Hi There, I live in Oregon, I have a house in the Portland Area, and a couple years ago I installed the Malarkey Vista, Great Product. I also have a house on the Oregon Coast, "Beach Front" . I have been contemplating which product to use. It was between OC and Malarkey Legacy. The Malarkey will be slightly more expensive, but I also believe that it will be a better product for the environment. Great video. I wish all the brands were represented but it’s clear why they were omitted. GAF and CTeed are solid brands with good products. I hope Malarkey expands their distribution
I LOVE your reviews, Dmitri. But it would be a real service if you after each one you would flash a map showing what regions (or markets) the finalist shingles are available. Thanks!
Thank you for your insight and rating information on the various roofing shingles. In the process of having to replace my roof. In 2022 we discovered a mold situation in the attic. Our insurance company would not approve the claim because they said the roof shingles were not properly installed. So we hired a mold remediation company come out to remove the mold and were told we needed to improve ventilation in the attic to prevent it from coming back. We installed 2 attic fans, also had a roofer come out and do the cut out for the ridge vent which apparently was not properly done in 2005 when we doubled the size of our home. We also had to install ventilated soffits because the ones that were installed during the construction were not the vented type. We have had an occasional leak but the use of roofing caulk in certain locations sealed the issue. Now we are having to replace the roof shingles. Have only had one company rep come out and the estimate is almost $16,000 for GAF Timberline HDZ. Honestly I do not want to use Timberline since that is what I currently have (Timberline HD 30 year warranty) and I have had issues with it. I am in NJ so not sure if I can get Malarkey out here or if it is even in my price range as we will have to pay out of pocket. I am also considering Certainteed Landmark or Grand Manor and Owens Corning Duration or Oakridge. What is your opinion? Again I don't know if any of these lines are available in my area. Most homeowners here use Timberline or Tamko and I don't want either. Wish me luck!!!
I have seen the certainteed landmark shingles in my hand ,direct compared to malarky vista samples... the certainteed, shed granules like a dog sheds hair..the vista granules are literally infused into the asphalt/polymer..they are Tightly bound and do not shed And are yards more flexible....as far as certainteed in actual use, I have a friend who has had them replaced after only just over 10 yrs... we had a hale storm, but the shingles were showing severe granule loss aside from the hale damage.
Thank you So much! Today's date is 6/23/2023. I Lived in Parker Co. (80134) The last major Hail storm over a week ago destroyed my Cedar Shake Roof, Waiting on the insurance check and searhing for a Roofing company for my new roof. Great INFO!!!!
I appreciate your time and effort. We were heavy users of GAF but have started using OC more and more. OC quality control seems more consistent on things like even lines and no small pieces of material left on the edge of some of the shingles. That small piece of material is a rhythm buster when you have to stop and rip it off. Thanks and keep on analyzing for us.
I am getting about 8 or 9 estimates last week and this week. A couple more to go but so far the Malarkey Vista is the go to for most of the companies. With O. C. duration a close 2nd.
I bought Malarkey Legacy, due to this recommendation, and others. I love it, but i got mine installed when it was too hot, and there are blemishes like roofer foot prints. If i had it to do over, i would have did it when the roof was cooler.I would have paid whatever, to have them work till noon or so. Im hoping the Oklahoma summer heat smooths it out. Otherwise, i have to do some repairs. I will love that rubber mix when the hail comes, but its stressing me right now.
I’m a Texas roofing contractor. It will not get better. For what it’s worth it is normally simply a cosmetic issue. We recommend to customers not to install in summer months for that reason. If you have a roofer replace scarred shingles do it in cooler time of year. These products seal so well it’s hard to effectively make repairs without making it worse.
It is interesting to see how popular shingles are in the US. Here in Europe they are very popular for garden sheds. However, for houses we still use roof tiles. They last about 40 to 50 years. However, I can imagine that of you are in a tornado area, you dont want concrete roof tiles flying around.
Exactly. Tiles are great but the US East coast gets hurricanes, some of middle America gets tornadoes, and West coast gets earthquakes. Materials used are picked accordingly.
Well I have my bullet proof vest on : I live in Los Angeles county and CODE here wants not only title 24 , it has to be Timberline HDZ RS+ the only color that matches the front and garage is Stone Gray Plus. Lowes and Homedepot do not show it on their web sites , so my headaches begin .
