That one speech at 37:12 changed my life forever. I've been stuck at Smough and Orstein for roughly a week. I tried everything. Pyro orbs, pancake with the dragon tooth, upgrading lifehunt scythe, unequip every piece of armour I have for maximum rolling and then had to equip them again after being one-hit by Smough's charging move. I was so devastated that I was planning another trip to painted world to farm my SL to 150, but then this speech hit me. I also thought about my strength build and then "Damn, why not ?". Full Havel's set on, pull out my Dragon greataxe along with Power within, and then started praying. It took me like 3 tries, and it worked, gloriously. I walked in the room, spamming my RMB for that AoE attack. Got hit and low on health ? I chunked my Estus +3 right between Smough's legs, no rolling, no blocking bullcrap, just me staring the two bosses while slamming the greataxe's special attack. Orstein's health bar was absolutely wrecked in like 20 seconds, and Smough just hopelessly watched his friend died just to buy him a couple of seconds before his demise. Anyways, it was a funny video, and glad to know I'm not the only one dying from falling down the stair lead to the Abyss
Ah yes, Sif. "Dark Souls: Prepare to Cry" Sif in Vanilla: Great Grey Wolf who was the companion of Artorias, and now watches over and defends his grave. I strongly agree with the choice to let Shen find out about Solaire, it's so important to get that the first time, because the first time is the only time it hits that hard. That's also why saving him on playthrough 2 means so much, because you earned it. You saw how things could be, and instead decided to not let it end that way again.
Agreed wholeheartedly. Seeing Solaire like that, having to kill the BEST BUDDY (BOYFRIEND) hit so hard. At the time I didn't even know npcs had storylines and different endings, so when a friend told me I could save Solaire I instantly picked the game back up again, dedicated to not let the same thing happen again.
On my first playthrough I was a Chaos servant, so i didn't get the bad ending. On my second playthrough however, I walked into that part of Izalith and was like "Yay I'm gonna see Solaire again!" only to catch a face full of lightning, because he spotted me before I saw him. It was terrible.
I just love the dynamic between Shen and her friends, its just bouncing off each other like: 'What's happening?!' 'Suffering!" 'That's what happens!' 'Oh yeah he does that' 'Yes he dies'
I love how she makes gay jokes at Ornstein and Smough just by virtue of them being adjacent to each other. Meanwhile in lore they absolutely despise each other, and the only thing keeping them from killing each other is their loyalty to Gwynevere.
@@tbotalpha8133 It's also implied by DS3 that Ornstein left Anor Londo long ago, meaning the Ornstein in DS1 is an illusion rather than the true knight. But it also says that Ornstein left one knight behind in his stead, meaning that maybe in the end he gave Smough the knighthood he always wanted in spite of their less than stellar comradery
I still find the story with artorias and great Wolf Sith very sad, but yet honorable. Sith staying by his fallen companion’s side till the day he died, but yet guarded his grave to keep other from experiencing the same gruesome fate as his companion. A true sad story of companionship, honor, and sacrifice.
Y’know, the only soulsborne game I have any experience with is Bloodborne, and even then I’ve made like no progress because I suck, and even I started internally screeching “IT’S ORNSTEIN AND SMOUGH!” When Shen got there. Now that’s an iconic fight.

@@bitchaos4591 You can find sif and the artorias shield hidden away and summon sif for the manus boss fight. You do the dlc first and there’s a special cutscene when you fight sif later. It’s very, very, very sad

When i first starting watching Shenpai i was like "hour long videos? skipping those" and now i realize that they feel like they go by in 30 minutes because of how much chaos is within them.
The power of face tanking is indeed strong, yes! Real fun to watch your journey through this, Shen! I wish I had the patience for the Souls games but they're a thrill to watch people go through!
Well, that was a fun ride, it's always a pleasure watching someone stumbling their way through this game for the first time, it's the only way anyone can re-experience that feeling again.
I can't tell you how pleased I am to see you enjoying this series and getting invested in its lore and characters. Thank you for not getting discouraged.
"Sorry I killed your lover" she says to the Giant Sentinel. (And to Smough and Ornstein, apparently. She really bites off more than she can chew.) A brass bonking was the only reply it needed to give.
Four Kings is kinda hilarious, in retrospect. Everyone is intimidated by them the first time. But they’re just a dps check. Get in, hit hard, avoid grab. That’s it. They can only do real damage if you stand away from them, but right on their butt, their attacks barely tickle. Heck, the Havel set was overkill.
Ah yes how i know people haven't lost their humanity like me, they try not to kill Sif after seeing him limping and get sad, by the by Shen if you did a sidequest in the DLC before fighting him it gets EVEN SADDER
never played this darksouls but i heard this boss is really sad because of its lore. i could be way off but isnt sif guarding the area for his masters return (or his masters grave its been a while since i heard about it)?
