I love every word that you say... The information is changing my life drastically at 72...yes 72 and I have soooo many insights and revelations and unfortunately regrets as well... I wish this knowledge was available 50 years ago... THANK YOU SO MUCH

Boring? Yes. This helped me totally change my attitude about laundry and dishes.
Then I changed the word from boring to peace.
So much better than negative excitement

I wish the nuns at my school would have taught us the Bible like you do. Instead, they treated us like small twisted criminals who should be afraid of God every second of our miserable existences. Thanks Tim.

      The Bible: God is love.

Home, a complete foreign concept, its a abstract idea, only one woman in my whole life where I felt home with. Cant believe im.hearing the guy, verbalize exactly what i did when i was 8 years old. My safe place was the dog house in the back yard, i lived in it most of the time

I hid sometimes from my mother and siblings. It was like living under siege. My mother was my first bully and then my older sister and brother.

sadly, while this is an incredible disection of complex trauma, it is in fact complex and takes time most people don't feel they have to fully grasp. Few even know the problems are so definable. but on the other hand, those that do understand this and commit to the realizations of their issues and solutions are in for a life time aimed at peace. in spurts at first, but even the spurts produce hope and hunger. still working on all this myself but the peace does increase and even feels natural after a while.

I have never had a drinking or drug problem. I am one of those who struggled to figure out why I needed " recovery".
    Me?
So many people like me, don't realize that pride, self- Righteousness, and codependency ( always trying to fix others) is an addiction. It's harder to spot than some others because it took me a long time to realize we are all addicts of one kind or another and there is no room for snobbery- even though it was done to me being a child of poverty.
I went to CR..which they include anyone who is willing to be an honest human..hurts, habits, hang-ups.. for two years got a sponsor..do you have CR in Canada?

Okay, but what if you're Atheist? What treatment is there for clients that can only get strength out of things and people that are real? I've watched a lot of your videos, and it's fantastic that you understand complex PTSD so well. but I'm confused because most of these are about explanation. I haven't heard a whole lot about what to actually do... I've been in therapy for 20 years, it feels hopeless. You're one of the first people I've ever seen that gets it, but it feels like there's still no direction.

silverwasp I have been frustrated with the finding the “recipe” for healing this too. When I am consistent with gratitude, exercising, healthy eating, Alanon, fresh air, and sleep I feel a lot better. As soon as I let something slip, then I can feel myself start to go downhill again. I am not cured, but I am a lot better than I used to be.

There are other modalities that look at recovery and healing from a secular, somatic, or scientific approach. Patrick Teahan, Sukie Baxter, Peter Levine, and Stephen Porges are all practitioners that look at trauma through the mind/body connection, but don't focus on the spiritual aspects (there might be some mention, but it's certainly not a main component of the message). Baxter and Teahan have UA-cam channels. Levine and Porges are both therapists and authors, but UA-cam offers many of their lectures and interviews.
Somatic therapies, body work, and mindfulness practices would all be helpful. The premise is still the same; you need to relearn trust and safety. You can establish that sense of safety with yourself, but as Tim mentions, it doesn't come from the external. It's things like being a good "parent" to yourself. It comes from a regulated nervous system and it comes from rewriting neural pathways.
FYI, there was an NIH study that proved yoga to be more effective in the treatment of PTSD than Prozac. That study was led by Bessel van der Kolk, who would also be a good reference / resource.
Internal family systems might also be helpful (Richard Schwartz).
On a personal note, I was abused with religion. I don't have Christian beliefs and I have a little bit of a challenge with the G word. However, I do believe there is something out there. Taoist and Buddhist philosophies are a little bit easier to digest than the angry and wrathful Father figure. I don't know how hardcore your atheist perspectives are, but if you entertain there might possibly be more, look into quantum physics or the Eastern philosophies. IMHO, the biggest challenge I have with Christianity is the Christians. The message Jesus taught is actually more New Age than Christian. (The whole love people concept).
In a moment of desperation, I asked Spirit / Source to reveal itself. I believe it did (many times). But I had a willingness to see. Water doesn't care what you call it. It just is and does what water does. Personally, I believe Source is more like that; doesn't care what we call it and does it's thing. I don't think a spiritual belief is absolutely necessary, but it's been a key component in my healing path.
Also, look into some of the work that's taking place with plant medicines. Johns Hopkins University has had some very promising results with psilocybin.
There are many ways up the mountain. Keep learning, the right road will present itself. Healing is possible.
