Watching Hasan forced to outline how socialism would exist as it's own system for 10 minutes has been more revealing than seeing him use socialism purely as an aesthetic to critique capitalism for 5 years. He has always been politically illiterate, but he seems downright malicious in way I didn't think he was.
I wouldn't say he is crazy good debator, these are like things a teenager should be able to respond from moral and logic standpoint 😅 I'm pretty sure at this point that Ethan has noticed him popping the dumb bubbles Hasan claims in his stream where no one is refuting him especially since he refuses to debate. So H3 have most likely watched his takes on things and goes for it since in this kinda forum Hasan cannot be like he is in his stream. If Hasan was entirely confident in his worldview he should appreciate Ethan grilling him on it, and as the premier socialist political streamer, should be able to make easy work of the very basic questions asked. Ethan did a great job challenging him.
The problem is that Hasan stopped doing debates years ago and rather than polishing his worldview and responding to critiques, he's been living in an echo chamber
Hasan believes people are subjected to false consciousness through people pushing back on Marxism and socialism. The Marxists believed it was an evil action. So no he won’t appreciate it.

Ethan is gaining much of my respect lately for addressing important issues and for pushing Hasan to engage more strongly with the arguments. You can tell Ethan is genuinely trying to understand the strengths and weaknesses of Hasan's views and regardless of what you think of Hasan, this is a good thing. I think this speaks to what this sphere lacks. 56:41 One of the things that kinda convinced me that socialism/central planning is BS was serving in the military. I've been in the military for going on eight years now. I see government mess up allocating labor and resources all the time! As large, rich, and powerful as a our government is, it still has alot of issues properly allocating resources and we're not even close to 1% of the US population. So, this idea that with some more computers that the government will be able to accurately account for and manage the many trillions of different aspects and transactions of the US economy is just laughable to me. Maybe if you literally trapped GOD in a computer, maybe it would work but, anything short of that is just wishful thinking.
It’s funny how socialists will often say socialism isn’t a utopia but then turn around and say that everyone will be so perfectly provided for that no one would even consider wanting to be a capitalist haha.
OH and don't forget the 'no true socialist/socialism' fallacy..... all those times over the last century it's been tried across all different cultures on every continent and FAILED HORRIBLY 100% of the time....that wasn't REAL socialism. IF they (whatever activist you're talking to) or someone from THEIR group/party had been "Dear Leader", "Vlad" or "Chairman" it would have been totally different!! THEIR socialism is perfect and will absolutely result in the communist utopia ....you just have to submit to their rule and hand over all your property/labor. LOL
I think democratic socialism is the way to go but past that (unless we somehow had infinite resources and no need for human labor on a mass scale) is just a dictatorship. Marxist-Leninists are no worse than conservatives tbh
Ethan’s perspective is so interesting because he’s coming in with genuine questions and testing hasans ideas. Hassan who I’d say is accustomed to not having to having his ideas directly challenged somewhat flounders when his ideology can’t provide an answer or the answer is optically bad. It’s one of the few opportunities now to see lefties get out to the fire in a way that requires a level of composure and competence and not meme through and offer the most generic opinion. And all Ethan has to do is comprehend it (which can be difficult with how much these guys like to obscure their intent), and poke it a couple times. I gained respect for Ethan after watching this. I used to think he was a mouth breathing reactionary content creator who tried to shock and or say what was necessary to get the highest viewership. I stand corrected his questions were well thought out. Hassan was clearly not ready for that, despite the questions being pretty obvious ones to ask.
Honestly, for a long time, I was incredibly disappointed with Ethan, because he seemed to have adopted an Ideology without really UNDERSTANDING what that Ideology actually entails, which struck me as disingenuous and even a little irresponsible. So, it’s nice to see him start to push back a bit, because he adopted an Ideology that is predicated on the Expectation that a Species of Imperfect Beings will be able to create a Perfect Utopian Society, which is OBVIOUSLY an impossible task to accomplish (even if it is an incremental process), and thus, it is also a preposterous waste of time and effort to invest that heavily in an Exercise in Futility that is doomed to failure from the very start.
He's been smart people have just been catching on lately for some reason. Plus he got some cancelation bs happen a couple years ago which I think left a scar
They feel like that because the average person even if they are say a socialist still don't know enough to be able to debate someone so they feel attacked, and the way they handle it is by insulting the person questioning them.
I feel like Hasan reads George Orwell and says to himself, "What's wrong with this? Everybody has exactly what they need to live. I wish I lived here!"
Hasan thinks he will be at the top of socialism where the 99% of money is held, if he truly believed in living on a small state ran socialist cheque he wouldn't live in a 3 million dollar house he would live 'realistically' to his own philosophy. To be honest I don't think it's H3's audience. The majority of the H3 audience actually agree with Ethan and some who were initially disagreeing with him just didn't realize they actually agree with him. I think they're starting to realize it based on how the conversations amongst the fans have been going. I've been a long time H3 fan and interact a bit within the fandom and from my perspective most fans seem like typical Bernie Sanders style social democrats. They want things like universal healthcare, education, housing etc. I think because in American politics people call Bernie Sanders a socialist and European social democracies socialist so they think well then I'm a socialist too and therefore capitalism bad. Many don't realize they're actually not socialists they're social democrats. They just initially freaked out hearing Ethan say capitalism good based on their misunderstanding. Another thing to consider is the size of the H3 audience vs how many were actually arguing for actual socialism. When Ethan first debated Dan Ethan seemed shocked at the response from chat like when he said to chat "are all you guys seriously radical communists?" A fan who's does data analysis was telling Ethan why he shouldn't pay so much attention to chat. He said during that episode 60% of comments from chat came from the same 200 people and that's with H3 averaging about 50k live viewers. It was just a tiny fraction of the live audience. The same can be said about the subreddit. Sure there were probably a dozen or more posts dragging Ethan or arguing in favor of socialism. But even though those posts had hundreds of up votes some probably 1,000+, you have to factor the amount of views the podcast gets. Not counting Leftovers with Hasan the regular H3 podcast averages about a million views per episode. So again it's just a tiny fraction of the fan base making those socialists posts on the subreddit and for sure many are Hasan fans. I just wanted to clear that up because it seems like people think the H3 fan base is full of radical socialists and from my experience it just doesn't seem like that's the case. Like I'm willing to bet if Ethan never mentioned the word capitalism and just said he wishes Bernie Sanders became president and modeled America after European social democracies there wouldn't have been an ounce of drama. Instead the entire audience would've cheered him on. Anytime Ethan says things like we need free healthcare or we should have free education, not once did the fanbase freak out and go, no it's not enough socialism is the only way. I just think they initially freaked out over Ethan saying capitalism good.
Ethan has been more or less the same since Israel, so I don't get it. His content has evolved, some not as good. Reading the comments, it sounds like he pissed off the old fans or something and doubled-down on his position. Basically what he did here with the Hasan fans.

