- A short video of photos of Dark Shadows cast and crew members that have passed away. This was shown at the Dark Shadows Festival on June 26, 2016, a day before Dark Shadows' 50th anniversary. It's inevitable that we would lose so many wonderful people in 50 years. It's even more moving to hear the applause from the audience. One glaring omission... Art Wallace.

YOU KNOW IT WAS NEVER CLEAR WHAT HAPPENED WITH DENISE..SHE SEEMED COHERENT IN ALL THE INTERVIEWS...POSSIBLY BI POLAR WITH ANOREXIA...SHE WAS SUMPTUOUS IN HER INTERVIEW 20 OR MORE YRS AGO..HAPPY AND UPBEAT.
And, sadly also lost during 2021 were Diana Millay, Christopher Pennock, Robert Rodan and Geoffrey Scott.

I had no idea so many had passed away. Watching this I kinda thought that Jonathan would be the last one. He made that show what it became and no one could replace him. No one.

Joan Bennett was a huge star to have been associated with that show with a long and successful film career. So well cast as The Matriarch, Elizabeth Stoddard. And very beautiful.

Agreed. I knew she'd been a movie star, but not until I got into film noirs did I realize she played quite a few femme fatale roles. Check out "The Lady in the Window" or "Scarlet Street" (both very similar with same cast of her and Edward G. Robinson and Dan Duryea)

I was in tears by the time Jonathan Frid came up. I was seven when "Dark Shadows" came out. I - along with my two neighbors a little younger than I - would be glued to my neighbor's TV set every weekly afternoon. The fact that this show has a cult following & is still watched after all these years is a testament to its modern relevance. RIP, cast & crew. Ya'll were part of something extraordinary & wonderful.

we were so lucky...a part of something special I was 14 my best friend and I would run home from school every day to watch dark shadows!!! when one family went on vacation the other friend would write down what happened ( no recording devices back then)
Grayson Hall after Jonathan Frid got the loudest applause for good reason! She rocks! LOVED her as Magda!

No matter what you do in life, it's so much appreciated to be acknowledged by others for the work you did.
I was misty-eyed watching it,I grew up on "Dark Shadows" I could not wait to get home from school, especially if David Selby (Gorgeous Quentin Collins 💗) was in a particular episode. I have a Streaming Service on my TV which allows to watch "Dark Shadows" from the very first one until the very last one. Thank you so much for this sweet reminder of those wonderful actors and actresses who brought me joy during that time. Rest in peace My friends,although,I never really knew you.

I used to run home from school to watch this.Really loved this show and all the characters. It was a magical show about people's lives turned upside down by supernatural forces beyond their understanding and all the mischievous going ons in their lives. We got a glimpse into their fascinating and tragic lives that will haunt us with fond memories forever in the Dark Shadows of our minds.
RIP Dad and his being a fan made me a fan at a very young age. The show is too painful to watch at the moment

I was 10 when Dark Shadows was first aired ! Miss Jonathan Frid so very much ! Miss the others who have passed on too but it was so much sadder when Jonathan Frid passed away !

I was only two years old when Dark Shadow’s first episode came out. I didn’t know how to tell time, but my mother told me I knew when it would come on because I would plant myself right in front of the television.

I really loved that show.
It felt like a final curtain call honouring all those actors and crew members who played a very big role in the development of Dark Shadows 1966-71. A fine tribute to them all.

First, you see actors, musicians and athletes you admired as a kid departing this mortal coil. And, then you see see childhood friends and siblings beginning to die along with your parents and other relatives.
Then you get a keen sense of your own mortality. It’s the inevitable circle of life.
What a great group of writers, actors, crew, etc. that made Dark Shadows the incredible show that it was, and still is.
The ultimate memorial to them all, they'll never be forgotten

I am on season 1, episode 30 and I can’t stop watching!! I was two in 1966 so obviously don’t remember. I asked my mom if she watched and she said she did, religiously. She loved it. I can see why it has such a big following, even here in 2019. I can’t exactly define why except the actors are so charming, they play their characters wonderfully and there is such a reality to the show. I wish I would’ve discovered it sooner.
Matthew Young glad you discovered it. Better late than never. However, you missed potentially seeing and meeting many of the actors (who have passed on) at the Dark Shadows Festivals. Still, there are occasional DS events such as the screening of the new Dan Curtis documentary two weeks ago in NYC. Plus, several of the DS actors are available as potential friends on Facebook. And there are countless fans to share your enthusiasm, many of whom have DS parties and meetings in their localities. Welcome to the extended Collins family!

On an episode of The Twilight zone called a game of pool, one of the characters said as long as people keep talking about you, you are not really dead. I think this also holds true for these people who created such a memorable time capsule of American psyche. I never get tired of watching this show.
+Rest in peace, all of you wonderful actors and staff who so captivated even the youngest of audiences.
I'm sitting here with tears running down my face, all these great people were a huge part of my life as a kid and now so many are gone.
Cast and crew came together and created something that can never be replicated, such bittersweet memories but thanks to UA-cam i can go back and recapture what is now long gone.

What really sad is some of them died while still young. All fabulous actors that gave their audience hours of joy. I just finished watching the series for the first time on Tubi. I was only a kid when this came out and wasn't interested at that time. Now I am retired and have all the time in the world. I love it so much, I would love to watch it all over again.
In grad school, I used to run home to see each episode. A friend of mine was taking a directing degree at the University of Iowa, and studied the blocking on Dark Shadows. He talked me into taking a part an acting play for his class. Quite an experience and lots of fun.
It's remarkable that Mitch Ryan is stilla live, he's the same age as my Mom, God bless them both. Burke was my favorite character until Barnabas took over the show, but I really did love just about all of the actors in the series. Casting was magnificent for a "soap opera". I just realised that harvey Keitel got his start on the show, as a dancer in the Blue Whale in season 1. I'm rewatching again on Amazon, since YT is too stingy to play any of the episodes, and some great folks had their channels wiped out.

