Great video Craig! I’m trying to learn all about toning online so I can fix my slightly brassy hair at home. Would it be alright to mix Shades EQ with conditioner to dilute for a more subtle toning effect? Or perhaps toning on a higher level or two (scandalous I know 😅)? You said that green/blue pigments are quite strong on their own so I’m hesitant to use the gloss by itself because I don’t want to go that much darker than my current shade (about 4-5)
Thank you….and thanks for watching. No, please don’t mix SEQG with anything other than what the guideline suggest. There’s an entire playlist here on my channel, that will tell you how to “sheer” out the result. There’s also a toning playlist that has a lot of answers… 👨🏼🙏🏻✨
May i ask you something? I can mix Redken eq Lavender ICE with Redken EQ tahitian sand.. First I wanted use Delicate Natural, but Tahitian Sand is so pretty 😍
Hi Craig! Loved this video a lot! I have a question for you. As you can see in my picture profile when I bleach my hair I always get a brassy/yellow colour. I bought and tried seq 09n+09v equal parts +processing solution on a chunk of my hair before using it all over, but it didn't really changed the color so much! I used to get it done at the salon on wet hair and seemd to work. Now I used it on dry hair to make it more clear and the result seems not enough visible. Now I'm thinking of adding a bit of seq 09b for the brassy color to the mix I mentioned before... Do you think it will work better? Thank you if you will have the time to answer me!
Good question - P is a mixture of Violet/Beige/Blue....think of the iridescent coating on a pearl. It’s a cooler, more powerful version on 9V...gives a darker greyish result on a clean level 10. If you check out my Insta and look for a formula post of Platinum Suede, I use it there.
Want to try these. Do you have to use the gloss developer or can you use a shades EQ gel developer. i never know if you always have to use the same company and/ or same line. Thank you.
Hi Tracy. You’ll love the results. It’s advisable to always use Redken Processing Solution with Shades EQ Gloss as it isn’t just a peroxide based product. Recently they have launched a developer that turns the Gloss into a slightly thicker consistency, it’s great but not essential. Check out my Insta for loads more formulas...it’s linked in the comments.
This is probably another super dumb question from me, but if you use a level 8 toner on a 9 or a 10 (let’s say I lifted pretty well but not totally even), will it make the entire head that new level of the level of the toner I use (if I uniformly put it all over)?
My hair came out extremely healthy, given the fact that at the salon it would have been a color correction session (LONG 6” natural level 7 salt pepper hair with blorangey grown out length). I did the best I could to stay away from the roots for as long as I could, and with 2 sessions of Féria intense platinum box, which promises up to 9 levels of lift. I have zero breakage, hair is not rough or porous looking, some parts lifted to almost completely clear translucent white, and then I have some yellowish streaks, no banding at all, and some orangey-ish in the length at the back. Should I spot bleach the third time? Or try toning? I definitely would pull grey if I just slapped T18, and I don’t want that. Ideally, I want pornstar paper white hair lol, but we can all dream, can’t we?! I would also love to try a coveted soft gentle sandy beige cream blonde, but also not darker than level 9. Not opposed to doing a slight soft root color so it grows out a little softer looking. Can I pay you for a consultation via FaceTime? Would you be open to it? Please email me at supernovaviolins@gmail.com with subject all caps re:world of Craig Thank you so much! Olia
No question is ever “dumb” here in my “world”. That’s right, I call it toning below the level. If you have a lighter canvas and tone on a deeper level, then the result will be deeper/darker.
It sounds to me like the deeper parts need to be re-lifted - although I can’t make a call remotely. I think perhaps you need to decide on a firm final result, then have a good look through my toning playlist….theres all you need in there to help you decide. I’m afraid I don’t offer remote consults, they just don’t work, it’s way too nuanced to formulate from a video call.
