Thank you for this video. I have been bleaching and coloring my hair myself for about a year now and your video was super easy to follow and helped me decide on the Redkin EQ shades/toners. I have found my new happy place :) Once you get over your fears of bleach and color, it's not so hard. The Redkin products, by far, are the best on the market. I finally got rid of the red/yellow because of this video. Thank you for helping those of us that simply can't afford the salon anymore. Of course, it would be my preferred choice but current circumstances are what they are. Much appreciated.
Deanna where do you purchase your product? I am always concerned about buying fake product. I am in the same situation and really love doing my own hair as well.
As a junior stylist this is one of my holy grail toners. I am so comfortable with it and it is pretty predictable. Thank you so much for the video it was soo informative & I learned stuff I didnt even know! Thank you so much!!!!
Kerry N you’re so welcome! I’m opening my own salon in 2 weeks so I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much! As soon as I open I’ll be posting much more regularly! Let me know if there’s anything specific you would like to learn ❤️
Just subscribed. I am not a stylist. Came across your video because I was looking for tutorials about toners using Shades EQ. Your video is the MOST informative and so easy to understand ( for us non-stylists). Would love to see tutorials on toners with Shades EQ. I am a level 4 with highlights all over ,which get brassy real quick . I would love to see a tutorial to tone brassy hair and get the warmth out.
Danielle, I just subscribed and GIRL YOU ARE AMAZING! Like Parul Sheth-Rana, my hair pulls red (I'm a natural level 4) and of course, I love ashy violet colors. I think the formula you shared would work for me, but would love alternative color suggestions.
You explained so well, you're a great teacher. I believe most hair dressers don't want to share details of how they do it but they fail to understand that sharing knowledge doesn't mean losing business. Love your honesty ❤
Wow ! this was amazing helpful! thank you so much, I just watched one of your other shades videos and went searching for more! so glad you posted these videos!
Fab! I’ve only just come across your channel and I am loving it so much learning a lot from just watching a few of your videos going to go through them all so I can get a better a understanding of Redken! Thank you so much for posting such informative videos xxx
I'm new to Shades Eq! I have tried the walnut and I absolutely love it. I feel like it can go a long way with skin tones and hues. I love your videos! Thank you for sharing! 💓 I would love to see the list of your formulas!
I really loved this! I'm not a stylist, I am a nail tech but worked in a small full service salon for years and have a huge interest in hair so I always paid attention. I call myself a kitchen-tician :) Anyway, i love doing colour, but am always scared of toner because of a huge accident back when I was just learning about self colouring etc. I looked like queen Elizabeth and I was 27! LOL Anyhow, you did a great job explaining without being too technical that those who don't know anything about colour wouldn't understand, but also without being too layman... or talking down. Loved this and I am totally a new subbie now. You mentioned talking about other toners you use for reds and such... yes please!!! I will be waiting very excitedly! You were awesome girl! Amanda!
+PlumpPenguinPaints thank you so much!!!! I'm so happy I can help. Color was really confusing to me too but once you break it down it's not confusing at all! I'll keep posting tutorials like this and I want to explain a lot more for you all. Also don't be afraid of toners. They are your best friends! But I totally understand how you feel after you turned into Queen Elizabeth lol but please DM me on Instagram if you have any questions! @ DaniellaBenita Thank you again ❤️❤️❤️
So refreshing to see a video which was to the point & informative. I did enjoy your video, you gave good step by step instructions. You were professional & not silly as some videos can be.👍
Hi I am so glad that I found your channel. I have never had anyone to explain color and it is amazing!! I wish you were my hair dresser!! Keep the videos coming!!
Best toners for different hair colors? How could she do that. It would depend what your goal color is. Theres 100 different toners that deposit color. So, 2 brunettes could want a different outcome.
You really should be a teacher for color! I am a teacher, and you explain it very well! Can you do more videos of showing color correction with different toners? before and after? Thank you!
