- Tv Music and Memories is sad to hear of the Passing of Denise Nickerson (1957-2019) and Sy Thomasoff (1925-2019), John Karlen, Diana Millay, Peter Miner and Robert Cobert(Who was responsible for the music of Dark Shadows) and now Christopher Pennock a few days ago have also passed since the making of this video ...ENTIRE CAST IS FEATURED IN THIS MUST SEE VIDEO TRIBUTE .WITH AUDIO FROM THE DARK SHADOWS SOUNDTRACK.A fitting Tribute to one of the most iconic TV Shows Ever.

One of the best shows of all time. There will never be another one like it in this current time. Such a star studded cast of actors. May the ones that have gone on be never forgotten and the ones that remains be always honored. I'm glad to have been able to watch the show as a child and later in reruns format. My God it's been nearly 60 years!!!
I totally agree with everything you mentioned.Dark Shadows is one of the most unique shows of all time.Definitely,the greatest soap opera ever on television.This show will always have it's special place iin history.
I hear you! great show that I grew up with. I was about 10 or 11 years old in the late 60s when I started watching Dark Shadows (at the time I remember it being syndicated at 4:00pm after school). What was great was that Dan Curtis Productions studio was right across the street from my elementary school in Manhattan. My school P.S. 111, was located around 53rd Street between 9th and 10th avenues. Some of the kids would wait after school with their parents to get autographs from the actors. I know that actor Johnny Depp was a big fan of DS when he was a kid, which is why he and Tim Burton decided to do the Dark Shadows movie (2012).❤

Didn't have a Clue or know anything about Vampires at 5 yrs old, but I couldn't wait for Dark Shadows to come on TV in the afternoon.!
Life is too damned short, and I truly miss the past.
Back in 1969 or so, as a latchkey kid I would come home from elementary school while my mother was still at work and first thing I'd do is put the TV on. Soon Dark Shadows would come on and I'd sit there on the couch with a blanket over my head while watching this scary show. It was only @ in the Afternoon, and still daylight outside, but no matter.... lol. I think I actually enjoyed getting scared by that show...the acting was that good! It was the only soap I use to really watch...and I loved it! Then soon... I would run outside and start to play with my friends until my Mom came home from work. Those days I often had to make my own TV dinners too, but our house was filled with love. It's not easy on a mother, having to raise up her son alone, but she did it! Somehow too.... I survived the terrors of Dark Shadows on TV.... and the Munster's, and the Adam's family....why? Well...compared to today's TV....they were tame by comparison. They all had father figures in the home...and somehow I think they helped to fill the hole that was in our family. You don't get even that much....out of television today. I'm glad I was a 60's kid and not a kid raised on today's wacko TV, with it's so-called family series that have no real father in the home. By the way... I too, love music. Pretty much the same scenario I waited for my sister and we both walked home. I was five years older than her. We would watch the edge of night dark shadows, and Gilligans island. Then I would make my sister and I some dinner clean up the kitchen and by that time my parents would be home, we had both parents but with that being said they both drink heavily and it was usually just sister and I we learn to survive and it was good times

I enjoyed this show coming home after school and getting scared about vampires and werewolfs, the actors were great and the music so iconic 🦇
In Rochester, Minnesota they showed it at noon. So we ran home and turned it on...Made lunch....and at the end when we had to go back to school.....We were always late.
I lived with my grandmother at 5 yrs old and I would watch soaps with her,but in the afternoon Dark Shadows would come on and I Loved it! This was before the Adams family or anything else in the scary zone. Well I consider Adams family comedy.But anyway You know what I'm saying!

The acting and story telling is what made this show so great. There were only 5 sets...the drawing room, the old house, Josette's room, the Blue Whale bar, and the Mausolem/Cemetary. But the acting, music, and writing were SO great, special effects weren't even necessary. ❤
More sets than that. Vickie's bedroom, David's bedroom, Dr. Lang's ''operating room'', Maggie/ Sam Evan's cottage, the house by the ocean where evil Nicolas lived, the hotel restaurant where Maggie worked as a waitress and the Antique store where Liviathans were.
even temporary places like the hospital in Collins port where different people were patients, plus ''100 miles away'' Wind Cliff sanitarium where Maggie stayed and Barnabas visited Willie, a police station and the scary secret passage tunnel when Maggie escaped from Barnabas.