@@theworldofcraigthank you so much and I TOTALLY understand and appreciate your help and support, and of course I understand that you can’t take that responsibility of advising someone who you don’t know if they are able to do what you would suggest something remotely correctly! I will absolutely go through the videos- do you have any suggestions for those specific results I “”would want” to achieve? I see a lot of videos of ice blondes, but what I’m looking for is something different altogether and I can’t find it. I’ll try to find a picture of what that unicorn is, but if that’s not possible, then my next attempt would be a sandy creamy beige level 9 all one color either way.
You’re welcome. It’s not really about that…it’s more that we all see colour differently and what you think is one thing, won’t be what I think and then there’s your entire hair history, which with my “reply to everyone” policy, there just isn’t time for. If you want truly white hair, there’s no secret, it’s simple - the canvas MUST be an even level 10, at least - and then you want a very dilute violet toner. EG - Clear + 9V 4:1. That’s all.
Hi Jane. I’m afraid I can’t answer your question - I know how the pigments work in the product but not the full ingredients. You could contact Redken for a full ingredients list. They certainly DONT build up on the hair - I often layer Shades EQ over each other and the hair never feels “tacky” or heavy.
hello. what mix should i use on bleached hair to a level 9-10 with yellow tones and want to have same level neutral blond. Can be leaning to cool but cant be to cool. To cool hair looks "dirty" on me but i cannot stand any warmth either. So i thought maybe neutral is my best try... Greets.
I bleached my hair from a level 5 all the way up to a level 9. I’m going for an even color all over but don’t want to look platinum blonde. What shades do you recommend? Also how do I go about retouching my roots? Since there is a big contrast between my natural hair and the blonde. I’d really appreciate your help, thanks
Hi Nat. I would probably start off with 9N on its own all over. That said, you can find LOADS of formulas on my insta - CraigsWorldofHair. The biggest tip I can give you about your roots is that it’s WAY better to do them within a 5 week timeframe...the further they get from the heat of your head, the harder it will be to keep the bleach even. Have fun!

Hi! Thank you for the great video! what would you recommend for a bleached brassy ombre hair ( level 8 at the bottom and level 5 at the top) to get an ashy blonde at the bottom and an ashy brown at the top?
It’s so hard to say without actually seeing you hair in person. Redken have a directory of salons on their website, that’s probably the best way to get a good result. Failing that I would go for a global application of 8N - that will blend everything together without going to much darker and cancel out some warmth.
Pardis Tavalla I can attest to this. I’m a level 4 w/silver & heavy blonde highlights I used Chromatics 8N (there There’s many formulas to choose I got for the one that helps with gray coverage) on regrowth with 20 vol. it took it down 4 levels!!. Roots are a level 8 blending with the existing high/low lights For a more blended look. It was first time converting from my go-to, Kuene L6 to Redken 8N & was so happy to get this level & shade without bleach & extra damage!
I’m so glad I found you! I’m new to redken and as they’ve started selling it in Sally’s in the uk, I’m desperate to gain knowledge of their products. K B Hi there. I wouldn’t mix cream and gloss together as the formulations are different. The new developer for precision application will make your gloss formulas thicker, more gel like.
I never realised that the shades come in packs of 3! 😯 Salon Services never mentioned this on their site - before this video I thought it was basically £10 for 60ml! I thought that was a bit steep but thank god I saw your video! 🙂
Can you do a balayage with these shades eq toners? I accidentally put a Wella toner on my hair with a 20V developer to brighten up my blonde highlights (🤦🏼♀️ whoops) and it turned my roots a slight orange. Would doing a balayage with my natural root color (redkin shades eq 6n+7n) counteract or coverup the slight warm orange?
I’m looking for a result color similar to the picture you show at 14:19. That’s what my hair usually looks similar to before I pulled the orange from my base with the 20V developer.
The World Of Craig thanks for the reply 😃 I have the redkin products (SEQ6n, 7n, 9p, 9n, developer, and clear) and unfortunately don’t have the funds right now to see a professional, trust me I’d love to lol So I’m going to try to blend my roots with the 6/7 and then tone the mid to ends with the 9’s. Wish me luck.
u are a professional so how come on your instagram you give the formulas and not the level and tone of virgin/prelightened hair that u were working with? How can i know if im able to get similar results if i dont know what was the hair u were working on?
