I went ahead and bought a microphone. Now all I need to do is put it in a better place next time to make it sound even better. I hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions about it, let me know.
I love Netherlands language and Netherlands people in general. And you teach very well. You are indeed intelligent and also know how to teach, explain and make people understand what you teach. Well-done bro. U bent goed. Mijn naam is Tesimomy obianke irabor
Harstikke bedankt Niel! Ik ben in Nederland al andere half jaar geweest, heb al gestudeerd nederlands in een beroemde universiteit en nu volg ik nog een prive cursus maar ik wist er niet tot je ons vertelde!
I am a fan of Niels: I watch his videos often ( over and over) so I can learn the nuances of Dutch grammar. He is also very entertaining and inventive in his teaching.
Please make more word order videos 🥺 The way you explain things makes so much sense and I think it would really help for the more complicated sentences
You're a life saver. Ik woon al drie jaar in België en ik wist het niet om hoe "maar, pas, Allen" gebruiken. I hope my sentence is well constructed. Thank so much for this video
Dag Lucille, ik ben blij dat het heeft geholpen! As for your sentence, I would say: "Ik wist niet hoe (X) te gebruiken". You can do that with any question word if you want to avoid repeating the subject, like: "Ik weet niet wat te doen". Easier is probably adding adding a 'hulpwerkwoord' (kunnen, mogen, moeten, willen): "Ik weet niet wat ik moet doen" or "Ik wist niet hoe ik (X) kon gebruiken".
Looked at so many videos on Dutch learning on you tube. So far I found these ones to be the best. The way you clarify the concept its really fabulous. God bless you!
Hallo Niel! Hartelijk Bedank voor de les! Ik ben zo blij .. Ik studeer pas een jaar Nederlands! Maar uw videos zijn heeeel goed! I learn easily how to make the sentences! Terima kasih 🤩😘😘 sooo happy finally found your channel!
Great lesson, thank you! Not sure if anyone asked how to also use 'slechts' - I think it can also have 'only' meaning in some context. And what about 'net' (just)?
I'm sad to see you are no longer making videos.. :( Still...i am so happy you provided us with this amazing content. I'm thankful you went ahead and made these videos
I really appreciate your content! I already knew maar and alleen but pas I didn't understand. The Dutch have so many different ways to say things which their is only one word for in English. This makes it a real handful to understand all of the differences in Dutch as a native English speaker. Half the time I'm just sticking to maar and sounding silly
Thank you soooo much, I always had a slight problem with this. "Pas" is actually super funny for me because it means "dog" in my native Croatian. You're growing a nice beard by the way. :)
Hey Niels, very nice lesson, I have immediately referred you to a British friend aspiring to learn Dutch. One thing though, I think there is yet another word in this series: "slechts". It is a more formal word, I believe, it's not a word I’d easily use when speaking. But in writing it is pretty common. "Ik heb slechts drie boeken". I think it is the equivalent of "maar".
Hi Hans, thanks! Yes, you're right, 'slechts' is a formal synonym of 'maar'. I didn't include it because you don't need it very often, but I guess I could have mentioned it, because it is pretty common in advertisements, for example.
Dank u wel Neil! This video really helps me to figure out the difference of these words. And It’s also a good video to learn on train ! Learning a little Dutch every day is becoming my hobby ☺️✨✨
Thank you very much! I don't know if it's possible to do a video explaining when to use the words "deze, die, dit, dat" I will appreciate a lot! 😊 The way that you explain dutch is great!
Bedankt voor de les. In the sentence - she cant walk yet - you have mentioned ze kan...shouldnt it be ze kunt nog niet...? Please help with clarity here.
hello mr. Niels thank you for certivity of learning i am new follower for your page i want to thank you very much about the good subjects that you doing regards
Hi Niles, thank you for the video, your lesson is very clear ans easy to follow! One question what is the difference between duur (deze auto is te duur) and dure (ze hebben alleen dure auto)? May I request you to make a video on the Dutch spelling rules - the long and short vowel sound and open and closed syllable. This is very confusing and the way you explain things are so simple and easy to follow. Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the video. Here's an example from Duolingo: Je hoeft alleen maar op dat knopje te drukken. (You only have to press that button.) Can you explain why *both* "alleen" and "maar" are used here?
Hi Jim, super late reply, but I hope it's still useful: When 'alleen' is used to mean 'only', you can also usually substitute it by 'alleen maar'. It kind of strengthens the statement. Saying 'alleen maar' makes it sound like it's no effort at all, in this case. Another example: Imagine someone reacts angrily to something you do, when all you tried to do was help them. You could say: "Sorry, ik wilde alleen maar helpen". That's all you wanted to do. Or, you could express your exasperation at the grocery store by saying: "Ze hebben alleen maar volle melk!" (They only have whole milk).
Please!! I have gone through many many online videos. You are one the top 2 online docenten I go to for quality Dutch learning. I have seen ALL your videos. :)
Hi! I am late to the channel but I love it, thanks for sharing. I might be making a suggestion that you've already addressed... but I would love it if you leave the words on the screen a bit longer. Thanks so much!
Hello, thanks for sharing your knowledge in such a clear way. If you "only" lived in a place for a certaing period of time and you are not living there now - neither planning in doing it in the future - would this construction be correct? Ik heb maar zes maanden in Nederland gewoon. And one more question. De afspraak is pas om vier uur. It is not the time you'd like the meeting to be, but in some way you could expect it to change. Is this the reason why we use "pas"? And could we use "alleen" in limited options of time, for example: The meeting can only take place in monday, tuesday or friday". Thanks!
My daughter and I have thoroughly enjoyed your Dutch language videos. You explain things I can't find answers to elsewhere. Any chance you'll ever go back to making content for this channel? Or have you left the area? Thanks for all the help.
I love your channel, man! One thing that is funny to me is when you are about to test us with sentences. You always seem like you are about to giggle a bit. It might just be me but it is kinda funny and nice. Thanks for the videos!1 ;)
Ben je Nederlander ? Het klinkt dat jouw Engels geen accent heeft. Bedankt voor jouw Channel. Jouw uitlegging is heel nuttig en duidelijk. Ga het door!
Using "but "(maar) is also done in English, e.g. I have but 5 euros left. We have but a short time to fulfil our destiny. My eldest child is 20, my youngest but 5.
And while learning that I learned some grammar rules along the way 😂 perfect 😘 Thanks to you I learned so much! Like I feel like I am progressing by the day with your videos and I feel like I can actually learn Dutch by myself if I try hard 😂
whispz I’d say the word order is still tricky for me if I wanna make long phrases but I’d say I can introduce myself and have a little bit of chat going on ☺️
I went ahead and bought a microphone. Now all I need to do is put it in a better place next time to make it sound even better. I hope you enjoy the video! If you have any questions about it, let me know.