Do you have any recommendations for the best shingle and underlayment products for noise reduction through the roof? (Think airplane flyovers.) My understanding is that this is a situation in which thicker and heavier materials are going to perform better. -Heavy architectural asphalt shingles with plenty of overlap. On underlayment, I see it as plausible that a 30 lb Felt underlayment could be best for noise reduction, but there are thicker, heavier synthetic underlayments, too... I'm in the Seattle area so water is a real problem, which makes me think felt is a bad choice, but are there other underlayment products that should be good at reducing noise?
I have an interesting background on this. Used to work in Supply and worked for IKO. I still use IKO and have sold all the other brands on Supply side. Now that I’m on roofing side I will say the following without bias: GAF and Tamko are miserable. OC is a good product but sometimes difficult, all depends on rep for your territory. Certainteed, love the product when it goes right but is very inconsistent and mainly only use on full system when large amounts flintlastic are used. I hated selling against Atlas Pinnacle Pristine when with IKO and it’s my number 2 shingle behind IKO Dynasty. #opinion #nomalarkyinSE. On atlas: why farm out to 3m?
I just got into the market because of home owners ins because of the age of the roof which was installed in 06 and it was gaf shingles but a lot of these vendors I've never heard of maybe because i live in Tampa bay and it's hard to make a decision on product also a contractor you just don't know and I've looked up all the contractors online and researched them to the best of my ability.
In western idaho where we dont get alot of hail compared to other states. We use duration because we do get alot of high winds and duration does phenomenal in high winds. But if i was in a state where there is alot of hail id go with flex without hesitation
The bundle end closed does not keep the water out one of the reasons I dislike the Atlas packaging is that the end of the package is closed and it traps the water inside the bundle so like in the winter time, a lot of the bundles will be frozen together because the water can’t drain out and it becomes a problem when installing you can’t get the shingles apart
Im looking at Atlas vs OC. Am i missing something? From what from what i read they rated the same with wind etc. I was also told they also have the same sure nail stuff but maybe not a strip that says it. Why did you rate Atlas higher but want to OC on your house? Just cuz its 2" wider?
It's probably okay that IKO Dynasty packages are open on both sides. When stored outdoors, condensation can form inside due to temperature changes. Therefore, with open ends, the product gets ventilated, while the package is sealed the condensation stays inside. In fact, the packages are stored in a horizontal position, and the shingles are tightly packed, so I don't think water gets inside deeply. It is just my opinion.
I recently had OC duration installed on my home....unfortunately I see alot of blemishes from roofer footprints. I was out of town when the roofer decided to start of which was the hottest day of the week. Would still be ok for years to come?
First off I am NOT a roofing contractor. I took a roofing job in Louisiana back in 1980 and was schooled by the owner of the company. In 1996 I needed to replace the roof on my house in Tacoma Washington. I purchased Owen's Corning 20 year 3 tab shingles maybe it was 25 year, to long ago to be sure. I've never had a leak and I've had 60 mph winds and never lost a shingle. My roof was damaged by a dump truck that raised one side of my roof off my house a few years ago while the contractor was putting in a concrete driveway. Out of concern for a possible leak I had it tarped. Wouldn't you know it the only place it leaked was where they put the nails in to hold the tarp down. I've been busy, lazy and cheap and have not fixed the roof just retarped it myself twice over the last 11 years. Well..this year I'm repairing my roof and will re shingle it. I will also be putting new sheathing over it as the old roof is in 6 inch T&G planks and been there since 1954. The wood has contracted so there are gaps between boards and in a couple of places I had to cut some areas out and put 3/4 inch plywood. I shingled it with the gaps 28 years ago but I'll sheath it this time. My plan is to use 15/32" plywood. I'm still debating shingle brand. Its between Malarkey, Owen's Corning, and Certaineed.
The biggest thing to me is service behind the shingles. I had an approved warranty claim for Malarkey that we repaired 10 months ago. Still haven't been paid and continuously receiving the runaround. I have literally signed the same papers 3 times and still nothing
Just found your channel, Love it! Would like to see more on Pacific Northwest (wet) environments, and more recommendations farther up north of Portland, Oregon (Southern WA State here). Thanks!
Hello, Question for you. I installed class 4 shingles on my roof but the ridge caps and hips a non rated shingle was used called RizerRidge. I was told it's more durable than any standard shingle and not to worry. What are your thoughts on this? I do get hail sometimes here in TX. Thanks
You should start looking into copper content in the shingles. They all look great outta the wrapper - but how will they look after being installed for 5 years? 10 years?
