This quilt is going to be so pretty! I know making a quilt is a lot of work, so thank you for bringing us along as you go. I can't wait to see the end result!
No, these are so easy to line up. Just start your seam, then double check your bottoms are matching! You can hold this if you need to with your fingers, but the risk is pulling tension on the fabric. If you need one pin, at the bottom is where I would put it.
You are doing a great job. However leaving so much excess between chained pieces is just a waste of thread, a quarter inch is a bit too long, and back-stitching is only needed once there is weight to pull on the seams, like when putting borders on a quilt top. You are working so much harder than you need to. All the best.

I really love all of your things that you make I really do thank you for taking the time to show everyone
I would have liked to have seen the whole quilt on the first video so we could see where you are going
Great tutorial. Thank you
For a beginner, would you recommend pinning or using clover clips for precise sewing?

Thanks for the tip! I posted this video back in 2015 ... I've learned a lot since then. Have a great day!
Love it! Thanks!

What do you means by "knee lift"???
my sewing machine has a knee lift and it raises the foot when I press it.