As I’m sure you can appreciate it’s rather time consuming creating the copy for my posts and running a full book of clients/doing freelance session work and education....there just isn’t time to add every detail to every post. Some of them do contain the level I have pre-lightened the hair too. Generally I would lift blondes beyond a level 9, then being them back done a little. As the is the U.K. most of the bases I work on are generally 5/6...rarely darker than this - although if darker it’s clear on the post on my IG. Hope that’s helpful.
I am in a redken salon. My experience is with joico, kenra and matrix. Out of the 4 lines, redken is the worst. I'm struggling so much with how the color tones and deposits (eq creams). I feel that the shades are not true to tone. When I tone, I tone on wet hair (in the shampoo bowl). What do you suggest. I'm struggling to get the color I aim for for my clients. Bottom line I feel the colors don't take to hair well AT ALL
Hi there. Sorry to hear your not loving Redken...we all have our personal favourites I guess. I’ve used the other lines you mention and Redken is my fave by far. The first advice I would give would be to tone on dry hair...you’ll get a way better deposit of tone and it will last longer. I could go on for EVER with tips on here - the best thing to do is check out my Insta, it’s full of SEQ and Redken info/formulas etc.

Shes EQ 5V has been changed--I had used the old 5V Grape Sorbet which had a brown background which I didn't know--the brown is lasting forever--why? the new 5V Cosmic Violet doesn't. I can't find the chart that has the old color on it--Why is this brown lasting so long and how do I get back to my gray hair--??
The World Of Craig afte watching this again I think the 9 nb and clear are to be ordered ! Excited to try as I have only used wella Demi ash 10n before, but didn’t notice much shine. Also going to do the zoning, because my light face framing blonde goes grey too easily
Hiya It’s really hard without seeing your hair in detail to be able to recommend a formula, sorry. What I will say is that the opposite of orange warmth is blue - but be careful, “cooler” colours can give a deeper/darker result.
The World Of Craig ty for replying ! I have limited options to Purchase from Canada 🇨🇦. I don’t quite understand the names. I was planning on doing a gloss rinse. If you having any links on the redken gloss wheel. I would appreciate it.
Lynn Smith As I mentioned, it’s impossible to help without seeing your hair and even then it’s so hard to give advice in a message...sorry, I can’t help more.
You might be better of with a product specifically for facial hair - Shades EQ might be a little liquid to make it easy to use. Whatever you use make sure you skin test him first.
I would love a video like this describing the red tones. I am mixing 8c (cayenne )and experimenting with 8wg (apricot) vs papaya and or a darker die red. Any info and expertise on formula results for strawberry through deep copper would be greatly appreciated! ♥️
Hi Craig, Hope you're well!? I've lightened my level 4 base with Blondeme and their 30 Develper, to add some highlights, I've been using Olaplex 3 and 4 for a few days and now I want to tone, the lightened pieces are at an orangey level 6 atm, I've got 2 eq level 6 Toners .. (1) 06Abn - Brown Smoke. (2) 06n - Moroccan Sand. Which one do you suggest? I don't want to darken the lighter pieces out too much, I've heard the 06Abn (Brown Smoke) can darkem it up a little too much. Aany advice would be really appreciated 😊 Thank you.
Hi there. Great thanks…hope all is well with you. First up, well done! Unless you tone on the SAME level you’ve lifted to, you won’t “cool” the highlights down. I’d probably go in the 6N first - it has soft blue/violet in there, so it’ll neutralise a little - the AB’s are very powerful and you may end up “muddy” - a mix of both could be good….remember - it’s going to look quite a lot darker, inevitable when you want to get rid of that much warmth at that level.