I totally agree. I live in SE Texas 45 miles off the Gulf of Mexico. There's plenty of humidity that sets up mold/mildew on roofs. Along with that is the potential of hurricanes and hail. The county I live in isn't windstorm certified by insurance companies although should be taken in consideration. It would be nice to have recommendations of shingles for this region along the Gulf of Mexico for the above mentioned conditions.
Every year we look forward to the shingle guide. We strive to bring the best products and options to our clients and this guide has been a regular part or our sales process. The reason it has been powerful is because it has been a true, first hand test of the shingles, in an honest and transparent way, with all parties invited to the table. We have always appreciated Dmitry and Roofing Insights efforts into making the industry better, and have modeled a lot of our business on your recommendations and advice.... However I am disappointed in this years guide. I feel that in past years, your guide has been transparent and contractor/consumer focused. This year, the guide is vague, and feels more like a product and installer pitch or promotion than a true test of the shingles on the market. Based on the past work we have seen from Roofing Insights, I would like to believe that the due diligence was done but I believe Roofing Insights would agree, that the proof is in the pudding. We got to see none of the testing, or know any of the criteria/benchmarks. If Tamco was garbage, why didn't we see why? In the past, contractors and manufacturers have been invited to the testing to ensure that it was fair and impartial. Did this happen this year? If so, why didn't we see it? Where is GAF? I don't install it, but it's one of the most popular brands on the market... why was it excluded? If it was excluded because it didn't meet the minimum standard, shouldn't we know this? If you didn't include them because they told you not to, shouldn't this be in the guide? Hopefully this years guide was an honest assessment, but I will not be able to use this years guide as a part of our process or a trustworthy resource because it's not transparent and that is who we are as a company. We use some of the top rated shingles discussed in this "assessment" and have had this guide to back our choices in the past with real world proof that our clients could see for themselves. I guess I just have to take your word for it. I'll see how that approach flies with my clients.
Completely agree with @shieldroofingsystems. Please go back to showing the actual testing going on & how you tested each shingle. Also show why certain brands were excluded (be transparent - ie GAF's legal team doesn't allow it). Also, I really like the suggestion from another viewer about showing a map of which regions each manufacturer primarily distributes their products in. That's what differentiated your YT channel versus the hundreds of other roofing comparisons. So just like you listen to roofers for feedback, I hope you read these comments & listen to your audience about feedback.
@@LT4me They could insulate themselves from lawsuits if they were objective and did not receive any sponsorship, either now or in the past. Obviously, the reviewer in this video is highly biased. He even referred to one product as junk, not because it was junk but because of a legal dispute.
hey roofing insights, just registered my own business, and I must say you live up to your name.. your videos are very insightful, they are giving me confidence . I have a question, I am in canada. do you have any videos that talk about best shingle in the heavy snow, hard winter areas. I can't find any . please let me know thanks.
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB For me, there was no price difference. My out of pocket remained the same. My roofing contracting company who worked with me all along to submit and process the claim with the homeowner insurance, did tell me that their margin was reduced when they switched from GAF to Malarkey but they will do it. So I am very pleased with their services up to now. Also, this was stated in the contract that my roofing contactor will do all what Malarkey requires to backup the warranty to be effective. So all of Malarkey's requirements will be met.
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB This was the name and model of the originally proposed shinglers "GAF TImberline", and I didn't care much for it, so I called it "something".
It’s good. Maybe keep the testing to every other year or more or if new product or tech hits the market worth testing against the leaders. Just had my roof done with OC Duration in Western WA. I researched a lot and your videos help with that process. Thank you!
Prefer the Old format with extensive testing done in each catagory and ratings spelled out as a result..... Love ur advice brother but miss the high amount of detail that was in the older format..hope you bring it back
Hi, I started watching this channel recently. I am in the market for replacing my roof and wanted to ask for recommendations for better brands of shingles for my Houston area home. Is it worth paying extra for class 4-rated shingles for Houston?
OC Duration. Best bang for the buck. Seals better then any shingle on the market. Sure nail strip is awesome. Class 4 I go with OC FLEX. Super wind resistant. Another really good proven class 4 shingle is Malarkey Legacy. Just don’t seal as well as OC for high wind areas. IKO granules are loose. I’m in Canada we don’t see Atlas here. Can’t say. My stay away shingles are BP and GAF.