Enjoyed this tribute to these awesome actors and actresses. I love this show, very decent and clean. They’ll never make shows like this again. I still watch them and always will. Loved the talent behind the great music as well.

I watched this show every day after school. It came on around 4 or 4:30. So many great memories. I still watch it occasionally, it has a vibe and eeriness no modern show can replicate

Sadly, Robert Cobert's gone. Born October 26, 1924, Died February 19, 2020. Brilliant composer and early, groundbreaking, excellent, and superbly eerie use of moog synthesizer. RIP Robert.
Let's not forget his music to not only Dark Shadows, but I'm the production of The Winds of War and War and Rememberance. The main title theme from both was so moving even today when I hear it I weep.

Agreed. But it wouldn't stay on the air long. Young folks won't be interested unless there's tons of "big booty bitches," a shitload of iPhones and laptops, irresponsible drinking and kids cussing at their parents. I mean, you must have these things in order to our youth interested. Pitiful.
There was an actual pilot for a second series reboot for 2005 but was cancelled due to "creative differences" and production/crew changes. Lots to say about it but as reboots go, they flipped the scrip quite a bit. Vicki Winters and Barnabas Collins were cast as blondes while Carolyn Stoddard and Angelique Boussard were brunettes. Just look it up on youtube (Dark Shadows 2005) I heard there really is another attempt at returning the series once more. But I feel like if they fail this time, the idea will be canned forever.
It would never be the same, the original cast was the formula that made Dark Shadows what it was. I binge watch all the time, much much more entertaining than the garbage they're dishing out today.....

Since January, we have lost on January 8, Diana Millay (Laura Collins) 1936-2021, on February 12, Christopher Pennock (Jeb Hawkes) 1944-2021, on February 23, Geoffrey Scott (Sky Rumson) 1942-2021, and this past Thursday, March 25, 2021, Robert Rodan (Adam) 1938-2021.

Sorry to hear about Robert Cobert's passing two years ago. His suitably eerie theme and background music played a major role in enhancing the dramatic impact of "Dark Shadows". Rest in peace, Bob.

Ohh yeah true and I read that actor Johnny Depp and Michelle Peiffer were also big fans of the original show too. Johnny Depp used to call his friend DS actress Kathryn L Scott and ask her all kinds of stuff about how the show was made and about their bloopers and the funny stuff that happened on the show. Both Depp and Michelle wound up getting all of the Dark Shadows episode DVDs and getting hooked on all the episodes all over again. Now that is very cool.
Ohhh hey Paul, I jut checked your videos. What happened to that sexy video you once posted about Johnny Depp when he was younger. That was a hot video. Do you still have that poster of him that you told us about that you had on your wall. Was that of him from 21 Jump Street or from the 1990's? You should repost that video of him for the Depp fans.

I think I was about five years old and I used to sit and watch my cousin and sisters watched it and then when I got older they brought back reruns I would run home from school and sit and watch it everyday Dan Curtis is awesome what a great writer & all the brilliant writers for Dark Shadows. I finally got to watch everything on Amazon Prime the whole series I'm going to start buying the seasons one by one it's absolutely brilliant Joan Bennett clothes and all the clothes and the characters are awesome my favorite character was Quentin there was just something about David Selby I love it all I love everything about it and then I heard they're bringing back a remake another one that'll be awesome I will be watching it thank you for Dark Shadows.

Thinking back to my school days . I remember one of the schoolmates sharing a picture of David Selby ( teen idol magazine ) with her friends ... and hooked .

Just discovered this video. Thank you thank you thank you for the extreme effort it took to build this video. Dark shadows is and has been a factor in my life since I was a kid. The old series and every reiteration the story itself of Barnabas and Jozette. What a great great story and it stood the passage of time didn’t bravo

@@harperstacey9604 I think only three of the gay actors from the show actually died from AIDS related illnesses while the others just died of natural causes . Keep in mind that just because someone is Gay does not mean they will get AIDS nor die from it. Both Jonathan Frid and Louis Edmonds and even writer Ron Sproat lived a long life and did not die from AIDS
Unfortunately a lot them were smokers. Thayer David died in 1978 from a Heart Attack and Grayson Hall died from Lung Cancer in 1985. There are very few left. We recently lost the lovely Lara Parker on October 12, 2023.
@@bruce8808 Denise Dickerson said she was smoking at age 11, on the set in Joan Bennet's dressing room. Her voice became very raspy as she matured.

