I have made numerous baby quilts from this pattern. It's my favorite quilt pattern. I'm just getting ready to make two twin size quilts using the techniques described in this pattern. I also used this pattern to make a king size quilt top for a friend who lost her husband and we used his dress shirts to make the top. She gave it to her son for his high school graduation. Thank you for sharing your talents.
This little quilt is definitely on my list of to do's. (I have a long list though) Thanks for the tutorial! I can't believe people would complain about someone being HELPFUL!!!!!
I adore watching all of the FatQuarterShop videos. Thanks so much to everyone involved for sharing your expertise in such an easy to follow and pleasing way. Thanks to Kimberley for presenting this tutorial with much needed tips on starching, pressing, seam matching...and just the simple things that alot of tutorials do not show you. I hope you all continue to make these videos for us.
I'm an experienced quilter, but I adore this video tutorial! No matter how long we've been quilting, there is always something to learn. :-) Thanks so much for a well-done, fun and helpful tutorial!! The quilt is beautiful and will change dramatically depending on the fabrics used. Awesome!!
This tutorial was the best one I've ever seen. I've look all over the web for something that is simple to understand. The way you methodically explained everything was easy to understand. Plus the fabric prints were beautiful. You are so meticulous.
I have watched hundreds of tutorials and this one was the absolute BEST. Very Very Great job Kimberly!! Love your technique. I wish I had used your technique years ago !! Again…Fantastic!!!
I just love this video. My grandmother taught me how to sew (more like the BARE basics). From that, I would make many little things for my dolls. Eight times out of 10 the seams would never align, but being a child, I was still having fun. This video, which I stumbled upon MONTHS & MONTHS ago, and which I've watch repeatedly, has slowly inspired me to take the task ofmaking my 1st quilt. I must say, if it were not for how excellent of a teacher you are in this video, I would not even attempt. God Bless.
I got my aunt to make my first son's quilt, and it irked because I was too nervous to mess it up. Had I of found this tutorial 13 years ago I would have just excelled. I love your precision, appreciate your absolutely perfect table and tools. You keep it about as Type A as I can possibly be satisfied with. Nothing puts my mind more at ease than a well oganized and all together tutor for gaining a new skill to bless my family with sentimental hand made gifts. Thank you for sharing your blessings. It truly eases my heart to look forward to some joyfilled memories I can make. I hope you think of that when you share yourself in these video's and know the ripple effect you create. You dear are blessing families.
Thanks for sharing! I used to enjoy challenging patterns. But, these days I don’t feel the need to try to impress people with skills. Rather, I want to share the art of the lovely colors.
You are neat and organized. I can tell by your beautiful clothes, appearance, the numbers you use to classify your fabric, the bucket for trimmings and I love everyone of them. Your mother must be proud of you!
What a great way to optimize a jelly roll. I Could see using this to make my baby blankets to donate or to make holiday throws and wall hangings! TFS :)
Thank you for this, I have just bought a new sewing machine and a jelly roll. I have never quilted and was looking for some inspiration and didn't really know where to start, Had I not have found this I would have cut the strips up into lots of squares and spent the next ten years never finishing it! I feel confident after watching this that I will be able to complete it in next to no time!
Love the video! No audio problems here....sometimes if I have a problem hearing something, using earplugs helps tremendously. This quilt is definitely on my to do list, I have quit a collection of Jelly Rolls!
Such a cute fun quilt and you make it look easy! Your explanations, tidy sewing area, so as not to get distracted from the task, and your easy calm demeanor, really makes it enjoyable! I've already printed off the pattern. This would be a super cute baby quilt! Thank you!
This is incredible! I've never sewn in my entire life and I have made two jelly roll quilts due to my sister's urging to watch this video and buy a machine! You really did make it so easy:)
I love how this beautiful girl explains what she is doing and the care of assembling, leaves nothing unsaid, beautiful quilts, super neat sewing and ironing, the spray starch makes everything so neat and easy to assemble.
Just wanted to tell you that I bought a sewing machine and used one for the first time to make this quilt for my baby girl! It was just so beautiful that I HAD to make one. Your instructions and tips (LOVE the starch suggestion!) made it simple and taught me the basics of quilting, all while constructing a beautiful pattern. Thank you so much!!! Please keep doing the tutorials!!!
Great video with lots of wonderful tips not only about ironing but also about off setting your seams. I can't wait to pull out my Jelly Rolls and make this quilt adorable quilt.
Absolutely fabulous instructions. One of the best tutorials on JR quilt top that I have viewed...and I have watched A LOT. Thank you for your nice soft voice and easy style!
I'm a newbie quilt maker and I can't wait to try this. I just ordered a jelly roll and can't wait for it to arrive!! I found the tutorial very easy to follow - we'll see if when I start sewing I can do it. I think I can. Thank you! :)
Hi Kimberly, great video! This video actually inspired me to take up quilting as a hobby - and I'm having a blast :-) I've made tons of mistakes but the result looks cute anyway. As soon as my binding's done, i'll start with your layer cake video. Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Belgium :-)
Hi Sarah! That is so great to hear! Good luck with the Jelly Roll Jam and Layer Cake Lemonade quilts! Be sure to share photos with us after you are done!
Hi Kimberly! I absolutely love how you teach. I made the Jelly Roll Jam with one half of the jelly roll and then the Jelly Roll Jam II with the other half. I loved them both and it was like they each had their own personalities even using the same fabric. It was amazing! I made different borders for them and they turned out really cute. I want to thank you for your videos as they are easy to follow and very clearly explained. I particularly love the info on starching as I have never done it like that before. Today I'm going to make the Layer Cake Lemonade Quilt and I know it will be awesome. I hope you keep the videos coming! I look forward to the videos I know you will do in the future. Thank you so much.
Linda did you buy the backing material from Fat Quarter shop? I am VERY new to their shop and to quilting if this sounds like a stupid question. Thanks

