- Dark Shadows cast members Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker, and Kathryn Leigh Scott are interviewed together in a daytime TV appearance broadcast 6-27-91. The BetaGems channel also has "Come Die With Me 1974 TV movie Dan Curtis, George Maharis," "Nightmare At 43 Hillcrest 1974 TV Movie Dan Curtis John Karlen," "Invasion of Carol Enders 1973 Dan Curtis, Meredith Baxter, John Karlen," "Dan Curtis TV and movie commercials 1970s-1980s," "Dark Shadows 1970s TV ads products & syndication," "Jonathan Frid Arsenic & Old Lace TV ad May 1987 San Diego" and clips of Leigh Scott in "June Lockhart hosts Pilot Playhouse 1992."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on UA-cam or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.
Actually Jonathan Frid's Barnabas character saved Dark Shadows from being canceled!!👍 Loved this show!!! Would hurry home from school to watch it!!😊 Good memories!! 💖
RIP Jonathan Frid 💕
RIP Lara Parker 💕
Dark Shadows was the BEST gothic show in the country and the world!!
I love Dark Shadows. It is beyond Awesome 👍👍👍👍
R.I.P Lara Parker
Even in spite of the flubbed lines, flimsy sets, visible microphone booms, and dead peoples' eyes moving, the show made you overlook all that.
@@joaodomingoscustodio6247I was sad to hear of her passing. I had such a crush on her as a kid.
They were great actors.
All them.
I love " Dark Shadows " !
When the doors of the bus opened, everybody sprinted home so they wouldn't miss the beginning of the show..every single day.
Jonathan Frid was a rock star when he came on as Barnabas Collins
Lara Parker, the most intense eyes ever captured on film! Gorgeous!
The intro with the waves on the rocks and the spooky music - heaven.
@llongdong: that is very dangerously beautiful
I, too, used to run home from school to watch this!
Now in 2020 all 'five' years of the show can be seen for free on the Tubi TV website starting with the listing "Dark Shadows the Beginning."
Lol,this was literally so true!...books were thrown off to the side on the couch😂
I get too. I was so in love with Barnabas and Quentin
Did
I had to run home to , before my mother got home. She did not want me to watch it 🤬
Both ladies look great.
Barnabas and his 2 ladies!!❤❤❤
What a show, there was no hanging around after school. Parents knew just where their kids was, in front of tv, 3:30 pm watching Dark Shadows.
I was running from school to see Dark Shadows!
You lived up east, right ??
All three 25 years later looked great. Angelique & Maggy my favorites as a kid. Lara Parker , Katherine Leigh Scott still so beautiful and Jonathan Frid so charming.
My babysitter turned me on to Dark Shadows...I think I was 5!! And yes, I ran home from school to watch it!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What great memories running home to see Dark Shadows. Time flew im 62. What a great life !!!
It didn't come on in '62.
@@lauravonutassy1919
He said HE was 62 when he wrote the comment.
I will never forget running home from school to be able to watch each episode and it was great!!!
Same here!
Me too!!!! Im still watching at 60!!
@@caroline5421me too
I'm 59 now and remember running home by 3:30 just to watch every episode!
Nearly 60 years later and people are still watching
Those two ladies are still beautiful in 2020!
R.I.P. Mr. Frid!
You are correct they still are and yes RIP to J.F.
@@CoachDarren Darren...Not surprising that Jonathon was clearly wary of such a woman...he was gay you know
Rip all fans like my mother and grandmother and the cast that are no longer with us
They are.
Always thought it ironic that he died on Friday the 13th.
I’m sad that a lot of the stars are gone now in 2023. I’m 63and still love this!!!
It is a great show. Watching it now. So many episodes to keel going for awhile. I would watch this on rerun as a kid. It was a little bit before my time. But I am a huge fan. Been reading up on the characters. A lot have passed.
Jonathan is such a nice man!!!
My fav show as a child, still today. Named my dog after him.
Haha. My wife and I have a Belgium Shepherd and we wanted an exotic name for him. Barnabas is perfect.
This interview is a hoot!! Jonathan had such a great sense of humor!
I can just imagine the fun that Frid had with Louis Edmonds on the few occasions that they went to Nightclubs in Greenwich Village in NY. Frid could be quite the party animal. He was nothing at all like his Barnabas character.
Love him!❤
I would have loved to have been there
Yes, they both were gay. I wonder if they went to "The Monster" ? I have seen photos of them together on the beach on Fire Island.@@thejupiter2574
I was 3 years old when this show aired. My grandmother and I would watch it together when I visited my grandparents. She would say it's time for "Shadows" and park us right in front of the tv on an ottoman and we would watch together. I now own the entire collection and love re watching it all these years later.
Yes, watched it everyday after school. Brings back so many good memories ❤
I loved that show. Still do.