I saw this show growing up in the seventies…and recently in 2020 during Covid lockdown I saw the entire series yet again…it was comforting, believe it or not, amid so much fear and uncertainty with that unknown Covid…❤🤠

I was 6, in 66... Barnabas had the best fangs !!! Had such a crush for Josette ..and Angelique's eyes were mesmerizing...I had the dark shadows board game shown at the end,, it came with plastic fangs that fit GREAT ! Great times....great life , over here in Michigan.
I have been watching on Pluto TV every day. Remember it as a kid loved it then as I do now.
Oh my, this brings back so many memories of rushing home from school to sit glued to the TV. I remember Angelique and Rev. Trask being the two characters you loved to hate! I had no idea such well-known actors were once on the show, such as Abe Vigoda, Conrad Bain, Marsha Mason, and Virginia Vestoff (she played Abigail Adams in the movie "1776"). The wonderfully talented John Karlen has been gone for some time, and he won Emmy for Best Supporting Actor on Cagney and Lacey.
I remember running off the bus so me and my sister could watch the show. It came in at 4pm eastern time, many moons ago. I think around 1972 there abouts. Thank you for all the cast pics and id’s. I’d gotten sidetracked with work raising children, it was always in the back of my mind. About five years ago or so ago I have almost all the episodes. Then I understood the story.

Oops ... I just (finally) realized that on a lot of the actors, you don't give dates of birth and death because they're still living. Can't believe I didn't think of that. So sorry. And what a surprise to see Kate Jackson, Kenneth McMillan and Marsha Mason. (A breeding ground for stars, this series was.)
Dark Shadows had all of the qualities of a top notch Gothic thriller. Superb storyline, simple but beautifully haunting music and props, high quality actors and a sophisticated subtlety that stimulated the audience's imagination. Not full of endless noise and overkill with cheap attention seeking third rate shallow actors like you find in so many of today's attempts at horror. It all starts with good writers and directors who have creative imaginations and who understand the history and structure of this genre.

This show was before my time. I started watching it back in the 1990's when it aired on the Sci-Fy Channel. Been hooked ever since! I bought the entire collection on DVD.
My favorite was/is Nancy Barrett. Playing so many different roles she seemed to capture all of womanhood to me.

I was 11 back in 1966 when this show first came out. I watched it fairly often, but over the years I always seemed to remember it for some reason. I purchased the complete "Coffin DVD Set" in August 2020, and have been watching it since. I'm up to 1219 (the "Missing Episode") and soon will be reaching the end. And I'm surprised how good the show was. Dan Curtis really created something epic with DS. And that's why it's still popular today.

I have been watching Dark Shadows almost daily for about a year, and I'm only on season 10. I absolutely love this show and I even have the theme song set as my ringtone on my phone.
I haven't seen all of these characters yet. I'm so excited to imagine what I still have yet to see.
What an absolutely perfect show. I even love how one episode I saw one on the cameramen with his huge camera in the background in a scene. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I believe the character the "Strange Woman" is at 13:13 is Phyllis Wick, the tragic woman who exchanged time frames with Victoria Winters when Vicki was sent back to 1795. She was also played several uncredited stand-in characters in the early DS episodes, including the "Woman in White" and "the body in Maggie Evans' dream". (Credit: The Dark Shadows Wiki website)

My favorite show of all time, watched it from the day it started till the day it ended, and never missed a show. I was grateful for whoever put this together. Was I the only one who noticed how many performers from this show died young? I was very surprised. Still watch it as I have the episodes that we bought years ago when my husband got it for me (he used to say he did not understand why I liked it, then got hooked himself lol). Best ever!

I have been watching DS for several weeks now. I remember it from my childhood in the 60s but all I really remembered was Barnabas and Angelique. Nothing about the storyline but now I’m 600 episodes in and loving every minute of it.