The only reason GAF shingles exists today is due to their purchase of Elk nearly 20 years ago. I managed a roofing supply yard in central California from 2002 to 2014 our most successful line had been the Elk and Malarkey lines. By 2006 , after the GAF change and offering other lines such as Certainteed, Iko and feedback from other yards in the corporation I worked for, I decided to only supply one brand of shingle, Malarkey. I received fantastic support from the roofing contractors , no one felt limited in their offerings, obviously buying power allowed all of us to benefit, availability was never an issue during any of the early decades asphalt shortages. We took a unique marketing approach that served us all very well during the downturn of 06 thru 09. Home owners would come by to inquire regarding products and when asked my opinion, I would show them my stock, affirming that we belived so strongly in its quality that we would not support another brand. Saying no to other lines was actually very easy, especially as time went by. Malarkey brand shingles were very well designed, manufactured and supported, in that period, more advanced in their design and function. I would like to add that Malarkey was if I am remembering correctly, the last to market their shingles under the " lifetime" warranty con job that occurred in the 10s. Also the 3 bundle math was, is, a joke that continues apparently to this day. 4 bundles per square is simply more honest. Very good presentation by you. Thank you.
@@maxbrinker9333 Ive heard the same regarding certainteed from almost every roofer... even those who used to use that brand, some now refuse to bother with it becuz of the known issues....granule loss, lack of adhesion, impact damages
I'm not actually sure though this is just a guess but I do know when I open a sealed certainteed bundle. They they look like they have been deteriorating for ten years already
Wow I wish you would just come to idaho and do my roof. I don’t even know where to start. Is covering by insurance because of the weather damage but this is a lot🤦🏻♀️
In the North Alabama market, we use IKO Dynasty/Nordic and highly recommend it over other brands as we have use several in the past! We also have similar pricing as the Atlanta market and are able to offer class 4 roofs at very great rate!
Malarky stopped reporting their shingle weight on the tech data sheet in 2018-19, the highlander used to be 245lb/sq. Now it’s 205. Funny how all the shingle maker have an entry level shingle at 205#/sq. And the all raise prices simultaneously and aggressively while asphalt is dropping. Federal Trade Commission needs to investigate for price fixing.
Certainteed starts at 220 pounds a square. Landmark Pro are at 250 a square. Always the same weight. Atlas is building brand and they will change weight as well. Certainteed been around since 1905 and always the best warranties.
Another comment said Certainteed sheds like a dog. I was watching another video & he said the same basically. I was going to use Certainteed but will probably change to Malarkey (not sure which type) or Owens Corning Duration. More videos to watch.
I have received estimates for what I perceive is the same job on the same roof ranging from $35,000 all the way to $75,000. And it makes me wonder what’s going on. Anyone else experienced this?
You're not alone. I got 3 -> 45K 60K & 80K for 5000sq ft flat supermarket roof. Did it myself, and hired a few guys for help. It cost me $25K total. BTW it was in 2005
Thank you sir for keeping it real.. I'm going through the process now getting a replacement in the Atlanta GA market... You have help me tremendously and I want too say thanks.....
What about when it como to time to put a manufacturing direct claim? Here in Louisiana thy refuse to pay warranty claim with a blister biger the 1/2”spot showing fiberglass
I've done 2 Million in malarkey in the past year and I'm still waiting for a check from my last claim that was started March 2021. Excuse after excuse. I've heard the check is in the mail so many times. And it's only for $2900... Everytime I see the rep he just wants to tell me about the trip he wants to take me on to the factory to get drunk and go to strip clubs but won't get the warranty done. Maybe it's because we are in Canada and they don't care but I'd highly recommend using someone else
Next year please consider Atlas Pinnacle IMPACT. Much cheaper than StormMaster and still Class 4. The Pinnacle Pristine is also a Class 3 and they are less expensive than some of the bigger brands. Thanks for the great videos.
First, I want to thank you for ALL the info. I have begun my trip dow the roofing rabbit hole and you have offered SO much invaluable info. I just contacted a business from your directory and one of the first things out of their mouth pertianed to insurance. I found that unsettling. Please correct me if I am wrong but I automatically jump to an assumption that their price will be linked to out of pocket v. insurance and I don't like it. Am I wrong for questioning this? Also, they are having a sales rep contact me to set up an appointment for a roof check. I did ask if the person assessing the damage was an actual roofer and yes, he is. I then asked if the person doing the inspection would be the one to whom I would address all questions pertaining to shingle performance when choosing a new shingle. They said I would need to talk to the customer service rep... who has never nailed down a shingle in his life. Should I be alarmed or dissuaded by this?
