      Donya,
I am so sorry, I understand how you feel , I was in Middle School when D.S . came on , School didn't let out until 3 :50 , and D. S. was on at 3:00 here in Dallas , I would have my Mother watch it and the first thing I would say when I got in the car after School was " What happened on Dark Shadows " ? It was so happy when Summer came and Chrustmas Vacation so I could watch it every day , My Mother passed away in 2017 at the age of 94 ,
Now I watch it every night on Decades TV channel.
      ❤❤

For those thinking Jonathan passed on the 20th of April, it was actually the 14th, or the night/of Friday the 13th and early morning hours of the 14th of April. This of course brings speculation about the supernatural, but he was just a man who played a role. May he rest in peace, and so thankful for the years of entertainment he brought to us. :)

In addition to everything else, "Dark Shadows" had some extremely beautiful women in the cast -- such as Kate Jackson, Lara Parker and Alexandra Moltke -- but as a 13-year-old boy, I could never take my eyes off of Nancy Barrett and Katherine Leigh Scott. And they're still beautiful.

You know, honestly, it's absolutely futile to put the character "Roger Collins" in a movie, and not have him played by Louis Edmonds!!! Yes, yes, I know Louie's dead. But neither the 1991 mini-series, nor the 2012 movie came close to doing Roger Collins justice. Like "Sean Connery IS James Bond" -- "Louie Edmonds IS Roger Collins."

I recall an interview that Lara Parker did when the show was in something like it's 2nd or 3rd year. She was making the tour of a lot of stations around the country that played Dark Shadows. She said that those who weren't in the scene would be off camera always doing things to try to make those on camera flub their lines. She also said that they'd do things that would kind of mess up the scene. I recall one scene where there was a fight at the Blue Whale bar. One actor was to pick up a chair and hit it on a table breaking it. Well, the break-away chair was taken away and a real chair was put in its place. The looks of surprise on both faces of the actors was priceless. Dark Shadows is playing 5 nights a week on Decades, and over-the-air TV station.

I was one of the first wave DS fans and I didn’t believe the balloon juice about viewership tanking as the cause of the show’s cancellation; still don’t! We were kids who did have some power of the pocketbook but not enough to keep ABC happy. Having said that, I’ll also add that any attempts to try at a revival of the show are hopelessly doomed to failure. The original version had an ensemble of die hard thespians and staffers who gave it their all for an innovative series while lifting ideas from the classics- Poe, Lovecraft, Wilde, etc. All involved would have done it for nickels and considered themselves well compensated. Everything they did to promote the show sparkled with the graciousness of dedicated professionalism. On a personal note- those same actors made me a much better student. Damned if I was going to crap out my schoolwork and wind up being kept after the last bell. I had to jet out and make it inside and fanny to the floor in front of the TV by 4 PM.

I would have liked to have seen Barnabas and Vicki together as a couple though many many fans wanted to see him end up with Julia instead. Dont forget that Barnabas 'forced' himself on Maggie, she did not love him. Barnabas when he was first on the show and evil, he kidnapped Maggie and he both mentally and physically abused her. That's not love.

@@thejupiter2574 Yes and in those days the show was scheduled to be canceled so the plan was for EVIL Barnabas to be staked by Doctor Woodard -- end of show. Then the show got renewed -- what to do? Barnabas became the first (as far as I'm aware of) sympathetic vampire and he would no more hurt Maggie than burn down The Old House.

Put me in a trance many a time! Touched my young soul wth the delivery of his lines and the writers were fantastic! I haven't seen the new movie but, from the trailors to it I am dissapointed and feel they made a mockery of what they could have done sweet justice. Not too surprised with the people involved. Mr. Frid said he could not careless about who played his role after him nor about a Dark Shadows remake. He never saw the Burton movie and just did not care. He was to old with health problems . He died before the movie came out. The Burton movie was not meant to be taken seriously at all . It was made as a 'parody' of the TV show not a remake and not a reboot. Frid said he was not emotionally attached to the Barnabas character.

Just watched the episode where Barnabas tells Angelique that he loved her, then she gets killed by Trask. I was disappointed that she just didn't go forward in time with Barnabas. Since they were ending his character, they should of ended him living happily ever after. He sort of did having his curse end, but they should have ended him not being lonely any longer either.

At first, I had a difficult time understanding as to how Barnabas could forgive Angelique after she "caused" the deaths of Jeremiah, Sarah, Josette and Naomi. But then I realized that Barnabas did not have to shoot and kill Jeremiah, that Sarah got lost in the storm and developed pneumonia on her own, and that Josette and Naomi chose to take their own lives. Again, I am not exonerating Angelique one bit, but there is always the issue of free will in these situations.

Barnabas wasn’t exactly Pope John Paul II himself, what with his absolutely horrific treatment of Maggie Evans, murdering the beloved Dr. Dave Woodard, putting the bite on both Carolyn Stoddard and Vicky Winters, indirectly causing Sam Evans to go blind and then Sam getting killed by Adam, and then deciding that Maggie Evans would be the perfect candidate to be the “life-force” for the over-sexed Adam’s mate.
Yeah, as if Barnabas hadn’t done enough rotten things to Maggie and her late father already. I don’t understand how Dr. Julia Hoffman could be so attracted to such an ogre of a man.

