I would love to see a full restore! Show the process. Strip that green off and bring it back. Cool bike.
Agreed.
That thing would take a ton of money to source all of the parts it needs.
@VortexModz it will, but it will also cost a lot of cash to restore.
i recommend the orangey red
Runs surprisingly well considering there's no expansion chamber.
My exact first thoughts..
It would run with no exhaust the two strokes are the simplest engines going especially air cooled.
That lil joints gns hit the powerband it's gna be a Pepe little bike
$80 on ebay WORTH IT
Not all 2-strokes have expansion chamber as on the dirt bikes. The street 2-strokes usually don't have or is very small compared to dirt bikes.
Brings back memories. Used to have a 1980 CR80. Bought it for 300$ in 1982 as a basket case. Had a bad shift fork, cracked side cover and the piston was cracked. Had some good times on that thing. Would ride the right away under the power lines down to the gravel pit. My cloths were so stained from the clay it never came clean. Funny how we could get around without using the roads.
An expansion chamber not only scavenges the exhaust, it's also designed to time the pressure waves that keep the new fuel/air mixture from flowing out of the exhaust port. Some escapes anyway, Much more is escaping with that straight pipe. Not too restrictive. Take a look at the stinger at the end of a stock bike's exhaust baffle, the diameter of it's opening is much smaller than the pipe that you have on that bike.
It doesn’t rev out because it doesn’t have an mx pipe on it. It’s allowing zero scavenging which is what a 2t relies on for optimal performance. That little bike will blow ur mind once u find the model pipe that belongs on it. That could be an awesome bike!!
If he takes off the pipe will he have it have the same effect as having an expansion chamber ? Simply curious
@@chefboyardee885 no.
@@chefboyardee885 no absolutely not needs back pressure
True dude. Straight through is no good
Great video btw
@@chefboyardee885 no it needs to have a chamber. It scavenges unspent fuel that reverberates Orr the back cone which gives it its true performance. I’m surprised it goes as good as it does in this video. With a proper exhaust this will be a powerful machine
you find such good deals, where i live everyone thinks their old junk bikes are worth more than they actually are.
you just gotta be patient and wait for the desperation to sell hits them. Maybe even go look, make your offer, let them deny it, and say "I'll think about it". The temptation of the cash in your hand may sway them.
Yea same here people are asking 750 for a rolling chassis with no engine and like 2 grand for a pos
Same here in Toledo, OH. People think their garbage is high priced merchandise!! Lol.
@@M.TTT. a while ago i went to look at a 1985 dt 175 that the seller described as “good running condition” and “no issues”. when i got there, the compression was low, the exhaust pipe had a hole in it, the carby was pissing fuel everywhere, the clutch didn’t work, neither of the brakes worked, and the ignition barrel was all jacked up so pretty sure it was stolen. and the worst part is the guy wanted $800!!
@@heathwak3030 lmao wow. At least I'm honest when I list a sh*tbox bike or vehicle lol
I tried restoring an old Triumph motorcycle and I would do it again if I got it for free because it ain't cheap to buy all the rare parts, very nice job going through and diagnosing the problems and getting it to run.
Ok ,, u are living the american dream ,,
U actually like what you're doing ,,very obvious ,,and make a living at it !!! ,,, saving old history ,! !inspire people ..
I could go on ,,
U need more sponsors,,,
Props ..keep it up ..good stuff
Credit to you for getting that abused old bike going. Your braver than me taking on a bike in such a state. What there is of it, anyway.
For it to have lived the beatings it's had in its rough life surely it's got to be worthy of a restoration giving it still runs and rides love your videos
27:20, When you start if for the first time it literally sounds like it's saying Yeah, Yeah, Yeah like it's happy to be brought back to life. Great.
my guess is the previous owner sold the plastics and the air box and then sold you what was left. You did a great job getting that thing running again. I did not think it would run.
I know nothing but I think the exhaust needs an expansion chamber it is a two smoke great videos thanks for producing content.
2 stroke exhaust pipes have an expansion chamber (the big bulge in the pipe) that goes down to a small diameter pipe allowing proper back pressure and producing more power for the 2 stroke engine. Anywho, great video Joe!! I really hope you find some plastics and invest a little more into the CR80. It could be a sweet little bike!!
Don t strip it down for parts,it's got character and has had a rough life. Its been waiting for someone, like you to bring it back to life.
I have a 1979 Yamaha gt 80,which was in a similiar state.
But the thrill to give its first ride out you can't beat.
These small bikes can be money pits, most have been abused,by teenagers and adults!!
Hey man awesome video I have been watching you for some time and learned a lot of stuff from you I’m 17 and I already know a lot about working on engines thanks to videos like yours, I appreciate what you do you for sure deserve the land you got keep it up!
I have an 82 CR80. They are nice but not as nice as other 80's of this year. You are such an inspiration to me. I am so nervous working on my bikes.
The YZ monoshock was cool at the time.
I have my dads bike from when he was 6. it also is a 1980 cr80 Elsinore. they were only made for a few years. last rebuild was 30+ years ago and it still runs pretty good and starts in a few kicks. even in super cold weather it starts in a few kicks
Joe, love the little bikes they bring back fond memories. If you get a chance to do a minibike like an old Rupp, that would be awesome!👍👍👍
This guy showed me basically how to fix my 1972 Honda c70 just watching him repeatedly fixing carbs and doing throttle cables and other basic maintenance I felt confident enough to fix it myself I just put a coil pack in cause the old spark plug wire and the internals got cut up by a person who I previously paid to fix it and got f#ked over. Traded a new iphone and 300$ cash to fix it and it got dropped off at my house in shambles. It's my grandparents moped from my mom and my uncle's childhood and they gave it to me to fix it was sitting in their basement for well over 25 years. I'm just glad to see it running and driving now and so are my grandparents I wanted to get it done before they go...