Thank you Danielle so much for your time and great info. I am qualified to a level 2 and just want learn about colour correction and toning so much so your videos just help immensely! Will be looking out for more. Hoping we will be able to get hold of the EQ range here in England.xx
I am a blond needing NN for grey roots but this has been very informative. I am not a beautician but a self learner for my hair. Thank you for explaining in simple form how to... will try.
Thank you so much for sharing your TRUE knowledge on Shades EQ. Just found you and subscribed, I am looking forward to watching all your videos! Blessings on your new business! You will be very successful!❤
I really don’t understand the thumbs down that’s crazy to me but you explained perfectly you are amazing thank you sm. Toning can are really hard to understand and you explained it so well.
Daniella Benita u r such a nice person ! A lot of hairdresser don't give their secrets for people who can't offer to get their hair done professionally
When adding the clear for the toner, do you do a 1:1 equal ratio as well as processing solution? So say: 1 oz 9v, 1 oz processing solution, and 1 oz clear? Or would that dilute it too much? Love your videos 😊
Thank you for this!!!! Yours is the first helpful video I've come across while trying to educate myself on this product. I would LOVE more videos on shades eq formulas. I'm wondering specifically... Which colors would you use if you were trying to brighten up a dulled out platinum blonde and also add a ashy level 7 root smudge?
+Amanda Albers root smudged always use an N. So whether you're using a 7,8,9 I always use 7n, 8n, 9n! If you want a little bit more of an ashy root add a little B to it and you'll be good to go! If you want to brighten I would use a highlift. Redken has blonde highlifts that tone and lift at the same time called blonde idol. They are gorgeous! You should check those out and see how you like them but if her hair is really fragile make sure to be careful about adding heat and using foils. ❤️❤️❤️
I love your videos!! I mistakenly used toner (wella with 20v) all over my hair and it brightened my highlights perfectly BUT it pulled my natural 6/7 root almost orange 😢. I was thinking of using shades eq to do a root shadow or balayage to get my roots back to their natural state. Seeing none of your highlights visible above though makes me nervous though (you look amazing I’m just looking for more of a balayage). Also you saying blonde can turn green terrifies me too lol I got my hands on 6N, 9N, 9T, clear, and processing solution. Would it work to paint the 6N/ clear in my roots, and then paint 9N/9T in the middle, and 9T/ clear to the ends and front pieces. Would this blend?
I just find you and I subscribed I was looking for this color line education and you were well explained Thank you so much for your time many blessings.
Carroll K you're so welcome!!! And it depends if I want the color to really set in rough dry someone but be very precise about the placement of the color because once the color touches dry hair it sticks! If I put toner on wet hair I'm going to get a much more minimal result. So I'll mostly towel dry all of the water from their hair then I'll take the toner and put it all over. I like to brush it through too just to make sure you get it completely saturated! ❤️
Hello Daniella, great video. Right to the point. What is your favorite formula for low lights for blonds? Once in 6 month I would do low lights for my highlighted blondes. I have never used EQ. Let say for level 10.
OM Gaaaaawwwh?!?!U explained this all so well!!Thank u for taking the time & giving the best instructions that I have personally heard(& I’ve seen/heard A LOT...) thus far!!Very down 2earth like u were just having a normal conversation with u’r friends.Very relatable & so easy 2 follow. Not 2 mention that u just gained another subscriber as of today so keep up the good work girlfriend!!!;-)✌🏼💇🏼♀️🤩
Hi love this video! Thank you. My question is, after pre-softening grey hair with developer, do you apply the color on top of that by itself? Or mix the color with more developer?
Hi Daniella. Love your videos! Thank you for making them so easy to understand. ! I just wanted to know if when mixing two different colors does that mean we also double the amount of the processing solution? I'm gonna try the 9V, 9NB ( 1 oz each) so how much processing solution do i use? 1oz? or 2 oz? Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks!
yes, thanks daniella, your videos are very informative. how long should you wait from the time you color your hair (permanent) dark brown to apply highlights or balayage? and what should i use? thank you. i would like caramel balayage.
