Its incredible how far you've progressed in these games Shen. When you did Demon Souls I remember laughing at all your deaths, but now im just impressed that you nearly got to Vort of the Boreal Valley without dying at all.
To be fair, Vordt is one of the easiest bosses in the game. For someone who's at least somewhat experienced with ds games, he shouldn't be an issue at all
@@Terkiaz True, but its less about the boss and more about getting him. When you haven't gotten through Lothric before it can be a bit of a bitch. Plus she killed the mimic first try, didn't fall prey to the drake, and killed one of the mutated hollows without too much issue. Its impressive for someone not used to DS3 yet.

Admiral yes impressive idk, once you’ve gotten a feel for the dark souls series the area is honestly no harder than a tutorial level, plus she’s played blood borne meaning she’s used to the heavy reaction time requirement increase compared to ds1 and 2

After Dark Souls 3 I started having this recurring dream where I'd find Anor Londo in every game I played. Every dream would be a different game, and every time I'd climb up something and there would be Anor Londo.

The whole time I was like "how is Shen so fucking good at this game?" and then she got to the part at 46:15 that I farmed for souls because it was so easy and... well... different strokes.

I typically farmed at profraned capital. If you are efficient enough you can kill all the mobs around Yhorm's arena in about 5min roughly and get about 50k souls per run (10k souls a minute is pretty nice) I managed to farm up to roughly 2mil souls in just over an hour. My char was super overlevelled for most content after that sitting pretty at around lv130+ is base ng.

Edit: On an unrelated note, "You are made out of anime, and I am made out of death!" is now my very-most-favorite Shen quote of all time.
To be more specific, they are fast enough that they break the game’s normal method of reducing off-screen resource costs, causing them to teleport to your location. Bastards are such a pain they break the game.

The dancer fight is incredible. The first few attempts you kept in step with her and 'danced' around the room. So she wasn't very aggressive.
Then you started to get more aggressive and stopped 'dancing' so she became more aggressive too

@@killeranimatronic5448 for one her boss music is on the time signature of a waltz. She also steps in time to the music but sometimes is a little off beat.
And you both are constantly repositioning in time to the waltz since the devs designed her walking and sttacking animations to fit in with the 6/8 time signature.
This unique timing for her animations is typically what throws people off when they are looking for attack opportunities, since her recovery frames are on different parts of the bar than we are used to

Fun fact! Wrt chat’s “off-tempo” comment, every single enemy in dark souls iii telegraphs and then attacks in perfect 4:4 musical time, *except* for the Dancer of the Boreal Valley, whose swings are on 3:4 time.

While that works as a decent metaphor, it doesn’t make any sense to say that an enemy telegraphs in 4/4 vs 3/4 unless it is a rhythm game where enemies match the music exactly. Given that Dark Souls uses AI-based bosses that don’t give any sort of strong beat vs weak beak, their attack patterns will rarely match any particular time signature. A better musical description would be using stylistic adjectives. The Dancer, unsurprisingly, moves in a manner that could fit a waltz, with heavily emphasized downbeats in her repeated spin and flowing nature. Bosses like Iudex and Champion Gundyr, on the other hand, move succinctly and pointedly with flashy strikes, loosely matching the style of a march or fanfare.

Finally got around to playing Dark Souls 3 and being able to watch this video and understand EXACTLY what she's feeling when she finds something new is so amazing

I love how Shen’s enthusiasm for this series grew with each game, and it was so heart warming to see her get more and more excited about everything :)
Was big sad when Shen accidentally skipped Siegward's last part of the quest and no one warned her, even though she passed his summon like 5 times.
You don't summon him for the last fight. You need to let him out of a cell in the dungeon and he'll just show up when the fight starts.
Also it's better not to end the quest if you don't want to see him die :(

She never did Anri’s quest either, even though she talked to Yoel and everything. Such a shame, since she really seemed to enjoy Anri at first impressions.
yall need to understand that Dark Souls questlines are cryptic as all hell, I legitimately had to use a guide to find out where the fuck they even continued on my second playthrough. Why act like you OBVIOUSLY found this all in your first playthrough 😶

