Mr. Blues Power details how an early Gibson Les Paul goldtop survived a Midwest twister and landed in his lap.
Given his commitment to Les Pauls, it’s fitting that Nichols was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the birthplace of the guitar’s namesake inventor. Now, Nichols is a global ambassador of Gibson Guitars, an honor shared by only four other guitarists. And, since his last Rig Rundown, he was honored with a signature Epiphone guitar. In this new look at his rig, he shares his legion of trusty Les Pauls, as well as why he prefers simplicity when it comes to amps and pedals.

Great guitar
Great story
Congratulations Jared
👍👍
Nothing tops an early Gold Top. Nothing tops this guitar story.
First thing I thought was "Yeah, that belongs to somebody." Hopefully they'll see this, recognize what is distinctive about it and go get their grandpa's guitar back.
Agreed...Kind of reminds me of that story i read some years ago about how the "Keef Burst" Les Paul was going to be sold at auction, and I thought to myself..."How can someone sell the Keef Burst when it was stolen from Keith Richards?"....I mean, Keith still technically owns it, right?
Unfortunately can't do nothing about it super sad smb
*THIS HAS BEEN ADDRESSED. JJN SAID HE CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THEY DIDNT WANT IT*
Yeah he got in touch with the original owner's daughter. She'd already had it written off on insurance and said 'hang it on your wall'.
"Tornado flew it into my yard" = I stole it and have no paperwork for it :D
Jokes aside - great story and a great guitar.
Omg. The sound of that thing. That’s the sound I’ve been looking for. Amazing.
What if the original owner wants it back?
Did the original owner gets insurance pay out on it?
They died in the tornado
@@Ottophil Wow 😄😄😄
Personally, I think the early 50’s guitars should be the high dollar value collectable ones. A friend of mine has a 52 with the full trapeze string under tailpiece. Neck like a baseball bat, slightly better condition to this instrument. I still recall the glorious tone through a cranked traynor bassmaster with two twin 12 cabinets around 1970 -71 to this day! P90’s on LesPauls are special!
The JJN and Dorothy combo is pure 🔥
What if a guitar shows up in my yard after a flood? Does the tornado rule still count?
Just don't tell anyone...
What a great story and player.
What a great story! Yeah!!!
A truly amazing story! What i really appreciate about things like this is it does show/prove that there are still
people out there that are genuine kind giving souls. The guy could have gotten some decent $$$ for this Les Paul
even in it's ravaged state! But he decided to give it to someone that could not only get it restored properly
but would play it all the time! 👍I had a similar experience where i was looking to buy a old Original Charvel
Strat neck and these are very difficult to find and are really expensive. anyway a guy just gifted me
a perfectly working, in excellent shape , 1980 Charvel Strat neck!😲 He did not even let me cover the shipping?
Bottom line humanity is not lost, there are still very kind people out there! Peace😎
I love having a trem arm…but i also love badass bridges. U can anchor ur hand so perfectly on them. It’s so comfortable to play that way. And u can perch them sideways to get better intonation.
Great story. If it had been a Flying V it would have made even more sense
Jared James seem to be the nicest guy and wow that´s quite a story, i really love those early Gibson Les Paul´s.. :D
That is the best guitar story of all time.
I hope you gave that kid Something!!!
Some refuse to accept anything in return! I had a total stranger give me a strat neck that i had been looking to buy
online and he would not let me give him any money for it! He did not even let me cover the shipping!
What was i supposed to do just tell him to forget the whole thing? You cannot make someone accept things.
why didnt he send it to Gibson Repair and restoration? is the neck stock style or build to JJNs big hands?
Is the neck angle now different than stock? Dorothy is where she is supposed to be. Way cool story!
wow man, damn so thats what happened to my 52 Les Paul? i didnt think id ever see it again. Can i have it back?
Aw I feel sorry for the owner. Should give it back
there was probably a fender in that tornado as well but god reached out and grabbed that one
Endless enthusiasm for playing the guitar. What's not to like?
I’m confused. Was the neck WITH it or did they put a period correct neck on? If it was totally snapped off- was the neck just lying around next to the body ?? 🤔
It’s a new neck👍, Troglys guitar show talks about it
Epiphone should take up more signature p90 models from JJN. They only make one full size Les paul with a p90. The Gold Glory. Like Slash models but with P90’s.
Damn....dorothy....fuckin beautiful
I'm surprised someone claiming they're the real owner hasn't came out . Probably lost his life and everything on the property. I say that jokingly but there's no telling lol. Pretty crazy
I'll edit and ad that was my grandmother's guitar and she also lost her legs in that twister. Enjoy
That dude can play. Jesus! The guitar found the right owner!
This is a weird story. On the one hand, we all would have taken it, on the other hand, if somebody has proof that this is their guitar, you gotta give it back. To James credit, he isn't trying to say he "bought it at a pawn shop 'two towns over'... no more questions."
No way to proof it. The original neck had no serial number.
We never know lol but nah I believe 🤣
What effort has been made to find the owner? That guitar and the wealth that is attached to it belongs to the real owner and their family. This was a devastating and tragic event. Do the right thing. Buy it or give it back.
I would have made him mortgage his house for that guitar 😂
so it is a stolen guitar you mean
It was acceptable in the 80’s
Cool story, bro. I was just hearing about another of these oringal Les Pauls. One owned by Robben Ford at one point. It was on a recent 5 Watt World show about LPs.
grand theft paula
so if a guitar shows up in your yard after a tornado its yours? WTF!
Let it be written.
So those traipse tailpieces work see!
Came to this video right after watching Tobias Hoffman demo a 54 P90 Goldtop. It’s incredible how different the tone is from that one. Tobias’s was one of the clearest, most chimey, glassy sounding Les Pauls I’ve ever heard. This is a really nice guitar but it just sounds like a common dark Les Paul tone.
What amp was Tobias using though? the amp has a lot to do with the tone obviously.
My 2018 true historic R9 is a incredible clear , chimey Les Paul but through some amps not so much.
I think ,, that Les Paul was spotted

