Thank you so much for this, now I understand a lot more about how he gets his sound. I love the fact that uses lower open tunnings a lot, without sounding muddy.
For the B tuning range (a perfect fourth interval lower in pitch than E standard guitars) there is a good chance it's a Baritone guitar with thicker strings than an E standard tuned guitar
The high G does suck! I replace it with a thinner B string and tune it to the same low G which still gives the dual sound because of the thickness difference. Thanks to John for inadvertently teaching me this when I was fiddling with my new 12 string. Really great stuff man. We all will deal with the high G string issue in different ways, but it definitely is a stupid idea for 12 strings to have the ultra skinny G. Manufacturers, wake the hell up and take notes!!!
Hi tyler, i would like to ask if what type of string gauges you use for a 12 string. Planning tp restore an old 12 string of a friend. Hope you could share me an advice. Thank you!
I used to work for a guitar company (Maton, actually) and I used to wear safety glasses when I was setting up 12-strings because of how often that octave G would break and fly up, lol!. Many 12-string players use a heavy unwound string as a second G, tuned in unison. But the problem with this is that intonation is really compromised as you go up the neck since the wound and plain strings have such different tensions. Plus you get a metallic overtone that personally I don't really like. (I use a nickel wound 018 for the high A on my DADGAD guitar for this reason.) FWIW, always buy strings from a reputable retailer, even if they are a little more expensive. The market is awash with fake strings and they are often quite poor quality.
So does his acoustic signal end up going through his amps too? Or does it go straight into the house system?Seems like if it went to the house system that he would have les control over that half of his sound...
Some sort of Dr martens, unsure of the exact name, but they are very close shape wise to both the 1460 and the pascal, a friend of mine had the same boots in a much darker brown, they're basically a standard 1460 (or Pascal) boot with slightly fewer eyelets and extra padding round the ankle, kind of like the way regular timberland boots have that black padded band round the back 😊
check out a/b pedals, essentially you plug in one signal to the input and then it splits the signal so that it can output to two sources (Fender Deville and Marshall)
I think it is strange how some people assign gender to inanimate objects or name an object a human name. Is it just me that thinks that it's really weird to do that?
Really enjoyed that. I'm a drummer but hardly ever get drum tours as cool as this. I love gear
this was great. He really seems to know what he wants and what he's doing.