@@TheLuuman Sif is protecting his master's grave and the ring that lets the wearer traverse the Abyss safely, and if you do the DLC where you save him as a pup in the Abyss, he remembers you before the fight. He doesn't want to fight you, but he has to do his duty.
"Remember, confidence is a slow and insidious killer." I love Darkest Dungeon references everywhere they appear. Wayne June created something truly magical with that voice work.
I think Shen deserves a lot of credit for being good enough to beat Dark Souls without really changing up her equipment until very late in the game. Like you actively chose the hard way with this playthrough and you still did it.
The speech at Kings, your laugh, the randomness of this all has just been the best 👌. Also, almost passed out laughing at Tarkus in the last episode. Thank you for this.
I just gotta say, you lucked out BIG time with those 2 silver knight archers yeeting themselves off. You have no idea how often i end up with those 2 firing arrows over and over for soooooo long when i'm right in front of them!
If you roll the arrow then put up a shield close to them their AI should switch them to melee mode. They should open with the thrust attack which while the harder of the two melee openers to parry is still something you can parry. Or you can bait them to walk off at the corner of the walkway (fairly consistent). While there is some rng to enemy attacks in this game most of the time everything the enemies do is in reaction to the player's positioning or actions. The O&S boss fight for example. Smough will always do his charging attack and Ornstein will always shoot lightning at you right after you use an item of any kind. It is meant to be a heal punish. DS1 is all about pattern recognition and timing. That mostly holds true for the latter games as well.
Yep, he sacrificed his good arm protecting Sif, and the fact that he's still so powerful even with his off-hand really says a lot about how strong he actually was.
@@AstralMuffin105 Actually no.His broken arm is his shield arm.And there is plenty of proof ONE:Look at the Cleansing Greatshield. It's chipped exactly where his elbow would merge with the shield. And it's flattened on the center.Wich leads to only one conclusion.Artorias got one hell of a hit on the shield by Manus protecting Sif and the impact shattered his shield arm. Not able to wield it anymore he left it with Sif. TWO:Another proof of him fighting with his good arm .He has a pauldron on his left shoulder. The pauldron is only used on the shield arm. You don't put a pauldron on the sword arm.It impedes it and takes away all its manuverability and freedom. Having that giant pauldron there means you can protect that side when your guard is down. Wich side is going to be facing your opponent most? The side that your shield is on. And a shield is not 100% protection. You can end up with a blind spot on the shield arm as you swing leaving the shield shoulder open.Or a spot between the shoulder and the shield where the opponent's weapon can go past the shield hence the pauldron. And anyone with even an inkling of knowledge on armour configuration would know that Artorias's armour is designed like that of a right-handed swordsman (something you'd see often with Italian armour, where the shield-bearing pauldron is more armoured to assist in cushioning blows to a shield). The fact that his arm is broken and he leaves behind his shield are very, VERY good indications that his broken shield is directly related to his broken arm . No skilled swordsman would put his sword arm in front of the shield to guard against a truck sized opponent when he has a greatshield to do that with. THREE:Being left handed would severly affect his group performance. If he ever fought in formation and used a shield on his right hand,it would leave a hole in the wall's defences. Instead of fortifying the wall he would leave it wide open.
So much of what I said during that monologue makes no sense but god dammit I was feeling passionate about you winning

Milky's speech at 37:12 is the embodiment of all Soulsborne players.
Gotta love how Smough doesn’t even wait for Ornstein to die before taking his powers
I've never seen that bug with Kalameet's eye attack: that's hilarious. 😆
Honestly, her meeting the Brass Knight Fire Keeper is such a mood. I love her and the armour she wore.
Shen "woofing" after killing Artorias hurt my little dark soul a tad.
Shen hasn't realized that Dark souls (and the soulsborne franchise in general) already defeated her the moment she got hooked to it.
Goddaamn and here I thought I'd cried for Sif enough, hearing shen experience the pain just made me cry again for the one thousandth time
at last, the return of the just king John Souls
edit: ah the point down on Gwyn. She truly has learned
The four kings part is by far the funniest and inspirational thing I've seen this week
I swear to god, the motivational speeches your friends come up with have me dying on the floor from laughter
45:48 reminds me of the pokemon cofagrigus back in gen 5. It couldn't be traded unless you gave it a nickname because of the filter
I've never seen Sif's fall down animation before! I actually got sad for the fight for the first time in years!
Shen´s laugh is as contagious as it is chaotic. My ears suffer whenever she is laughing, but my soul gets healed through it.
I didn’t even know sif limped like that R.I.P doggo
LETS GOOOO ❤️ LOVE THE WORK THANKS SHENPAI
Don't forget the alternate cutscenes you get if you go through and save Sif in the DLC before fighting her. Makes the fight all the more heartbreaking

I can't tell you how pleased I am to see you enjoying this series and getting invested in its lore and characters. Thank you for not getting discouraged.
