formula, making notes and going from there. I will add - the more Kicker in a formula, the faster (generally, there are SO many factors) it fades.
Tell me Craig would you still leave the toner on for the full 20 mins if you know that your client has very porous hair that can tend to grab. I have this problem sometimes and Have taken it off too soon and had to do it again. Love ❤️ your videos. Thank you 🙏
Hi Ricky As I mention in the video, I pretty much alway process for the full 20mins. For example - if the canvas is a level 10 and porous, I would probably formulate on (impossible to be exact) a level 12 - using level 9’s + 3 parts Clear...and process for the full 20. Obviously every “head” is different but that would generally be my go to. Thanks for the kind feedback and for watching.
Hi there. Clear is a “clear”, colourless gloss - not a Processing Solution - you mix it with other shades to make them more translucent…or use alone (mixed with Processing Solution in equal parts) for shine but no colour. Shades EQ must always be mixed 1:1 with Processing Solution for it to activate.
@@theworldofcraig Okay thank you so much! Also, thank you for the quick reply! Would you say the 08WG would look brown or would it just be a dark blonde? I'm worried it'll make my hair almost like a golden brunette.
@@frenchwillowNo worries, impossible for me to answer that remotely without seeing your hair. There are SEQG swatching videos here on my channel in the SEQG playlist, they will help.
Hi Craig! Have you tried the new 10NA with bonder inside? What do you think, if so? Also, what do you think about mixing 6nb with 6t to tone/neutralize some of the brassy orange tones in darker parts of the hair?
Hi there! I haven’t tried it yet - bet it’s brilliant on a level 10 canvas…would be very pretty. It’s so hard to comment on a particular formula when I don’t have an idea (pictures/ideally the head of hair in front of me) of what it’s going to be used on. I would generally use an N/VB/NA mix for “neutralising” orange…always formulate on the level you’ve lifted the hair to, remembering the result will appear darker.
Does anyone have any tips on shampooing this out? I love SEQG colors but I find that it sticks to the scalp and little baby hairs so much more than other toners, sometimes leaving a weird almost “film” on the hair. Does anyone else have this problem?
Hi there, thanks for watching. I’ve never (in 25 years of using SEQG) experienced that. You could add a little water at rinsing and emulsify the colour….that may make a difference…?
Hi there, tricky for me to give exact formula help without seeing your hair but I wouldn’t go that deep, those are both very pigmented. I would perhaps try 7T first…but even that is very pigmented, so go carefully.
Hiya! Great question! The NB series was formulated to “blend” out grey - it does depend on hair texture/porosity but I generally find it works well up to about 30%
Hi there. I’m afraid at that sort of level I wouldn’t try to “cancel” out the red - you won’t really get a result and the hair would simply look almost black
Redken shades eq mentions using heat in the directions right on the processing solution label…under instructions. Enjoyed your video .just wanted to point that out:-)
Hi Stacie. That would be in the US - the U.K. guidelines for all Redken hair colouring products is that they not used with heat. Of course you can totally use heat….but it will allow SEQG to travel further “into” the hair - meaning it could leave a demarcation line. Thanks for watching.
Hi there, thanks for watching. Afraid not, the Processing Solution is the “activator” and the Clear is a colour-less “shade”. You could get a lighter level tonal shade (of the “family” you’re using) and mix that in.
Hey Craig, I have been told that instead of clear, you could instead substitute processing solution (doubling up) to dilute the formulas. Any thoughts on this?
Hi there. I’m afraid that’s a “myth” - it would dilute the efficacy of the product and probably give unpredictable results. Clear in my opinion is a must have, there is no substitute.
Hi Craig, enjoyed your video. I have light golden blonde hair. My hair tends to pull yellow and orange. However I do not want my hair to be ashy color if all possible with my tones. I’d like to do it buttery blonde or pearl blonde. Would either work on my hair? I have dark roots as well. I’d like to bleach my roots and not to highlights. Would this be wise and what shades would you recommend? I was going to buy 9v, 9N, 9T and 9P. Mix and use all over. Is this good and last would I need to do a smudge root? Since my roots typically turn orange. If so what shades would I use so they aren’t dark. Sorry for all the questions. Thank you for any help.
Hi Christy, thanks for watching! Really appreciate you taking the time to reach out too. From what I can see of your tiny profile pic, you have GREAT hair - I’m afraid she it comes to lightening I’m an advocate of leaving it to the professional. More bad news….I can’t give specific formula advice, it’s just not possible without seeing you in person. What I will say is - SEQG runs COOL I’d stay away from T/P….they could end up grey. V/N/G/NB are all very pretty and reflective (V in small quantities!) Have fun!
@@theworldofcraig Thank you Craig for your quick response. My hair no longer looks like that in my tiny picture. It’s a hot mess right now with very Carmel like roots and golden blonde. I did last winter ash blonde and I did like it. I kinda of wanted to stay a little golden but just didn’t know if that was possible with the tones in my hair. I wouldn’t mind a pearl blonde. I’ve watched so many hair dressers on UA-cam and what formulas they have used to create beautiful colors on women who do have tones of orange or yellow. I appreciate your time in helping me and your advice.