Like everyone else, I couldn’t wait to get home from school to watch the show. Best part of growing up in the 60’s.
I used to run home from school everyday to watch this show I loved it when I was a kid and now I'm watching it all over again what 50 years later on UA-cam
I used to watch Dark Shadows with my kids. Loved that show. Never missed an episode. Loved all the characters
Jonathan❤🌷RIP. Kathryn says he was the best vampire the world has ever seen, so true. And Jonathan had the sexiest 'wink' the world ever saw too 😉
She also said he was the best kisser of all the men.
@@marilynwillett804 and he was gay. Great actor!
Oh he sure did have the sexiest wink. He was dripping with class n charisma. He was incredible, and soooooo unique

@@samsmith4216 His fans know about these two facts.
I discovered this series on Pluto TV and have been watching it on my Christmas vacation break every day about 6 episodes a day straight.
I was born in the early 70's so I didn't watch it back in the day, but about 3-4 years ago I started watching it after hearing so much throughout the years about it. 🧛♀️🖤🧛
Thanks mr. Dan curtis productions for dark shadows. 2020
The women were gorgeous. What a great show. I’m binge watching again on Amazon Prime.
Dan actually did one of the last movies that Betty Davis was in called Burnt Offerings circa 1970 I believe. If you watched enough Dark Shadows you would recognize it was one of Curtis' productions in the first 10 minutes!!
@@philipancell516 .THANKS.
Actress / author Lara Parker is still quite beautiful today and so is actress / author Kathryn L. Scott. Lara Parker wrote four fictional books about Dark Shadows. They were all wonderful stories about the characters and about the background of her character Angelique the Witch. Her books sold so well that they had to be reprinted.
I read Angelique's Descent....Loved it!
I have one of them. Angeliques descent. Good book.
I used to watch it in my country at 1am 40 years ago and now I am watching it again😊😊😊
As a young boy , my brother and sister would scare the hell out of me , with dark shadows, now getting close
To 58years , my wife and I
Watch dark shadows
Every day, were on season 15
Episode 777 , can't get enough of dark shadows.
Together. Great Cast
I watched as a child in the 60's. And just discovered DARK SHADOWS again STREAMED on PLUTO CH. 353!!❤❤❤
Lauri Graves ran home from school as a kid to watch! Now staying up late to binge! Enjoying it so much now as I did then. Barnabas is sexy as ever!
I just finished the ENTIRE tv series of Dark Shadows on Amazon Prime Video!!! I remember watching the series while in college. The dorm lounge was PACKED each day the show was on. It was SOOOOOO popular.
I am watching it now. I love it.
I went to a Dark Shadows convention in New York in 1997. It was a lot of fun, it lasts for a few days.
Johnathan Frid is so adorable!
Johnathan had the it factor. Even as a little girl, he just meant something to me.
Love the show.
The 91 reboot was going to be good but NBC wouldn't leave it alone. I was so disappointed when they killed it.
Im 44 and currently watching DS for the first time, I’m on episode 564/1225
Frid was the star, it would have been nothing without him.
It was a snore before he arrived about a year after it started.
I lost a lot of sleep at nights as a 6 to 11 yr. old.
Frid was to Dark Shadows what joan collins was to Dynasty and Donna Mills was to knots landing. None of them were there from the first episode but came later and saved their shows.
I couldn't agree more!
Or Anjelique or a few of the stars
The two First Ladies of Dark Shadows...wow...
Enjoyed watching my sisters and brothers and myself all came home from school and looked forward to watching, we loved these three actors the most and Julia 😍😀
I love that show and I always make sure I got home from school in time to see it. came on around three thirty. Who could forget the hand of the Count Petofi. Barnabas Collins, Angelique and Quinton Collins were all just so super cool
My mom wouldn't let my brother & I watch DS out of fear that we'd have nightmares. When she got a part time job in the afternoon she'd drop us off with a babysitter & guess what show she watched regularly?! We never told our mom that we watched it with her!
I was at the convention in California. I had such a good time. I was a big fan of the show. I also went to the convention in New York in the fall. It was at the Vista Hotel at the World Trade Center. Ten years later the the World Trade Center was gone.
❤ RIP to Jonathan and Lara. ❤
I think Lara Parker was the most beautiful of the DS women
Yes.. Mesmerizing.❤
She absolutely was ❤
She also played her part totally convincingly
She’s a stunner
I have to respectfully disagree and say Katherine Lee-Scott was. Not to mention Scott's beauty held up for years. KLS is even stunning here in this video...
Did anyone else wear headphones to listen to this interview, and notice that only the left channel is working here?
Check out that entry!!! Go ahead Barnabas
I remember watching this every day with my mother, and I had to have a rosery hanging from my bed's headboard so Barnabas couldn't bite me, lol.