Kathryn Leigh Scott is a very fine actress, but I find her a bit overbearing. She tends to take over the interviews and use the limited airtime to plug her books, when she should be sharing that time with her fellow DS actors. Otherwise, she seems to be a very nice lady who obviously cherished her DS years.
Jonathan Frid was such a complex, witty, eloquent, beguiling and phenomenally gifted actor. He had it all - beautifully expressive eyes, chiseled cheekbones, that mesmerizing, rich and sensuous voice. He was a Class Act, so "old world" polite, gracious and humble. He would sit quietly and respectfully, interview after interview, looking slightly bemused while "Katy" did her shtick and tried to sell her latest book. 🙄😄 I've watched many of Frid's solo interviews and find him SO fascinating, but there's an undercurrent of melancholy and loneliness, especially in his later interviews. He seemed resigned to the single life. Perhaps Frid felt it best to stay under the radar during his Dark Shadows fame. It WAS the 60's and being gay was still illegal. I do think he was a very private man who preferred a quiet lifestyle and enjoyed quiet pursuits - reading, cooking, listening to music, gardening. He described himself as a "happy loner." (I GET it because I'm one as well.) I also think he was completely devoted to his craft, just really, REALLY loved it. He said his "most content years" were traveling to various towns and cities doing his one-man shows - "Fools and Fiends", etc. It was certainly a much saner pace than his prior DS days, no pages and pages of dialogue to memorize daily. When Frid wasn't on-the-road, he loved "just being at home" and gardening. He was a "treehugger" and very proud of the beautiful maple tree behind his house in Ancaster, Ontario. In a DS documentary on the grounds of Seaview Terrace where they did the exterior shots for "Collinwood", Jonathan momentarily stopped to point at and comment TWICE on the beauty of a magnificent, ancient oak tree. 😪 (We have such an oak in our backyard in GA and it takes my breath away. It's over 100 ft. tall and must be at least 200 years old.) It touched my heart when Jonathan stopped to comment on the beauty of that tree. In an interview in later years, he said David Selby called him out of the blue to get together, but he wasn't up for it. Although he enjoyed seeing former DS castmates, he told David that he pretty much "lived in his robe" - and was "actually wearing it at this moment!" 😄 He told David he "didn't get out much these days." I read that he ate his meals everyday at the nearby Sammy's Family Bar and Grill in Ancaster. He liked the warm, cozy casual ambience - and anonymity. The staff there said Jonathan would come through the door, doing his little jig and waving his wolfshead cane in the air! 🤣 He didn't want - or expect - "any fuss" and would just give a little wave or nod if someone recognized him. He was confident in his acting abilities (RADA London, Yale), but the humblest of artists. Sammy's held a little wake for their most loyal customer, at the restaurant, a few days after he died - "no fuss", just the way Jonathan would have liked it. At his request, there was no funeral. RIP Jonathan. We still love and will always miss you. 🧛‍♂️🦇🖤

@Marilyn Willett I agree! Kathryn Leigh Scott had a tendency to take over these interviews to plug her latest book or act as "Dark Shadows historian." Sure, she has a lot of knowledge because she was there, but let your castmates talk. Without Jonathan Frid, her career at Dark Shadows would have been over in a year! I think Jonathan Frid was very tolerant and gracious in these moments. Frid was a Class Act! 🙄

I just found this post about Jonathan Frid from a large Facebook Grp >>>>>
"" Mr. Frid was a proud Canadian. When he retired he moved back to Ontario Canada where he had family and many friends. Jonathan Frid never married ( obviously ) and he never had any children. However, he was survived by his beloved cousins and his brother's children, and by his Grand niece and nephews who loved and adored him. They called him 'Uncle John'. He was dearly loved.
Mr. Frid was not a religious man so there was no ceremony after he died. He never liked to be fussed over and he did not want a funeral nor a memorial. He preferred to be remembered alive and enjoying life. Mr. Frid did not want a final resting place in fear of the many obsessive fans he had who would seek out the grave of 'Barnabas Collins' and set up memorials and write graffiti about his character. He didn't want fans to put him up on a pedestal like a movie idol. He never wanted that kind of attention.
Jonathan Frid said that many fans had trouble separating him, the actor from the character he had played. Fans would address him as Barnabas instead of his real name and they'd ask him a lot of 'vampire' related questions. He did not want those kinds of obsessive fans to bother his relatives .
Mr. Frid would often say that he was nothing like his Barnabas character. He also stated several times that he would like to be remembered for more than just his work on Dark Shadows. He had twenty years of acting experience before he even appeared on the TV show and several years of doing dramatic readings in his reader's theater and in his one-man shows and his tour with the play, Arsenic and Old Lace with actors Marion Ross, Jean Stapleton and Larry Storch. Mr. Jonathan Frid was so much more than just his Barnabas character. R I P .""

ALSO Marilyn, YOU are extremely disrespectful with your many anti gay comments on other video posts and in those two FB grps Disrespectful to the the many gay people that worked on that show. Frid as a gay man would never have found you as a hater attractive.

In those days, as a woman it wasn't easy to find a job that paid enough to support living in NYC while auditioning. I'm a native NY-er, trying to live in the city is hella expensive, and it was back then, too. In the 60s there weren't a lot of choices for would-be actresses other than waitressing, which usually allowed for a more flexible schedule than being a secretary, which was the only other readily available job. Lots of women worked for the Playboy Club for the pay; not a choice I could have made, but it's not fair to bash someone for what they did to get by. BTW being gay isn't a "lifestyle."

It was interesting to see how many of the male actors in Dark Shadows were gay, and this was at a time when tolerance levels in television were quite low. It was widely acknowledged that Jonathan Frid was closeted, but Louis Edmonds (Roger Collins) openly lived with a partner while hosting lavish dinner parties at their home on Long Island. Joel Crothers (Joe Haskell) and a couple of other actors were also gay, and one of them succumbed to AIDS. This is another way DS was a groundbreaking show.