Mitchell Ryan was one of the best actors on that early version of the show. When dark shadows went to full color it was not as interesting. Black and white was the most effective artistic medium
It took me about 2 1/2 years to,watch EVERYTHING, the before movies and the whole series. Now I would watch it again!!!

Wow! I ran home after school to watch Dark Shadows! I Loved Quentin and Angelique and of course Barnabas Collins! I always loved the music in the begining of the show! And the haunting melody they played! I watched every episode and the movies made! When I was 15 my cousin and his wife came to our house in Monson and brought the whole collection of Dark Shadows paper back books I read them all I couldn't put them down! I loved how well they were written! The books came to life when I read them! I read the book Angelique's Resent by Laura Parker I loved how she wrote the book! Her discriptions of her life as a child growing up and the cave she played in was so AWSOME as I read the book it came to life and I was there! AWSOME BOOK! Thank you So Much 💕

Dark shadows was the Harry Potter of today.
My youth was very dark and use to watch this show.I was headed in the wrong direction but then I got saved.The Lord directed me to stop watching as a bornagain Christian.Maybe it was ok for others but it was not for me.Darkness is not ok but the light is wonderful.😇
I'm watching DS on Pluto TV. They have a DS channel and it runs 24/7. Like many others here, I was a huge fan when I was a kid. I'm 58 now. I never knew that Abe Vigoda was on the show. I guess I missed them episodes. Thank you to all the cast and crew that made DS a special part in the lives of millions of people.

I never went to a Dark Shadows Fest wish I did !
I was there at the Festival. The only thing I wish they had done on this slideshow is to have included the role(s) each person had played along with their photo. Other than the main stars, many, many others, I could not recall.
That would have been nice.
I don't remember Abe Vagoda (sp) being in the show; what role did he play? And there were a few others I was surprised were also in it. I was only 11 at the time.
I also don't remember Abe Vagoda on the show unless he was one of the zombies chaseing Barnabas and Julia as they went to Quentin's staircase.... only other thing I can think of is he was part of the crew behind the camera. since the tribute is for Cast and Crew.

I wasn't even born when Dark Shadows was on (19661971 I believe) and I wasn't even born until February 5th1974. My dad got me hooked on this show back in the 1990s and have been a fan ever since.my main favorite will always will be Jonathan Frid

most of the surviving cast & crew in attendance at the 50th, especially, certainly those that i could see seated nearby me, as well as myself among many of us in the room on that final day of the June 2016 DS Fest were wiping away tears
Sad seeing how many are gone. I wish I had gone to a convention in the 90s when most of them were still around. Love that show. Probably for the best that the CW cancelled its plans to reboot.
I'm glad they didn't go through with the remake. Because CW like to show a lot of skin and violence they definitely would have ruined it.

Barnabas was always my favorite, hands down, but I have such fond memories of this show, and everyone connected with it. I was in tears as I watched this presentation... so many greats, gone. :(

I was one when dark shadows came out. I was 6 when it was completed and 71. I can’t remember watching about 5/6 years old with my mother.
I don't really remember many of these people. I was maybe about 7 or so when I watched and didn't watch that much. It was on after school. I used to like Barnabus, lol. Heard the theme in my head earlier tonight for some reason and decided to play it here on youtube and heard the words for the first time. I've always loved the theme, Quentin's Theme.

5:20 Someone somewhere, maybe when he was just three or four years old, but they told Dennis Patrick he was cute or a charmer with his dimples, and he carried that all through life and thought it gave him all the personality he needed.

Currently on episode #602. Haven't met all the characters some of the more notable played. I was 9 when I started watching it, hurrying from the school bus to miss as little as possible!
Jonathan Frid was the straw that stirred the drink of that show!
Dark Shadows is showing on the Decades over-the-air stations. Right now it is at the part when Dr. Hoffman began her experimental research on Barnabas. It is just a couple of episodes into the color episodes.
If they do remembrance they should show who they were on the show
And date they passed!

Just discovered this gem. Hard to believe it's been so many years since DARK SHADOWS debuted. Always came home from school, eager to see what was going on at Collinwood🏰. Absolute favorite was Joan Bennett as ELIZABETH COLLINS STODDARD! DARK SHADOWS has returned again and again in two films, an attempted prime time reboot and once again on film with cameos by original cast members! Will DARK SHADOWS once again 👻 arise? 🏰 SHADOWS of the NIGHT calling you to me!

I didn't see Mark Allen who preceded David Ford as the first Sam Evans. He played Sam Evans for the character's first 7 appearances. He died in 2003.

I bought entire series n mark allen was original sam evans. This may sound odd but lela swift had a problem w him in trousers n dan curtis liked him. Google that. Anyway david ford seemed much better actor but i felt bad for mark being replaced after so few episodes well R.I.P. to both and thank you😙😙😙
I saw Elizabeth Wilson (played the role of Mrs. Hopewell from orphanage that Victoria grew up in) wasn't included, even though she was seen in only 2 episodes (episodes 1 and 8).
Interesting bit of soap trivia... Hugh Franklin and Louis Edmunds, after Dark Shadows, went on to have long runs on ABC soap All My Children... Franklin played the role of Charles Tyler from first episode in 1970 till his death in 1986... Edmunds, although wasn't part of AMC's original cast, played the role of Langley Wallingford till his retirement in 1995, some 6 years before his death in 2001... even both characters were married to Phoebe English Tyler Wallingford, played by the legendary Ruth Warrick.

Vias The 1991 version was good and the d.s. movies were good after that it was be time to to be stop messing with Dan's masterpiece.