I would wait at least 3 months so most of the color gets rinsed out. It depends on hair dark your hair is but I would suggest doing highlights if you want your hair to lift enough. I love redken flash lift for lightener and I would definitely use some type of bond builder so your hair doesn't become damaged while it's lifting. I really like redken Ph bonder or if you want to spend a little more money olaplex is the best and they sell a travel pack that isn't too expensive! If you want to send me pictures of your hair color currently and also the look you are trying to get too ill help you formulate! Direct message me on my instagram! @DaniellaBenita
This is a great tutorial. I followed your directions and it worked. This is my first time coloring my hair on my own. I do have a few questions though. My natural base is a level 8.5 but I regularly get a full set of foiled highlights so it ends up being around 9. I used 1 ounce 9NB and 1 ounce 9V +2 ounces of the processing solution. I did the roots first then let that sit for about five minutes and then ran it through the rest of my hair for 11 more minutes. Then I rinsed it out because it was starting to look dark in the mirror so I panicked. It actually came out a pretty color, very natural looking. But a bit darker and more "ashy" than I hoped. Also I have some gray around my temples and at the roots and it seems to resist the color. Do you have any tips for how I can better adjust the formula and my method to improve next time? Thanks so much.
Hello! I'm actually starting a one on one color consulting service. Direct message me on Instagram and I can give you more information! @DaniellaBenita
Thx for the informative video. I'm not a stylist who likes to play around. Recently did my daughters hair kind of a balayage 🙄, toned it, then glazed it with a kenra demi permanent. It took a redish finish that i dont mind, but since school is starting i want to do a reverse balayage with a close to her natural color which is a light brown, closed to the 6nb of this line. I was wondering if i need to mixed this color with thw violet or blue to cancelled the redish tone, or choose a lighter tone to achieve the desire color, or if I can use the color as it is.
Can you use it with a level 6 or 7 developer? That's not Redken? I have 09AA & 8C I'm about a level 8 blonde but the Redken developper is hard to come by for me
Favorite color video ever! Have you tried 6NA as a root smudge/base breaker yet? My mids to ends are a 9/10 (which I'm happy with) but I'm pulling a little red at my roots. I was thinking the 6NA may help to counter the red/orange a bit. Or do you think the 5N would be enough to counter? Thanks in advance and I love the way you explain in the video!! 😊
Thank you. I really like the video! The part of wassing the toner out without bleeding is not very clear to me. you wash out the lighter ends, and put a conditioner on it, and the you wash out the rest?? thank you ☺
Before applying the color, do you have to bleach the hair, or do you apply the color directly with the processing solution( i have grey hair and want to do that colour at home,Thanks a lot, from Spain)
Hi Daniella Love how you explain!!! But I have a problem and I hope you can help me Most of my clients are latinas and they always pull red!!!😞 What tones you recommend for them hope you reply!! Million thanks in advance!!
Claudia Rivera hey Claudia! When my clients lift red I would use something with a blue base to it. Redken has 6b or you can clear out 1b and apply it but you have to be careful doing that. I would also consider using a different lightener. I use Schwarzkopf vario lightener and it helps me lift my clients so much better and more consistently than other lighteners. It's creamy instead of powdery. Try giving that a shot because the main issue is lifting them enough. Toners can only do so much! I also recommend using olaplex to protect their hair and try lightening much thinner sections of hair. The thinner the section the easier it is to lift!
Soo you can use for your roots too basically all over coverage... I always worry all my hair will fall out ... great video I've been doing my own hair for 20 plus years and I got a beautiful box from Redken with all of their brand new shades five bottles plus processing solution I am a little nervous as long as I know my hair won't fall out I'll give it a shot
Can I use this product to make my hair darker instead of using permanent color? My hair is as light as yours in this video with dark roots. Please help.