this whole debate is basically ethan actually succesfully challenging socialism in many ways, asking great questions and mentioning huge concerns that would be the case in a socialist country (or have been the case, or both), and all hasan can really answer is 'muh ... also happens in capitalism', completely avoiding the question and its honestly so annoying, like is he trying to hide his real opinion or does he actually have no idea what hes talking about?
'It would suck if you thought you had 30 choices of product but actually they were all owned by 3 companies and you didn't get as much choice. That's why we should only have a single producer of the product and we can all have zero choice. '
And even his super idealistic scenarios don't work. He says 'Ethan is making $10, and hires dan and now makes $15.' Hasan says that 'therefore he should pay dan a livable wage PLUS $5'. ... So, ethan would make less money, where is the incentive to ever expand or hire someone? "Hire me and make less money for more work, also lose control of your business decisions." You just proved the anti-socialism point.
this ethan arc has thought me so much about the human condition. i used liked to like him back in the h3h3 days and then during the podcast era he lost a lot of favor with me. now its become clear that he has just been figuring shit out this entire time. as we all do. people arent in this locked in 'good' or 'bad' state they constantly morph and grow in their environments. also this is kind of a ballsy turn from ethan given the fanbase he's curated over the last 5 years not even counting the hasan viewers.

The thing is the vast majority of the H3 fanbase are not these radical socialists. There's no way he could have garnered such an audience when the podcast is centered around internet culture, drama, and comedy. Most of the fan base don't even like politics. Ethan said he created Leftovers with Hasan so he can talk politics because the audience hates it when he talks politics. On the regular episodes they might mention a political story here or there but generally he says he'll save it for Leftovers because the audience doesn't care. You can see it in the views too when you compare Leftovers to the regular H3 episodes. All this drama just came from a big misunderstanding. I've been a long time H3 fan and from my experience interacting with the fan base many are your typical Bernie Sanders style progressives. They want things like universal healthcare, education, affordable housing etc. It's just that in American politics they call Bernie Sanders a socialist and those policies socialism so they think they must be socialist too and therefore capitalism bad. They don't realize they're not socialists they're at most social democrats. The initial freak out came simply from Ethan saying capitalism good. Another thing to consider is the size of the fan base. A fan who does data analysis made the point to Ethan why he shouldn't listen too much to chat. He said on that particular episode 60% of the comments came from the same 200 people. With that in mind take into consideration H3 averages around 50k live viewers and the podcast (not counting Leftovers) averages about 1 million views per episode. I don’t understand this point Hassan keeps hammering that capitalist societies push “hyper individualism” and his socialist one would push collective attitudes. I think the difference is a free market capitalist society gives you the CHOICE to organize your life around any combination of individual and collective points. His socialist society would force you, ex reeducation centers, to adopt their collective view. In reality we see most people choose to be individualistic and capitalistic (Hassan especially)