In my state (Florida) price definitely is linked to whether you are out of pocket or insurance. Now I understand it can be a pain and time consuming to deal with insurance companies and that must be compensated, but I believe many roofers in my area charge our insurance companies FAR more than what is necessary to reimburse the time cost of that additional hassle. One of the roofers I recently got a repair quote from aggressively pushed for my filing an insurance claim and wouldn't even tell me what my out of pocket cost for total re-roof would be. So IMO, he's hiding something.
Dmitry I had a question. You give Atlas credit for less waste but I thought there coverage was 98 and change vs IKO at 100.05 and Malarkey at 100.33. You just take the length of the shingle x the exposure x the number of shingles on a square and divide by 144.
I am confused. I watched an older video to look for information on what to get for my roof replacement, and CertainTeed was raved about. But in this video that brand is not even mentioned??? Are they really so bad now after a couple of years that they don't even make the list?
Can Anyone elaborate on the blister defects of malarky shingles...I was gun ho as far as thinking these were The Best out there, then talked with a roofer who really liked them but recommended Not using them in my area which has temps 100-115 during summers.. he said same thing, that he has seen blistering due to the heat.. My other question is regarding certainteed granule loss and issues with their aghesive not properly adhering..... My last choice was GAF, but man!< these shingles feel like garbage compared to the other 2...thin, brittle, crack easily ... warranty seems great though... Im at a loss , there seems issues with almost all choices...
I had a roofer tell me the same thing. He was high on them overall, but noted this specific issue (also in TX). That makes me nervous having a new facility. I like OC, but I don't think their variation works with my brick variation and I'm limited by HOA too.
@@Rezfin Hi brother, thanks for reply! I am being pressed by our insurance company to get shingles on the roof.. certainteed, Gaf are the most commonly used in my area.. I hear about issues with certainteed granule loss and lack of adhesion from almost every roofer Ive spoken with.. not keen on GAF ..Ive dismissed malarkey ,reluctantly, and this has left me considering owens corning duration... I may just go with these as I'm fed up with the amount of issues that ive found with the other brands...no shingle is perfect but really, there ought to be a Consistancy amongst those who have experience and have tried these brands.. Reviewers and homeowners both will tell you conflicting opinions regards shingles which really leaves us to make our best choice...
I'm surprised Certainteed didn't make your list. Very informative though. Do you look at future durability and blistering as a metric when rating your shingles?
We suffered roof damage from Hurricane Idalia in Northern Florida. Our insurance company has already approved replacing the roof on our house, our shop and our attached metal carport. All of the bids we have been receiving from roofers in our area have been offering only Tamako, Owen's Corning and GAF. We had already decided that we do not want Tamako shingles. We are leaning towards either Owen's Corning Duration or GAF Timberline HDZ, installed by one of their Elite contractors so we would get all the GAF warranties. Can you explain why you left GAF out of your 2023 ratings? From what I understand, their TImberline Hdz shingles are widely used and very popular, for many reasons. Having never gone through something like this before, and being complete novices about replacing roofs, we are trying to educate ourselves on the best choices. The amount of information is overwhelming and confusing! If you could explain why you left GAF Timberline HDZ out of your ratings, I think that would be very useful information for us. Thank you so much!

Malarkey Highlander or OC Duration best bang for your buck. If I had a nice house and was rich I would go OC Flex.
Agreed.
I have GAF Class 4 Designer Shingles and love it. Saved $700 per year on my HO Insurance.
Great to see how high you ranked malarkey. We recently switched from another product to malarkey
What type of shingles would you recommend for south Florida
In western idaho where we dont get alot of hail compared to other states. We use duration because we do get alot of high winds and duration does phenomenal in high winds. But if i was in a state where there is alot of hail id go with flex without hesitation
I wish Malarkey was in our market!
Thank you for the informative video. What do you think of GAF products? including the solar panels that are integrated into the shingles. Thanks.
I recently had OC duration installed on my home....unfortunately I see alot of blemishes from roofer footprints. I was out of town when the roofer decided to start of which was the hottest day of the week. Would still be ok for years to come?