Hello Daniella, how do you remove red/orange highlights from blonde? Are 9V and 9NB enough, or would you add another? Thank you very much for your help ! have a nice day :)
Daniella, You are adorable and a great teacher! I am wondering if there is any possibility Shades EQ will cover gray or does it just wash out? I have to do color every three weeks because my hair grows so fast and I would love to do the EQ occasionally to give my hair a rest from the 20% processing solution and also to add shine! I use the Redken Color gels or the Redken Creams for regular coloring. My hair is a level 8-9 blonde with highlights. I would love to not have to do highlights as frequently as I do because of the bleaching, but thats another matter. Anyhoo, Ive used the 9GB in the gels and its a good color with the 20. On the top of my head Im about 60 % gray but underneath Im considerably less. I bought the 09N and the 09G in the shades, figuring I could neutralize to much brass or green with that combo. Am I wasting my time regarding the gray, should I just stick with the color gels? Thank you, Lise
Thank you! I remember being in hair school and our teachers made color sooooo complicated so I really try to simplify it. But you need to use a permanent color to cover grey. Shades EQ does not lift the hair so it will temporarily cover a small amount of the grey but after about a week it will rinse out. I would stick to the 9GB and if you are getting brassy roots I would suggest adding a neutral into your formula. So use 9N and 9GB equal parts and see how you feel!
Hi@@DaniellaBenita, I have to laugh, after I wrote this and before I read your response, I went ahead and threw caution to the wind and did the Shades EQ and found out that what you said is exactly true> LOL, So today, my poor hair roots were done with 9GB on its own and it looks better, but again, exactly as you said, it did give me brassy roots! Im giving my hair a rest for a few weeks and using a purple shampoo in the next few days, and next time I will use the 9N AND the 9GB. Thank you Daniella, you are a sweetie.
Lise Bowles awe no! Don’t worry I’m sure they look great but definitely try the 9N and if it’s still a little too warm drop it to 8N. Dropping it another level really helps reduce brass ❤️
what happens if you mix 5n EQ gloss and 5Nw? I am trying to add some warmth to my color so I will add after i wash off my color. Right now I am 5n and 5bg. Need some help
What ratio to do you use when mixing a violet with a warm tone, basically when you are mixing more than one redkin to cancel out yellow but add a warm at the same time? Thanks in advance 😊
Hello , great information here. I want to ask you what do you recommend for African American clients who like black hair but grays are visible.. clients wants black hair. How do I cover the gray.
Thanks for the explanation😘 I have black-blue redken 01b onyx, which processing solution should I use? Redken shades eq gloss solution is okay to mix with? My purpose is very black hair. Thanks in advance :)
This video popped up when I was searching, so a little late lol. Your videos are so helpful! What formula would you use if there is still too much orange after lifting from Level 3 to 8/9 (using Schwarzkopf Blond me). Or would you suggest another round of bleaching first before toning?
Hi Daniella, I need your advice again. where is the difference in the mix of clear and processing polution? My hair is much brighter now with many highlights and I want to have a nice gold tone. should I take 09g or rather 07g? the shade shouldn’t be too red but also not too cold blonde. thanks in advance for your answer😊
Thank you Daniella for so much info. I am wandering if I can mix the 010 N with 9V and do a full head toner or I have to do the N on top and the 9V on the bottom like you are showing in this video?
Hi Daniella I'm new in your channel and I loved it, thanks for all your explanation, just I have one question if I have dark roots, and high lights but really old, and I use this toner, my roots will look I little light if I used the blond mix that you recomend? or just the bleached hair will change colour? Thanks :)
I found out that they don't sell this product in my country :( can't get it on Ebay or Amazon either. Have you ever tried Schwarzkopf Igora Vibrance rage??
Should I use the number 2 ph binder before or after I tone? Say I bleach my mid shaft and ends and then bump my roots? Should I apply the blonder next and then tone or vice versa? I just recently discovered you on utube and you are my new Favorite! You explain and simplify things so well, thank you for all of the wisdom you continue to gift us with! Also, I recently purchased the redken binder so should I bump the developer when bleaching like you do with olaplex?
Thanks (from Italy) for this video... I've a question for you: how can I tone brassy hair (I can't bleaching them anymore...) with some orange and yellow colors, level 7/8...? Thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Are you still able to use the redken toners with a creme developer (5-10 vol)? Its a preference thing for me. As you explain a lot easy to control. I want to try these colors because the shades but not too sold on consistancy..
I have used 10 volume before and it works just fine. I'm pretty sure they dont recommend it but oh well lol There's also a thicker shades EQ you can by thats a cream now. I would also recommend that!