I used this pattern and tutorial to make a quilt out of a Bluebird Park jelly roll. It turned out absolutely perfectly and I've never had such straight and lined up seams. Thank you for all the pointers in this video. It made a huge difference!
Thank you for watching, Melissa! We would love to see a photo of your Blueberry Park Jelly Roll Jam quilt! You can post a photo to facebook.com/fatquartershop!
Kimberly, thank you for letting us have the pattern for this quilt because it really does look easy to make. :) I really liked your video. I have to start watching you more often. :)
Hi Kimberly, great videos, and lately in 2018 I'm reading about a lot of people starching fabric, what happens when you wash the quilt once it is complete, does starch wash out? Is the starch mainly for stabilizing while cutting and creating the quilt top?
Fat Quarter Shop hello ? When using cotton I have always been told to wash it first . would you recommend this with these fabric rolls. I will be using the quilt for bedding so it will be washed at some point.
Hi Kimberly, Perfection. Your style of teaching is showing and telling why ... this is a way for new quilters to learn and remember why ... a way to remember better. It's also a great refreshing course for us 'oldies' . Great job.
Thanks, Cherryl! We are so happy to have you watching! This quilt is perfect for beginners! You can find the pattern on our website, Fat Quarter Shop . com. Following the pattern and watching the tutorial video will make the process much easier!
I love this tutorial. I can have a 72 inch quilt if I make 4 of these. I found the sound was good on my computer. I have external speakers and that really helps.
Thanks for watching, Robin! During that step, you can press that seam any direction you would like. Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions!
I'm so glad I found this tutorial today just before I start my FIRST quilt! Even though I've watched hundreds of tutorials preparing for this day, Kimberly showed me things I haven't seen before and things I know I would've run into. Thank you for another invaluable lesson on this great quilt!
I liked this video because you showed how to cut and sew step by step! I want to know how many blocks across and how many down to make a 90"x90" quilt. And how many jelly rolls I need. I want to make a reversible color theme as well in another color. So just let me know how many block and how many rolls I need thanks. ✂️❤️

