- An old fashioned steamer trunk treasure chest made out of scrap pallet wood. Even the pallet nails get used.
This was a lot of fun to build. Just got to decide what to put in it now.

My dad used to say "I've done so much, with so little, for so long; now, I can do practically anything with nothing at all" I love you used everything including the old nails :)
Thanks :)
Skill is always the most important tool you will ever need and must have in your toolbox.
I’ve heard that same saying before. The version I know was on the bulletin board in the operations control room at the power plant where I used to work. It went, “we the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful, with so little for so long, we now feel that we can do anything with nothing.”
What a great saying. I'm writing that down right now.
This type of steamer chest is on my bucket list. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
I've always been taught to save and scrounge scarp wood and furniture. Never on the level of your craftsmanship. Thanks for the inspiration to reach it.
Subscribed! OMG I work at a trucking company and we have sooo many trashed pallets and wood that we just dump every day. I am inspired! Thank you!
You know you're a boss when you make your own hinges out of sheet metal
The hinges... you even made the hinges... my god man. Well done indeed.
I take every nail, screw, piece wood, and many other things that I find on streets.
Like you Like to recycle everything.
I am impressed by your talents.
Now that’s a work shop I’d love
*This chest doesn't need a treasure inside, it is a treasure itself*
*GORGEOUS* 👏🤩
Thanks :)
If life gives you nothing but pallets, call this guy.
Wonder what palletade tastes like😆
@@drunkdunc8738 Like tapenade but less salty. Got fiber too, so good for you.
Alf Torp that sounds palatable 🍺
@@drunkdunc8738 I have thought about making pallet wine. Not sure it would catch on though :)
Epic UpCycling you must keep your medieval drinks cabinet stocked at all cost 👍🍷
Looks like a great blanket chest for a log cabin
Great video, he made this attainable for a average homeowner to make while still having some good looking craftsmanship.
Thanks :)
I can’t believe anyone would give this a thumbs down. I mean what more could be done to improve this video or the content. Simply the best content on this subject on UA-cam
Thanks Mark :)
After watching quite a few of this guy's videos, then, of course, subscribing to his channel, as he is brilliant, I realized that he is the living embodiment of a nugget of knowledge that life made known to me, namely "There are no shortcuts. There is only the way."
I am in awe of your talent and skills. Best thing to watch on a stormy morning in Tasmania!
I took a look at both chests.
Both are so super cool.
I like the one with the copper best.
Both are very elaborate and very well made.
They will certainly last an eternity.
Thank you very much
Ваши работы безусловное доказательство того,что Бог нас гениально сконструировал!!!!!Бесконечно восхищена вашим мастерством👏👏👏👏👏!!!
Your craftsmanship is second to none. I've got three from my great grandparents when they came to America in 1890 or so. I've thought about restoring them to display in the bedrooms at the lake house. You're giving me a motivation here.
And, it's all from pallet lumber huh? I particularly am impressed with the metal working skills.
You remind me of my father. He was an industrial arts teacher and built all kinds of things.
Thanks for the comments :)
You did a fantastic job. Thanks for letting us watch.
@@carolannwagner7128 Thanks :)
Outstanding craftsmanship. A standing ovation from Italy...
Thanks Antonello :)
Every time I see you cutting them, I regret every bent nail I've ever discarded.
But that was in the before times...
Again, the patience of a saint and a true creative artist. Amazing talent. The metal work is outstanding.
Another 'heirloom quality' build. I like how nothing is wasted. Your work reminds me a bit of the saying from The Depression times: "Use it up - wear it out - make do - or do without." Truly a pleasure to watch what you can do with scrap.
Thanks Chris. I like that saying :)
Your so welcome. Keep up the excellent work 😁👍
I love the trick with the clamp and the metal ruler!
Nice work! One thing I suggest side handles need to be a section higher, so center of gravity will be under the handles.
You are my favorite artist in wood. A true joy to watch.
Thanks very much, James :)
I totally agree with you a joy to watch and one of my favorites as well. It is like the wood slats talk to him and walla a piece of art and amazing craftmanship in the end.
Me too. ❤
☺☕☕
Poor guy, how long has he been in the wood for?
Beautiful trunk. I've been watching your videos all day. Awesome. Thank you for your gift. See you at your nexted video.🙌❣️🌟🛠️📐
Thanks Ruth :)
Just when you thought….
Gorgeous piece. Thank you. I feel inspired.
Thanks Philip :)
No talking. No music. Great talent.
Thanks Michele :)
I'm amazed at every single video. You turn scrap wood into works of art.
Thanks Michael :)
👌👍🇪🇸
Thanks Ernesto :)
this gentleman is a genius, doing extraordinary things with reticlage and ideas. that is his genius and his patience
Thanks Erick :)
The odd grain in places, a couple pieces put together to make the right length, used nails, and you attention to detail makes this trunk a work of art. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Eric :)
37 minutes and 37 seconds of pure zen like relaxation, amazing work there mate 😉
Thanks very much, John :)
I thought for sure he was going to make a padlock and key for that thing...hmmm....steampunk chest with gears....
