I was in the US for a few weeks during the holidays, and I didn't have time to shoot a new video. But here it is! I hope it's useful to you. Let me know what you think!
what part of the US? and yes indeed, the video is very, very efficient. Thank you for taking your time Niels. You make Dutch look quite simple :) I need to study it more in order to become fluent though. Thanks again!
Thanks Niels for uploading this video..Very helpful.. Could you please upload a video explaining What happens to the subordinate clause when the main clause starts with TIME (ex: "Op zaterdag.."), subordinating conjunction or a coordinated conjunction. Or what happens If the main clause starts with a coordinated conjunction and then appears a subordinated conjunction in the sub. clause. Or what If the main clause starts with a time, place or manner and then appears a coordinated conj. in the subordinated clause. Or what If the main clause starts with sub. conj. and then appears TIME. Or what if the main clause starts with sub. conj. and then appears a coordinated conj. in the sub. clause.. And What If there's a third clause in all this situations.. Thanks for reading my message.. Soon gonna tip $25.. Thanks for making dutch learning simple.. I love simplicity =)...
Hi Felix, thanks a lot! I'm assuming your question relates to the position the verbs appear in, in the situations you describe? Yes, that's definitely a video I'll be making. There are 3 basic clause types, and the only difference between them is the position of the verb. Since a UA-cam comment isn't the best medium for explanations that require a lot of examples and details, the best I can do right now is promise that I'll make that video in the near future! Thanks again
Thanks Niels.. here is another clause situation.. when the clause starts with a coordinated conjunction and a subordinated conjunction together.. example: Dus als zij winnen, winnen wij.. What happens here to the verb?, Also I think "Als" only is a subordinated conjunction when it is used as "When", not like "If, As, etc.." and Why some clauses starts with time, manner or place? Is it a personal option? or there is a rule?.. Please when you make this video, check these 2 comments by me again for not skipping any of these situations.. Have a great day.. You will hear from me soon =)
Niel, your Dutch grammar videos are the very best: I’ve recently found them on UA-cam and will watch all of them. Have you have stopped uploading new videos? Many thanks for your time and effort, it is greatly appreciated.
Hahaha made me laugh, the facial expressions were priceless. Great video, I try to pick up the patterns from duolingo but it's very helpful having them described in your teaching style. Dank u wel
Many thanks niels its so helpful.I'm from Indonesia we're ex Netherlands hindi..so we have a few words as a same words..Anyway its my first time learn the something new.. and i found ur vidio its really helful...
I have been using a workbook and find for some of the lessons your videos are clearer and easier to understand. Thank you. I tried to leave a “tip” but could not find you on Patreon any longer.
You are a genious! Dutch languange is the most difficult "thing" i ever tryed to learn till now. Somehow u manage it to make it look and sound as a "peace of cake"; i am very happy that i found you and i will try to follow everything u post online. As an sugestion, it might be useful to speak about negation: niet and geen, if u didnt do it already..... Thanks!
Absolutely love your videos, especially the way you have explained is super cute and fun. Keep it coming, helps us in the process of learning the language. :)
Amazing! And the rest of the videos are quite simple and into the core. I am glad that I have stumbled upon your channel. Keep the great work! Thank you :)
Dank je wel voor deze video! Het is erg nuttig. Ik wil Nederlands leren en ik heb het op Duolingo gestudeerd. Ik ben Braziliaans. Maar Ik kan zowel het Portugees als het Engels spreken. Nu wil Ik ook het Nederlands leren. (I just hope I've written this correctly).
"He goes to the swimming pool before work" could also be translated to "Hij gaat voor het werk naar het zwembad"? Based on the rule - Subject - verb - Time - place
Hi Masoma, thanks for your comment. I'm not sure if I could make a whole video, but let me try to explain what these words mean: - *dus* is similar to *so* in English. For example: "Ik heb geen tijd, dus ik kan je niet helpen" - _I don't have time, so I can't help you_. - *toch* is similar to *after all* or *anyway* in English. For example: "Heb je haar toch gebeld? Ik dacht dat je dat niet ging doen" - _Did you call her anyway? I thought you weren't going to do that_
This is great stuff. I wonder if there's room for an "advanced prepositions" video, too - I find Dutch prepositions to be baffling sometimes... for instance: een frisdrankje naar keuze (not van) ik kom uit Amsterdam (not van) de trein vertrekt over enkele minuten (not voor ). To be honest I hear this (almost) every day and know what it signifies (the train is a few minutes late) but not what it actually means. Plus words that are prepositions seem to serve as adverbs or conjunctions too door verstoring rijdt geen Intercity ... (do you detect a theme?) bij brand niet lift gebruiken Also - your American accent is perfect, are you native American English speaker?
Hi Gary! Thanks for your comments. Yeah, prepositions aren't easy. There's some basic order to them, but when it comes down to more specific uses, or worse, expressions and colloquialisms, it's a free for all. I could seriously talk about the different uses of 'aan' for 30 minutes, but I don't think that would do anyone any good. That doesn't mean that this video is all that can be said on a more general level. I did initially plan for this to be a set up for a more advanced video on prepositions. I still want to create that video, someday. As for your examples: "komen + uit" specifically refers to somebody's origins, not where they're coming from right now. _Ik kom van Amsterdam_ is perfectly valid, but it simply means that you just got here from Amsterdam. "Over" (when referring to time) is similar to "in" in English, e.g. _Over vijf minuten_, meaning _in 5 minutes_. "Door" in your example can be translated by "due to". Another example: _Door de harde wind zijn er vannacht veel bomen omgewaaid_ (A lot of trees were blown over last night due to strong winds) As for your last question: No, but my passion for English predates my passion for Dutch (my native language) :)
I was in the US for a few weeks during the holidays, and I didn't have time to shoot a new video. But here it is! I hope it's useful to you. Let me know what you think!

Mostly in NC with family, but we went down to New Orleans as well :)
I'm glad you like the video. Veel succes met studeren!

great video, if only these were ordered: ‘over’ with ‘under’, ‘inside’ with ‘outside’ etc. that would have them so much more easier to remeber.
Thank you, really helpful
Super leuke video 🤓👍
bedankt Man
Bedankt voor je reactie Aghiad!
I have a question why are your R's not round like the American R such as in the word "Naar"? It sounds more like a French R
it will come in handy if you come back again
This is great stuff. I wonder if there's room for an "advanced prepositions" video, too - I find Dutch prepositions to be baffling sometimes... for instance:

Ik houd van de geit! Too funny, my favorite is tegen, sure i won't forget it!
Mines too
Thank you so much
Thank you!😊
