    This is what happens when we get two perfectly " in tune " people truly engaged in a real conversation. Their passion for the subject matter, as well as their obvious respect for each others knowledge, ensures a great interview which is both informative and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed this video and I will probably be investing in a JHS Artificial Blonde pedal, if only to satisfy my curiosity and find out what can be achieved when it is applied to these clumsy old fingers 😂🙏

    Awesome! The first time I heard Madison was on Josh's Channel and I've been listening to her ever since. Love this woman, her guitar playing, song writing, singing, and live performances are out of this world. Gives one hope for the future of music. I really enjoy Josh's JHS Pedals channel, his guitar playing and his sense of humor too!

    The minimalist idea exists in the form of multi-effect pedal boards too. I used a DOD one for a church band. I had three different settings for the entire set. One with a chorus and EQ, another with long digital delay and EQ and another with chorus, short digital delay and EQ. Even though it had the capability to store 33 presets, I just used 3. And I could always add another.

    OMG love that she didn't know the whole purpose of her tuner pedal. I own one and actually use the poly tune functionality! The desire came to me when playing an outdoor festival - with weather changes, sun/shade, on top of normal instrument changes, staying in tune became like a religious experience. I would check my tuning between every single song. Often most strings would keep their tuning for a song, but one or two might not, but I would have to go string by string to find them. With the polytune, at a moment's notice I can see if everything's stayed put or which string(s) have gone out, then do that string on its own for the finer accuracy.
    The dude at Guitar Center who sold it to me dissed it and said it was a dumb idea, because who tunes multiple strings at once. Well there's your answer bucko, and I think you're a dumb idea!

    • @virtuososo
      @virtuososo Рік тому +3

      Exactly. When you don't have time to check all 6. Strum, see which one is off, then play that one alone to tune with mono display. I'm surprised Josh a) didn't envision that, and b) talked to so many people who also didn't. Seems obvious to me. (And it can do strobe. What.)

    I stumbled across the strum tuning feature on the TC Polytune Mini shortly after I got the tuner about six or seven years ago! Very cool feature! I use it religiously to get a general idea of how my guitar is “sitting”. Especially with my Strats at the beginning of each gig. I play in a lot of different environments especially in the warmer months. I always have a little “float” on my Strat trems and when going from outdoors to indoors and vice versa, the whole guitar often goes a tiny bit sharp or flat. So with a quick strum I get a general reading and then make small adjustments to the trem springs with a screwdriver to bring all six strings back to standard tuning. Of course I always double check each individual string before calling it “good”. But being able to see all six strings in relation to each other for starters is a great feature! That tuner (which also is said to have a buffer) has been on my main board longer than any pedal…except for an old Dunlop Crybaby…
    Nice vid! Nice rig! Nice, innovative playing! Thanks for sharing!

    • @mikem668
      @mikem668 Рік тому

      I just got the bigger one and the manual suggests it works best on the neck pickup strummed with your thumb. Not sure why. I play for myself, alone, so I've been using it before I practice to save time and get into the ballpark. I find it's also useful as a rough estimate of how well your guitars stay in tune between sessions.

    Signal chain:
    tuner > jhs bolt overdrive > jhs blonde trem 1 > jhs tidewater trem 2 > benson boost > jhs cub slapback delay > amp
    Interesting choice to put the boost after the tremolos and before the delay. My instinct would be to put it in the drive section or at the very end of the chain. Anyone know why she'd do this?

    Learned a lot here. Not the what, more the why and how. Gonna try to embrace the fewer pedals/know your settings thing - I'm mainly reverb/trem/OD anyway so I'm mostly there, just experimenting with examples of each in various ways. That tremolo pedal is the standout for me - sounds amazing!, but I'm focused on tremolo in a weird way right now. Warming up to vibrato, despite it bothering my sense of pitch when I play it, never when she does.
    Ooh, she name dropped Ry Cooder! One of my favorites, along with Lindley, Kottke, too many others to mention. And Madison Cunningham of course!

      You just up your string gauge. So if 9-42 is for E, you can do 10-52 for D standard, 11-56 for C standard, 12-58+ for B standard. So the tension feels similar across all tunings. Play around with gauges. I used to copy the Arch Enemy guys string gauges and it worked out nicely. They play in C standard.