Amen... I just sat here in awe of every moment
Old school, mixed with brilliance! Kudos...
Thanks Mike :)
Made everything from scratch. Apart from a drill and a welder... all hand made. Excellent work.
Thanks Neil :)
Your work sure is EPIC, and absolutely stunning. Your wife must be so proud of you, making all these beautiful wooden pieces, and from re-cycled wood. If my hubby could do any woodworking I would be shouting from the rooftops, “look what he made” so I can imagine the pride your wife feels. It’s a beautiful chest, really beautiful, whoever it goes to, are so lucky. Xxx
Thank you, Elaine. I always love your comments :)
😄😄😄
There's me struggling to work up the effort to even go into the workshop and you're there pulling apart pallets making wonderful pieces of furniture.
Excellent work! God bless you and yours! Praying for you!
I love what you did with the different wood stains.
This is the best pallet wood project I've ever seen, great job!
Thanks Todd :)
Bravo...! I hope whoever receives this Steamer/Treasure Chest appreciates the love and care put into your project. Great detail work.
Thanks Bud :)
This is just beautiful! You are a master craftsman with such passion for what you do. Such a pleasure to watch you.
Craftsmanship beyond reproach. beautiful and awe inspiring.
Thanks :)
Love the finished product. I would suggest adding a chain to the inside lid to prevent anyone from throwing the lid back and springing the hinges.
It’s the patients and the attention to detail that gets me there’s not many, that would take the time to make their own hardware for their projects.. but that tub of nails though! That’s just epic lol! :)x
Thanks Catherine :)
Those nails kill me but whatever its a nice trunk made outa junk
What sort of patients would that be - medical, surgical, in-patients, out-patients?
Come on, I'm stumped, be more precise, hit the nail on the head.
@@4funksakes Maybe it`s not junk after all ..lol.
love building with pallets
Now that's really beautifully constructed By hand( no CNC MILL LASER CUT) build . NICELY Done.
Thanks very much :)
I work for a recycling project and go to construction sites and collect waste timber/pallets, so I have, myself, made a few things (tables, planters, shelves...) out of scrap wood, but what you do is absolutely impressive. You really take it to the next level. Craftsmanship at its very best. Hats off to you
Thanks very much :)
The best thing made from pallets I have seen so far. Great techniques and so relaxing to watch.
Thanks William :)
A true work of art from a very talented Craftsman.
one of your best builds
THATS CRAFTMMANSHIP AT THE FINEST !!!!!!!! unbelieveable job!!! your family will probabaly go to the spreme court fighting to have that !!!
The craftsmanship is beautiful, a dying art that should be in the curriculum of schools and colleges, a great video, thank you.
Thanks very much :)
@RJ Sauvé Thanks :)
i made allot of my furniture out of discarded pallets from the company that i worked at after moving out of my parents house when i was a teenager...miss those times!
you could do it again!
All I can say is WOW! Great job.. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Roger :)
I APPLAUD YOU ON YOUR WORK. i MYSELF ENJOY WOODWORKING AND NOW HOW MUCH WORK GOES INTO HAND CRAFTED STUFF. I THOUGHT I PUT A LOT INTO MY DETAIL UNTIL I SEEN YOUR VIDEO WOW YOU GET SERIOUS . WHAT A GREAT JOG ON THE TRUNK YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME INTO GETTING BACK IN TO MY SHOP AND BUILDING A TRUNK, IVE BEEN WANTING TO DO ONE FOR A LONG TIME. I HAD SPINE SURGERY ABOUT 7 YEARS AGO IN 2013 SO ITS BEEN A LONG HARD ROAD , WORKING ON A PROJECT A COUPLE HOURS A WEEK WOULD DO ME GOOD . THX AGAIN
Thanks Very much, Lorne. Great to hear the video inspired you to make your own :)
Thank you. An incredible amount of technique can be learned just by watching this Artisan at work. Take notes!
Thanks :)
This was amazing. The metal fabrication was genious. From some unused pallet wood a hundred year old trunk is created. Anyone would like to be the proud owner of this. Very well done Sir.
Thanks very much, Terry :)
Awesome as usual. Thoroughly enjoyable to watch. Please don't stop.
Thanks Jerry. More coming soon :)
Couldn't stop watching!!!! I have a new favorite channel.
Thanks Robert :)
The only, ONLY thing I would have done differently is to use either screws or through-bolts to hold the side handles on. People will tend to pick up the loaded chest by those handles, pulling the nails right out. Through-bolts, with a wooden gusset on the inside would solve that problem. Nice build. Thanks for the video. Jon
Ra 439 - You are correct it would be stronger done your way, but his way of doing it is more authentic.
I am amazed at how many pieces went into making this!
Congratulations! So well done! You put a GOLD star on RECYCLING. You are awesome!
Thanks Jeanne :)
Since I was eight years old I was carving statues for pass time and gave it away because it was not popular for girls to work with wood 50 years ago My last name says oak in French and I never changed it. I love watching the reverence you have with your work. I'm very old now and can't do wood work any more and I love to watch your work over & over again. I have statues in churches.