Haha.. I used to watched this when it was a rerun in the 90s.. When I was 9!
I introduced my son to it. He was a second generation fan. He grew up on tales from the crypt and other scary shows.
the show ended in 1971 and I discovered Black Sabbath that same year- coincident? I think not.
Jonathan Frid was very close friends with actress / author Lara Parker. She was one of his favorites along with Grayson Hall. I remember that awesome DS Festival convention in Los Angeles. The convention had guest actors from the 1991 series. The audience in the Ballrooms at the LA Marriott was huge. There were a ton of new fans there, they were the second generation of DS fans. They were introduced to the show by watching the reruns on the old SyFy Channel which had a lot of old classic shows on their station. Fird said he hated those big bite scenes on the show and in the DS movie. Frid hated House of Dark Shadows .
I also hated HODS, He was too brutal, nothing charming about him at all. The way he killed poor Carolyn and beat Willie.
@@marilynwillett804 He was brutal on the show at first. He was even going to kill little David Collins. And he also beat Willie with his cain. That part of the film was adapted from the show.
Yes Frid too hated the House of Dark Shadows movie because Curtis directed him to play the blood thirsty killer. Frid hated that and what they did with his character in the movie. Because of that, Frid turned down the offer from Curtis to do the DS movie sequel. That pissed off Curtis and ended their friendship. also by that time late 1970 Frid no longer wanted to play the vampire anymore and feared negative type casting , which was to late by then. In 1971 on the show they had Frid play a different role, the Human son of Barnabas named Bramwell. The movie House of DS is how Dan Curtis would have wanted the vampire to have been on the show and then killed off because the Barnabas character was only meant to have been temporary in the beginning, on the show.
We actually did run home home every day from school to watch, starting in 1967, big part of our childhood. Great to see them all happy and joking. Frid usually was so serious and foreboding. I went up to ABC studios in NYC once in 1968 there was a bunch of people hanging out to meet them when they came out.
Did you get to meet them ??
MY sister ME and some friends would always GET together after school and also IN the summer ( instead of being outside enjoying the weather) would always GET together and watch "Dark Shadows"!!!!!!!!!!! It WAS always a thrilling part of our day ESPECIALLY in the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got to go to this convention. It was a super fun time!
Always wanted to go. But I was working and busy.I would have loved to meet some of the actors.
When I was a kid I was to scared to watch. Now I am watching it on Decades and I am having a ball.
I didn’t run home from school,I left because the show came on at 2: o’clock, and I didn’t get out of school until 2:30
Miss you Jonathan and Lara!
I have this on VHS . Recorded and watched when this aired
I'm glad you do. The stars kind of glossed over the fact that the 'new' Dark Shadows of earlier 1991 only aired from January to March and was cancelled. This interview aired in late June.
See I remember taking my kids to school every morning and having to be home really quick from the bus stop so I can get to watch dark shadows this was a long time ago too I watched every episode twice in a row when the episode was over after about 2 years I watched it again for 2 years and I must have cried when it was over permanently I think I'm going to watch it right now
That story about Sam Evans was hilarious! 😂
Agreed! Every time I watch old episodes with his character now, I can't help but think of that final scene and laugh --
I can see why I had such a major crush on these two most beautiful women. Lara Parker with those gorgeous eyes and Kathryn Leigh Scott had some of the meanest legs in TV history.
Good interview. Never knew Rick Dees did a talk show.
Barabas the best vampire
….much better than ‘Kiss of the Vampire’ Tom Cruise!
In my country it was translated to spanish and the voice actor was great, very similar to the original.
OMG is this the guy that sang "Disco Duck" ??? LMAO
It is "inDEES"!!!!😂😂😂😂
I wasnt allowed to watch this as a child ( too scarey)...but I remember my cousins running home from school to watch. I was only in elementary school. However, during this at home time we are living, I re-discovered this. I for, the first time, am watching this series. I am on the episode 359 of the traditional season (they have separated the seasons: the first 300 or so episodes were the early story). Julia is starting to go crazy. How funny binge watching Dark Shadows in 2020, Love the early plot lines and the various mysteries in the early seasons!
I am too watching it and I’m in love with the show and I’m only 29 years old :)
I get it when you say that you weren't allowed to watch the show because it was too scary for your young mind back in the day--which I interpret to mean that your parents didn't let you watch it.
When you say that you were "only in elementary school" during the show's original run,
you wouldn't believe how many other kids who were avid fans were also just in elementary school.
I certainly was (I was born in 1961), and trust me, I wasn't the only kid who by the age of 5 was watching the show during its first year on-air (by virtue of the fact that my 15-year-old babysitter was addicted to it), by the age of 6 was hooked on it, and by the age of 7 was running home from school to watch it--which I did for several years, until the end of the series in 1971.
