Dark Shadows Favorite Cast Members: Joan Bennett and Louis Edmonds

- Cast and crew members have a lot to say about Joan Bennett and Louis Edmonds who have both passed on. Joan Bennett was dearly loved by cast and crew. For fun, a part of a Mike Douglas interview with Joan Bennett in 1970 is included. Louis Edmonds’ interview at the end of the segment confirms what cast member and production staff members have said about him.
With the release of Dark Shadows on videotape and DVD, MPI Video included a series of about 120 interviews that were recorded over a period of years. One of these 5-10 minute interviews would play at the end of each DVD. Those interviewed included Dan Curtis, the Creator/Executive Producer, as well as Directors, Cameramen, and many other crew members. There were also a number of interviews of some of our favorite cast members.
I found these interviews fascinating. As I viewed them, I found that themes emerged, likely because those being interviewed were asked the same questions. These themes included: how did you come to Dark Shadows, who were some of your favorite cast members (asked of production and crew members as well), what was it like to be a part of, and why do you think it lasted. Many other questions were geared to the person being interviewed that created some great content. These themes led me to the videos that I have put together. I have a long list so expect more to come. I call the series In Their Own Words because the people being interviewed are telling the whole story. There is the sadness that some of our favorite cast members: Joel Crothers, Grayson Hall, Thayer David, and Joan Bennett passed away before the series of interviews was started. - Розваги
Miss Bennett was CLASS PERSONIFIED. What a lovely lady.
Joan was a youthful 61 here. She was really a living doll: classy and sans ego
She could have dressed a bit younger and that hair style, too old, even then. She was so pretty at 60/61.
Why is it that the stars of old Hollywood like Miss Bennett had so much more class than those of today’s Hollywood do? We no longer have stars, we only have actors-and most of them not worth the price of a ticket.
I WISH we had more filmed interviews with Joan Bennett.
I agree. I didn't ever attend any of the conventions, but I understand that she was there for many of conventions signing autographs and greeting fans. Amazing that she stayed with the series for 5 year.
Joan Bennett will always be the star of this show. She had the hollywood record and the pedigree.
Absolutely.
I think having an actress and colleague of Joan Bennett's stature inspired many actors to rise up and do their very best! Jonathan Frid also brought so much experience from what I understand he had many years in the theater and performing Shakespeare.
It was a magic that happened when the entire cast, Don and the crew came together.
Joan Bennett was a true professional, truly a beautiful person RIP🦇🐾🐈⬛
Louis Edmonds was such a gentleman RIP🐾🐈⬛🦇
I Loved Dark Shadows
Joan Bennett as ELIZABETH COLLINS STODDARD and Louis Edmonds as ROGER COLLINS were so perfect as the aristocratic residents of COLLINWOOD🏰 . Loved the dynamic between them! RIP.
What a beautiful, talented caring human being.
I watching all 1245 episodes from 4/2020-1/2021... a great show.
Thank you for creating this UA-cam series about the characters of Dark Shadows! I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of them. It is so interesting to hear all of these back stories!
Thank you so much. I'm working on a David Selby/Lara Parker piece that should be up in the next few days.
My uncle Mike Douglas did one of the best interviews with Joan on his Talk Show when Dark Shadows was in Production and,I got to go to New York with my aunt to see Dark Shadows in Production and to Joan come over and say hello to us and introduced us to Jonathan Grid, Lara Parker, Katherine Lee Scott and the others. I was very lucky that my aunt who was Mike's Liason for Group W and Westinghouse took real nice pictures of Joan and I when I was little. She was a really nice person.
This was so lovely to watch. Hugs.
Thank you so much for your comment and for the hugs!
Always appreciated the fact that this lovely woman had the opportunity to bridge generations through her appearance in the 1990 revival of DARK SHADOWS on NBC.
I remember watching episodes during its short run as a kid. Didn't know until my adult years that the cancelation of the revival was partiality due to constant preemptions of the series to cover The Persian Gulf War.
