I’d like to do a root smudge, plus tone fresh and old blonde highlights. What order should I do that? Can I tone over the root shadow with a lighter toner for the lengths? Is it damaging to tone the same hair twice in a short period? Also can you talk about blending two toners using a darker one for the roots and lighter one for the ends? What can you do if a toner turns out too dark? Thanks!
Hello there. I have a question. So I have shades E Q gloss processing solution. And shades EQ conditioning 09P. One of my stylist friends used it on my hair a while ago but I don't remember how she mixed it up. Could you possibly help me understand how I should mix it? What value I should use? And what I should expect after useing it? I would greatly appreciate it. 🙏
Sorry, can I also ask - Do we shampoo and condition hair first then add the redken shades eq? When rinsing redken shades eq, do we need to condition or shampoo the hair again? thanks in advance

Whats the best eq colour to use on your dort of colour in this video. Say 10 with bleach highlights, want it to be more ashy or cool blonde ? Many thanks
Thanks. I was looking to tone down my old permanent hair color. But I have about 2” of new growth with my less than 25% grey coming in. It’s a little stark my brown ashy root to the orange-red ends. But my hair is long. The shades EQ gives me hope I won’t totally ruin my new hair but can tone down some of the orange. I was looking at trying 06abn brown smoke. Have you ever tried this color to help tone down brunette hair? Thanks.
Thank you for this video and answering color questions! My question is; I am wanting to cover my gray which I have been letting grow out for 10 months. (was going to go the all natural route but I don't like it!) It is fine but not baby fine hair. So there is about 5 inches of salt and pepper, with probably 75% white at temples and sides, with 25-50% white on top. The bottom 2/3rds of my hair is old color, which is a med- dark brassy brown. I was hoping to try demi permanent instead of permanent color this time around, permanent (Color Fusion) is what I had been doing before I stopped coloring for 10 months. Here's what I'm hoping will work: to try 5n Shades EQ on my uncolored root portion, and blending that into the old color bottom part with 7nb Shades EQ. Do you think this will work? How long do you think I should process my virgin hair? My gray isn't usually very resistant I think, but I used to process my roots with permanent dye for about 45 minutes.
Hi! Shades EQ won’t “cover your gray” it’s just going to blend it. I definitely would do it under heat for 35 minutes with a processing cap. Also, i have heard that the NB series is going to blend grays the best. I would just give it a try. I definitely think it will help. But it’s not going to completely cover
If a person is doing roots with 5NN permanent (20 volume) what eq shade would you use 5N? to match for the rest of the hair? And would you use 10 volume or eq gloss with it as well?

I have a cool brown hair underneath which is my natural and starting to go gray on top with my natural in between. I live in a Canada and its hard to get a salon appointment so I'm thinking of doing my own toner. My blond highlights are growing out but still have a way to go as my hair is long. I was thinking 9V, 9P OR 9NB would this be a good choice for me or can you recommend a color? Thanks
Hi...nice job explaining... Im a licensed cosmetologist but do not work in salon any longer. I still do my own hair and my daughter's hair and not being in a salon environment every day certainly makes keeping up with trends and products quite the challenge. Additionally, since my license is expired, it makes getting Redken at a legitimate supply house impossible. So here is my question.....I recently toned my daughter's hair with a Sally's brand comparable (allegedly) to Shades and it turned out way darker than what we wanted. It is still a beautiful level 7 with some dimension but truthfully, its not what I was going for. Perhaps if I had mixed some clear gloss with the 9N, it wouldn't have deposited as much color. I believe I used 1 part 9N, 1 part 10N and a 15V developer. Your thoughts? Im considering checking into ordering Redken shades online if you know of a source, also that would be helpful.
Hi, i naturally have darker ash brown hair, i got a balayage, so my hair is blonde now at the ends and brown at the roots. I have a naturally very cool haircolor. I got a Redken EQ at my hairdresser, she made my hair a Little darker so it better blends & the Color is light grey, do you know With Color of EQ do i need to do it by myself ?
I want to tone my own hair! The roots always show that warm-orange reflect that I hate... I think I’m going to use the 9nb irish creme. What do you think?
So this wouldn’t be great for overall hair dye? I’ve been looking to dye my hair black ofc not using black box dye but professional color. I’ve been steered away from using permanent color by people so Demi permanent seems the way to go but I’m confused on whether this would be suited for all over color?
I have the processing solution, but don’t have the Shades Eq color. Could I sub the processing solution for 10vol developer for black hair? I’d be mixing it with Ions permanent Jet Black color.
I loved your video! I had a question - I purchased 09V, 09T, and 09AA with a 20 vol. developer and was wondering if that would work to tone a level 8-9 without making it too dark? Would I have to use a different volume developer to make sure the toners don't deposit as much?
I would love a video with your favorite formulas and pictures! Thanks for a great video. I’m so lost on toners completely 😅
Totally understand! I’ll try to do this soon :)