"Sorry I killed your lover" she says to the Giant Sentinel. (And to Smough and Ornstein, apparently. She really bites off more than she can chew.)
A brass bonking was the only reply it needed to give.
I love how her first reaction upon beating Gwyn was to point down, a true Undead, fit to link the flame evermore.
I'll resume this real quick: Johnathan Souls fights his way through Ikea to steal some Fïēry Wöød from local man named Gwynathan
Gwynathan my beloved
57:45 Shen turning into a goblin always gets me
Four Kings is kinda hilarious, in retrospect. Everyone is intimidated by them the first time. But they’re just a dps check. Get in, hit hard, avoid grab. That’s it. They can only do real damage if you stand away from them, but right on their butt, their attacks barely tickle. Heck, the Havel set was overkill.
Everytime I fight them I just put on the heaviest armor I got and poise through them because I really can’t not be asked to deal with them.
9:33 Shen : "Hello, I want my Souls back"
Twins: "No Refunds!"
the havel facetank monologue might be the funniest moment in all the shenpai videos ive seen
37:10 This is just for me. The Havel Armour Speech was way too good.
37:20 fucking broke me. That goddamn speech was just, as rousing as any shonen anime speech before the end-of-season boss fight
The progression during the death compilation for Four Kings where Shen was progressively losing more and more armor killed me.
I appreciate Shen playing a swordsman and not a mage so she suffers more for us
Hmmm, would she play a mage if that was the boxart dude?
Sorcerer suffers much more, strength is easy mode
@@Mare_Man dark bead says hello
@@cyb3rspace478 GMB says hi
@@evinbraley I mean you have to be doing a faith build to have that, a regular strength build with no magic would suffer
As soon as Shen put the prism stone on the floor, the video buffered and my internet went out. They truly are that powerful
@@TheLuuman He guarding his master grave and the abyss ring to prevent anyone enter the abyss
@@TheLuuman Sif is protecting his master's grave and the ring that lets the wearer traverse the Abyss safely, and if you do the DLC where you save him as a pup in the Abyss, he remembers you before the fight. He doesn't want to fight you, but he has to do his duty.
@@AstralMuffin105 ah there it is i remember now. man that hits right in the feels
"Remember, confidence is a slow and insidious killer." I love Darkest Dungeon references everywhere they appear. Wayne June created something truly magical with that voice work.
Every moment of the 4 Kings fights were brilliant
8:04 love that edit between two jump attacks from the demon.
That four kings speech needs to be animated
37:08 That Four Kings speech was amazing.
I think Shen deserves a lot of credit for being good enough to beat Dark Souls without really changing up her equipment until very late in the game. Like you actively chose the hard way with this playthrough and you still did it.
That take's some commitment.
I mean all that fancy arnour.
Fashion Souls
The speech at Kings, your laugh, the randomness of this all has just been the best 👌. Also, almost passed out laughing at Tarkus in the last episode. Thank you for this.
You can tell how important a game is too Shenpai by how long the intro is.
The four kings rant had me loudly, hysterically laughing in a public bathroom... Worth it
I think Darksouls can be summarized in “Oh they hurt”
“Will this kill me?”
Yes yes it will, it always does
Between Scout's bonk and the sound effect at 11:11 I don't think you know how happy I get when hit with nostalgic sounds like that
I just gotta say, you lucked out BIG time with those 2 silver knight archers yeeting themselves off.
There's a reason Vaati's lore videos are called 'prepare to cry'
you've gotta watch them, it'll make you love the games even more
That entire 4 kings havel bit had me in tears holy shit.
43:50 Wow Milky, that was a great impression of an elephant!
I'm so glad Shen didn't see the alternate cutscene first, with how much she cried at the end of Sif's fight
35:52 Just putting this here so I can revisit the Cynthia-music death montage and Milky's glorious monologue in the future.
Seath's gingerly slap finishes are my favorite
9:09 i've skipped this cutscene so many times now that i forgot about the way smough is just stanced up during the scene
The best part about the artorias is that he’s fighting with his non-dominant arm
Imagine if he could actually use both arms. He'd be the real final boss
Yep, he sacrificed his good arm protecting Sif, and the fact that he's still so powerful even with his off-hand really says a lot about how strong he actually was.
His left arm was for the shield.
@@AstralMuffin105 Actually no.His broken arm is his shield arm.And there is plenty of proof
ONE:Look at the Cleansing Greatshield.
21:10 Can we all agree that's the funniest voice tone Milky has ever put on for saying something? He sounds so funny and idk why.
Rip she never saved Sif. Did she at least find out that the DLC takes place in the past?
"We'll never know if we don't try! LET'S GO!" I think we've all made that leap of faith.
Once again, no one makes it past the ALAC the first time.
