    Jared James Nichols is hands down my favorite guitarist and his tone and style is so unique and he is the reason I decided to drop the pick because I never could get use too it and hated relying on it, but man what a humble guy he is. And a shout out to the Sweetwater interviewer... asked all the right questions and didn't interrupt and you could tell how genuinely interested he was.

      Same here! There are some greats who play slower melodic rock fingerstyle but no one quite like Jared.

      I went to Jared's gig at Nottingham last night and as a new fan didn't realise he played without a pic.
      It was the softer sound and less of an attacking tone I noticed first, then when I looked closer noticed no pick. It's a different sound for sure, which obviously works for him 🤟.

    Man, that‘s some incredible phrasing and tone control!
    Also his ability to smoothly transition between single-note lines
    and more chordal playing is amazing. True virtuoso on the instrument!

    I hate Nichols as well, what an amazing player! Seems like a really nice guy, and his passion for guitar is infectious! I have played my Blackstar and Gibson a lot lately, but I just don't sound anything like Nichols, can't figure it out. lol

    I’m lefty and play righty. I took classical lessons for 10 years. I’ve been exclusively using a pick for about 3 years because it is extremely hard for me to do. And it’s something I want to learn. I’ve always played using my fingers like JJN and using my 2 fingers like a pick.

    I'm originally a bass player but now playing the electric guitar at church. Can't play with a pick to save my life and have been using the PIMA style. I did have to resort to using a thumb pick because the electric steel strings were wearing down my index and middle finger nail beds from strumming.

    I'm a lefty that plays right handed and always had trouble with picking.

  • @shodaboy54
    @shodaboy54 4 роки тому

    It happened the same to me. I'm a lefty as well and learned guitar as a right handed. Never found it easy to use the plectrum and it's funny beacuse if I flip the guitar and use the plectrum with my left hand I can pick much much faster than with my right hand by then I would need to learn from scractch to play the freatboard with the right hand so I stood playing as a right handed. I always felt it easier to play with my fingers but somehow I thought I was wrong doing like that

    • @musicman76
      @musicman76 3 роки тому

      Haha. Is left-handers have to adapt so much! My problem has always been the opposite. I’m left-handed and picking has always been easier, but my fretting hand can be lame at times. I also play right-handed. Lefty guitars just weren’t readily available when I was 12 and had a couple hundred bucks saved up.

    Everyone keeps making the Richie Kotzen analogy when it comes to Jared and I hear it to an extent but to me, he's much closer in style to Michael Lee Firkins...just saying. He's an amazing talent all the same though!

    • @lueysixty-six7300
      @lueysixty-six7300 4 роки тому +4

      Ricardo Gordo it's not just "an Epi" - it's his signature guitar. Yeah it's in the fingers, but it's in that guitar too: single p90 LPJ style, to his specs. It all adds to the flavour.

    • @yannick2047
      @yannick2047 2 роки тому

      Yeah it‘s in the fingers, but also the amp is important.
      He knows really well how to dial the controls of the amp in the
      right way to make this P90 pickup really sing (it’s also his signature amp,
      So yeah should be obvious). Furthermore, the pickup
      in this guitar actually comes from a decent brand.

    Only playing with your fingers are very limited.So mixing it up and using a pick half of the time is a cool thing but only fingers?No it gets boring pretty fast because you already kind of know whats coming.

    Hey Jared, why all the tattoos, originally the tats were for healing purposes on specific parts of the body only and that has been used since 8.000 years ago for instance with the Cucuteni culture in mid Europe, Otzi the Bronze Age ice man also had healing tattoos on specific parts of his body. You flaunt all that cultural knowledge which can lead to ill health and disaster.

      Phrasing, tone control and dynamics of his playing are far (far!!)
      beyond beginner level. It‘s not just what you play but how you play it.
