I was lucky enough to be in Nashville a few months ago and was able to catch the first night of his Ryman residency. I’ve got a little over a year of sobriety and this music has just been such a dear friend to me over the last year. They played Southeastern in its glorious entirety to celebrate its 10 year anniversary then played a second set of newer songs. By far one of the most incredible musical experiences of my life. It was almost transcendent. What a privilege it was to be in that room that night and experience that in person. It’s a moment and memory that I will cherish forever.
Dude, I’m so glad that you posted this because I’ll be doing a deep dive into his music mostly because of your comment I first started going into treatments centers and the 90s and I had some good stretches. I currently have 11 years and is the thing that heals me. I also find that when I play guitar because of the focus, it takes it occupies my brain in a positive way when I’m having those thoughts, congrats on your newfound freedom
I have never been more interested in checking-out someone’s music after a Rig Rundown than I am after this episode. Holy cow. Love this dude. Love his gear. Love the references he made to other musicians. Love that he threw a Steinberger into the mix! Dang… I’m ashamed to say I recognize his name, but that’s about it. I’ll change that right after searching for and watching his previous Rig Rundown!
The tube pre on the acoustic is totally money! I'm happy you guys are taking out awesome vintage gear and playing the shit out of it. That's what it deserves.
“I could go out with one Magnatone and play an entire tour and no one would really know the difference…” except his roadie. Haha! That’s a lot of gear. Isbell is super cool and I love the rig rundowns.
This was an absolute treat of a rundown. As a fairly new fan of Jason Isbell, this just makes me even more sold. What an amazing rig and just generally nice people 👍
I was waiting for this one! Thank you! I've seen Jason at the Ryman three times.. and also in Detroit. He can do it all... singer/songwriter.. and one hell of a guitarist. I love that he's such a nerd about the gear. I've learned a lot from watching his rundowns. Sadler is great, too. Perry delivered another great rundown. Well done, guys!
I remember seeing Isbell just after SE album at the Fillmore SF. He and Sadler had a rented backline of BFRI Deluxe Reverbs and were using really modest pedalboards. I think they each used one guitar for most of the show. Their sound was great. As much as I love gear, I appreciate the "Marc Ford" ethic of just a few good pedals, a cool amp and away ya' go. Rigs like these with a 1-800 customer service help line and a dedicated finance department just lose me.
Guys I love that you've done three rig rundowns with the 400 Unit. They are probably my favorite band...ever. Next time could you please have them play some of those guitars, amps, and pedals? I'd love to hear what they sound like outside of a band mix.
Excellent content, Jason is so into his gear and great that he takes them out and plays the stuff even though their value exceeds that of a family home!👏👏🎶 He has the same attitude as Joe B👏👏 Great that he took the time to be involved! Sadler was great also, great attitude if it feels good and sounds good, who cares what it is, just play it! 👍👍🎶
000s nestle into a mix so sweetly. Especially with multiple guitars and keys. He must be really digging the extra thwack of the Super Dreadnought. Those things are like an inch wider than a D-18.
@@alexstewart839 spot on. Will Johnson uses the signature D18 with the band, most often when the other players are on electric instruments. Still a big-time guitar and important to the show.
When you are a vintage guitar, you might want to end up in Jason's tour rig, rather than in some lawyers living room behind glass, never to be played again.
When I see these rigs I’m always interested in how they program their set lists. Scene switching between connected songs is such a challenge for me in a three-piece. The pops, pauses, and dropouts are a real bummer.
All of the programming leg work happens on the front end, before a rig like this is delivered. Setlist programming takes minutes through the RJM MMGT editor. Far easier than it might seem.
@@MichaelBethancourt I mean-I get it. I have extensive experience with the Boss switching unit and now the Quad Cortex. Kills me how songs have to come to a complete stop before I can switch scenes. It'd be nice to maintain delay trails and ring outs through a scene switch. Again-in a three-piece, guitar is responsible for filling dead air between songs. That doesn't work when your unit has to start at zero every scene.
@@tr_murf4399 Right on, I hear you. There are some tricks that might be worth a look (forgive me if you've exhausted these already) that involve parallel loops and/or bypassing those "in-between" effects without closing the loop in which they're found. They are, however, largely dependent on existing infrastructure and the way the effect you wish to have hold over is able to interact w/ external control. Sorry if this is all old hat, or if that initial reply came across as condescension, but there are options.