Great video - thank you! I have a really weird question - when I mix my Shades EQ / Dev in the bowl the consistency / colour starts out like a browny gel; but part way through applying parts of the gel turn like a creamy colour and I have to keep mixing it to get rid of it. Is that normal? Also - before the toner, I rinse the shampoo out so so so well, but when I apply the toner, it feels almost like a shampoo feeling going on my hair. I hope this makes sense! PLEASE H E L P !!!
Hi Nicqui, thanks for watching. No hair question is ever weird in my book! Both of your points are perfectly normal with SEQG - the consistency does often shift a little during application…the feeling of shampoo in the hair is once again the base of the product and totally normal. Always best when applying to not emulsify the colour too much, as this can hinder the result.
@@theworldofcraig Thank you so so much for replying! I was starting to think I was going crazy! So good to know - thanks again. While I have you - any tips regarding Shades EQ toners for achieving white (like snow white) on my level 10 (inside banana peel yellow) lifted base - no ash reflect as such, and definitely no gold reflect. I only do my own hair now - so no Clients any more. x
@@NicquiMadden You’re welcome, happy to be able to help. I don’t generally give formulas out on here, as you know there are SO many contributing factors. That said, my “base” for that (as in what I tweak for each client…I never apply the same formula on 2 heads) is Clear/9V 2:1…sometimes 3:1. The biggest share is to always apply that to dry hair and leave it for 20 minutes…that what does it. There’s LOADS of formulas on my Instagram, which is linked everywhere on here in the description box.
Hi! Thanks for all the information! A small question please, could you use the toners...with a 3% developeur( from a different brand) ? You think is gonna work? Or is absolutely necessary to use his processing solution?
Hiya! Thanks for your kind feedback and for watching. SEQG is formulated (by genius scientists!) to ONLY be mixed with Processing Solution…I’m pretty sure I mention it in the video.
Hallo Craig.I just found your video...I am wondering... what would happen with my hair if I use this without any demi colour.Just like that without mixing notning.
Hi, i was wondering what if you use a darker shade of redken shades eq (level5) and you want to remove the color and go for a level 9 shade, what do you use to remove the color ? would malibu cpr help?
Hi there. I would use a process similar to what I do in this video - ua-cam.com/video/DDrU8Z1kw6E/v-deo.htmlsi=4NYoYsR3J_jDGy1T Impossibly for me to be specific without seeing your hair but that’s my preferred removal method
Hiya. I know this might sound boring but I wouldn’t advise it (and I don’t work for the brand) - it’s down to how the product “works”...the results could be unpredictable.
Hi there. I’m not sure what you mean, could you give me some more information…? Shades EQ Gloss is a demi permanent and is always mixed with Processing Solution at a 1:1 ratio.
@@theworldofcraig Thanks for respond! I use Shades EQ semi permanent on my grey roots and Shades EQ Demi on my ends. Like a Roxy Red or Bonfire for shine and conditioning . Do you use the same processing solution for both?✨💫✨
Hello Craig, I'm looking to just add shine to my dull hair. I recently went from level 9/10 back down to about a level 5. I loved trying out being a blonde and then I experimented with some beautiful vivid shades, however, my hair broke in a few places so I decided to just cut it short and bring the color back down to a shade closer to my natural ( 3/4) Can I use the Shades EQ gloss processing solution ALONE to add shine? or do I need to mix it with the Crystal Clear?
Hi there, thanks for watching. It sounds like you’ve had loads of fun changing hair colours, good for you! Shades EQ Processing Solution is the developer for either Crystal Clear or the other shades with tone - it wouldn’t do anything to your hair on its own…think of it as the activator. Have fun!
I would suggest mixing all you need…then mixing more. You may have noticed SEQG changes colour as it develops - for max effectiveness I wouldn’t leave it for longer than 20mins in the bowl.
@@theworldofcraig I appreciate you very much! You reply to everyone and this reply was timely! What about leftover color I’m the bottle not yet mixed? I know opened bottles go bad after a while but how long do you think that takes? That question is for opened bottles of color as well as opened processing solution. I have the processing solution and it’s been opened for about a year. I keep using it and it’s almost done but it’s good to know for next time I buy one from salon centric.
Well, that’s a very lovely thing to say and you’ve just MADE my day, thank you. You have 2 years once opened with both the colour and processing solution.
Hi Jonny, thanks for watching. So that used to be the official line from Redken a few years ago but I’m not sure now. Look at it this way - if you apply a SEGQ formula to damp hair and process for 5 minutes, you’re only going to get very minimal tonal value, which won’t last a long time. Of course the level of the hair/porous ity/formula play a part in that too
Hi there, thanks for watching. The NA series contains a lot of blue pigment, which is a cool tone - therefore it does run deep. There are lots of formulas on my Instagram, which is linked all over the place on here
@@theworldofcraig Hi Craig, for wirey gray hair, would you recommend using the Clear tone alone or with mixing solution? Would the peroxide in the mixing solution damage the porous grays I have? Almost fully grown out now, and likebthe colour but struggling with texture. Thanks
Hi Kate. I’m order for the product to work, you must always mix with Processing Solution…otherwise it’s a waste of time/product/money. The level of peroxide is so low that the “chemical reaction is very gentle.

