I call bs. Own several buildings with 30 plus year old roofs with no issues. Shingles are garbage. Get sold a 25 year shingle roof and it fails at year 15.

I’ve pulled metal back that was put directly over shingles ( been on for 20+years) it looked perfect on the bottom and top. You sir are a b.s. salesman !

  • @Sith_dude

I've had my metal roof for 12 years and not 1 screw has backed out. No leaks also.

Installed an exposed screw metal roof on my house when I built it in 1989. My neighbor across the street was a metal roofer that owned a local shop here in town. We soldered in a "thimble" for every roof penetration and I have put new screws on the entire roof (one size larger than original) one time after about 20 years. Have never had a leak and it's still going strong today after 34 years. Would loved to have installed a standing seam roof but could not afford it at the time. I've seen so many messed up roofing jobs - asphalt shingles as well as metal. Lets not forget the temp difference that attic insulation is fighting - about 10 - 20 deg less with metal (check out Matt Risingers latest Metal vs Asphalt roofs) and resistance to hail storm damage. It comes down to economics, personal choice and craftsmanship not chosen material and your video demonstrates a severe lack of credibility and open-mindedness. But hey, at least these comments will help your interaction statistics with UA-cam.

I’ll never put on shingles again

More and more people in Florida are going with metal roofs because they can hold up far better in a hurricane, shingle roofs not so much. We went with a metal roof and will never again do a shingle roof, we live in southwest Florida. Where I live we had hurricane force winds for several hours as Ian sat off the coast of Lee County battering us. All the exposed fastener roofs around us survived with no damage. Shingle roofs was a different story.

My metal roof with additions & gables has been on for 17 years....no water leakage. I check for that every year. I also check the screws every few years....takes forever. Not one screw has backed out that is clearly visible....not one. The color has held and it looks great. My parents have the identical roof....20 years, still perfect. My neighbor put his metal roof on in 1992....as of today.....still going strong, no leaks, no screw issues. I helped him check this week. maybe because here in

Metal moves on extreme temps and can unwind screws. Pre drill the screw holes and the screws stay put if the roof deck is sound and holds a screw well. Metal roofs are the way to go up here along the Canadian border and they can last for decades without problems.

  • @funone8716

My shop roof was installed 8 years ago. I check the screws every fall before winter. NOT ONE SCREW has 'backed out' or moved yet. This video is a scare-scam against metal roofing.

  • @corey7348

i asked my buddy if he minded if i took a look at his metal roof cause i been on the fence after seeing this video and i found not one issue with it other then 1 boot looked like might of needed silicone. im guessing its gonna depend alot on who does the actual job. his roof is 30 years old

  • @emiliovillarreal2957

I have been installing metal roofs for 20 years I will always take a metal roof over shingles they last double I have even taken metal roofs that are 100 years old you will never find shingles 100 years old

A screw enters wood and pulls the fiber "up". Wood fiber, being a "natural" product will always try to go back to neutral, thus pulling a screw "down", or tighter. A nail as it penetrates the lumber will "push" the fiber down. As the wood fiber is a "natural" product it will always work toward neutral, thus pushing the nail "up", and exposing the material below the head. The biggest mistake I have seen is the screws being installed too tight, thus squishing out the rubber grommet below the screw head. I have been a building contractor about 40 years and simply prefer a metal roof over any other roofing material. They will last much longer than comp roofs and are much less costly than a good shake roof. Just my educated opinion.

  • @Gomoboo

My Aluminum Shake Roofing was installed over 23 years ago. Screws? No the interlocking panels were affixed using stainless steel nails. Has a special coating that reflects most IR so it's a lot cooler. Only issue was with the crowns - the special coating began to peel in several places. After the installer took some samples to send back to the manufacturer (tested to ensure I hadn't used any unauthorized cleaning products). The manufacturer sent replacement crowns, and my original installer removed the faulty ones with the new ones. Didn't cost me a penny. I live in tropical Hawaii. It's the labor/material costs that kill you. Most shingle roofs here last 15 years or less. I would have had to replace my roof and would be well into the lifespan on my 2nd roof. Good luck on any local businesses or other manufacturers honoring their "warranty".

Half the houses in Australia have metal roofs without any issues . The other half are concrete tile roofs .

  • @briank3564

My shingled roof that I had a professional install 4 years ago has several nails pop up pushing the shingles up in several locations. This spring I have to get on the roof myself and fix it. We do have a warranty, but guess what. The roofing company went out of business last year, how convenient!

  • @asquithmainlines699

If I come across any screws starting to back out I remove them, fill the hole with construction adhesive and then hand tighten them back in. Properly installed and some simple maintenance will still make a metal roof outlast two or three shingle jobs.

  • @jonty1959

I live in Australia, and as a previous commentator said at a rough guess half of all Australian homes have a metal roof, and the other half are tiled - I have never seen shingles used. I have never, in any of the homes I've lived in, seen a roofing screw back out, and I've never heard of it happening. In Australia metal roofs are regarded as being maintenance free, and are expected to last the life of the home, bar a catastrophic weather event - even then in areas of Australia subject to cyclones (hurricanes) building codes ensure that metal roofs are fixed strongly enough to withstand hurricane strength winds.

Or buy a real standing seam metal roof instead of crap corrugated metal and crap shingles.

  • @jerryweigl4730

I have lots of experience with metal roofs. The screws will NOT back out if they are screwed into 2 x 4s or 2 x 6s or 3/4 inch fir plywood. Screwing into thin OSB is especially asking for trouble, and I don't think thicker OSB is much better.

  • @mikemcelwain

I live up north and the thing I don't like about shingles it seems like they hold on the ice and snow more than metal roof wood during a heavy snowstorm I had a four and a half foot drifts on my roof