@@theworldofcraig OK thank you, so if I want to eventually have a datk blonde/ Light brown ends does that mean I'd need to lift to a yellow tone and then use for example an 08n ... eventually I want the light brown/dark blonde ends as my hair is shoulder length. Thank you.
@@theworldofcraig OK, well I'll tone with the moroccosand leave it a month do a few olaplex treatments then I'll lighten it up to a level 8. I do t want to wreck my hair it's taken two years to grow so I'll just go slowly Thanks again. 😊
Hi! Thanks! This is the best I’ve found on UA-cam so far… !! I’m not a stylist but I just toned my own hair with the 10VV. I loved the consistency and easily applied with a bottle to roots & Rubbed in with gloves, brushed thru. My hair is thick so there was ~5 mins spent on application & 7-10 mins of wait before rinse. Next time I’ll wait 20 😊. I was scared it looked dark. My root regrowth, which I previously lightened from salt/pepper level 4 to a level 8, (using Redken chromatics w/L20 Dev. no bleach) are more orangey after the 10vv. (Then 2 weeks ago & they pulled minimal orange So think the toner intensified it). I have a shades eq 9B on hand. Do you think if I tap the roots with that it would help mellow out the orange? Next time I’ll skip the roots. It’s not a bad copper color, I’m just picky about my hair. I’m going to order more products, including clear, and a 9 or 10 N?? to mix w/the 10vv next time? I’ll keep practising. This is in between appointments where I get it lightened by my stylist. DIY maintenance to save time & money. If anyone’s learning & nervous to try, I Encourage you to go for it!! Its so forgiving. I bought supplies on sleek hair.com. They’re not paying me. This was the most pleasant outcome I could’ve expected doing it myself. Highlights are icy & shiny, lowlights throughout (not including roots) are less brassy. Overall it looks bright, pretty & salon fresh!! Thanks again for the video, Sir!
Mimi Ramone Hi Mimi! So glad you’re getting great results from SEQG. So, while the 9B you have is good at cancelling out orange/copper tones I’m afraid it’s impossible for me to say wether it’s right for you without having you “in front of me”. What I will say is it’s a powerful tone - so if you do go in with it, be careful. Enjoy!
Hi Craig! My hair is mostly gray these days but I color my hair with Shades EQ because it washes out in about 8 weeks. I use O6N but it has a slite yellow orange-ish tint . Can I mix it with another toner to cancel that out? I was going to mix with O9V to get a more natural look . will that work? if yes how much should i use?

The World Of Craig thanks for the reply 😃 I have the redkin products (SEQ6n, 7n, 9p, 9n, developer, and clear) and unfortunately don’t have the funds right now to see a professional, trust me I’d love to lol So I’m going to try to blend my roots with the 6/7 and then tone the mid to ends with the 9’s. Wish me luck.
Laura Montero Stick with the 7, with a tiny splash of 9P....
The World Of Craig thank you Craig!! ♥️
Any advice for the brunettes as far as which shade to use?
U r just amazing and clear thx for information good luck
What would you use for the icy blonde without being to grey? I always struggle with that. Thank you so much. Love from Belgium
Check out my Instagram - craigsworldofhair there are SO many formulas on there. My IGTV has Formula videos too...
The World Of Craig thanks a lot!
The World Of Craig You are going to make me get an Instagram account… LOL I don’t have one yet!!! .
u are a professional so how come on your instagram you give the formulas and not the level and tone of virgin/prelightened hair that u were working with?
I can't find the chart that has the old color on it--Why is this brown lasting so long and how do I get back to my gray hair--??
pozdro dla Mateusza :)
I get shades EQ once a month ❤️
Hi, will the developer + gloss (01-03 shades) cover grays?
Hi there
Shades EQ NB series is designed to blend greys up to 50% but the product is not designed to cover.
@@theworldofcraig Thanks!
grrrrate
Hi, Level 5 )how much level of lifting for mannequin hair to do peach colour?
Plz advise me by lift product and shed q formula clearly plz. Thanks!
