It’s a huge compliment when Tim Pierce says you played a perfect solo.
hey Brett thank you so much for the comment!
I just found this particular solo to be amazing....
@@timpierceguitar Hey Tim, maybe check out germanTobias Hoffmann - chitlins con carne on youtube for example; a great unique player! you will enjoy his style!
greetings from germany!
Jared has UNBELIEVABLE feel. I'm as guilty as anyone of judging a book by the cover, and when I first saw him play this way it blew my mind. He's sooooo good.
If you think his playing good then you really need to hear him sing too. He has I credible feeling for singing and playing guitar. He is truly gifted
Hey, I've been watching your lessons for probably well over a decade. Thanks for all the hard work!
What about his "cover" screams "can't play guitar" to you?
@@bigaaron I think you misunderstood my comment. He looks like someone who’s very good at a different kind of guitar playing, and usually people who are good at that do not have the small details and techniques that make blues sound as soulful.
The thing that really gets me as much as the styles/playability is the dynamics! Holy-moly, from a whisper to a shout at just the right spots.
I totally agree with you it's the dynamics that are truly outstanding
That's a man who understands dynamics on a master level. Just compare the volume of the different parts, and how he decides what stands out loudly and what doesn't. Brilliant playing and shows a ton of experience and mastery of the instrument.
I’ve been screaming about this dude for years!! I’m so happy he’s getting all the attention and recognition he deserves!
Kenny Burrell old-school shit right there
This totally reframed my thoughts about his playing. It really shows the depth of his skills and knowledge. You’re 100% right about playing with wisdom beyond his years. Very jazzy and melodic.
The most talented guitarist I have ever personally known told me that the secret to his playing was that he played like he was a sax player.
That's a great quote! thanks for sharing it:)
Allan Holdsworth?
I had an adult beginner come in with a sax intro tabbed out. His view was that there weren’t a lot of notes, so should be able to play it.
Except it had a syncopated rhythm with some awkward fingering for guitar. It actually ended up being a better exercise for me to get out of the standard guitar shapes ha.
That index finger tremolo strumming slightly reminded me of SRV strumming during Tin Pan Alley right after Johnny Copelands solo Live At Montreux 1985, but had its own thing going. I dig it.
As I listened, I also thought it sounds like SRV, then search comments to see if it was just me... Thanks
Wow, thank you Tim, I didn't know about Jerod; what a frickin' introduction to his playing! Blew my mind with his touch. Hearing his finger fineness that guitar brought tears to my eye. Just amazing.
JJN is so enthusiastic about the blues and blues rock, love the energy & what he brings with his unique style.
Wonderful breakdown Mr Pierce, you sir are one seriously talented individual. Thank you for sharing 🙏.
Wow. Fantastic blues playing. So tasty,.
Such a "classy" solo - it's got a little bit of everything and every note is played with such heart and soul. Very "emotional" solo!!!!!
I jammed with Jared live onstage in Glasgow, Scotland. Even played Old Glory. It was a fantastic experience.
You guys are making me want a Goldtop…
The lines are impressive but his right hand techniques are beyond extraordinary
I hear SRV in his playing a lot!! Rivera Paradise comes to mind
I saw Jared James Nichols at a gig yesterday, he opened for Mr Big. Hands down the best guitar tone I have heard in a long time. And for as much as I love Mr Big I think Jared killed it !
Dear Mr Pierce, i concur with everything you said about this guitarist. When i listened to your detailed point you right on the money. And you sir, never cease to amaze me with your style and technique vocabulary.
I appreciate this. A lot of newer players are not given the legend status they would have received if this were the late 60s. Jared is one of the most original and expressive players. He stands right next to Jimmy Page and Hendrix. This video shows that like Hendricks, he is fluent in jazz improve which is what made Hendrix stand out so high above all the British guys.
JJN deserves much more coverage. Thanks for sharing his mastery.
