- The Kennedy Center Honors airs tonight on CBS-TV, and Heart talked about the tough honor of playing "Stairway To Heaven" in honor of Led Zeppelin and in the presence of the band and the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama and see what they had to say, here!
Heart's Stairway was one of the greatest covers of all time. Ann has one of the greatest voices in music history
This is true
Totally agree!!
My favorite singer/vocalist of all time.
No question, I can’t think of a better cover I’ve ever heard, crushed it.
2021 and I still come back to watch it. One of the most incredible performances ever.
Made even more amazing by the choir!
Ann and Nancy brought the house down with their tribute to Led Zeppelin. Thank you so much. (big HEART)
Big NO HEART
HEY STUPID
In spite of Obummer and Moochelle
It was definitely no pressure because that performance is 11 out of 10. It was perfect. Ann gave a GOAT vocal performance.
When Ann and Nancy first started out, coving Zeppelin songs was a large part of their repertoire. They were made to do this. Ann’s voice is perfect. Nancy is criminally underrated as a guitarist. The whole performance was legendary. Something both the song and Jimmy, Robert and John Paul deserve.
@heidichristensen7919 I didn't know Heart used to cover Zeppelin songs - thanks for that info - but I'm not surprised. Robert Plant's voice is perfect for them. I'm a mezzo soprano like Ann - who's one of my idols - & she inspired me to sing backup & lead in a classic rock band in the 80's & 90's. In fact, one of the songs I sang was "Rock & Roll".
Yes Nancy is incredible! Ann…..somthankful
Nancy is so right this is not an easy song because the timing and orchestration is so unusual and they killed it!!
Awesome performance but this is not a difficult piece of music in fact it’s fairly predictable but that’s part of what makes it awesome!
Heart had a tough task...but they NAILED IT!!! I've watched this version so many times. Heart are AMAZING
Anne and Nancy of Heart...while remaining incredibly talented...they are always so grounded, grateful and humble. This why they have stayed successful through over 30 years in the music business and why they are so admired and loved.
I'm biased because I've been a huge fan of Ann & Nancy for 30+ years, BUT, no one else could've done that kind of justice to a tribute to Led Zeppelin. Amazing
Just not that idiot racist, please!!!
That whole act was simply first class. That's what Led Zeppelin deserve. Amazing tributes by amazing musicians.
They created One of the most epic moments in rock and roll. It was absolutely awesome. Will love on forever 🤘🏻
Those sisters are amazing musicians.
She is astonishing, mesmerising. I can't stop playing it 🥰🥰🥰
Great... In my opinion Led Zeppelin is the biggest rock group in the world...
Beautiful and fair tribute ... The arrangement of the song Stairway to heaven was sensational ...
🤲🎼🤲🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
most amazing tribute rendition I have EVER WITNESSED!!
Incredible rendition of a classic. I have watched it like 50 times!
Hey STUPID
Me too! 12.23.20
Only 50?!
Me too and it brings me to tears. It’s simply beautiful.
Light weight! (LOL)
Epic performance!! Difficult song to do but they absolutely killed it. They so beautifully built up to a musical climax.
The Wilson Sisters were just absolutely brilliant and when I saw tears in Robert Plant's eyes I was overwhelmed. Great performances from all the bands and the guitarist on stairway was Shane Fontayne, he was superb.
Unbelievable talents. Ann and Nancy, you are one of a kind and we love you for it!
Ann and Nancy are still beautiful !
+Frank Pitochelli I couldn't agree more and they're the best female vocalist and best female guitar player in rock .
X2
Say WHAT 😲
U Need Glasses BROTHER
Larry Jordan
Yer gonna get old too bud
Ann and Nancy are amazing musicians, you dicks.
They made it their own.
An instant classic.
I find myself watching the video every so often.
This is one of my all time favorite things that has ever happened. Truly amazing!!
As far as I'm concerned hearts version at the Kennedy honors, is the best version of stairway to Heaven I've ever heard... Better than Zeplin themselves... To be fair, the scores of choir singers in the background had a dramatic impact to the song, but every part of the production was so damn beautifully done....it brings chills everytime I watch it
Well they needn't have worried (they are rather legendary themselves) ... and they absolutely killed it.
They ladies did an awesome tribute to zeppelin. Brings tears to your eyes
i get crazy when i watch it over. and every time it shows plant misty-eyed, i tremble too. i grew up with Heart and their music and they turned me on to zeppelin, so for me its like a panic attack watching it with so much inside. i hear ya stan! i was watching it on cbs and then HOLYF**NS**T! HEART? wtf!!! i was in heaven and i cried like a baby.
Love the Wilson sisters, so great an so humble.
I am so proud of Ann and Nancy for doing such a great job honouring their idols. It was so nice to see them play for Zeppelin, and to see how much Zeppelin was moved, and to know that they sought the girls out after the show to compliment them on their version of Stairway to Heaven. I love Zeppelin and I love Heart!!
