Bengali, Indian here....We have been making quilts in this way since probably forever, and we call it "কাঁথা"/kantha. My thakuma, dida(grandmothers) and my mother stitches and recycles scraps of old clothes and makes kantha, i.e quilts that we use in rainy season or in fall season.
@@esperancafernandes7789 Yes, I was thinking she should get around $75 USD to get a reasonable return for that beautiful little bag but it wouldn't sell at a craft fair at that price. I remember seeing a Hawaiian quilt for sale at a shop on the Big Island about 30 years ago. It was for a King Size bed and they were asking $6000 USD! I kind of gasped out loud. I bought a pattern for a Full Size and bought the fabric for two colors and the batting and thread thinking, "Hah! Mine I could sell for about $250!" Well, after working on it in my spare time and getting pretty sick of it because the color scheme was pretty tiring and after a year I'd only finished 1/4 of it that 6K was starting to look like a pretty reasonable asking price. I have no good suggestion for how a person might make a living making such beautiful things for an appreciative public. "I" know what is involved in such things but I'm in a minority.
This made my realize that almost anyone CAN! We simply need to be willing to invest the time. Even more surprising is the satisfaction from doing this type of creative work, because it's that rare combination of engaging AND relaxing. Handicrafting useful items is meditative and stress-relieving ❤ My current favourite is bread making. I feed my family and make friends with my neighbors. No one's ever refused a warm, homemade loaf! 😊
This channel really teaches in a practical way! Without listening to long and boring explanations where nothing is understood, even if we are in countries where the language is different we can all understand perfectly !!!! Thank you for sharing your art and teaching us to create and recycle!!! Greetings from Argentina :)
Some people are so talented, I wish I had that talent. The hand embroidery was super special, that was a very beautiful finish, I loved it. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I absolutely LOVE watching you create this gorgeous pouch from scraps. The embroidery makes it perfect, adding a special touch. You make it look so easy!
This is beautiful! You are truly talented. The material by itself, not so pretty. But your color combo and the embroidering it all, just beautiful. Your work is exquisite❣️❣️
Beautiful work and YES home hand made takes time and effort and we've lost that blessing of slowing down Well done I'm inspired to use my scraps like this 🙏💐😍
Thank you Thuy, I really really enjoyed watching you create this stunningly beautiful and uniquely Gorgeous purse. It’s your sewing 🧵 that really puts this in a league of its own. Sensational work and your hand stitching is second to none!!!!!!!!!! Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
I don't know from which part to the world you are from but a good teacher is always a good teacher wherever she is. What a beautiful demonstration ! I your one more fan increased... love from India.

OMG!!! This is beautiful craftsmanship!❤ All those hand-stitched embellishments make this a unique clutch. Thank you for sharing this video with you custom technique. Wish I had a 1/4 of the embroidery stitching knowledge you applied to this bag.
And the music is relaxing I would love to do this craft Started with a pair of house slippers, but never finished it 😢 I'm going to pick it up again, its just too beautiful 😊
This is an extraordinarily beautiful piece of work. Not only is it a joyful and mindful video to watch you show us how to make it at the same time! A truly inspiring and uplifting time spent watching craft videos. Thank you!
Thuy, do you make these for your own enjoyment or to sell or to teach others or all of these reasons? I am 73 years old and my mother taught me to quilt the old fashioned way using scraps and timeless patch work patterns. She told me of the women in her town of Tupelo, Mississippi, USA during "The Great Depression 1929-the beginning of WWII. The Deep South of the USA was still famous for growing cotton and had big industustries processing it into cloth and creating garments and household linens. The women of the town never wasted anything and if there were any scraps to be had in fabrics, thread or even in the "gins" where the fiber was processed before weaving, they grabbed it before it ever made it to the trash. They used the cast off fiber and carded it into soft batting, saved the discarded spools that got tossed out the windows of the factories when they started working poorly in the fast industrial sewing machines and needed to be replaced with new ones and of course fabric scraps of any size or shape that could always be used for some thing in a quilt. They would meet at an old house that was condemned, bring food and a big coffee pot and their quilting frames and work and gossip all day and make as many quilts as humanly possible for as many desparate people in the community that needed them--especially those with children. I "inherited" that ethic of finding value and beauty from anything and really honor someone who can cut and arrange patterns and embellish them with scraps of embroidery thread, maybe beads, fabric paints--there are endless possibilities! One personal challenge I did periodically was to visit charity stores and buy grab bags of pretty "ugly" fabrics and see just how pretty I could make them in a quilt in spite of themselves. It might might take five or so years to get the magic out of them but I always managed it. I usually got the most compliments from the old monsters, too! Silly me. Alas, I have shaky and painful hands now so watching you work the magic really makes me happy and you've made this crazy old woman's day today. Thank you so very much.
I have been learning how to embroider this year. I have collected way too many tiny scrap bits and want to use them. Thank you for this video. It's amazing visual instructions.
I don't have hand sewing skills like that. The patchwork I could do. That would help with the guilt over scraps. But you certainly make it possible for anyone to learn those flower skills. This is a beautiful zipper pouch. Well done.
This reminds me of "crazy quilting" which we used to do with our leftover fabric years ago. Then when we got pieces large wnough, we'd use it to make pillow covers, tote bags, or whatever a patchwork design would be suitable for. All ideas have been around before in some fashion.

Punjabi here we r too make many things from leftovers😊
Kutch, in Gujrat, India, also has this type. Indians have always believed in recycling, minimalism & brilliant art
My mother and grandmothers all did this in the US. It was sometimes called a "crazy quilt". This is what a scrap bag / box is for.
Großartig ❤
I think every Indian state will have a version of this type of quilt. In Maharashtra we call it a गोधडी/Godhadi
This is such a great idea. In a world of overconsumption, repurposing scraps and making something beautiful is commendable.
E muito complicado fica um trabalhi magnifico. Mas ninguém valoriza .imagine fazer um preço justo para vender😢