What a success story! 1.5 million views showing on the counter. I have always admired you for precision, clarity of instructions and such pretty choice of fabric colours. Thank you so much for being part of my sewing journey. I’m ready to return to cross-stitch once more and look forward to checking out you floss channel. I just watched your interview with “Just Get it Done Quilts” - I’m from Canada’s West Coast- and just wanted to reach out with gratitude for all you and your team do. Best luck moving forward.
Thank you for the great video, Kimberly!! It turned out SUPER cute! I was wondering, why do some quilters swear by pressing seams to the dark (or all up/down), and some swear by pressing them open? What are the benefits/drawbacks for each type? I want to thank you, again, for sharing your skills with us! :)
Pressing is really a personal preference. I think people who press open like it because the seams are flatter. I think people who press to one side like it because your seams will nest! My preference is to press to one side unless my block is bulky and has a lot of seams (then I would press open). Thanks for your question.
I keep looking at my beautiful jelly rolls…they have become more “decor” than usable items in my sewing room!! You have inspired me to open them up and get sewing!!
I have only been quilting a year, but have made a bunch of quilts with jelly rolls and other precuts - there are some great tips in this video that I haven't seen before (middle piece where crease falls, weakest part of block...)! So happy to have stumbled upon it. Love The Fat Quarter Shop as a key resource, too... didn't pick up on the tutorials till now! Good job.
Hi Greydogblues! Thank you for watching. We are glad that you picked up some tips from our video! We hope you spend some time browsing our channel! Happy sewing.
....you can also just cut them in half before sewing them all together...makes them more manageable, and you have plenty of length anyway. plus....all that hard ironing probably distorted them...they should be pressed more gently
Hallo Kimberlay, I like this video so mutch. I want to buy the jelly roll's behind you. can you tell me the name of this 3 colours and this one you do the quilt in the video. Many thank's for your answer. Gabriele
Came to watch this after your interview with Karen Brown (JGIDQ). This is really quite good instruction and I have added Jelly Roll Jam to my ever increasing "to be made" list. I think I will use this pattern for charity baby quilts, it is so cute! I have watched your new content every week and you are just so genuine; I enjoy your work very much. Thanks for keeping us all going with encouragement and inspiration!
Hey Rodney! You can find measurements and fabric amounts here: blog.fatquartershop.com/2014/04/how-to-make-jelly-roll-jam-bigger.html For a twin, you would need 3 Jelly Rolls and for a Queen 4 Jelly Rolls. Hope this helps!
Like your way of showing us what to do. Please tell me the lines from the quilts behind you. From left (orange) to right. Want to buy the fabric. Thank you so much. Louise from Sweden
Hi Louise, the left quilt is made with Honeysweet by Fig Tree, Middle is Scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille and the right is Giggles by Me and My Sister Designs. Hope this helps. Thanks!
Great tutorial and put together perfectly. One suggestion, please. Adjust your volume ... We can turn the sound down, but we can not turn it up above the volume you record it. Please speak louder ... and/or ... use a microphone that is attached to your clothing. Again, great tutorial!
Love this fabric. The colors are so vibrant. Too bad this video is like 10 years old. I guess I’ll find something close. That’s the part I hate . Try to put colors together. Very lovely quilt and your mom is so sweet. Lucky girl.
Kimberly, What a good teacher you are! Thanks for this; you have some neat, helpful tips: starch?! I can't wait to experience how that makes handling, cutting, sewing. This is my first jelly roll--thanks for a great first jelly roll tutorial!
Glad I found the jelly roll jam videos. I make quilts for a hospital NICU and they have to be 36”. These are perfect!

Hi Kimberly, great videos, and lately in 2018 I'm reading about a lot of people starching fabric, what happens when you wash the quilt once it is complete, does starch wash out? Is the starch mainly for stabilizing while cutting and creating the quilt top?
Yes the starch completely washes out. Kimberly uses a medium starch that stabilizes her fabric for cutting

I think I will use this pattern for charity baby quilts, it is so cute! I have watched your new content every week and you are just so genuine; I enjoy your work very much. Thanks for keeping us all going with encouragement and inspiration!
I like this. so if i want to make it bigger like . a twin size or full or queen size. How many rolls and How many rows would i do? I am a beginner.
Hey Rodney! You can find measurements and fabric amounts here: blog.fatquartershop.com/2014/04/how-to-make-jelly-roll-jam-bigger.html
For a twin, you would need 3 Jelly Rolls and for a Queen 4 Jelly Rolls. Hope this helps!
I love your precision and organization. I like neat and clean and clear instruction. Thank you.
Thanks!
This makes a strip quilt much more interesting. Thank you
I always thought you were supposed to press the seams so that they were like an open book 😅
Andy Dawn same here.
I've just received my first jellyroll. Thanks for sharing such a simple tutorial. I'm gonna have a go. Wish me luck.
Good luck! You got this!
Great tutorial and put together perfectly. One suggestion, please. Adjust your volume ... We can turn the sound down, but we can not turn it up above the volume you record it. Please speak louder ... and/or ... use a microphone that is attached to your clothing. Again, great tutorial!
I love your videos…you are so calm and enjoyable to listen to and you instructions are great! Thank you so much😍😍😍
Great video, but the sound is way too low.
This is first video I ever watched on you tube. Later learned who Kimberly was.
liked the demonstration, but voice kept fading out thru out the video. my sound levels were 100% on both your video and my computer.
Love your classes. I watch them several times.
sound is too low. Pease adjust your volume as mine pc and your video is up as high as I can make them.
Thanks for making this look so easy, can't wait to get started on these for my twin granddaughters.
You seem to waste a lot of cut off pieces.

Love this fabric. The colors are so vibrant. Too bad this video is like 10 years old. I guess I’ll find something close. That’s the part I hate . Try to put colors together. Very lovely quilt and your mom is so sweet. Lucky girl.
I am having a hard time hearing it. I have my volume all the way up and speaker too and it sounds muffled.
Kimberly, What a good teacher you are! Thanks for this; you have some neat, helpful tips: starch?! I can't wait to experience how that makes handling, cutting, sewing. This is my first jelly roll--thanks for a great first jelly roll tutorial!