I think Dark Shadows will live on long after all of us are gone, and will likely be reincarnated again--perhaps successfully as a series (or movies) that honor the spirit of the original series in the future (unlike the Johnny Depp movie, which didn't, IMHO).
I too, am rewatching the entire series, which I have purchased on DVD. The series comes as 26 "seasons" on DVD in a box set, which is a "casket" that opens to show an image of Barnabas, and all of the DVD's are contained therein.
I'm on episode 463 (on 10-14-2020).
Victoria has just arrived back to 1968 after being hanged as a witch in 1795.
I'm taking it kind of slow, watching multiple episodes sometimes, and then sometimes I'm taking breaks and going days or even weeks in between watching episodes. I started in 2018, and I imagine it'll be a few years into the future before I'm done with the entire series.
It's iconic.
It's nostalgic.
And vampires who don't make it back to their coffins before sunrise don't make it.
What more do you want in a $300 box set of a show from the 1960's?.......
Yes, I rushed home after school to watch DARK SHADOWS, in 1967 age 14, I also loved the the eerie intro with waves crashing on the rocky Maine coast, and fantasized about living there one day. Now at age 70, I do!!!
Barnabus was the original vampire. He started the genre. Everything since is built on what he did.
Was 10. Loved it. Have watched all the episodes on Netflix when I was home from a work injury.
Binge watching AGAIN,Lol…..everybody usually says it,but it’s true,me and my brothers would get off the bus and rush in to get the next episode…hated when it was pre-empted and there was something else on instead…Friday cliffhangers were especially exciting
Lived close to school..missed first minutes..loved it
R.I.P. Johnathan and Lara Parker.
Everybody ran home from school way ahead of It's time ....a horror soap opera spooky then now really campy but fun.
As a kid, run or no run, I always missed the first scene of every episode. Fortunately, since the first scene generally tended to be a reenactment of the last scene of the previous episode, it really wasn't that much of a loss.
If you have the series on home video, you can compare the closers to the openers. Sometimes one or the other was the better take.
Awesome guys
The three guests, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, and Jonathan Frid, were prominent in the best storyline of the series. They were a love triangle in the 1795 storyline, the Barnabas backstory, in which Barnabas became a vampire.
Jonathan had dimples!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love those dimples!
All of my friends would come to my house to watch Dark Shadows after school because their mothers wouldn’t all it. Later on when my husband and I were first married we would watch reruns late at night.
We ran home and took over my friends tv . Her mom was cool.
I wish I could act half as good as Johnathan Frid.
She is beautiful . I loved her as Angelique on Dark Shadows and in Race With The Devil.
She did such a great job as Angelique! I hated her character so much.. haha 😂
Her eyes were hypnotic and seductive!
Does anyone remember a "Dark Shadows" interview, where I know it was Jonathan Frid, and maybe Kathryn Leigh Scott and Lara Parker again, where the interviewer made a very dismissive remark about the "Dark Shadows" franchise that it really upset Jonathan Frid to the point he would not answer the interviewer for the remainder of the segment. Some people will never understand the time and effort that goes into creating a Legacy.
@EricAndrus/ OMG! But what exactly did that boob say? The interviewer was dismissive? What? Was he out of his mind or just plain ignorant? I'm so curious now.
That's so foolish! Love Dark Shadows!!!❤
@@peterdavino4408 I can't seem to remember but it was something along the lines that the show was stupid, and you could tell it upset Jonathan Frid, because he felt the interviewer was taking the show and it's creators, and even its fans for granted.
I ran home from school to watch.
Kathryn Lee Scott was so incredibly beautiful😍😍😍
The music was creepy and bone chilling. The waves crashing against the darken wet rocks.
Barnabas was my first celebrity crush! I had conjunctivitis and the doctor wanted me to rest my eyes. He didn't want me to watch tv but relented on the grounds that I only watch one program a day. Of course I picked Dark Shadows!

So cool,.. I met them too.
Lara Parker "Angelique " wouldn't have to chase any guy down to bite him. She had me under her spell I will say that.
Me as well. Crushing but scary as well LOL. She really was convincing!!
Willie Loomis was so lucky to be under her spell!
Muito bom! Graças as pessoas do youtube, pude finalmente acompanhar Dark Shadows!
55 years and I am still in love with Maggie
This broadcast on 6/27/91 WAS the 25th anniversary to the day! The only problem here is their hedging regarding the 1991 version. It (unfortunately) only aired January-March '91 and was cancelled, so this was more than 3 months after that and they definitely would have been aware of it. I did go to that convention near LAX, and several others over the years there, and in Burbank, Ca.
Lara Parker was smokin
Kathryn Leigh Scott is my dream woman
All sorts of Cary Grant stylishness coming from Jonathan here!
Jonathan Frid was sexy as hell. Great show ❤