❤your musical appreciation is as genuine as your talent. Thanks for sharing both Tim
I saw Jared 3 times, in Paris (France). Each time as a "Support Act" for Lynyrd Skynyrd, then for Zakk Wylde... and for Glenn Hughes. Each time he destroyed the audience with remarkable performances, full of feeling and energy. When he left the stage at the end of his performances, a good part of the audience had their jaws open at the level of their knees... like certain characters in the cartoons of Tex Avery or Chuck Jones. 🤣🤣🤣
Sorry for my poor english. Hope you get what i'm saying ! 🥃
Your English is great.
taste, soul, heart, dynamics, feel, timing ❤
His dynamics are excellent. His style is not over the top, but tasty. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
I was one of SRVs closest friends and we used to have living room jams and yes, I've played #1!!
I'm always baffled by a guitarist that's so far under my radar that plays as well as James. I don't know what "Normal" means but, if it's unusual for him or in general it sure was one of the most dynamic jam's I've heard. Thanks for bringing James to my attention Tim! ✌️♥️🎸🎶🙏
A few years ago Tim judged a guitar competition on Vero. He complimented on my submission and it was such a motivator for me. Great guy! Thanks Tim!!!
The tremolo picking with the index finger I first saw Buddy Whittington do many years ago. Buddy is a great player and so musical, anyone enjoying what Jared does here should check him out.
He's amazing.. Such great feeling and original technique. Great video!!
Even the points where he chose to "click" his pickups were in the hippest musical spots! And still in time! You're totally right, Tim. It really is a perfect solo
Wow his timing and every little emotion. You soooooooo cool tim.
1:59 - Yes - music is ultimately about story, and story is about conflict & resolution, and floating freestyle out of the pocket for a few bars then locking back in creates conflict & resolution in rhythm just as much as the out notes create conflict & resolution in harmony & melody. See Chris DeGarmo's "Jet City Woman" solo for a great rock 'n roll example of phrasing that floats out of the pocket (though in this case there's no swing and it's just a banging straight eight-note pulse) then locks back in.
I've come to believe that being a Les Paul player, eventually that jazz riffing will come out. It's built into the guitar. Great one Tim.
I have both the black and gold versions of his sig guitars. I replaced the black pickup cover and knobs on the gold top with a cream cover and gold knobs. It really sets it off like the originals.
I’m not a huge blues fan, but still have to appreciate taste and technique, and this dude has both in spades. Thanks for sharing this solo! 👍
Great breakdown of this amazing solo! Jared James Nichols is a beast!!! Thanks for doing all the great things that you do Tim!!!!
Absolutely amazing solo!
Thank you! What a treat!
Bravo Jared 👏 and thanks for sharing this Tim!
Love this solo. He’s all over it. Nice job Tim.
Excellent. So great to hear. Thank you.
So refreshing to hear someone play with such great taste and grasp of dynamics.
Wow, that was some inspiring playing Tim, it had me wailing on my old acoustic arch top for sure. I liked it.
Great player; didn’t know him. Now I do. So refreshing to hear someone spanning several styles with such dynamics and feel.
I have seen him live and met him a couple of times. I recently saw him in concert in my town, and attended a guitar clinic he did the next day. He really is a very talented player and very generous with his time and his clinics - he let us all play his guitar and even jam with his band. A top man! Thanks for focussing on him 👍
Great blues feel
I love J.J.N.'s feel....there's soo much emotion in his playing. Sure hope I get that gold glory......
Such beautiful tone from both players. Just wow
what a soulfull solo of Jared!
What a TONE.
Loved this! Very talented player. Jazzy well crafted riffs.
What dynamics!!! And wicked cool combo of techniques! TruIy inspiring. Not that I could get close to such nuanced playing w/ “Gold Glory” but I’d sure like to try. Thank you for bringing this very talented player onto my radar, Tim! 🙏🏻🎸😎
Yes, absolutely. No doubt about it.
😎👍👍👍A very timely lesson for me thanks Tim.
Love Jarod James Nichols! Love the finger-pickin' on the P90s! Can't beat it for expressive power.
