For me (Astra H) CANBUS isn't switched to camera.
I used the cigarette ligther's thin BLACK wire (ignition live) to camera's RED wire, and the cigarette lighter's thick BROWN wire (earth) to camera's BLACK wire camera powering.
This has not been enough, the camera view wass never switched in reverse gear.
I connected the camera's RCA cable's red wire to the reverse light's positive (WHITE wire with black strip in case of ASTRA H for the rear right reverse lamp), and the other end of red wire on the RCA cable (behind the head unit) is connected to the PINK cable (that directly connected to the head unit from CAN BUS decoder).
And voila: Camera switched ON at reverse, and switched OFF when the car isn't in reverse. No error messages on ingnition ON, nor when engine is running.
I have a used 2006 Nissan Teana (Cefiro/maxima) here in Trinidad and it can come equipped with the backup camera. I ordered one for my own from hong kong. I will use your video video as a guide to instal same!

Im unsure were in the estate the number plate light is, is it in the boot lid or in the bumper? if its in the bumper it should be near enough the same.

Still depends on the car, on a older car not running canbus this may be the case, but with this astra having canbus, the cd player pictures up the reverse signal feed from the cars can bus and switches to the screen, BUT its running all the time, there is a button to press so u can see behind you, i did it many times on motorways etc. nothing is connected to any reverse lights or switches.
Yes. In this particular car has a canbus system. So connecting anything into the lights will bring up a error message on the screen
You can use the 2nd RCA cable from the sub as a video in from the camera.
its possible, depends if the sat nav system you have has a video in feed.

Yes, you can use your reverse light to feed your camera directly.
You dont even need a relay because the camera uses very very little power.

I have installed the rear view camera on my Kia Cerato's bumper alongside the pdc's. When i put my car in reverse it makes a continues beeping sound but the visual is there. My pdc's are not affective anymore. What in your opinion can be done to make the annoying noise go away?

yes you can, there is a button in the middle of the screen (on the bottom bar) that turns the camera on.
I'm having the same problem as a lot of people here as I have the same reversing camera and it's wired up to the reverse light so it doesn't work when the engine is on. Rather than wire it up to the cigarette lighter, would it be possible to wire it up to a piggyback fuse?

Hi. I want to buy Chevrolet Captiva, and there is no full option available at the moment. So there is one with lcd, but no rear camera. What camera would be compatible with it, pls?
i have the eonon android kitkat 4.4 , do i have to wire the reverse cam to the gearbox reverse wire? or can i just connect the camera to the reverse light for power, will the eonon unit change to reverse mode just by the video feed going on? cheers
Ryan Matthew Normally a car with can-bus and a head unit with a can-bus box knows when it goes into reverse. sometimes even without a camera connected the unit goes into reverse mode and shows "no video input".
If you have a car with can-bus you may have issues using the reverse light feed to power the camera. It may work fine, or have issues (mainly when the engine is running). The better way to connect something is using a can-bus relay. They use the signal say from the reverse light to switch the relay and an ignition live to provide the power to the item.
You can also take the camera feed from an ignition switched live. No real problem with this other than the camera will be powered when the ignition is on, although with can-bus the head unit only switches over when reverse is selected.
Just make sure you fuse any electrical connections correctly.
Hi I am thinking of getting an eonon have you had any issues with yours at all would you recommend them
that one s quite old now it was good. but the software was very user friendly. it wasn't allways simple to do something. but they have lots of newer ones now. with a lot better software. some even run android software.
is that Chinese oeon cd/radio unit still working?

Hi. I've just installed the same camera into my mondeo. The Mondeo has two numberplate lights, the camera replaces one of them leaving the other un altered.. When I try to connect the Numberplate light in the camera housing to the existing wiring, weird things start to happen. The camera light (which is LED) can flash when the side lights are turned on. Then not extinguish when the side lights are turned off. Did you have similar problems ?

How does the stereo "know" when you're in reverse? Or the camera, how does it know when you're in reverse?
signal is permenant, you can select the camera while driving
It can go louder without distorting as much.
So if camera has led lights built in.... they will be constantly on while driving ?
Fitted a reverse camera to a seat Leon (canbus) it works fine with the ignition on but won't with the engine running, any help would be great, thanks
how is the power connected? have you checked it in reverse, as this is how this camera worked, when reverse was selected it swapped screens.
Thanks for the reply, son might of wired into the reverse light, after watching your video I might have to change that, the screen swamps over and the camera works when reverse is selected with only the ignition on but with the engine running it won't power up the camera, I suspect the canbus system isn't supplying 12v with the engine running, I might have to re~think the connections, thanks

Absolute Modicts Yes absolutely right. Generally can-bus issues are when the engine is running. Taking the feed from an ignition live is fine, but best to fuse down correctly (thin Chinese cabling...).
The better way to connect something is using a can-bus relay. They use the signal say from the reverse light to switch the relay and an ignition live to provide the power to the item. Can get for less than £10 now. But an ignition live is a good option.
I need help!?!? my camera works in aux mode, and when you change over to the camera input, but when i change into reverse the display is blank?

