    WOW! Hats off to you for being brave enough to put on your waders and go out into that mess! I'm not sure i would be that brave knowing there's all types of hidden dangers like snakes, gators and debris hidden underneath those murky waters. I'm glad it all worked out that those people were GOA instead of flood victim statistics. As always Ron, thank you for your dedication to what you do and taking us along for the ride! Please keep up the great and important work you do!

    Ron, I live about 45 mins south of you and the flooding is bad all around.
    Please folks, DO NOT DRIVE ON FLOODED ROADS! As Ron said while walking through those waters, you never know the road condition under the water! Also remember that the ground around/under the road and bridge is a water mud pie, the force of your vehicle may cause it to give way. You could be in the middle of that bridge and suddenly you and the bridge may be at the bottom of the ditch/creek/whatever it is!
    Be safe turn around!

      @HappilyHomicidalHooligan 5 років тому +1

      Don't forget the fact that even if the road doesn't collapse under your vehicle, if the water gets deep enough, you could do MAJOR damage to the Engine/Transmission/Electrical System that may cost more to fix than the vehicle is worth...

    It looks like something came out of the water where you were going in.... can see a wet trail where something appears to have emerged from the water and drove out on the opposing side of the roadway. Kind of a bummer to respond to a wild-goose chase, but I guess it happens some times.

    Where I live, it's an unusual year that it does NOT flood, like it has for you guys. Lots of times, worse. I have learned to leave two 6 foot pieces of 1inch PVC pipe in the bed of the truck. Being plastic, it doesn't matter if they get beat around a bit. Get dirty. Get wet. Etc. Pretty lightweight. And a lot more sturdy than you might think. Always walk a road, through the water, using the pipes like ski poles. There is always one on the ground in front of you. Caught a few washed out roads that we had zero indication of problems with. And walked a few people out of bad situations this way.
    You need ski poles, or pipes like mine, or something of the sort, when you do what you did in this video. I finally actually used some nylon straps to make handles on mine, like they have on ski poles. LOL

    One of the rules for our county is no one goes into flood waters without a life rope attached. There may be an undertow that can sweep you off your feet. It's better to find nothing than something you don't want to see.

    We often have such cases in Hamburg or on the Elbe - we often use multicopters and sound out the area - the copters have various additional devices that are able to look "through" the water and tell us what is "underneath" and whether there is "ground".
    I myself use a DJI Matrice 600 with various options (thermal camera / sonar technology / LIDAR radar and normal DCI4K camera) - with this copter I could help various people, for example: the fire department, THW and HPA. Anyway, thank you for your service and God bless you.

    Good morning Ron...
    Excellent work as Always..
    Might i suggest one nice piece of equipment; both highly functional for issues like this; yet also can be a heck of alot fun.... An Airboat.
    It can be used for that assessment work; ie: checking depth, using a pole . for attachment of cable; some rescue work if need be. As i watched this video ; that was what i thought of.
    Ron; Peace and Be Well.
    God bless you; your team; and family.
    May God also bless, cover comfort , heal and make provisions for all affected by the floodwaters....

    It looks like it was a job for 'Adventures With Purpose' who use Sonar and diving equipment to recover submerged vehicles and often find missing persons. Have you ever worked with them? Your advice about flood safety is well founded. We have a lot of rivers smaller than yours, but one driver lost his life trying to cross a flooded ford in a small stream. Many years ago, friends of mine used a little cabin-cruiser to rescue a static caravan home from a flooded trailer park, perhaps the only boat to tow a caravan. Thanks for sharing this video.

    Wow! You ain't kidding about the flooding out there! There's something about walking or driving through water you can't see the bottom of that makes my hair stand on end. I've been surprised riding off road through streams and swamps before - you can't see a 3' deep gulley until the bike is underwater, lol.
    At least you got to go for a nice stroll through the water. 😁 Thanks for sharing, Ron. God bless.

    If it would stop raining here in Wisconsin long enough, you would not keep flooding... The rain just does not want to take a break.. we get a day or two but more rain this spring... we are still major flooded out up here so yours won't end any time soon until the rains let up. SUGGESTION: Always take a POLE with you when walking into flooded road areas.. Use the pole to check under the water as you walk out to make sure you do not step into a sink hole, area the road is gone or in city, a man hole that the cover moved off of...

  • @taylormartin90
    @taylormartin90 5 років тому

    Ron, as some have suggested, a walking stick would help in those situations but what would also be a huge help is a flat bottom boat. That way you could navigate safely in those waters no matter if they were running or not and that would also help in recovery when you go to hook up to vehicles caught in water that is either too deep for one of your trucks or the water is to swift to risk it otherwise.

      Chris76-01 I think a small minority of Ron Pratts viewers watch these videos for the wrecks. That's likely where the thumbs down are coming from. These people are probably the same small minority that watch motor sports just for the wrecks, then say it was a boring race due to a lack of carnage.

  • @markb.1259
    @markb.1259 5 років тому

    Thanks for the video Ron! Mark's opinion... as you said, you had no idea if the submerged roadway ahead of you was even there as you walked through that water. Could have easily stepped off into a 10, 12, 18 foot deep hole. If waders aren't tied off tight up top, they fill up with water quickly and the wearer takes a trip to the bottom. Please... next time take a 6-8 foot walking stick with you and use it to verify the ground in front of you is still there! Like a blind person does with a cane. Stay Safe Sir!!!

    Just catching up on this video Ron, as me and the Mrs have been away on holiday, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary, we had a great time having a fishing holiday, and if we caught 100, we must have caught 200 fish, coarse fishing only, had some beautiful Carp, but all in all, we had a great time, and yes, my Wife loves to fish
    As to you going through that water Ron, can I ask you do one favour for me in future, when going through deepish water, always carry a long pole of stick with you, that way you can test the water in front of you, for drain covers that have come off, you go down, you might not always come straight back up, there might also be roads that might have come up, giving you unstable ground that you might have fallen over etc, just to be safe, and oh, it wasn't a boring video, I enjoyed it, Thank You again Ron, God Bless Stay Safe

    Ole boy on the other side looked like he was spoiling for a brawl the way he rolled up. Damn.

      Thing is, you never know. Van was gone this time, next time it could be a family of 5 who got caught in rising water. We did a water rescue where I waded out in water that barely covered the toes on my turnouts, within 45 seconds the water was waist deep and still rising.

    I enjoyed you sloshing through the water. Big fail for you but glad it wasn't anything serious. I wondered why the video was only 14 minutes long. I love all your videos no matter what.

    Just a tip, next time take one of your hook poles to probe the water ahead of you.

      Especially because you had no way of knowing if the deck of the bridge had been washed away.