Thanks for the video! You have mentioned a 07 plus a 9b for neutralize the warm, so my warm brunette, may I use sterling 9 b plus chestnut long and Walnut or marroccand sand plus sterling for the roots? Approximately I mean... Thanks from Milan :)
I don’t use the 9b!
@@ReileyCollier why not?🤔
(I’m curious) 👍🏻😊
I’ve never needed to!
@@ReileyCollier Right ON Thank You!
Sorry to bug you 😂For a level 10 yellow, (trying For the least ash) will a 9/10VG or 9 VRo knock out the yellow?
I haven’t bought any yet, or stick to 9V,
Since it’s a staple 🤔…
The 9 VRo is so pretty ⭐️.
She’s got a Bixi cut , wants edgy bright , iridescent, golden-ish look.
How’s this combination sound?
9/10VG or 9 VRo
9N
9P
9 GG
😑😂 Sorry 🙏🏻 Thanks so much.
Please make a short video how to use it
I am allergic to developer. Therefore, i only use a permanent on my hair every 3-6 months. Can i use a toner to cover up my greys, in between color?
Hi jessi, I love your work !!
What will be a good caramel tone in the shadesEQ for balayage ?
Depends on the level you want.. but i like 6N 6NB or 8N 8GI.. but like i said it really depends on what the hair has been lifted to.
Hi. Can i also put keratin in redken shades eq formulation?
I have a cool brown hair underneath which is my natural and starting to go gray on top with my natural in between. I live in a Canada and its hard to get a salon appointment so I'm thinking of doing my own toner. My blond highlights are growing out but still have a way to go as my hair is long. I was thinking 9V, 9P OR 9NB would this be a good choice for me or can you recommend a color? Thanks
A toner will only shift the color of your blonde! 9V 9P and 9NB will make your blonde ashy!
Hmm i don’t know where to get it other than Cosmo prof! Maybe try to wash it with dawn dish soap to help strip some of it out!
Sleek shop online carries Shades EQ. It’s pricey. Wish I still had a current license and could buy local!
9NB is a warm shade.
9N 9GI. Add a touch of 7N. 7NA are tones for warm roots.
So this wouldn’t be great for overall hair dye? I’ve been looking to dye my hair black ofc not using black box dye but professional color. I’ve been steered away from using permanent color by people so Demi permanent seems the way to go but I’m confused on whether this would be suited for all over color?
It would be! It’s a Demi hair color. Shades is just translucent so it will fade!
Hi just found your channel
I love you're color
What is it ?
Ty
Thanks for this information
I use a level 6. My hair grabbed red. I want to neutralize it. Any suggestions?
Can you use this stuff on alreadynaturuak blonde hair that Is just brassy in general?
do i have to use the gloss if im just toning my hair or is the shade eq itself, the processor enough?
I have the processing solution, but don’t have the Shades Eq color. Could I sub the processing solution for 10vol developer for black hair? I’d be mixing it with Ions permanent Jet Black color.
No, that will lift the hair.
Hola haz tu video traducido para que llegue a mas gente, por favor
Your the bomb sis !!! Thank you 💜💜💜
So welcome!
Hey girly so I’m currently a cosmetology student & I want to expand my knowledge with Redkin, do you have any recommendations?
Hello, what color would I get mixing Redken shades EQ 09N with shades EQ 7M?
Very natural brown !
Where can I buy redken merchandise lines and capes, bowls, brushes for root smudges etc?
Salon centric with a cosmetology license!
Can you tell me what formulation is on your hair in this video? Your blonde is perfect and exactly what I want.
I honestly don’t know. My hair is naturally warm so i embrace it :)
Great teaching thank you 😊
I live in Hawaii and no one in my area carries Redken shades eq. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can order it that ships to Hawaii?
Salon centric!
can i use redken shades eq gloss without the processing solution?
No!
Hello, I loved your videos 👍
I loved your video! I had a question - I purchased 09V, 09T, and 09AA with a 20 vol. developer and was wondering if that would work to tone a level 8-9 without making it too dark? Would I have to use a different volume developer to make sure the toners don't deposit as much?
Is it shades EQ?
Shades EQ i always use their processing solution. I don’t suggest using 20 volume to tone. It will lift the natural level of your hair
What is T ans AA?
This was very informative. Thank you so much.
Hi what can we substitute the processing solution with?
I wouldn’t substitute it with anything personally! If you have to maybe 6vol
Can I use 10 vol, to do a low light?
Never mind! 😀
What do you do if the 8vb toner is to dark? How do you remove the toner?
Clarifying shampoo or Malibu cpr
Fresh lemon 🍋 juice
Thank you lots
