  • Is this a treasure chest, or a chest of drawers? Maybe it's both.
It's all built out of pallets and scrap wood, along with scrap metal and almost 1000 copper rivets.
If you enjoyed the lock build in this video, a longer video can be found here.

I've been a cabinetmaker for 35 years, and after watching your video, the only piece of advice I would like to impart would be that "no one likes a show off"!
Absolutely astounding! Never once in my life did I think "I'm going to hand forge my own lock and key."
Hats off to an absolute masterpiece of old school technology.

I learned making furniture as a profession, the only thing that did catch my eye was pretty much that you do a lot different if you work with an budget (mostly due to recycling used wood) and not doing dowels and mechanical connections, but that is more an matter of physolophy than skill.
Most frustrating is that one has to use so many shortcuts and prefabricated today to sell at an price people consider right (because they throw it away after five years to buy new then fashionable furniture again for cheap)

Whenever I see a new video is posted, it's a huge event for me. I wait til the kid and wife are asleep, I get snacks and a drink and settle in so I can watch it in peace with no interruptions. This is by far my most favorite channel to follow because all of the content is treasure. The design and detailing is of course very impressive, but the dedication it must take to even face performing the work is super human. Watching the first couple of minutes of just getting the original planks milled down to workable material, it's such a contrast to the amazing quality of the last few minutes, when the finishing touches are applied. In this video, every time I thought, well it's about to wrap up...nope. Here comes even more detail work, and more, and more. Hats off to you sir, your efforts are worth the wait between releases, and everything is so rewatchable. If I could wish for anything for you, it would be that you never run out of inspiration to create more of these "riveting" videos.

Why do I love this video? Let me count the ways: 1. You show just enough of each step for your viewers to understand it with no mind numbing repetitions. 2. You seamlessly mix modern machine tool work with ancient craft skills. 3. Your facility with each fabrication step is mind numbing. 4. Because the only sound is that of the work, there is no discussion of "Me, I or You should." 5. You do not promote sponsors. machines, consumables or vendors. You can do more of these!

Absolutely brilliant! The only thing I can add to the many, _many_ comments rightly complimenting the excellent craftsmanship & videography is a call to the millions of people who watch this video: _please stop buying cheap, throwaway furniture... upcycle what you can.... and support craftspeople by paying for quality!_ This video only shows a _tiny_ fraction of the time & effort that goes into hand-crafting furniture, and while it's more expensive than mass-manufactured items it's going to last a lifetime or more... even go on to be upcycled itself in the distant future! 💜🛠

As I watch your videos, I imagine you spend an equal amount of time on setting up new camera angles for each task, not to mention the editing time each video must require. I've no doubt you can make more money from uploading UA-cam videos than you could in selling each individual piece (not to devalue your product, this is just a great way to monetize the creation of a single piece). I can't imagine how many hours went into just the design! Then, how many more in the execution? It is mind-boggling. This is the kind of work the old masters of art and architecture would take on, knowing it could take years to complete. The great sculptures of the Baroque and Renaissance. The frescos of Michaelangelo, the flying machines of DaVinci. We love and enjoy them all yet today. I'm sure this piece will stand the test of time as well. I sure hope you put a maker's plate on this piece so people will have the provenance 10 generations from now! Incredible work!!

Stunning as always. I wont repeat all the good things everyone else has said so well, but I really enjoyed the POV camera heading toward the bandsaw. Real treat.

I was IN AWE watching this BEAUTIFUL CASE being built piece by piece.
I even got a little teary-eyed as it came to completion.
THIS, my friend, is a WORK OF ART !!!
I surely hope it is in a location where it can be seen...
I will be watching this video again !!
    Sincerely,
    BRUCE

Aha! So that’s what the intricate locking mechanism was for. What a beautiful chest! Love the finish, the copper detailing, and the picture frame moulding in the cutouts especially on the curved surface. Great job 👍

fabricating your own lock, key, and hinges is such a huge flex. I'm amazed. And I also got way too excited when you pulled out the sheet of copper.

Normally, I watch these videos and am amazed at the cool details while being impressed that it all started as "junk." Today? My mind is blown by how complex some of the joinery is. Kudos to you