I dye my hair black I like the hair to be black even when the Sun Shines on it where it has more of a gray or shiny look instead of an undertone. what is your recommendation for me to tone down the brassiness when the Black fades it turns red orange and I don't like those tones. Do you recommend any type of formula that I could use even that gloss but a shade that is for people that dye their hair black. Thanks
Hey! I would do equal parts 1B with shades eq processing solution. Be careful when applying though. It stains everythinggg. Make sure to wear gloves and clothes you don't love and use a dark towel!
@@DaniellaBenita thank you for your response I also saw that on the the Redken Instagram that they actually mixed the 1B with yellow kicker and they gave the black hair a lot of shine do you recommend that
Just had a gloss treatment on my salon and want to replicate at home. I am about a 6, golden.. Would you recommend the 1/2 oz 5n + 1/2 oz clear + 1 oz processing solution OR would you just recommend using a 1 oz of 6 and 1 oz of solution ? I guess I am asking which do you think is darker, the 1/2 dilution of 5 vs the 1 full oz of a true 6 ? I am worried about depositing too dark a color ... Thanks, and great video!
Hi Daniella, I love your videos. In this time of Coronavirus, we are doing our own hair at home. With my daughters hair, she wants blond highlights but no gold and not silver. I saw where you recommended the Redken 09V and 09NB. Do I use just the 00 cream or a processor too? Also do you think it would be a good color as she is a dirty blond or dark blond naturally. Also, having a hard time finding the 09NB but found 08NB and remember you said if I add more 00 it will lighten a shade? Do I use developer and 00 with the other 2?
This has been the simplest explanation as far as the breakdown and colors to use when using shades eq. Thanks so much!
Manna Styles thank you! ✨😘😘

Not sure if my other question went through
In regards to purchasing the larger bottles of Olaplex or if the Redken PH was just as good

I currently use Redken Gel Lacquer 6NW and bottom hair is highlighted caramel and thinking of doing the gloss. Should I go with 6N or clear?
Thank you!!! I loved your video! Straight to the point, sharing your valuable experience! ❤
I just find you and I subscribed I was looking for this color line education and you were well explained
Thank you so much for your time many blessings.
Daniella, thank you for this video. So well explained. You helped me so much!
Hi from South Wales in Great Britain, thankyou so much have learned so much about these toners xx
Love the video, thank you! I'm trying to formulate a level 5-6 Auburn shade, red/brown, do you have a fave formula for that in your bag of tricks? 😊
Your videos are so informative! Thank you for that!
When you tone, do you usually do it on wet or dry hair?
Natalia LoPresto 7NB is my go to! It blends perfectly with light blonde.
Thank you, Daniella! I am so happy I stopped by here!
Thanks for this video and glad you mentioned silicones as I won’t be using this product
So amazing how you so clear about everything. Thank you so much
This is a great tutorial.
USA 1 that’s my exact formulation & colour as well . Did u change anything ??? I purchased eq 9NB & eq9V but u haven’t tried it yet
Hey! Could you email me @contact@daniellabenita? I have a color form that you can fill out and I'll help you formulate this!
Please make a list for redheads. Your videos are very helpful. Thanxoxo a Bunch!
Boni Ramey thank you for watching and I will!
love all your videos!!!!!
Loved your video! Great explanation. How would you mix and apply 9n and 9v for orange / brassy after balayage? Thanks so much!
Rachel Robinson thank you!!! And definitely 6na is a great option or I love using 6gn to correct red! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Daniella Benita 6GN is a "gold neutral"? Or is it greenish?
Thank you. I really like the video! The part of wassing the toner out without bleeding is not very clear to me. you wash out the lighter ends, and put a conditioner on it, and the you wash out the rest??
thank you ☺
WOW...Thank you so much!, I'm looking forward to watching all your videos,It was so helpful😊
Awe thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Before applying the color, do you have to bleach the hair, or do you apply the color directly with the processing solution( i have grey hair and want to do that colour at home,Thanks a lot, from Spain)
Hi Daniella
Love how you explain!!!