Love the Deprived class. Picking up a random branch to fight seems badass. The Halberd is very strong for a starter weapon.
Or just go Mercenary if you want to play on easy mode
@@escapefromtibet2530 the spear class has 100 shield, heal and a long reach weapon so another easy mode. The pyromancer i wrecked gundyr too without breaking a sweat.
@@fjparasite1172 knight is pretty easy too. The armor absorbs a considerable amount of damage, a Good shield and the straight sword. One of the most versatile weapons in the Series!
@@fjparasite1172 The sellsword twinblades are called Winblades for a reason. Strongest weapon(s) in the game. With a Pyro build you basically can't lose anymore
Or you could go Deprived and beat Gundyr in with a stick and a loincloth. That's my go to choice. 😆
My introduction to Dark Souls was The Science Of video talking about music theory and how the Dancer of The Boreal Valley's soundtrack works, so she will forever be my favorite boss just for that reason alone.

If you can I definitely recommend getting Sekiro, it’s so much fun. Hell I’ll hop on just to fight the small guys lol

Man, the memories I have of this game. First ever time I got to the crabs I got invaded by two players while I was fighting the watchdog npcs, and I beat all of them. That was the most euphoric feeling I've ever had and nothing has topped it since

Fun Fact: you can make your horrid trip through DS3's poison swamp less hell by using a dagger's weapon art (a super hop) to zoop your way across.
And the best part is that you dont lose the zooping even after you use up all of your blue bar!
Ah I see someone else used to watch DS3 speedruns. I legit use that dagger jump technique religiously now since seeing it.
I'm an idiot, I use the dagger thing as a slight skip in cathedral of the deep every run but I never think to use it anywhere else

@@mitchellbanks6278 Its not just one dagger, some smaller weapons have it, for example the twin daggers or the one slave hand axe from the guys with the long hood who like to hang at the wall and drop on you

I swear everyone loves the Abyss Watchers and is spooked by Yhorm. When I played for the first time I was like
"Ah, yes. Once again I'm fighting in the playground while completely out numbered, and papa is holding a machete over in the distance. I feel so young and powerful again!"
I'm glad you also fell in love with the awesomeness that is the Farron Greatsword. It's my favorite weapon in 3 by a wide margin, it's so fun to play with.

I love that every time someone plays Dark Souls 3 for the first time, everyone wears the Fallen Knight armor and uses the Farron GS, both of them are just so unarguably cool that it's impossible not to use them lol

The fact that she managed to defeat the transformed hollow with all the black snake things coming out without using fire bombs and without dying is incredibly impressive, let alone the rest of the stuff where she dies so little.
We know what comes next. The dynasty of difficulty, the pinnacle of parries, the smasher of spirits. Sekiro.

The fight with Yhorm gets even cooler if you do Siegward's questline, Shen. Keep that in mind for a future playthrough.
Well then Shenpai has played BloodBorn, Dark Soul's series. Now then all she need's to play is Sekiro then she truly has played them all.

@@HeyImThorn it's a rhythm game in disguise, every enemy attack follows a cadence that you can counter with the parry (eg; parry, parry, miss a beat, parry, slash, slash deathblow). The biggest mistake people usually make is trying to play it like a Souls game.
@@HeyImThorn every boss has a rhythm to their attacks, your parries, through repetition or skill, should match that rhythm to avoid damage
And Elden Ring whenever that finally drops. :D
I can't get over Shen defeating yhorm at 1:11:18 it literally looks like she jumps over the blade and at the climactic final swing collides swords with the giant and over powers him and it's so fast too it's amazing

I got that attack a million times and it's awesome because you get to hit the hand a few times for free

DS3 was my first souls and I immediately resound to a spiritual level with the demon greataxe. I beat every single boss with it starting with the abyss watchers, and yes Friede was a bitch but I tanked and traded so it was over in less than a minute

I gotta say Pointiff Sulyvahn's clone actually helped me beat him since his attacks were dealing less damage then the originals and they both performed the exact same movements it kinda felt like looking in the future to dodge the attack which I personally find really cool.
this game has the best soundtrack playlist of the dark souls series in my opinion
the main menu theme is so underappreciated but i am ready to vibe to it at any moment

Watching Shen fall in love with the Fallen Knight set and the Farron Greatsword is such nostalgia. PvP meta really made this game feel like a spreadsheet to me sometimes, so I'm glad I get to watch her have so much fun with my first loves.