I'm not even a socialist and I could come up with better answers. "if there's a capitalist party, by then we'll have proven that socialism works better, and they'll never win the vote. If it doesn't work better and they win, so be it, but I don't believe that will be the case."
The thing is that a "real" socialist would never actually say that. They'd say the capitalists managed to trick the proletariat once again into voting against their interests. Any real socialist would, at the absolute least, ban such parties from existing, and otherwise would intimidate, arrest, torture, and/or kill them.
That is a better answer than Hasan gave.. But that has a presumption baked into it. The question is, in a socialist world, if there is a counter-revolutionary persuasive leader who starts gaining traction and a capitalist party sprouts up and gains major momentum (which is a reasonable likelihood), how would the state deal with those dissidents to maintain the socialist structure from toppling. You can’t presume that “well it’ll have worked so well that it won’t matter”. That doesn’t answer the possibility that there might be a large group who might be persuaded that there could be an even better system, which happens all the time.
@@Robisquick Aren't you also baking an assumption into your question? All I'm doing is the same thing you're doing, assuming "my side" will be more persuasive in this hypothetical. >which is a reasonable likelihood If someone is confident in socialism, then they shouldn't believe that. They should believe that once "true socialism" is implemented, people will prefer it over capitalism. If they don't believe that, then why even be a socialist?
Not quite, Ethan straight up asked, what if there is a capitalist uprising. Meaning what if enough people aren't convinced about the current model of socialism. Because Hasan is trying to pursuade or justify why socialism would work better than the current system, the onus is on Hasan to ensure that his model has accounted for realistic contingencies. Therefore, Hasan can't make an assumption and neatly answer a question with "well it'll be so good that an uprising wouldn't happen".. cause that begs the question, "In what way will the system ensure that satisfaction is met to the standard of eliminating uprising?"... See how the answer doesn't actually provide further information to justify socialism but rather just begs the question? @@JesterAzazel
write this down, the relation between hasan and ethan will become worse and hasan will ask to delete that video because he's free to ask and he has copyright on that
The way Hasan describes the wages sounds like it discourages small companies from existing. If they’re forced to pay a certain percentage of their company but it isn’t enough to make a livable wage that company won’t exist because of the lack of employees. He’s complaining about monopolies but his exact system would only make monopolies stronger. 1:02:20
My problem with socialism, and even democratic socialism, or possibly liberalism in general, is theres never a limit to how far you go, like everything is incremental until you hit the wall, the wall being full socialism. I feel like we are projecting things on capitalism, that arent actually capitalism, and when ever a socialist references capitalism, their just talking about a free market. Capitalism has checks to insure that were not tyrannized by corporations, our politicians just opt not to regulate them. Like im fine with employee protections, and things like that, but we need to be extremely careful when trying to advance when socialism is concerned, unions for example, there are some good unions, but there are unions that abuse their point, pushing companies to the breaking point. Sometimes those protections extend into mechanisms of power by extension of the government, i think when you have the government being used to wreak havok on a company, even with a collective agreement from some of the workers, i dont think thats fair. People depend on the company, its revenue, and its products, and just because you dont get your way, the company shouldnt go down in flames. To me thats just tyranny in the guise of employee protection.
Destiny is so so cathartic to watch. I grew up in Socal after being born abroad to parents fleeing the Soviet Union. Having to suffer people in high school wearing hammer and sickle emblems and Che Guevara shirts, looked like confederate flags and nazi uniforms to me.
there's a part in the video where hasan argues that his 5 way podcast split is technically unfair for a labor standpoint because he "brings the largest audience" and the ironic part is that hasan considers this "work" for his LTV viewpoint. In actuality, hasan explicitly has just argued that he brings more capital (audience) to the podcast. it was at this moment I realized he actually doesn't know what he is talking about instead of just being poorly spoken. @36:14
Who knew Ethan was capable of being unironically based? It's impossible to pay someone a percentage of the value they bring to a company outside of very specific circumstances like Sales. Coincidentally - things like Sales often do have a profit incentive by paying based on the sales they provide. For someone like myself, who is in a backend/regulatory position, it's impossible to know how much value I bring to the company because I mostly exist to prevent the company from being sued and/or fined. It's much easier to let the two parties negotiate their own value and it becomes a market driven commodity in and of itself. I know what the value of my contribution is based on my experience and what peer companies have offered and will offer to me. If a company doesn't meet my expectations, then I choose not to work with them and find someone who does. As an example of how easily it fails - think of how many businesses there are/have been where two or more people enter into the creation of a business with the expectation that they split profits equally. Then, inevitably, it gets to a point where one person thinks or is bringing more value or working harder to make the business successful than the other. This inevitably results in some sort of dissolution either of the relationship or the business. This happens so far more often than it doesn't. People are inherently inequal in multiple ways and as such the only way to make it work is for the system to be voluntary.