Your attention to detail is remarkable!! Beautifully done!!
Thanks very much :)
Reminds me of the movie Forrest Gump. Just when you think its over, a whole new chapter begins. Your skills and patients are formidable.
Thanks very much, Sam :)
I absolutely love to watch a master craftsman at his work----WELL DONE!!!
Thanks very much :)
With a name like epic upcycling I shouldnt have been surprised by the extra metal bits and such. But that was the icing on that epic cake.
Extraordinary! Thank you again
Recycling to the extreme! This was an extremely entertaining video. Thank you for your hard effort and sharing your skills with us.
Thanks:)
From the first moment I saw this video I was speechless, I can see the passion and love for wood. If I had a garage i will do the same, not this level of course😅, I love videos like this when people create art from garbage. Respect!🎩🍷
Thanks very much, Ionel :)
Nice build. Made me think back to the Luggage and Terry Pratchett. Just needs thousands of feet. :) Many thanks.
Thanks Gary. I would love to do a recreation of that chest. Maybe one day :)
You Sir are an artist of the first order!
Thank you :)
Absolutely fantastic! This is REAL crafting/fabrication. I especially liked the part @2:55 where you use the sets of small wedges and large wood to make the work of many clamps. Educational and inspirational. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it :)
I love the way this guy films his work. I was going to click to something else, but I got hooked. And liked and subscribed. But, does anyone else see the resemblance in this guy to Stephen King? They could be brothers :O
Same, It's all about the craft... interesting how it is filmed. I thought the same thing about him looking like Stephen King... too funny
Yeah, I was thinking there was a strong resemblance, myself.
Ronald Lacey
twins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Materials cost probably a few quid, Craftmanship, absolutely priceless!
Thanks Chris :)
Spectacular... Beautiful... An example of superior craftsmanship.
Thanks :)
My favorite artist!! I look in awe as I see pure junk turned into stunning beauty. I admire your skills and artistic talents. Keep giving us more art pleasure!!!
Thanks :)
I'll try my hand at one of these as a welcome to the world toy chest for my soon to be born grandson.
That is beautiful ,,,to think it was pallet wood, old nails & some flat pieces of metal to start with,,,,the talent you have amazes me ,, have a blessed day 🙂
Thanks very much :)
I have watched this 4 times now and am still fascinated at the detail.
It nice to see a master craftmans at his work the young folk can learn a few tricks from you my friend awsome Work. Look forward to the next build.
Thanks Marty. Another build coming soon :)
you know sh*t's gettin real when the sheet metal comes out
Without a doubt! Over the top when he did that.
Great. No blabbering. No stupid music. Just the sounds of talent.
Thanks Reginald :)
A lot of work that definitely paid off in the end. Great job.
Thanks :)
Amazing work, but you make it look so easy. I have some steam trunks from the 19th century that resemble yours, but now, after seeing the thought behind the design, and the amount of skillful work behind the process to manufacture them, I love them more than ever. Thank you for making us aware of the value of cratsmanship, and thank you for sharing your artistry with us. Cheers
Thanks for your comment, carriebtc :)
Once more living up to the channel name. Once again a thoroughly enjoyable video. Once again, thankyou for sharing with us.
Thanks as always, Pete :)
Fabricating your own hardware made this video for me. Icing on the cake.
Thanks :)
Beautiful steamtrunk
man o man, that is just bloody great. i always look forward to your next project.
Thanks bigfatpear. More coming soon :)
oh wow, a real treasure box, i can heare the story it tells from older times...great done, beautyful!
Thanks Walther :)
TOTAL JOY TO WATCH
It's beautiful. You are a true craftsman.👍👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Thanks Cathy :)
Absolutely awesome as always, the attention to detail, everything on a professional level, just can't say enough how amazing you work.🙂❤️❤️
Than you :)
agreed. this is an amazing show of craftsmanship
This guy: Cuts planks long ways to size using hand saw makes perfectly straight cut.
Me: Tries to cut a dowel rod with a band saw and it's crooked.
Same
Shame
Googs, There's a YT channel named DIYfferent, that I think you may also enjoy.
if your hands are growing from the ass, then there's nothing to be surprised about
look how he uses bandsaw, saws veneer like a plank
Well done. I have no idea what I'd use it for, but now I want to build one...
I just love watching you work, Amazing
This is so amazing, I can't believe how talented you are. I can't think of one person that would not be proud to have this in their home. I enjoyed watching you make the hasp and corner pieces out of metal. The choice of stains gave your masterpiece just the right amount of patena , made it look like you went back in time and found an old beautiful trunk. Thank you for sharing your skills with those of us who only wish we could do the amazing things you can. Stay healthy.👍👍
Thanks very much, Harold :)
FABULOUS, JUST STUNNING.
This build is/was amazing! What an incredible dose of detail and handcraft went into this piece. Really amazed and excited for the next one. I hope that whoever gets to call this theirs values it for the love you put into it!
Thanks very much, Andrew :)
Wow.....just wow. That truly is a work of art.
Thanks :)
Nice to see someone using proper panel pins and a plane, lovely job