Thank you for uploading this interview! I'm a HUGE fan of both Led Zep and Heart and never did I think I would see such a tribute from one great band to another! Ann and Nancy were AWESOME! Jimmy, Robert and John Paul all looked very moved by their performances which also included the late great John Bonham's son Jason on drums.
AMAZING night!
“A lot of people butcher that song.” Truest words ever uttered in rock.
The ladies of Heart are and have always been such a class act. Ann Wilson has a very powerful and beautiful voice which sounds best when heard in person. For those of you who have never caught one of their performances live,I would highly recommend you do so.
Ann & Nancy, you did a WONDERFUL job! It was phenomenal!
They were Great GREAT GREAT in their day AND on that night. THANK YOU HEART for all you had to endure as women in the industry so that we could have the memories of TRULY beautiful, cool, colllected and masterful badass women on those stages. You made a difference.
This is and always will be the best dedication and cover to this classic!!!
Heart...They killed it!!!! Awesome show. Best cover ever
In a later interview the Wilsons admitted "Lots of people butcher that song". They nailed it!! The song was treated like a Hymn. One of the greatest musical momeants and now memories of my life. Thank God for the web. Can enjoy it forever.
Fantastic job to heart this may very well be the best cover of all time absolutely fantastic well done ladies
They still both look great! And most amazing performance of stairway EVER, by far!
Naaaa,
STUPID
Larry Jordan
Sorry about that. Tough to be stupid!
I’m not stupid and I enjoyed that performance. I’m not even a rock fan btw.... but I do like and enjoy good music! I might not be any Einstein but I’m so thankful to not be stupid and therefore enjoy this
when robert plant got so emotional and had to wipe a tear from his eyes it got to me, they were the greatest of all time. thank you ann and nancy....
Ann and Nancy thank you so much . Nobody could have done it better than you .
I love heart. They are my favorite all time band I love these ladies they’re super cool it down earth. If I could go anywhere in time and place, I would go watch their tribute to Led Zeppelin.❤😊
That is exactly what i would do. No question.
They absolutely killed it with arguably the BEST performance of it EVER!
Man, they just showed how good they are. What a performance. Something you’ll never see again.
heart is the only band that can cover a led zeppelin song and do it justice period. and they are fronted by two amazing women!
Brilliant.
Just brilliant.
Oh My god, the Best performance I ever Heard !
ann and nancy you are awesome and sounded great, Best ever
Amazing ladies whom inspire future pop stars. You did an amazing job and your beautiful x
A truly memorable rendition of this classic LZ song. What true professionals to have performed it so well.
Shane Fontayne did a great job on guitar.
@Anthony Marks Balls of steel anyway and he didn't do that bad. I mean, what was he gonna do, try to replicate MSG 73` live? lol Good luck to anyone.
@Anthony Marks Fair
@Anthony Marks I appreciate that he just played the solo well, didn’t try to make it about himself. Jimmy seemed to really enjoy it, and that’s what matters
Dear Ann and Nancy,
You guys rocked the toughest crowd with the toughest number…WOW…Excellent! You ladies still look great and I am still in love with Ann! Great Job!!
Love you ladies! You are Cool and Stairway to Heaven OMG!!! No words👍❤️🙏🏻
couldnt have said it better myself. they hold the biggest piece of my heart and my childhood!
I have always admired Heart from the 1st time I saw them on The Midnight Special playing " Crazy on You. We all share the same appreciation for great songwriters like Page & Plant, Lennon & McCartney. Heart has kept Love and the Zeppelin legend alive.
That was the best tribute performance I've ever seen.
I'm huge "Heart" fan. Ann and Nancy, the choir, and the musicians knocked this one out of the ball park. Wow.
They brought the house down !!! Just phenomenal talent !!!
Heart put on a outstanding performance that was a incredible
Wow, they've aged well. And Nancy is beautiful.
Let's not forget what the choir added to that song.
Just watched the tribute interview with Ann and Nancy. Loved what they said, and how they played it, a large tribute to large legends.
The Wilson sisters are peerless. Why is the baby boomer generation so untouchably amazing? Some magic portal of musical genius opened up and poured into them. Music will be so dim when they are all gone.
Caus they didnt grow up on mobile phones, laptops, social media,it was grass roots
The greatest rock and roll singer who ever lived, male or female
They killed it. I don't care what anyone says, they fucking killed it.
I can watch ann Wilson over and over again
It was a stunning performance. Few covers have EVER been this good.
Ann and nancy are just great togeather and solo. They were the first woman band I listened to in the early 70 . And still great today . Thanks for a great night out.
i cam in on 1985's self-titled comeback and have been following them since! i even dyed my hair with blue streaks back in the 80s when i was a kid. i remember watching song remains the same on my VHS player and trying to play my guitar like page! ann wilson is the most underrated voice in rock n roll. to see her and nancy close the show and be around all these years says EVERYTHING about the class act they are, have been and will always be and they one day too will be honored like zep!