We live in Los Angeles, any one used CertainTeed presidential tl shingles? Can you please review this brand.
First time putting a roof on a home. Thanks for the information.
The biggest thing to me is service behind the shingles. I had an approved warranty claim for Malarkey that we repaired 10 months ago. Still haven't been paid and continuously receiving the runaround. I have literally signed the same papers 3 times and still nothing
So, which company has the best service ??
@@goosecouple for us here Certainteed has been best for warranties followed closely by Iko.
Just found your channel, Love it! Would like to see more on Pacific Northwest (wet) environments, and more recommendations farther up north of Portland, Oregon (Southern WA State here). Thanks!
Also, do you address Ridge Ventilation systems? We currently don't have any ventilation except side vents under the eves. TY
Hello,
Question for you.
Hi I have been watching your UA-cam channel you make a nice video it's awesome
Every year we look forward to the shingle guide. We strive to bring the best products and options to our clients and this guide has been a regular part or our sales process. The reason it has been powerful is because it has been a true, first hand test of the shingles, in an honest and transparent way, with all parties invited to the table. We have always appreciated Dmitry and Roofing Insights efforts into making the industry better, and have modeled a lot of our business on your recommendations and advice.... However
I am disappointed in this years guide.
Agreed but the Legal teams of GAF and Certainteed are threatening or suing Roofing Insights. That makes it hard to do reviews.
@@LT4me They could insulate themselves from lawsuits if they were objective and did not receive any sponsorship, either now or in the past. Obviously, the reviewer in this video is highly biased. He even referred to one product as junk, not because it was junk but because of a legal dispute.
Agree
I was just quotes Malarkey shingles...I keep hearing good stuff about them.
hey roofing insights,
just registered my own business, and I must say you live up to your name.. your videos are very insightful, they are giving me confidence . I have a question, I am in canada. do you have any videos that talk about best shingle in the heavy snow, hard winter areas. I can't find any . please let me know thanks.
Looking for your recommendation on cool roof shingles that are still priced close to regular shingles? Looking for my HOA in TN.
I had roof replaced with malarkey in California. I recommend it. Thanks.
Which type of Malarkey did you choose? I'm in So. Cal
I believe Highlander NEX.
*My roofer was gonna install GAF Timberline or something, and I had him switch to Malarkey Vista. Lets see how it turns out.*
What was the price difference? And what realllllll warranty coverage. Then for the best warranty coverage does malarkey require
What does TIMBERLINE OR SOMETHING EVEN MEAN
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB
For me, there was no price difference.
@@DaVe-iSnOtHoMe.MaN.LemmingsWeB
This was the name and model of the originally proposed shinglers
"GAF TImberline", and I didn't care much for it, so I called it "something".
Comment below what you think about new format!
From what I've been able to figure out, Class 4 is a good idea for hail prone areas and I'm pretty sure Houston is one of those.
Curious why if malarkey is your favorite why it’s not on-your roof instead of oc duration ?
Because he doesn't need to replace his roof yet 20years still going strong
OC Duration. Best bang for the buck. Seals better then any shingle on the market. Sure nail strip is awesome.
Class 4 I go with OC FLEX. Super wind resistant.
Another really good proven class 4 shingle is Malarkey Legacy. Just don’t seal as well as OC for high wind areas.
IKO granules are loose.
I’m in Canada we don’t see Atlas here. Can’t say.
My stay away shingles are BP and GAF.
Hi - can you recommend a roofer in Ottawa? 4.2K squ ft roof
Thank you.
Thank you for your comment.
I'm in Southern California, which Malarkey tile do you recommend? I just starting my research & hope I can get this shingle here.
Thoughts on GAF? Thank you
I may have missed it, but what about GAF shingles?
I downloaded the app. I don't plan on getting my roof replace hopefully another minimum 3 yrs.
Thanks for the video! What are your thoughts regarding warranties comparison? Malarkey 10yrs, but CO offers 50 years
Malarky is 15
What are your thoughts on Euroshield Rubber Roofing?
You should add Certainteed Landmark.
Yup, in my area Landmarks are the best to work with.
Ive seen these shingles after a hail storm. Hail cuts threw these like butter. Malarkey is significantly better and its the same price😊
Wow I’ve had nothing but issues with certenteed
@@maxbrinker9333 Ive heard the same regarding certainteed from almost every roofer... even those who used to use that brand, some now refuse to bother with it becuz of the known issues....granule loss, lack of adhesion, impact damages
@@TannerManteufel malarkey vista is one Tough shingle!