I have a dvd player which supports reverse camera. I have wired the camera +/-straight to the reverse positive and negative, and when I put it in reverse gear, the picture comes on then goes off. Any suggestion????
ok, I know this is a late reply but it might help someone else. I had a similar problem with a new golf ( canbus system). I discovered that the voltage was dropping to 11.5 V about 5 seconds after ignition switch on. This was not high enough to run the camera. I overcame the problem by running the camera through a relay fed from an ancillary 12v output. I used the reverse light voltage to trigger the relay. That worked just fine with no warning lights

No, Danny is wrong. You cannot connect them to the reverse lights on a can bus car, as this will through up issues with the car thinking the bulbs have blown, and then the reverse lights wouldn't turn on, nor would the camera. The cigarette lighter is great as its a ignition Live, only on when key is in ( or for a small period of time afterwards)
I don't get it. Is it correct that the only wiring to the head unit was connecting the RCA video cable from the camera to the back of the head unit?
In the headunit yes. Power and earth connected at the cig lighter. As explained in the video :)
Since the only connection from the reverse cam to the head unit is the RCA video cable, is it correct to assume that some wiring in the back of the unit was done so that the unit automatically switches to the reverse cam image on reverse?

The vehicle is a canbus wired vehicle. The headunit picks up the signal when the vehicle has been put into reverse from the canbus and switches the camera over. This may not work with other headunits but this is how this ones works. Older cars may take the power feed from a reversing light (non canbus cars) and that would switch the camera on also.
I've have wired up the the camera to 2 din sat nav DVD player .....but I have press AUX button to get the reverse pic on the screen .....don't no how to get the pic on by selecting reverse ??

Emin Guluzade you can certainly wire to a switch if you wanted. Camera will work for as long as it it has a power feed.

I had my camera wired through relay. Its definitely better than without relay. But it sometimes goes crazy. Picture distortion, color change, evet completely black screen. Maybe relay is poor quality or something. This relay have to fix problem completely or not?

On astra h , yes it will drain the battery.
if you wire the positive to the permanent (red) wire: YES
but if you connet positive to the cigarette lighter's thin black wire (ignition live): NO
so the camera is on all the time? but the head unit detects when the car is in reverse? i ask because i am getting a similar head unit and camera soon :-)

Hi ive installed a camera on my astra mk5 its not VXR model though but full canbus how ever my camera feed is a green cable Eonon stereo but picture stays on all the time when power applied to camera have to disconnect power for stereo to work again does not work with reverse gear any ideas thanks.

how does that camera work. you have wired it to the cigarette lighter. I don't see how that tells the camera that u are in reverse???
Because the Cdplayer is wired into the Cars Canbus set up, So when the Reverse gear is selected the canbus system tells the reverse lights to turn on, and the cd player picks up this signal and swaps to the reversing camera. to put it plain.

unfortunately your wrong. the cd player unit only picks up the camera feed when ever reverse is selected or i engage the camera. you cannot connect into the reversing lights on this astra because is uses a canbus wiring set up.
12VDC is still 12VDC. It's not about a difference in amps either as you can install different bulbs without it giving a crap
Did you use connect the red wire on the video cable to the reverse light to trigger the camera when putting in reverse ??

+Tom Mawson You can't do that on a car with canbus system on it! and the camera does come in in reverse, because its using the canbus system!!!
Of course you can take the power from the reverse light. The canbus is only used by the stereo head unit to sense when the car is in reverse. The cables that run to the reverse lamps are still using 12VDC. Just splice off the cables that go into the connector for the passenger rear light cluster that are for the reverse light
@@amdkillaplays no you cant. Most European cars use PWM for the reverse light power. It isnt a 12v DC power signal

Bus is a term that refers to network that is used to communicate to various components inside a vehicle. CAN = Controller Area Network which allows different Micro controllers to send a ton of data back and forth.

thanks man. on this vehicle you cannot use the live from the reverse light. the can bus detects a different current and will turn off power to both the light and the camera .

but this is going to be power on all the time. will putting relay helps? relay will be enabled by the reverse light power.

I would recommend to double check the connections (RCA cables - yellow and red, and the positive and negative connections, if you have) you can seal the RCA with proper insulation tape to see if this interference will reduce or disappear

The Canbus is the wiring of the whole car, not just a unit that plugs into the cd player. The new development in vehicle wiring called canbus has been created to save weight and money when wiring a vehicle. Instead of having lots of cables connected to every device inside the car, the new canbus system has smaller, ribbon style cables that connects every electrical device in the car in a network pattern.
Nice video but why would you need one on a small car like this. Try driving an 80 series land cruiser with a 8" lift and two big wheels that sit on the rear bar you can't even see out the back window. I've reversed up and over people's cars because they park. Milimeters from your back end and the full-time 4wd keeps the car moving.