But I have a problem and I hope you can help me
Most of my clients are latinas and they always pull red!!!😞
What tones you recommend for them hope you reply!!
Love this!! I feel like a learned so much 🤗🙏
Daniella, You are adorable and a great teacher!
Hi@@DaniellaBenita,
I have to laugh, after I wrote this and before I read your response, I went ahead and threw caution to the wind and did the Shades EQ and found out that what you said is exactly true> LOL, So today, my poor hair roots were done with 9GB on its own and it looks better, but again, exactly as you said, it did give me brassy roots!
Would love answer to these questions.
What ratio to do you use when mixing a violet with a warm tone, basically when you are mixing more than one redkin to cancel out yellow but add a warm at the same time? Thanks in advance 😊
Great explanation! Easy to follow ! Thanks!
Hello , great information here. I want to ask you what do you recommend for African American clients who like black hair but grays are visible.. clients wants black hair. How do I cover the gray.
This is such an informative video. Thank you for sharing 💖
Thanks for the explanation😘 I have black-blue redken 01b onyx, which processing solution should I use? Redken shades eq gloss solution is okay to mix with? My purpose is very black hair. Thanks in advance :)
Where can I buy these products and your videos is well formal
This video popped up when I was searching, so a little late lol. Your videos are so helpful! What formula would you use if there is still too much orange after lifting from Level 3 to 8/9 (using Schwarzkopf Blond me). Or would you suggest another round of bleaching first before toning?
Hi Daniella,
I need your advice again.
where is the difference in the mix of clear and processing polution?
My hair is much brighter now with many highlights and I want to have a nice gold tone. should I take 09g or rather 07g? the shade shouldn’t be too red but also not too cold blonde.
thanks in advance for your answer😊
Thank you, your videos are so very helpful and easy to follow.
Can I just do clear? I only need it for shine and moisture. I want to apply shades once a week. My hair loves it.
Julie Reardon you can use just clear. I made a video about how to apply a clear gloss. It shows you step by step how to do it ❤️
Pleaseee do a list of your favorites formulas 😃 I love your videos
Dayana garcia I will! We’re working on opening the salon but once that’s open much more to come!
Thanks :)
Love this girl!! So much information that I can actually understand lol
Yes list of toners!
Jeanette Chavez yes mam!
Daniella Benita what shade do you use on someone who wants (light) brown ashy hair? New subbie btw :)
Tiny Nguyen I love 6n with a cap of 6t! Leave it on for 20 minutes ❤️
Daniella Benita thank you 😘😘
I found out that they don't sell this product in my country :( can't get it on Ebay or Amazon either.
I'd love a fav toner for blonde
When you are mixing a 9NB with a 9p, are you still doing one ounce of each or a half ounce of each with 1 oz of processing solution?
hey were is your salon
Are you able to do base placement sheets for your balayage, babylights etc? Great vid btw
Do you think 9V and 9T are good to get that perfect silvery white platinum color?!
Thanks (from Italy) for this video... I've a question for you: how can I tone brassy hair (I can't bleaching them anymore...) with some orange and yellow colors, level 7/8...? Thanks
🙏🙏🙏
@@DaniellaBenita thank you for your response I also saw that on the the Redken Instagram that they actually mixed the 1B with yellow kicker and they gave the black hair a lot of shine do you recommend that
@@cmabel14 Yep but I'm not sure why they added yellow kicker. If you tried it on your hair and liked it I definitely recommend it!
WOW! Lots of great information. Thanks for sharing!
This video is so helpful. Thank you so much!! Can you show us how to do toner with brown hair or violet red? Please!!!
Thank you! You make it so easy to understand 🌸
Patty Zozaya yay! So happy this helped ❤️
Hi what can we substitute the processing solution for?
Hi I have a client wanting the mushroom /greige colour , just wondering if you have any tips or ideas for acheiving this colour.
I got the toner and developer but i couldnt find crystal clear.. do you think it will be ok to use water instead? 😅
Is the 5N product covers 100% the gray hair? Thank you 😊