What do you recommend for a NC roof prone to algae/mold/mildew due to tree and shade cover?
I actually learned something from this video. Good job.
Liked and subscribed. How long do SBS shingles like the Malarkey Highlander last, compared to say a GAF Timberline HDZ? Thank you.
From these brands, what would be recommended to use for the midwest, living in Illinois.
class 3 doesn't get all home ins discount. Mine doesn't.
Found out Years ago, Check the nail head size, I seen air guns nails were smaller, Tom
What size do you think is best?
Please share complete list which includes lesser expensive or known brands like CertainTeed or GAF Timberline HDZ.
Can you make an SBS Class 4 shingles review including Atlas, Malarkey, IKO, Owens Cornings, CertainTeed, and GAF Timberline AS II
In the North Alabama market, we use IKO Dynasty/Nordic and highly recommend it over other brands as we have use several in the past! We also have similar pricing as the Atlanta market and are able to offer class 4 roofs at very great rate!
Dimitri, here in Southern California, we need to know about granule loss drying out and wind. Can you advise your recommendations on this?
Great video! What do you think about Pabco brand specifically Pabco Prestige? Thank you
What do you think about GAF and Certainteed? Thx
Certainteed are the best of the two, but GAF are not bad, Tamko are decent too and a little cheaper.
Great info... happy for the shingle rating by name, brand and class. Thank you!
IKO all day here!
Your OC DUration is 20 years old? Love your channel sir, but Duration wasnt available in 2003.
We have been weighting them and do know how heavy or light they are. It was part of our rating
Certainteed starts at 220 pounds a square. Landmark Pro are at 250 a square. Always the same weight. Atlas is building brand and they will change weight as well. Certainteed been around since 1905 and always the best warranties.
So living here in Houston, and working for a roofing contractor; why hasn't there been a shingle revolution in terms of reflective capability?
@stevenlengyel6651 I am also looking for cool roof shingles - any recommendations?
Which asphalt shingles hold up the best in the brutal Phoenix, AZ heat? Expert answers only please
Owen's Corning titanium white.... white no matter what .
And when the contractor says X # of vents is enough add10% more
@ least
Thanks for the video. Helpful!
I recently got a quote for GAF, I notice they didn't make your top list, why is that?
I thought IKO was contractors grade only suitable for a Dog House.
And nothing for Certainteed Landmark Pro???
They are, this guy has it ass backwards.
Another comment said Certainteed sheds like a dog. I was watching another video & he said the same basically. I was going to use Certainteed but will probably change to Malarkey (not sure which type) or Owens Corning Duration. More videos to watch.
Great video
I have received estimates for what I perceive is the same job on the same roof ranging from $35,000 all the way to $75,000. And it makes me wonder what’s going on. Anyone else experienced this?
You're not alone. I got 3 -> 45K 60K & 80K for 5000sq ft flat supermarket roof. Did it myself, and hired a few guys for help. It cost me $25K total. BTW it was in 2005
Thank you sir for keeping it real..
I'm going through the process now getting a replacement in the Atlanta GA market...
You have help me tremendously and I want too say thanks.....
He keeps it real…..real dumb!
Owens Corning refuses to even publish MSDS with component percentage ranges, as other makers still do.
Wish I had Malarky in my market of Canada. My roofer is suggesting GAF Timberline. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
How about Atlas Pro Lam?
Great informative video, I was wondering which brand would you go with for people living in Texas ??
can someone provide a list of Class 3 shingles? I didn't know there was a discount - Class 3 shingles.
You just take the length of the shingle x the exposure x the number of shingles on a square and divide by 144.
thanks for your insight
I am confused. I watched an older video to look for information on what to get for my roof replacement, and CertainTeed was raved about. But in this video that brand is not even mentioned??? Are they really so bad now after a couple of years that they don't even make the list?
I saw one from 2021 was GAF from this guy saying it was great now not even on the list?
Another killer video!
I'm surprised Certainteed didn't make your list. Very informative though. Do you look at future durability and blistering as a metric when rating your shingles?
Certainteed does not sponsor them. Money changes everything. To bad.
From what I understand, their
TImberline Hdz shingles are widely used and very popular, for many reasons.
