9:20 It may not seem as impressive as having an umbrella _hidden inside the door,_ but having one accessible without first opening the door is simply better. Think about trying to access that umbrella from the driver seat while rain is pouring down. You can't just crack the door ajar and grab it unless you also fully open the window. You have to open the door to the rain, step into the rain, grab the umbrella, close the door, then open the umbrella. You'll be wet before you even touch the umbrella. If the umbrella is inside, you can start opening it before you open the door, push it up outside as you open the door farther, and have it fully open before you even step out of the car. (This has the added benefit of keeping water off the door switches if there are any.)

You drive up and plug it in. No need to waste time going to a gas station and pumping gas, and paying for it. We are a family with 2 EVs (no gas cars for almost 4 years) and have enjoyed every second of it. No maintenance, no gas, smooth and quiet ride, fantastic acceleration... EVs are not for everyone, but they are much better than gas cars for a lot of people, so it would be more objective and fair if Matt talked about that, instead of just criticizing EVs. I currently have a 2023 BMW 320d now they only offer it as a 320i 330e and a 340i no diesel option.
320i is not a great engine 330e is no benefit to me and 340i too expensive
@@mikeyboy200606UK people are brainwashed by media against diesel, British mentality, in Europe you can get it with a classic 2.0 TDI
If and when this car flops vw will say that estate cars are dead, completely ignoring the fact that people who buy estate cars want a proper diesel engine
Everything is better than an SUV. I don't understand their popularity. I have more space in my hatchback than my friend has in his Qashqai.
I think its because most people have no interest in cars and think being high up in a box is safer. Also the early adopters deluded themselves into thinking they're the cool outdoorsy type since they go on a walk in the forest every boxing day and need a car thats marketed as such, even if its the last choice for most actual oudoorsy people.
Vw are knobs for not giving knobs and buttons, but a screen instead.
Unfortunately you can replace Vw with pretty much all manufacturers now.
Japanese cars have them
@@Lemingtona-x5g They mostly all have CVT transmissions too.
I absolutely love screens. I have them in my brilliant BMW IX and 330ix both 2023 so only screens and they are amazing.
@@spk8989pl Screens aren't inherently bad. It's when key features are "only" available via screen that it's bad (e.g. heated seats, air-con/heating, and other things you use on almost every trip). My 2019 car has a touchscreen, which I have no problem with, but it's the fact that all my daily features are available via buttons that is the important point. I don't need to look away from the road more than a fraction of a second to change any of these things.
Many years ago, I actually found a colleague living in his 1988 VW Passat estate at the bottom of my road. His wife had indeed chucked him out. I pretended I hadn't realised he was sleeping in his car as I would have felt compelled to let him sleep or at least shower at my house.😧
They should’ve made saloons too 🥲
Is the Arteon gone? That would be like a saloon. What about Coupe? Cabriolet? Roadster? Baja Edition? W8?
The estate trumps a saloon
Absolutely agree 👍
You can get Superb bc they are the exact car
Saloons always look nicer
My golf 7,5 has that exact massage system, they haven't even changed the button xD
If only VW would make an actual R Version of this car with all the extras. Would be a contender out of those all the SUVs but still practical.
Nice car but I’d just go for the Skoda superb for the climate knobs. When will manufacturers learn but give VW their due for the quality and space.
of course, I always choose my cars by how the AC is operated.
who tf wants a tablet plastered onto dashboards anyway? just cut it out and give us back what was already working and is better and SAFER

3:29 Classic Mat 😂😂😂
thanks Matt for your honesty about electric cars.
You don't need the sporty interior...Because you have a nice Porsche Mat and some others cars...Us normal people only have 1 car and need all the sportiness we can get, lol
sportiness in a family estate car? I think majority of estate buyers, buy them for their practicality and reliability, not cause of sportiness
@@fug33 You should try out an M or AMG wagon some time. They are amazing.
Skoda Superb has the better interior
Nope sat in both but skoda is still for me thanks to sedan/hatchback
no no
2:29 Yes, please! And some buttons. These ugly stupid screens.
Bit of a Rik Mayall moment from Matt
Sometimes these reviews are alright, but sometimes they spend to much time with non problematic things.. You can turn the assistants off via the stearing wheel, and if it's like before, it's only lanekeeping assist that's on by default..
And the voice assist might go on every 1000km of driving, so not really an issue, and mostly just ask one question and then it goes away
One thing I can get onboard with on new cars is the steering column mounted gear shifter. It just makes so much more sense. Even more so when compared to the turning knob in the centre console of many newer cars.
The only thing i dont like about new cars is the screens they are so bad and laggy ok have screen for fun stuff but to put buttons that the car needs in to the laggy device is bad
This over fugly SUV's any day.........much better ride, handling and space too!
LOL at the Apline comment in relation to weight... they've announced the A290 (full electric hatchback)
Also saying the lightweight Apline has the fluidity of a Rolls Royce - the well known purveyor of lightweight cars....err ok
It's so much like a Skoda that there is no longer any excuse to not buy the Skoda. I have the Octavia and it is almost exactly the same as this one.

Just buy the Škoda superb,it's way cheaper and it's better
Sporty , with 1.5L engine 😂😂😂. The world goes crazy 😂😂😂😂
If you have a good turbo and you are able to squeeze out every drop of power out of it, then it can be sporty. Mind you, the new Honda Civic Si puts out 200hp from a turbocharged 1.5l engine.

The full design sunroof takes 90% of the rating marks! Superb
Skoda Superb 206 all day every day
Nearly 50k for a Passat?! Not in a million years. What a joke.
"I'd rather have some knobs please. Knobs!" Amen to that. Such a small thing but they make the world of difference. At least Skoda seem to be listening to what buyers want here. Considering it's the same platform and the Skoda is cheaper I'd be heavily leaning towards a Skoda over the Passat.
Always found the build and road noise suppression a tad better on the VW Passat throughout the previous generation!!

Matt is starting to unfairly criticize EVs, which is pathetic and biased journalism.
- He uses the words "super heavy" for EVs. Tesla 3 is lighter or comparable to most performance sedans.
- He complains that it's too hard to deal with an EV. It's actually much easier than gas cars if you own a home.
Not a fair or useful journalism.
Matt has finally seen sense with regard to EV. The consumer has spoken and at last Matt agrees with us.
"He complains that it's too hard to deal with an EV. It's actually much easier than gas cars if you own a home" - wow... rethink what you just typed.