Does it work on your gray at all if you don't use any heat? I tried leaving shades eq 6N on for 40 minutes and my grays stay completely white 😭
That’s right Jim! 👨🏻🙌🏻
Heat is recommended when blending gray. Along with NB equal to the percentage of gray
Hi there, thanks for watching. Heat is recommended in the US for blending grey…but not here in the U.K….and that’s right, NB’s for grey all the way! 👨🏻🙌🏻🤎

Wahoo!
@@ninjanails-x1f I would suggest the latter - SEQG won’t make any uncoloured hair that much darker

Thank you, that’s such lovely feedback...abs thanks for watching! 👨🏻🙏🏻💟
Hi Joanne!
Thanks for the kind words…and for watching.
You’re very welcome, thanks for watching!

Hi there, i'm a brunette and my stylist did an ash blonde balayage when i asked for ash brown haha! The toner she used faded out after 2-3 washes so I went to another stylist who put a permenant chocolate brown toner on top in jan, but its now mostly washed outt? I love your videos! I use Redken Shades EQ at home and mix 4 shades. My hair is blonde and very short so I do not use a lot of the 1 ltr Gloss to Gel developer and not a lot of one of the colours. My friend in the States told me that there is a use-by date unopened and a very short one once it is open. Is this true? My friend and I both have a lot of Gloss to Gel and it is not sold in smaller quantities. Is this true World of Craig???
Awww, that’s great!
The use by date on the line is 2 years once opened as far as I know.