For any pastel to be “true to tone” you need to lift to a level 10. I would use Flashlift.
Then Pastel Peach Shades EQ.
Well done Craig. Amazing way to give a lecture. 😊
Thank you.
Ty 👍👍👍
What do you think of 9n p opal? I just bought two bottles but am scared to use it now.
I think you mean 9P - it’s one of my favourite shades for platinum blondes. Best mixed with other series - V/N/T.
The World Of Craig thank you! I think I better order some neutral, as last time I toned with an ash it turned grey yikes!
The World Of Craig afte watching this again I think the 9 nb and clear are to be ordered ! Excited to try as I have only used wella Demi ash 10n before, but didn’t notice much shine. Also going to do the zoning, because my light face framing blonde goes grey too easily
Hi I’m a brunette with highlights that are a little too 🍊 orange. What gloss would you recommend?
Hiya
It’s really hard without seeing your hair in detail to be able to recommend a formula, sorry.
The World Of Craig ty anyways I really appreciate the info!
Subscribed with no doubt !
Awww, thank you!
The World Of Craig you welcome , I’m loving your Chanel , you so smart .
please more shades e Q videos
great information
Thank you 👨🏻🙏🏻✨
Can you use shades eq on men’s beards?
You might be better of with a product specifically for facial hair - Shades EQ might be a little liquid to make it easy to use. Whatever you use make sure you skin test him first.
Hi is it possible to buy redken colour as freelance hairdresser ? As I can’t seem to find it online or at any whole sales ?
Hiya. In the U.K. Redken is only available to account holders/salon owners....
I would love a video like this describing the red tones. I am mixing 8c (cayenne )and experimenting with 8wg (apricot) vs papaya and or a darker die red. Any info and expertise on formula results for strawberry through deep copper would be greatly appreciated! ♥️
Check out my Insta...it’s FULL of formulas and top tips...

Have you found grey coverage/blending satisfactory ?
It really depends person to person how well Shades EQ Gloss blends grey
Trying to find you on instagram, can you post a link?
Hi Michelle. It’s linked in the description box under the video.
Hi Craig,
Hope you're well!?
I've lightened my level 4 base with Blondeme and their 30 Develper, to add some highlights, I've been using Olaplex 3 and 4 for a few days and now I want to tone, the lightened pieces are at an orangey level 6 atm, I've got 2 eq level 6 Toners ..
(1) 06Abn - Brown Smoke.
(2) 06n - Moroccan Sand.
Which one do you suggest? I don't want to darken the lighter pieces out too much, I've heard the 06Abn (Brown Smoke) can darkem it up a little too much.
Aany advice would be really appreciated 😊
Thank you.
@@theworldofcraig
OK thank you, so if I want to eventually have a datk blonde/ Light brown ends does that mean I'd need to lift to a yellow tone and then use for example an 08n ... eventually I want the light brown/dark blonde ends as my hair is shoulder length.
Thank you.
Exactly…the lighter the better - the lighter the canvas, the more options you have. I’m afraid anything below an 8 is limited.
@@theworldofcraig OK, well I'll tone with the moroccosand leave it a month do a few olaplex treatments then I'll lighten it up to a level 8.
I do t want to wreck my hair it's taken two years to grow so I'll just go slowly
Thanks again. 😊
Love a plan! 🙌🏻
Hi! (Then 2 weeks ago & they pulled minimal orange
So think the toner intensified it). I have a shades eq 9B on hand. Do you think if I tap the roots with that it would help mellow out the orange? Next time I’ll skip the roots. It’s not a bad copper color,
I’m just picky about my hair.
Enjoy!
The World Of Craig thank you for the reply! You have said enough. I will not try the B!
Hiya!
That’s the “tan” background of the N’s...yes, a little 9V would be great!
@@theworldofcraig What do you think about the color 6GB how would that work for gray hair?
I’m afraid I can only give general advice on socials...so many factors to bear in mind...
Feel free to go more in-depth!! 🤍💗🖤