Yeah seriously. How would you ever grade someone's performance in a preventative role? Lets say your job is to go around your company's various locations and ensure the internal policies are being followed concerning safety and to investigate instances where they may have been broken. There is no conceivable way to determine what percentage of the profit they conserve by preventing workers from falling and hurting themselves.
hasan say that because he never worked in his entire life, ask him what he did as a worker Nothing and if he mentioned where he worked there wont be evidence He's just aristocratic child and not even a man, sometime you can be aristocratic and a man, but he isnt
@@ErcoleBellucci I think further it's just evident he's had no interaction with the functional world. Everything is abstract in his mind since he only understands fundamentals, when you propose an actual employment situation he can't aswer to it. In reality the idea of a "company" doesn't exists under Hasan's Socialism, you can't employ people and also hold and own all means of production/labor, instead each person becomes an agent and then you contractually agree to purchase the others service, i.e an Employee agreement.
This is a master class in using super simple questions to completely tear down someones entire ethos. The sad thing is Hasan should be asking him self these questions, and using them to figure out wether what he belives in is viable or just theoretic bull shit.
@@remodz6385 That is exactly it. He has no real convictions. He is honestly probably fairly politically apathetic, he just found a really good niche to make mad money.
So if I’m getting this socialism thing right, Hassan wants a ceo to build a company for years, hire workers with his own pay and then leave it to the workers to vote if he should lose even more of his money? Because I might kms if this ever pass😭. What if all your workers just love the general manager, should he be making more than the ceo now?
I love how he remarks that Nazis werent left wing. Yet they were literally socialists. Like half of Adolf's policies, most liberals would appreciate. Massive welfare programs, guaranteed work and massive regulations on various other liberal policies. Even back in the 30's we can find liberal political figures praising him before they found out he was commiting genocide. Destiny may knock on people for being uneducated. But I wonder if that means either he's choosing to be deceitful or uneducated himself.
While Nazism called itself "National Socialism" their ways were more analogous to hypercapitalism. "Hitlers regime was characterized by massive interventions to help out private businesses". They considered the "unproductive" wasteful expense, basing human worth off of profit. They paraded themselves as socialists to appeal to people who wanted socialism, because a government has to sell itself to the people for it to be in favor
So basically, hasans advertising why we should appreciate capitalism more than we already do. He did a fantastic job. His fans must be proud of his charisma and genius, and his strange but inspiring way of explaining how socialism will lead to a massacre against all who disagree.
Why do these people constantly harp on wages and productivity? Some places that can make sense depending on what you are doing but I work at a job where all my productivity is down to making sure machines are running. The reason workers are more "productive" in a lot of these sectors is because of capital investments aka machinery, computers, and programming structures. I can make a product with my machines (we make corn starch) that a whole lot of what i make that all I sometimes do for 12 hrs a shift is make sure the product is within spec and nothing else because the machines are running well and programming is working can sometimes be worth like 500,000 dollars. 12 hrs......you know what I've been able to do for most of the night while making the company that money? Sit on my butt whip out my laptop and f$king play elden ring for 7 hrs. Productivity is not always tied to more labor and idiots like Hasan literally cannot make that logical leap. Also just sticking the word democracy in front of each of you're arguments is the laziest and dumbest way to argue for anything. If 51% of the company employees vote against the remaining 49% of the employees that benefits the 51% more than what can the 49% do against that? Congratulations this democracy you champion for just became oppressive for almost half the workforce
This arc is amazing. On the theory of ice-cream economics: It's suggested by anthropologists that Ancient Egyptians could make ice and by extension ice cream in the middle of the desert by digging a cellar deep enough and storing water in it until it freezes. If one wanted authentic-style ancient ice cream, is it still gonna be like, same price as a choco-taco? Hasan's socialism feels like ISIS more than Marxism.
Hasan fails to realize that "having all your needs met" is only possible for the bottom two rungs of Maslow's heirarchy. Only a man without propose would be happy with unlimited Oreos.
I was working and listening, was hard to catch everything because Hasan talked pretty fast and Ethan did not want to elaborate on more concerning language but having a second listen and watching other reactions, I cannot believe he said we would "re-educate them.." I cannot believe Ethan did not press him on that harder, they just kinda moved on... I know they were doing a open discussion and it was all in "good fun" but I think Hasan actually would allow and believe that line of thinking and his whole fan base would be totally complicit in it.
Surely a handful of Hasan's fans would be aware enough to leave if they really spelt it out. It didn't sound like Hasan was ever going to paint a realistic picture.
You must not be familiar with super lefty content creators, because openly advocating for re-education camps, genocide, struggle sessions, etc. has been the norm for years now.
Ironically through the argument that there is no monetary minimum, Hasan has stated that in his "socialism with small bits of capitalism" there would be no minimum wage. All that would be required is that the workers voting on revenue share for new employees, basically a board of directors, would vote that they get a much smaller share than them and you're back to square laissez-faire. Hell, what would stop the other workers from putting this minimum time to join the decision-making process at something ridiculously long in order to keep workers down. What about job-hopping and moving from company to company? Literally basic ass questions stump his argument every time.

