Is it they can't or don't want a relationship? How do they even get to the serious stage? My guy has been married twice for long periods of time. How did he even get to that stage with these two other women?
I think they want a relationship, but they cannot handle intimacy and commitment. They have trauma from childhood that makes them fear abandonment.They are fine with surface relationships like dating or friendship. It's when things become serious that they run.
The avoid I dealt with didn't say I don't know what to say they would respond with I don't know what you want me to say in a sad attempt to flip the script if they don't want to do the work you're just trying to move Upstream Without a Paddle

I was in a relationship with one for four years before he pulled away and monkey branched to another. No more. They have to want to heal their issues.
They’ll repeat this behavior until they find a person who can be single while with them
