A small detail but worth mentioning. After you free Lautrec from his cell, you can speak to him at Firelink Shrine before fighting the Gargoyles, which will enable him as a summon for the fight alongside Solaire. It helps build a rapport with him, just to make his actions later all the more impactful. Most players go straight to the boss after freeing him though, so not many people know about it.

    • @Aqarzy

2:04:45 this made me realize. That the reason for this is Fromsoftware's dedication to adhere to its world. Yes, it would make sense in a gameplay perspective to put a bonfire in New Londo close to the darkrwraiths and the Four Kings. But that place had been submerged underwater for so long, so in a world perspective, it makes zero sense to add bonfire there. They don't care if the overall experience suffer for it, they didn't want to make Dark Souls 1 feel gamey. It's something that they had clearly strayed away from with Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring.

there's a video on youtube about how to get kalameet's tail every time, the method is extremely consistent, basically you need a light equip load, don't use lock-on, run in fairly big circles at mid range to bait the swoop (forward flying dash attack), then you roll 45° forwards, then 45° forwarda back inwards (both rolls going in the opposite of his direction of motion, making a V shape to get around his body and end up behind him) then you just run under his tail, he swats it on the ground, and then you're in the perfect position and you have a pretty big window to hack away at it. it took me about 5 minutes to get his tail the first time after watching the video, and then on a new file it took me about 30 seconds just doing it from memory, it's like riding a bike

2:30:30 something funny, there's a glitch/exploit where if you hit an idle enemy/NPC with a bare fist jump attack, it resets their animations, it's used in the painted world to get past the undead dragon butt so you can skip right to priscilla without seeing a single bonewheel.
you can use that exploit to "wake up" dusk, and she'll just be standing there in a GTA pose, but her dialogue is still her being unconscious and inconsolable, it is a very funny little thing to do

    2 things:
    A) 1:26:20 ... if you kill them with a backstab, you won't get afflicted by "toxicity"
    B) 32:30 "Be safe friend, don't you dare go hollow" and "You have a heart of gold...don't let them take it from you" are Some of my favorite quotes of any Fromsoftware game.
The one i love the most, however, is a little latin phrase that Reah says if you speak to her in upper undead burg after saving her from the tomb of the giants:
"Vereor Nox".. while most agree on it simply meaning "be afraid of the dark/i fear the darkness", i remember many years ago reading an article from a student in old latin, with a very long explanation and analysis, where the student came to the conclusion of it actually meaning " I, the dark, fear myself " .
Considering the themes that Dark Souls touches, and the fact that it is a phrase spoken by a human cleric of the Way of White (devotees of the sun/light) whom you just saved from depths of the tomb of the giants (the only place in the entire serie that is actually void of light) makes me think she is wrestling with the fact that she is a human afterall, a descendant of the dark and ultimately drawn to it, wether willingly or unwillingly.. makes me want to believe this translation to be the correct one.

    HEY YOU, LAVENDER REX
thanks for this video man, it’s pretty chill and I watch this while eating ramen or doing dishes. This video is great, and has been making me think about souls 1 again, which is always amazing. Love this vid.

Thx you. Fabulous attention to detail. This is the only game I've played daily since my first ps3 in 2012. Now, three ps3's and 3 ps4's later and I'm still fascinated and learning . The slow clunky fighting is want it's like in real combat

1:14:06 Notice that pose; the crossed arms and legs.
The secret symbol of the Darkmoon is the double-cross (XX); a reference to the Judgment Tarot card, as well as Darkmoon Velka's betrayal of her husband, Gwyn.
Note that Velka's rapier traces a V (2handed-heavy) and an inverted V (1handed-heavy) - overlay the two, and you get XX.

I played Dark Souls for the first time in 2011. It infuriated me at first and I regretted buying it even. And yet I came back and decided to give it another fair shot and holy mother of god. Easily became one of my favorite games of all time. I have every single Souls game platinum. Demons, DS 1-3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. Dark Souls started the entire journey for me and the philosophy of it is incredible. Through perseverance and patience I’ve become fairly good at every game. I can boot up Bloodborne and it immediately comes back to me and I’m slaying everything. I have infinite love for these games. This was a really great video

I still can't believe From Soft teased everyone with the unreachable item in Undead Assylum with the intent of players coming back for it many hours, even sessions later and only IF they figure out or get told about the bird nest interaction. And then they also throw in the key to a whole optional area and boss, it's magical.

    References to crosses in the Painted World;
Crucified Hollows (crux simplex), Xanthous King Jeremiah, X-shaped crank, *annex* key, cross-breed Priscilla, crow demons cross their wings to telegraph their grab attack, the Velka Set has rings of crosses on the upper arms and legs, note also that the arcs on the hilt of Velka's Rapier can be interpreted as the initials J.C.

Okay I don't want this to come out wrong but the gate in Church after the dragon you said it's not too satisfying to come up to this gate, especially cuz I have no real need for it now or something really close to that. But what is really satisfying about that gate is trying to run at it and at one time getting through and then it's slamming down and killing the pig. Then you grab your key. Open it back up and happily die knowing that that challenge is done cuz there's like 15 guys on your right now