This is the Ethan I miss. He use to have great commentary. He is actually very smart. Last few years he has turned into a person who just talks bad about every one.
Tbh his main demographic of fans is young women, so it makes sense to me, at least, that he pivoted his content towards that audience (i.e. more so talking about pop culture drama). I know this is where a lot of people stopped caring for him but I feel like it was understandable.
What I don't understand, is how this same fanbase is shocked that Ethan, a successful production company owner married to another successful business owner, is a defender of capitalism. It's just so funny to me how people keep acting surprised by Ethan and Hasan being ideologically opposed to each other on this part but he's always been like this lol
It's the audience he attracts, which has a certain leaning he then has to conform to; overtime, adapting it authentically.. It's a weird phenomenon, but you see this same thing happen all the time

His reactions to Ky Cenat were completely braindead, using the Aladdin defense for looters, but his debate skills seem pretty high.

It's so painfully obvious he skims articles and then shouts exactly like that student on his stream as any basic question becomes unanswerable

If thats the case, he's mentally ill... Like straightjacket insane.
Hasan thinks he will be at the top of socialism where the 99% of money is held, if he truly believed in living on a small state ran socialist cheque he wouldn't live in a 3 million dollar house he would live 'realistically' to his own philosophy. Ironically if he was working for peanuts in a socialist state that's the thing he would make him realize it sucks the most as he clearly likes big spending.