What colour shade would you suggest for a dark brunette, who wants to give hair a little warmth?
Thank you! This was helpful. Do you have any tips for subtly covering white hair?
There’s an entire Shades EQ Gloss playlist here on my channel and you may also find the “toning” playlist helpful.
Thanks for watching.
Hi there
Sorry to hear you’ve not had the best time with your hair...there’s always a solution.
It’s impossible for me to give you specific shade advice remotely but the NA series does “neutralise” warmth. It is quite a “pigmented” shade so you might want to think about adding a little of something from the N series.
Good luck!
can you use the clear gloss without any processing solution?
No…they always need to be mixed 1:1 with Processing Solution.
Does using redken acidic gloss shampoo and conditioner lock in color for longer?
It sure can do…as with all hair care, there are other factors such as the pre existing condition of the hair.
I have a video coming (very) soon on the Acidic Gloss line…
Good morning! I have a q about the kicker shades.. So I'm currently using moroccan sand 06N, was thinking of adding in a touch of the blue kicker for extra ashiness as I tend to pull a lot of orange undertones? Love the shades eq range! X
Hi there
Thanks for watching.
I only did it yesterday and I'm really happy with the outcome (although initially concerned as it looked like 'Halloween blood' when mixing)... love Redkin Shades...just did a treatment w/ clear/cinnamon....I'm in Mexico and can buy it online....I love it but my scalp really needs an oil treatment. will an olive oil treatment strip some of my new lovely locks of color and/or gloss?
Hi Judy, thanks for watching. Shades EQ is a brilliant line for sure….and no, you’re safe to use an oil treatment. SEQG washes out with shampooing, the more you shampoo, the quicker it leaves the hair.
@@theworldofcraig Damn! I replied and it got lost! long reply...now: never mind...

@@theworldofcraig Thanks, Craig!
any idea why a 5n gloss would look like a 3 on my virgin brunette level 5/6 hair? thankfully it’s just a shadow root but i’m
wonderining it will fade so i don’t have to strip my hair?
What’s the shelf life on a bottle of EQ processing solution please?
Hi there, thanks for watching. I think it’s 2 years once opened if stored with the lid on and away from heat - don’t quote me on that, I’m not employed by the brand…
Thank you for sharing this video. Can shades EQ gloss be used to change the color of virgin hair? Or does it have to be color treated first and then use the glass on top of that?
Hi Kelly, thanks for watching. It can be used on virgin hair to deepen the colour of add warmth/cool down but it won’t lift hair.
Thank you!!

No problem. K18 leave in mask evens out porosity and smooths the cuticle, whilst adding strength - there are videos about the line on here. Shades EQ isn’t a porosity leveller.

Anyway, so I want something that can gently cover my greys while mu hair changes and then grows out…
A specific concern i guess
Hey..
A quick question if you wouldn't mind.
Whats the difference between eq colours 4nn and just 4n ?....
Thank you.
Hi there. To my knowledge there isn’t an NN series in SEGQ - in hair colour generally, a NN means a shade has “double” base.
Tell me
Craig would you still leave the toner on for the full 20 mins if you know that your client has very porous hair that can tend to grab. I have this problem sometimes and Have taken it off too soon and had to do it again. Love ❤️ your videos. Thank you 🙏
Hi Ricky
As I mention in the video, I pretty much alway process for the full 20mins.
Hi when using the clear processing.. do you need to use the regular processor when doing a gloss toner ?
Thanks Craig.😊
Hi Craig! I was wondering what is the difference between 06WG Mango and 08WG Golden Apricot? Thank you.
Hi there! The lower the number, the deeper the shade…they are both from the same tonal “family”. Thanks for watching.
@@theworldofcraig Okay thank you, I'll give them a watch. I have cool toned dark blonde hair.
@@theworldofcraig Thank you Craig!
Any time!
Can I use 1b and 4n on natural grey hair to make it more steely or take the white down to a bluish colour
Hi there, tricky for me to give exact formula help without seeing your hair but I wouldn’t go that deep, those are both very pigmented.
I would perhaps try 7T first…but even that is very pigmented, so go carefully.
Hi! ❤️ will shades eq gloss cover or help blend out grays?
Hiya! Great question! The NB series was formulated to “blend” out grey - it does depend on hair texture/porosity but I generally find it works well up to about 30%
Hey Craig.
Level 4 with a lot of red/orange showing through any suggestions on eq toner to knock some of the red/orange out ?
Thank you.
Hi there. I’m afraid at that sort of level I wouldn’t try to “cancel” out the red - you won’t really get a result and the hair would simply look almost black
@@theworldofcraig is there nothing that can be used to calm it down?
@@Fletch_18 Not really - SEQG doesn’t have a strong green series….which is what you’d need at that level.
@@theworldofcraig OK thank you.

Hi there. I don’t see any reason why it couldn’t be. If there’s a buildup of henna over time you might not see much result.

