The most fascinating aspect of Ron Pratt's videos is watching him analyze the situation. He applies his training and experience to create the safest and most expeditious solution to the problem at hand. Seeing him train his son, Ethan, and son-in-law, Talon, is heart-warming.
God keep Ron and his family/crew safe as they pull folk out of their dilemmas.

There needs to be more people like you in the world. Covering for another tow service when not even asked, willing to get dirty, (or wet in this case), and I know the list goes on and on. I want to say thank you very much for doing it right, paying it forward, and just being a nice guy. Someone get this guy a trophy!!... ...

Covering for another service gets you brownie points. two ways, first they are going to be more willing to come to your aid, and, if it's a 911 dispatch they remember who does well and who bails. That is remembered when it comes time to decide who gets the next contract.

Well done you Ron for helping the other tow truck, the sign of a true Gentleman, and a big thank you so much for giving us a look see at your area, even from the go-pro on the back of the cab, it looks to be a really nice place where you live and work, as for water problems, I always remembered what I was told as a young driver, never drive fast through water that hides the road you want to drive on, the water just might be hiding something I don't want to drive on or over, and yet another look at the interesting work done by Ron and Talon, Thank You

Midwest truck you were a sight for sore eyes. I ran a mail route for 8 years out of Cape Girardeau, and out on those county roads during the heavy snows, black ice, and the massive flooding of the region, the snow plows, never saw one, sand salt or cinders, ain't gonna happen for at least 3 days. The Flooding was just as bad to have to drive through as the black ice or thick fog. Small Izuzu box truck with regular street tires! Now, with that said, You were never dispatched to rescue and recover me and my unit, but you do go into the worst of the worst driving situations to retrieve the non drivers in driving situations. When the mail is dispatched, once it's loaded onto the truck, the directive is to go deliver the peoples mail. Go! Go until you can't go another inch.. Out in the farmlands of Chaffee, Oran, Bell City, Perkins, Advance, Delta, Chaffee. The good part was that it was all flatland, which took a little stress off from not having to worry about the next snow or ice covered hill to get over.
I really enjoy the ride alongs and revisit the roads and communities, familiar sights. Your videossort of brings me back home. I live in N.C. now. Appreciate every aspect, and quality production of your videos.
I notice you always strive to practice, and put Safety first.

I've been driving truck now over 23 years , everything from 1 Tons to my Volvo Tandem 18 Speed with Tag Trailer that also has 42ft Hiab 500 Boom , I'm sorry but common sense has always told me to stay clear of any flood water or very soft roads , this guy just asked for trouble where he decided to take a Vehicle where it should never have went . This is where a spotter is really needed in the recovery , I've done recovery on our own trucks where the newbies got them selves in places big trucks should never be to begin with . Live and learn I guess . Great professionalism on your part and certainly can tell you take pride in your work and your Vehicles you guys drive . Hello from Nova Scotia Canada

Good explanation of the lift axle, one thing missing about the self steer lift axle. You don’t want to back up with them down because it will destroy them. They are meant to steer in forward movement but not in reverse.
Fans in water are a combination to take out a radiator, they flex and pull the blades into the cooling fins if the water is deep enough.

I did a recovery in the similar conditions. I pulled a freightliner Cascadia, with a 53ft trailer and there was also a box truck stuck in the same spot lol. I used a 🛶 and paddled my way out to him. Cold water tried to cage the truck until I couldn't feel my hands. Fun times. You got it right about waiting for the water to subside.

Out here in West Texas, during our rainy season we often have heavy water running across roadways. Flash floods Etc. They like to put measuring sticks in the ground at low-lying areas with the depth indicated. So as you approach an area covered by water you can see how deep it is. They usually do this at places that regularly get flooded

  • @KCautodoctor

"Turn around - Don't drown" -- every year there are 1000's of people killed trying to drive thru flooded roadways and either drive off into a river or get swept away by rushing water. Plus it puts rescue personnel at enormous risk trying to make swift water rescues too.

Talon needs some higher boots some years back when it was night to take calls got a call for a car that got caught in a dry wash that all of sudden was not dry and washed them off the road water was coming in this older couple managed to get out but the car was a total. When my driver got and checked things out said would have to be morning as he could not touch bottom in front of the car. When you see the sigh in a wash possibly flooding they are not kidding it hit from them from out of nowhere in the dark. Ron is right it does not take much water for a car to hydroplane. Those Cobra rigs (CB radios) are an awesome piece of kit. Also illegal here in the UK without the correct licence too. Yes, we have to have a licence to operate a CB radio here in the UK

That was certainly the case at the time when the "Convoy"-type movies were at their most popular but the requirement was dropped some years later. Having said that, it is perfectly possible that an under-resourced government could have reinstated it!

Hey Mr Pratt my name is Nate. I just turned 16 and I’m starting to drive on my own. I’ve loved watching ur videos for a while now but I was wandering if u could do some videos on what might be helpful to always keep in our cars and the safest procedures if we’re ever stopped on the side of a road helping ourselves or others. Thanks for all the videos stay safe out there!

Nathan Holloway Look up police training for car positions during a pullover. At night, fallow the trucker rule of code by CDL requirments. 3 triangles 10ft, 50ft and 150ft back on 2 lane one way direction and 1triangle at 25ft infront and 2 one at 50ft and other 100ft on 2 way. Have high visability vest, Pull as far off the road without ending in the ditch. Stay in the vehicle unless ou need to leave then step away from it into the ditch. Always be aware (like a mother with yes in the back of their head). Things like such.
I could be wrong on the marker triangle thing, but its somewhat close

Nathan Holloway I'm no genius, but common sense is very helpful, lotta people don't seem to have it these days tho, and I'm 16 too, but use common sense and you'll be coo for the most part

    • @gorillaau
      @gorillaau 5 років тому +3

Yes, always stay with the vehicle... easier for emergency service (of all sorts) to find you. Put the hazard lights on and you are good. Hazard markers as suggested by Snipe are a good idea but are a pain to make sure you have them for that rainy day.

You do get a lot of water in MO but look at how lush your crops are. I was hitchhiking through that area of OK and MO and I got dropped off once in I don't know where, but the corn came right up to the crossroads there, taller than me, in all directions. Corn on all four sides of me. It was quite a sight. In northern California where I live now we grow a lot of olives, oranges and nut trees, pecan and almond. So there's nothing but orchards for hundreds of yards up to the roads. This was an interesting rescue. So, from what you were saying, you could put your truck into 8 wheel drive? Man, that's some pulling power.

The Klingon would be battle ready at all times. The Ferengi truck would be cheaply built for profit and everything would cost Latinum to use.