David Selby as Scrooge (LOL 😆!) Hard to imagine how that would happen. I watched this Video and loved it. Thanks for entertaining me.
I didn't know Morton Downey, Jr. was Joan Bennett's nephew.
Loved this show. Loved the actors
And the story lines. Had a crush on.the vampire. He was a hottie
such a gracious and beautiful lady!
The scenes between Edward (Louis Edmonds) and Quentin (David Selby) were great. I also loved it when in 1840 Gabriel (Christopher Pennock) is speaking to his dying father Daniel and spilling his heart in a way he could never have done if Daniel (Louis Edmonds) had not been dying.
Love that scene.😍
Great job on these wish you made them longer. Thanks
Thank you for sharing! I am feeling closer than before to the stars of the show.
Thanks for these great compilations!! To every fellow Dark Shadows fan out there interested in knowing more about Joan Bennett, I highly recommend the podcast "Love is a Crime". Although they don't get their DS facts perfectly, it's a great bio
Thank your for your comments on my compilations. I also appreciate the tip on Love is a Crime!
Thanks for posting. Damn, but I LOVE Joan Bennett ! I truly think I would have liked her as a Friend...you can feel the warmth, intelligence and inner strength and discipline of her personality. Im more familiar with her movies from the 30s right down her Mama roles in Reckless Moment and Father of the Bride. Im just re - discovering her Television performances that caught as a kid watching DS in the 70s.
I didn't really see many of her movies. I find it fascinating that she was a top pick for Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. I hope that you are enjoying your DS viewing.
Joan Bennett was a genuinely lovely person, both inside and out. She was a very talented and versatile actress. So sorry she is no longer with us.
@@darkshadowsfansunite8140 You should explore, when you get the chances, Joan's earlier pictures to see how she Evolved / Matured as an actress from the blonde and sometime Bland ingenue (she's glamourous and charming but the roles are banal) to the Raven-haired Femme Fatale, the period most of her fans are exposed to and love. Many of her films are now Film Studies viewing staples. Ive seen the Scarlett screen test-----being a Top star she had to be granted an audition but she would have been "Miscast", she doesnt not display the capriciousness and perversity for a Southern belle. Cheers
Joan Benett is wonderful actress and Woman 🥰🥰🥰 See Man Hunt Scarlet Street
Beautiful lady and very professional she was very classy loved her seeing on the DS my favorite
“…now that was funny!”, dear Louis Edmonds.
He was an utter delight.
Im binge watching DS this summer(2024),never seen it before. I do remember it being on after school when I was 7-8 years old. But Im addicted to it ,its like watching a really great play. Tubi shows it with only 2 short commercial breaks on each episode. I'm really enjoying watching it. All such great actors and story lines.💯👍👍
I wish I knew Louis Edmonds. If I was younger and a familiar to Fire Island, I'm sure I would have camped it up with with him.
Requiescat in Pace, Joan Bennett & Louis Edmonds - Blessed Be.
Joan Bennett was absolutely gorgeous in her youth. Never knew that she stooped to do the cheesy vampire soap Dark Shadows. That show was way beneath her acting status. What a beautiful face she had. My goodness.
There was a thought that a movie star was stepping down in their profession to do TV. Once in Hollywood. But as most ppl can remember now. Actors do everything now. Tv is done one day. A movie is done the next. Common practice.
I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch it. An it always had a cliffhanger on fridays.😮
Sad that these guys dud not show the whole interview with Mike Douglas but I posted her whole interview with Mike years ago on UA-cam and just put Mike Douglas and Joan Bennett in field line.
sweet louis!
I agree. Seeing him in his later years after cancer is tough, but his spirit was still strong.
Joan was a good actress and liked Louis Emounds and loved the whole gang and was 10 till I was 14 while Dark Shadows was on 1966 till 1971.
Joan was wonderful yes
How to make a tight-assed, New England Brahmin human and sympathetic? Louis Edmonds. He was wonderful.
Absolutely!!
Loved her so beautiful and her in father of the bride with liz taylor
Her last role was spooky too…Suspiria. She died shortly after that