I am a fan of Niels: I watch his videos often ( over and over) so I can learn the nuances of Dutch grammar. He is also very entertaining and inventive in his teaching.
Well explained. thank u so much.
And to further add to the confusion: "zij hebben alleen nog maar dure auto's" is a perfectly correct thing to say in Dutch 😁
Fun video :)
Een 'user-friendly' uitleg met mooie voorbeelden. Ik studeer Nederlands al jaren maar er zijn toch nog veel gaatjes. Dank je wel Niels, goed gedaan!

Hi Niels I wish you would make a video about niet and geen. I really enjoy your way of teaching.
You're a life saver.
Ik woon al drie jaar in België en ik wist het niet om hoe "maar, pas, Allen" gebruiken.
I hope my sentence is well constructed. Thank so much for this video

Thanks for this video. Very clear explanations, as always.
Enig/enige is also only in English. Mijn enige zuster - my only sister.
Great lesson, thank you! Not sure if anyone asked how to also use 'slechts' - I think it can also have 'only' meaning in some context. And what about 'net' (just)?
Dank u wel!
Very good teaching technique. understandable. Thanks Niels

Great! Your videos are exactly what I needed to supplement Duolingo. You explain everything so well and patiently!
Ik had dit een keer gezien, maar het is goed om een andere keer te kijken.
THANK YOU for this explanation!!! I finally have it clear!
Thank you soooo much, I always had a slight problem with this. "Pas" is actually super funny for me because it means "dog" in my native Croatian.
You're growing a nice beard by the way. :)
Hvala! Glad it helped. I always thought it was funny that 'sir' means cheese in Croatian. It makes English honorific titles a lot funnier ;-)
Best teacher ever!!!
Really really helpful, been looking for an asnwer to this for a while. Thank you!
Your lessons are super clear. Great to see you making videos again!.
Thank you!

Bedankt!!! You can explain in a really good way! It helps me a lot! ( Dutch is erg moeilijk )
Je hebt gelijk, nederlands is een beetje moeilijk, maar het is ook heel mooi, inderdaad

Ja, ik kom uit Nederland, maar ik spreek al heel lang elke dag Engels :) Bedankt voor je reactie!
Using "but "(maar) is also done in English, e.g. I have but 5 euros left. We have but a short time to fulfil our destiny. My eldest child is 20, my youngest but 5.
Thank you for nice explanation 👍