Can you use extra processing solution instead of clear to dilute? I cannot find clear anywhere.
So realistically if you were in a pinch and were out of processing solution you could use 7vol developer?
Hiya. I know this might sound boring but I wouldn’t advise it (and I don’t work for the brand) - it’s down to how the product “works”...the results could be unpredictable.
This is great very helping! Ty soo much
You’re most welcome, thanks for watching! 👨🏻🙏🏻✅
Hello Can one use Redken processing solution for Demi and semi permanent Shades EQ..
Do you use the same processing solution for both?✨💫✨
Hi Craig which EQ should I use for black hair 🤔 I always retouch my sis hair with 1n so which shade do you recommend to give her gloss?
Hi there. It depends how “deep” you want the ends to be - I would generally go in with 5N…just for shine. I wouldn’t expect the 1N fades much…?
@@theworldofcraig oh I see well my sis only uses 1n sooooo just a touch gloss only nothing too extravagant I just want to make her shine 😊
There you go then…all set!
Have fun!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
hi can we use Redken Chromatics Oil In Cream Developer with EQ toner?
I’m afraid not - you really do have to only use Processing Solution.
Can just toned my extensions and have a bit of extra toner I’d like to throw in my hair. Does it stop working after a certain time?
Hi there. Once SEQG is mixed it should be used immediately - afraid it won’t keep for later use.
@@theworldofcraig what’s the longest it can last? Can I use the rest an hour later if I had to?
Is it true every minute you let shades EQ process it’s one wash?
Hi Jonny, thanks for watching. So that used to be the official line from Redken a few years ago but I’m not sure now. Look at it this way - if you apply a SEGQ formula to damp hair and process for 5 minutes, you’re only going to get very minimal tonal value, which won’t last a long time. Of course the level of the hair/porous ity/formula play a part in that too
Enjoyble!!
Thank you 👨🏻🙏🏻
Hi! Do you have a Salon? I need to colour correct and tone. I would say I am a level 8/9 witn some strands of brass.
Hi there. I see clients in London W1 - best thing to do is follow the link to my Instagram and DM me on there. 👨🏻✨
How use crystal clear only
Hi there. You can use Crystal Clear as a gloss alone - just remember it must be mixed with Processing Solution before use
What do you think about 9na? It looks kinda dark
Hi there, thanks for watching. The NA series contains a lot of blue pigment, which is a cool tone - therefore it does run deep. There are lots of formulas on my Instagram, which is linked all over the place on here
@@theworldofcraig okay makes sense.
Hi can only one shade be used on all the hair?
You can definitely mix them together - or use different shades on different areas.
@@theworldofcraig thanks!
My hair is a Purple with Grey/Gray I just want the glossy Shine.
Hi there. There is a Clear in the line - that can be used alone, mixed with the Processing Solution to make the hair glossy, without adding colour.
@@theworldofcraig Thanks for letting me know, hoping it will calm some of the unruly strands. Are their other products you recommend for gray hair, I've been using Amisa purple shampoo which keeps the colour clean, but if there's any miracle hydrating/smoothing products you've come across I'd love to know!
@@breathingbeingyoga No worries. I’d definitely have a look at Olaplex No6 - the leave in smoothing treatment - it’s great on grey locks.
I don't even have my hair dyed and just ordered the processing solution and the clear gloss just for the gloss effect. I was sick of drugstore glosses not having any effect **cough** loreal **cough**
It is a fantastic line, you’ll love the results….Redken is owned my L’Oréal. *cough*
Thanks for watching.
Beth Minardi says DRY hair only
Go Beth. 90% of my applications are on dry and that’s Redken’s guidelines. 80% of hair peeps apply it to damp hair, it’s a time thing.
At the end of the day, if you and your clients are happy, do what you want.
Mmmkay. I understand.
And your sweater is adorable on you ❤
Thank you 👨🏻🙏🏻
? is this still coloring your hair?
Hi Deborah. I’m not entirely sure what you mean…? It is a hair colouring product yes…
@@theworldofcraig Thank you so much for responding I am going cold turkey for a gray transition, and after 45 years of dying dark my hair has been though the ringer, so just want to let it go, and perhaps soften the skunk line with a non dye product it is going to end up a very orange line at some point and I just want to be prepared being I tossed out my dyes and powder and what not. ;) Hugs from sunny Ca whew it is in the 80's unreal it is February
A pleasure! Good luck with the grow out and thanks for watching. 👨🏼🙏🏻💟