Those aren't 90s. Those are minis

Edit
Nichols is endorsed by Gibson/Epiphone, Seymour Duncan,[17] Blackstar Amplification,[18] and DR strings. Jared primarily plays his signature Les Paul nicknamed "Old Glory" fitted with a single Seymour Duncan P-90 in the bridge position. In January 2019, Nichols unveiled his signature Epiphone "Old Glory" Les Paul. In 2021, Epiphone released a new iteration of the "Old Glory" Les Paul called "Gold Glory," featuring a gold sparkle finish.
Nichols is known for his use of P90 pickups. He prefers vintage Gibson P90s, or new reproductions by Seymour Duncan.
They're p90s @@mrblank-zh1xy
Awesome here Tim, Thanks, I love his playing, Cousin Figel
Hell yeah!! Now that’s playing! And grooving
Great job Tim. JJ is really killing it on that solo: I too didn't think he was 'there yet' but man he got it in spades on that track.
Tim that was awesome thank you.
what a beautiful solo , all feel. Not many guys play like that anymore. love it
seeing Tim air guitar along with Jared is uplifting. Excellent.
He's in the zone! This is great. I love hearing a great like Tim Pierce analyzing a great like JJN!
That is awesome. Love this style of blues playing. A lot of it reminds me of Kenny Burrell, my favorite player.
Beautiful
The most impressive thing is the incredible dynamics in JJN playing.
When you said crying like SRV I couldn’t help but thinking he sounded more like Roy Buchanan Than SRV
Love this… You both rock🤘💜
Tim,...Thanks for sharing this. I doubt I would have found it otherwise, and I "LOVE" it....
holy crap
he needs to do that more!
obviously listening to kenny burrell, grant green wes tbone walker albert king snd stevie it’s like every great blues and jazz, blues guitar player mixed up into one solo and definitely hearing the big band stabs I guess if he just did this, he wouldn’t get as many streams-It’s too bad… I knew he was talented but I thought it was all just revved up blues rock stuff that I don’t really listen to but that was fucking great
I'd love to get my hands on either of those guitars!
Amazing dynamics 😳
Gonna try that way of playing. I dig it!
Crazy man! Crazy!
thats so hip &cool great preformance .
I love his enthusiasm
I saw his rig rundown and he seems like a really nice guy!
That’s some sweet finger touches! Tim can just dissect anything like a doctor!
Hey thank you so much I appreciate it :-)
Great fluidity
Great tones! Both of you! Subscribed! Great people! Great guitarists! Thank you!!
I love to watch your videos for many reasons... the incredible trove of information and stories are exciting and the fact that your studio is lit up like a Spencer's Gifts just takes me back to my teenage years and makes my innards tingle!! Keep em coming, sensei pierce!
I often come back to listen to this solo, it has really good phrasing.
Importantly, this is not a straight blues, it has a 6-2-5-1 turnaround, which makes it more melodic.
It's all about dynamics!!
I just love the way you explain things. I smile
I met and had a couple of pleasant conversations with Mr. Nichols at the Paul Gilbert event last year in August. He is a really well versed and expressive guitar player. He took time to show and explain how he developed his solos. I also attended classes by Andy Timmons and Greg Koch who were very patient and answered all of my questions.
Incredible!
Tim = Universal super guitar man👍
I remember when Jared posted that video. I was going back to it for weeks trying to figure out some of those idea.
Saw him play last week in Lakewood OH. Rocked the house. 😓🎸
Nice to see you representing the Deluxe Tim! I have a 72 Goldtop, original except one refret about 12 years ago. Love the sweet singing tone of this guitar.
I too have one in very good condition bought new in 1972. All original
He is an amazing talent.
This guy is amazingly refreshing.
Spectacular. thank you for introducing me to this monster talent.
Wow. Thank you
Great video Tim, thanks for sharing the awesome picking, and you break down is spot on. 👍👍👍🥃Respect to you mate
First time I heard this guy play love this style. Especially the picking he is doing with his right hand. Liked and subscribed. Love to be in on winning that guitar. Thanks for your videos Mr T Pierce.
Lovin the Fender Bassman Tim !
The underlying chord Progression would be great to know. Btw thanks for the comprehensive analysis 😊
You are both fantastic players
It’s so amazing when someone me a solo so musical you don’t even care how difficult it is
Wow I never knew Jared could play like that ! Fantastic !
