I had the GTE and was charging at home and work. I was filling up with petrol every 1500-2000 miles so averaged a very high MPG. This of course is dependent on how often you charge, how you drive etc, but it is easily possible to achieve 200+ mpg. Bear in mind you need to pay for the electric, but for many this might just be the best all round car available (along with the iV plus a few more). Basically, if a PHEV works for your travel, commute etc, then you will save money in the medium / long term. After 3 years and 40,000 miles I saw no degradation of the battery so a second hand GTE for £20k makes more sense than new. For those who haven’t yet, take the plunge! 🥸
Well, overall the Passat is still a good car (I am driving one myself). However, the sales volumes are shrinking which makes this model way more expensive to produce for VW than 10-15 years ago. So the cost reduction measures are unmistakable throughout the entire car. The replacement of the clock with a simple badge is just the tip of the iceberg. In terms of entertainment and latest technology, the Passat is now overtaken by both the new Skoda Octavia Combi and the Golf Variant. The real only advantage a Passat still offers over these two cars is a) more quietness inside and b) more range with one tank. That's it. Unfortunetaly. I'm a Passat driver myself and I think I'd always spec for the diesel. Fill up the tank and forget about it for 1400km. Also worth mentioning: under the false floor I got so much storage. Currently, under the false floor I got 1 basketball, 1 soccer ball, 1 toolbox, antifreeze, 1 picknick, blanket, 1 big umbrella, 1 kids umbrella and a crank. Hey! There you go again - every time Mat mentions a VW Group DSG or S-tronic he says they "can feel a bit jerky at low speeds", but all the DSG's I've tried are a smooth as anything! Plus, Mat you mentioned the Digital Drivers Display has old fashioned gauges to the side - that's because that car had the later 10-Inch display. Earlier digital displays, or on some other cars, the VAG cars had a 12.3" display, which is all digital! Cheers
2:08 - 🤣 I love Mat's transition back from _Matteus_ to Mat - that split second change. _Mmm..._ (did I just do that!?)
I have a skoda superb with the same 272bhp engine. After a simple remap it puts out 350bhp and 460 nm. It’s properly fast now with the 4x4 and dsg box 😊
Oh yeah, thanks vw group for such great diesel options!
as an owner of a 2011 model (albeit in diesel)
and this just seems like a cheaper cut price version,
sure it looks more moden, but there are those nice little touches that are simply missing
the little clock in in the dash, completely unneeded, but it looks lovely, and made for a nice feature for rear passengers to see the time in a stylish way (i wrote this before you got to that point)
the rear seat armrest tho, seem the worse, gone is the nice clean looking design as you find in mine (with a neat little cup holder that folds away neatly into the armrest
and in with a hard plastic void in the armrest, which frankly looks more like something you would expect in more work vehicle than a home/business machine
I’d like to see a review of the blue 2.0TDI manual r-line
If you’re doing the visor test, you should credit Yuri and Jakob 😉
Who?
@@_-Anthony-_ The Straight Pipes of course! 🤦🏻♂️😉
He did the visor test?! I didn't watch long enough. Up the Straight Pipes!
30k Maximum.
The days of car dealers making huge profits are well and truly over!
More realistic prices or failure
Yup
Just search for Passat Moose test and then you might find out that even 30k is too much for this dangerous car...
🎩👍
You clearly don’t know anything about the profits that car dealers make.
No one in the car industry makes massive profits lmao
Honestly this is the best look for a Passat for me. Suits it so well as opposed to the saloon.
I’d love to see the look of the interior in both day and night scenarios!
I've always liked the Passat estate and that R-Line trim is lovely.
Maybe a budget S4 but don’t really see it as a RS 4 alternative🤔
Really boring car
Neither. Over 70HP is quite a lot between this 2. Maybe budget A4 2.0 TFSi.
TheEryk: I recently sold an 11 plate 33K miles 2.0 TFSI S-Line Avant Quattro (a car with the worlds longest name). Far nicer than this and 211hp, but still as nippy as UK traffic would allow.
But the ‘08 - ‘12 VAG 2.0L burnt oil like an old British bike. It had to go. I now have a long distrust of the VAG two litre engines. Suffice to say I bought a Mercedes to replace it
Currently got one of these as a loan car since lockdown in R line 190 diesel form and it’s a nice car. Has tempted me but things like not having a camera as standard on such an expensive and long car is bewildering. Has also broke down twice with less than 1200 miles on the clock lol.
14:05 Is this a crossover episode with the Straight Pipes? :D
He did make an appearance in one of their livestreams a couple weeks back!
Technically you did 6 cool features: The way the seatbelts don't snag, the adaptive cruise control, the air care thingy, the extendable sun visor, the fact you can hide the load cover AND
that there's a spare wheel.
it's a budget s6 with those exhaust pipes
Thank you for including l/100km in the spec sheet
"Seriously, you get carried over in a passat?"