@@RockPile_Marxism is basically a religion. Catholic apologists always have an answer for every possible question. Just because you may not be as dumb as Hasan doesn't mean you're right.
@@RockPile_a simple question for you then. When will you grow up?

All this drama just came from a big misunderstanding. I've been a long time H3 fan and from my experience interacting with the fan base many are your typical Bernie Sanders style progressives. They want things like universal healthcare, education, affordable housing etc.

There's some huge chunk of the population that would rather be starving in a freezing government provided concrete box somewhere and lining up in the bread line for 9 hours a day and working a government job digging holes and filling them back up again, as long as it means they don't have to write a resume and look for a job, or think about how they should get educated to provide for themselves, or decide where to rent/buy a place, or make any of the normal day to day decisions you have to make to be responsible and live in a free society.

A social democrat advocates for even more regulation on business and the expansion of government funded programs, but they still want to operate under the capitalist economic model, where private citizens control industry and trade for profit.
@@jgreen802 "capitalism with social safety nets and more regulations" is an oxymoron. As you said, pure capitalism does not exist. And, any involvement of the goverment and trade unions on the means of production means there is no longer private ownership.
Sure, people can privately trade, but only under the laws regulated by the government. The government literally dictates who, what, and why private trade can occur. This is not capitalism. Nor is it socialism. Thus, "operate under the capitalist economic model" does not make sense.
@@oluwasegunoriola9834 You're not only wrong but even if you were right it wouldn't matter. Let's say you're right and capitalism doesn't exist. So what? The argument is the system we currently have, whatever you want to call it vs. socialism. And socialism is infinitely worse.

Or just say they can get elected but the constitution will limit what they can do
That is a better answer than Hasan gave..
@@Robisquick
Aren't you also baking an assumption into your question?
All I'm doing is the same thing you're doing, assuming "my side" will be more persuasive in this hypothetical.

If someone is confident in socialism, then they shouldn't believe that.

There is no conceivable way to determine what percentage of the profit they conserve by preventing workers from falling and hurting themselves.
hasan say that because he never worked in his entire life, ask him what he did as a worker
Nothing and if he mentioned where he worked there wont be evidence
He's just aristocratic child and not even a man, sometime you can be aristocratic and a man, but he isnt
I can always count on destiny to give Hasan his %120
unli black flash. Destiny out there like Yuji
This is a master class in using super simple questions to completely tear down someones entire ethos. The sad thing is Hasan should be asking him self these questions, and using them to figure out wether what he belives in is viable or just theoretic bull shit.
Commies are like religious folk. Deep down its pre supposing all.
It’s obvious he doesn’t actually believe what he spouts. It’s just a virtue signal to keep HIS income coming in
I actually think he does believe the shit he sayd, which is even more insane and ironic.@@remodz6385
I’ve never been more excited to rewatch a 3 hour convo
Hasan should've just called it a re-education funhouse.
You do realise the first concentration camps the Nazis ever built were for socialists, right?
Sadly, I doubt his fans made as strong of a connection to the really bad parts.
As someone who knows Japanese wage slaves they absolutely can and will fire you if you don’t do the right amount of work
I can't believe he put Japanese work culture on some sort of pedastal when it's probably #1 reason for the suicide rates.
And with very similar outcomes.
we're not living in late stage capitalism, we're living in late stage internet socialism, and thank god for that
Best comment I’ve seen all year
Hasan fails to realize that "having all your needs met" is only possible for the bottom two rungs of Maslow's heirarchy.
I assume most of that is people being edgelords who don't mean it.
Same pfp haver
Ironically through the argument that there is no monetary minimum, Hasan has stated that in his "socialism with small bits of capitalism" there would be no minimum wage. All that would be required is that the workers voting on revenue share for new employees, basically a board of directors, would vote that they get a much smaller share than them and you're back to square laissez-faire. Hell, what would stop the other workers from putting this minimum time to join the decision-making process at something ridiculously long in order to keep workers down. What about job-hopping and moving from company to company? Literally basic ass questions stump his argument every time.
"In Japan, once you get hired, they can't fire you. So they are mean to you until you quit."
Sounds like a lovely system!