Anne and Nancy you are both so beautiful and loved your performance. Amazing . So sad that I live in
Australia as appreciated you So much
❤❤ They're BOTH STILL beautiful ❤️🤩
Checked Heart in a hotel as a bellman Nancy Wilson Tipped me, gave me tickets at will call,
To her concert, She stayed at The Hyatt , Regency Club,
Class act Band member, These people were so nice, great people, I'm glad she did Stairway to Heaven
No one could do that song any better but those two, a women's touch that's what that song did,
You no Heart will go down as a great band, Thanks again Heart for the tip an tickets , rock on,
Let music Love change the world, Peace out guys, always take care of there band, great people.
cant get enough of this
😅
Rock on Ann & Nancy - fabulous.
"A lot of people really butcher that song"
Lol that's a very accurate fact!
Me and my bandmates are considerably good (no bragging intended) but we butchered it horribly the last time we played it!
You sounded better than the Original group. Awesome Job.
I didn't see the performance live, but I heard about it and then watched it on You Tube. I literally broke out into a cold sweat, began trembling, and when they cut over to Robert Plant I began crying like a baby. Fucking amazing performance. My god.
Heart was my first concert at the age of 13 , they were amazing then , and still amazing now. Plus they are both beautiful, they have aged well, and can still rock.
Gotta love those two ... "no pressure" ;)
The two of them look fantastic!
I think male rockers should have a look and see how to do it.
To be a rock and not to roll ladies!
Heart did a phenomenal job and so did the other singers but I love Heart since I was a little girl in the 70’s
Nancy is four years older than me and remains a fantasy.
What an incredible woman.
Well they absolutely bloody nailed it.
IT WAS AWESOME TO HEAR STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!!!
Stephanie Proffitt My wife Pauly and I were so moved by this event and this version that we produced the backing track from scratch - note and sound perfect to this version which we already gigged with and the response has been rapturous to say the least! What a testament to those who wrote, recorded and performed this amazingly perfect rock song!!!! Google Heaven on Earth as we hope to video our performance of this track soon ...
Robert was in tears
Both
Because the performance by HEart was so spectacularly overwhelming
He commented that he realized that world he wrote that song in doesn’t exist anymore
Good ol' mrltavern.... all of us Heart fans love your view of the band.
Ya just can't let them go from your life. That's understandable.
Throughout the years you've consistently commented about them... actually proving how great of a band they are.
Best cover of STH ever, well done gilrs.. You blew the guys away, robert was in tears.
A wonderful tribute to the most incredible rock band in the history of rock n roll!
I have followed Ann and Nancy Wilson since the mid-70's when I was in high school. I think Rach Baker says it very nicely below....couldn't agree more and this is exactly why they have stayed successful for as long as they have in the music business. I always feel so proud of them when they perform. Class act for sure.
Heart nailed it Ann and Nancy are talented as.
He sung it with great passion and everybody seemed to love it, with the exception of you it appears.
Heart does the best Led Zep
I always loved the song. It's a wonderful rendition by the sisters even approved by the remaining members of Led Zeppelin. But who would have ever guessed that Gollum, the evil one, would be able to attach himself in such a way to such a beautiful event. He crept up and slipped away with Her.
I had never listened to Heart before I saw this. I missed many years of listening to one of the greatest bands of all time. Ann and Nancy are as talented as they are beautiful.
I was wondering if they talked to you about the performance. It was so amazing. Their faces tell all when they were watching too❤
This was song of my youth, this was my anthem, always loved heart also. But that was the best song ever written, performed by the best band next to the original. How do you take the perfect song by great band and make it as good or better. Get the Wilson girls to take perfection, and step it up a notch. Did not think it was possible to do it as good, much.less make it just a touch better. But DAMN they did it
Anna truly did justice to this song. It was an honour for all watching her performance, it was extraordinary. Truly one of the greatest performances of all time. She totally smashed it; it was better than words can tell. Just extraordinary. What a singer.
Wonderful they did Great Job.
I got a great deal of enjoyment out of your sarcasm. And I agree with you completely!
The Ann & Nancy interview is very nice. Their performance at the ceremony was incredible!
There are a lot of "great" singers out there. A friend of mine is the only "heroic, dramatic, tenor, known alive, and he is unbelievable. But, you need to be able to present it. Put it out there. Let the work draw you in; tease your senses; and let your mind "fly with the birds". Thank you LED, and thank you to all on the stage.
Truly a gift.
For most of us Americans, does Not matter what country there from, best rock band ever!!!!
Belo Horizonte Minas Gerais Brazil !🇧🇷🇧🇷🇺🇸🇺🇸
They knocked it out of the park so hard that the ball is still going.