Damn...watched it, that guy was "riding the storm out"....... in real life 😳

Deadliest & Costliest Tormado to hit Illinois.
@@chickeastwater9883 rough stuff.....spent a decade near OKC.....I have seen the horror!
Man, this dude pulled out all the stops in the first minute and a half of the video...A premium example of "Guitar Hero" schtick here! LOL
JJN should name the guitar "felony theft" because it's not his guitar.
So that's someone's guitar. Booo!
Just a burglar?
Lots all respect for this guy, he's essentially showing off with a stolen guitar, who does that? This instrument obviously belonged to someone who went through a horrible event. I don't know how he sleeps at night.
Whoa slow down there Mr find them guilty without knowing the whole story! Have you considered that the guy
that found the guitar in his back yard did look into it's original owner? Maybe in the future gather more facts before you condemn others.
That guitar belongs with the rightful owner...
Its been many years since the guitar was discovered and no contention has been brought up with regard to its provenance not to mention the repair job Jared did which no doubt cost a ton of money, that was a months long job. At any rate, im just saying if someone was looking for it surely we’d know by now and I doubt Jared would have issue
And that's somehow his fault? It's literally his property now by law.
There's a lot to the story of this guitar that doesn't get shared. The original owner had passed away by the time TJ was able to track down who it originally belonged to - and his granddaughter (I believe) stated that they had received an insurance payout for the guitar and said he was welcome to keep the guitar body. "T"s we're crossed and "I"s we're dotted.. kudos to TJ for making sure everything was squared away and on the level.
@@SixStringSlinger1 …our law actually does give the original owner the right to claim an item back that has either been lost or stolen, provided that they can provide accurate and authentic provenance / evidence that proves the object once belonged to them….and the person who found it or bought it from a third party can’t do the same or provide a bill of sale from the original owner….that’s the law on the books today.
@@zeroceiling if an item is left unreported (not claimed) for so long, and it finds it's way to somebody else's possession (by legal means) it then becomes their possession.
Either way, the guy who fixed the guitar already replied and explained how Jared actually got permission from the family who owned it (and they already got an insurance claim). So you're not really making much of a point.