Malaysian passat owner: *sweating*
Kereta tauke ma, mesti ada driver lorrrr xD
@AdlanSyahin orang malaysia mana suka keta wagon
@AdlanSyahin tak kot, cakap pasal passat in general je hahaha
@AdlanSyahin wagon memang takkan masuk malaysia
Malaysia sekarang tak berapa laku wagon/estate, tapi Passat ni boleh jadi game changer.
Ada ruang ada pickup siap boleh layan corner.
Bayangkan ia siap pasang box bumbung dengan styling R-line 😋,
Time cuti bawa pergi jalan2 best.
Nice car, I so wish we got this exact model in the USA.
1:46 "Sounds to much like a laxetive." Haha 😂
2:08 Didn't know Matt impersonating a German QC was just what I needed. 📐🧐... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Let's be honest... The quality inside and outside is absolute great. Cmon its a 🇩🇪 car.
Biggest letdown for this facelift? The dash clock....
That's my dream estate car.
I love estate cars
We can't get estates hardly at all anymore in USA 😭
I’ve got this but in lapiz blue and the Verona alloys - it’s a lovely thing and better for not having the grey paint and black wheels. Sadly I’ve only got the 1.5 tsi petrol but it’s decent enough and looks the part
The fact that I can hold all these things without wasting an inch of cargo space in the boot is amazing.
Agree, yet it is a disappointment that VW no longer sells diesel in the USA since the 2015 model year.
Have a 2.0 tdi model that I did over 900 miles on one tank of fuel from Poland to UK.
My dad wants to get it. He likes to be comfy and to be relaxed, but sometimes he just wants do to a quick pull just for the fun :) I suggested this car to him, and he just agreed with me.
Love the Passat!
Me to looks very cool and estate is better than the sedans
Is a German car
20 years ago I tested a Passat Estate for possible use as a lease car. My God. It was sooooooo BOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIINNNNGG!
03:24 Mat: "There isn't too much of a huge hump"
*Proceeds to show us a hump bigger than that of a camel* 🐫
This is why I don't really believe his reviews. Always finds excuses for VAG cars yet smashes other brands for the smallest things.
That hump really is absolutely huge even if it's not very wide. I think he's a bit of a fanboy.
@@xIcarus227 i think he meant is not wide, cause who cares about that thing's height when getting 3 people in the back, not the crotch is affected but the feet cause you don't have space not to touch other guys feet
@@Adiadi-uj3ud he's nagged about tall humps before, and his argument was that getting into the middle seat is difficult. I don't remember the specific reviews, but he did.
It's not avoidable in a car front engined with the ability for rearward power
@@xIcarus227 I do trust his reviews but sometimes they are a bit harsh on some brands!
2:08 - "making zure zat zay are just precise, ja"
18 minutes and no memes!!! I love the good, old format :D
I own a Mk7 R and I have to say I really enjoyed this video, I'd buy this car after watching this video, good job.
Simple, elegant and i love it!
Dam Thats a beautifull car! Totally getting one for me and my mum!
Nice... but I’ll take a Superb Sportline thanks- looks a lot better in that colour!
And have a real end exhaust pipe 😉
Well done Matt, appreciate you not including any silly memes. This video was significantly more enjoyable to watch
2:10 shut up Matt 😂
Greetings from Frankfurt
Great review as always, So which would you pick the VW Passat RLine Wagon or the Arteon RLine Shooting Brake as both are on my short list..
Love the passat! I was looking for one for ages until I found a very well priced Subaru Levorg Spec B.
I prefer the sporty look of the Levorg, but the transmission is boring and built like glass
I'm getting my new Corolla Touring hybrid in 1 week with the exact paint color. I'm really glad, that I picked this color!
Any my car will last a min of 300k miles.
This Passat... with half I would be optimistic.
But I have to say... nice design and all.. until it breaks.
Scotty?
Am i the only 1 that likes the way the R line seats look with the carbon pattern
there is actually a dedicated groove to fit the load cover in :)
The reason why I ask for a review is because my dad was checking one out
I like how he explains cars to bad n good using practical reasons n his very energetic n funny !
3:49 he forgot to tell about the boot opener well its sick though
almost all VW's have that, i guess thats why he didnt mention it
Pretty standard for VW
I wheezed so hard when Matt did the German impression at 2:05
I love love this car
I'm always searching for pictures of it on instagram
The same spec
Zac Design how sad
that’s fuckin depressing then isn’t it.
Car enthusiasts 20 years ago: *I want Lamborghini Diablo!!*
Car enthusiasts now: *I want a Passat R!!*
Shame what emission laws and marketing have done to us.
Surprisingly quick. It deserves a proper exhaust system
The perfect all around car for a good starting price ❤️😊 i would just buy it but I’d take the 190hp Diesel
For launch Control - press button esp off- near gear selector. 1 sec - still on race
Love the app!! Looking forward to an Indian version !!
But this is a UK based car buying and selling platform so why there will be an Indian version??
Dude they'll have to launch Indian carwow then you'll get an Indian version of the app....
09:40 sounds like Matt talking about a personal experience
13:40 Bmw has this since 1996
At 12:49 I thought Matt had jumped into my 2012 Astra. That steering wheel looks similarly dated