Cool story
New piston/ring and find the factory expansion chamber pipe, and I bet that little bike will run like a scalded beast!
Make it the original white and red man love your videos it just satisfying when a old bike starts again after years of years of neglect especially a old 2 stroke
Those Retro bikes are old fashioned news plus they're pretty hard to get parts for
Expansion chamber exhaust will easily increase the power by 50% plus bro . Great rare find .
Just gave it a new life. It will make a new kid happy for sure!
Good find Joe. Brings back memories. My first bike was a 1980 CR80 Elsinore. Even in the mid 90s parts were scarce but my dad kept the bike going and those are memories that I now share with my kids who ride as well.
Love the resurrection video on a Sunday !
These beater bike vids with a ride at the end . I know the feeling
Man that bikes had a rough life, some people shouldn't be allowed to buy paint lol
I know it's horrible!
I hear ya, I hate when people paint like that also.
Yessss 1000% sometimes people do alright but this is a horrible example and I cant stand when they just throw black on EVERYTHING
@@Ja-fh8io it's not your bike why do you care? Does it hurt your feeling when someone does whatever they want to their own shit? Grow some balls jesus
@@dr.z3426 it is now his bike
The CR80 was an awesome bike! As an adult, I could pull wheelies on it in the first two gears!
Tires hold air, there’s an engine and it’s a Honda! Sure it’ll be ready to hit the trails in no time
throw something that resembles gas and oil in the tank and go!
Haha so true
Had a cr 60 when I was a boy it was very quick even with my dad on it. Black engine blue seat and red frame and plastics I remember it like yesterday I’m 34 now!
Holy moly.. You guys over there are sooooooooooooo lucky to still have these things come up for that kind of money. CR80.. AR80.. Stuff like this goes for 10x or plus more in europe and is almost impossible to find. And the CR80 was probably the most insane mini bike ever.. although this one is legendary old.. Great stuff. :)
Thanks for helping this poor little CR. Enjoyed the video, as always!
i dont know why, but ive always had a fascination with air cooled 2 strokes of that era. they just look so cool. especially with the dual rear shocks.
I remember when those bikes were new . They were damn fast! The tank is worth what you paid for it. The exhaust pipe is an Evo sporster pipe. The shocks aren't original. They had piggyback shocks. Also I remember that they had a chromoly cylinder. Had to replate them. No boring out. I saw 1 on Craigslist for $3000. I'm sure it will be costly to restore but worth it IMO. Parts are still around. We had 1 come through our shop and mostly complete. I wanted to fix it up but the boss parted it out. That was a sad day for me. Thanks
Those little bikes are wicked fast but you need the correct pipe.
Awesome video man, love the channel. I've learned so much from your videos, keep up the amazing work!
I had an 87 cr250 that took that exact same plug. Br9es. I can still remember that 30 years on.
Some kid would be so happy to get this bike exactly in it's present condition, even with the head gasket blowing out the left side. IT RUNS GOOD. Some kid with this bike could be the next world champion dirt track monster rider. If you put a new head gasket and the proper pipe on it he could ride this thing literally to death even with a slipping clutch. It might have enough power to actually hurt itself with a proper pipe.
these bikes rip for 80cc, rode one myself
these bikes rip for 80cc, rode one myself
a buddy had one in 1987, i could slide that thing sideways on the road around corners, these bikes are pretty powerful for a mere 80cc, definitely a surprise, great bikes.
Wow this is the bike I learned to ride on when I was about 9 years old my dad bought me. Age 12 I started racing motorcross and never looked back...great channel bro..
Looks like about half the bikes we get in here. Great project, awesome find!!
So nostalgic! Had a blast on these in the younger years! 😎💯
Always find it a shame how hard parts are to find for theses older bike just think back in 1980 this was someone pride and joy
so good!!!,,i think youve had a win !!,,,you saved another one,,,with a expansion chamber it will haul the mail --fantastic,,i would not have bought it,,,and i would have lost out ,,no guts no glory,,,all the best from australia,,,,,,very inspiring
Keep it , I had a fully worked 79 rm 80 .it pulled up huge climbs easy with carbon reeds and lightend flywheel. Blueprinted
Had a CR 80 chrome frame float gasket found sideways. Good pipe midrange very strong loved it.
'Chrome frame float gasket'????
@@bananabrooks3836 came with a chrome frame, where the float needle goes to shut off the gas was not in flat, so it leaked gas why guy sold it.
@@darrellroeters4951 l understand now thanks.
Love the towel seat cover and the spray painted fuel tank. Lord how these punks booger up their expensive toys. Gut luck!
These vintage bikes are pretty cool! Keep making vintage bike videos!
Reminds me of a kawasaki G5 100 my dad found on a junk pile . We cobbled it together with parts from other bikes. I rode it for years as a kid . Cool Honda .
That picture is museum quality. Haven't seen one that nice or complete.
This one of the rougher ones lately for sure!
hey Joe great video . that pipe is a drag pipe from a harley sportster or something it's wide open I believe and twice size of stock 2 smoke pipe with proper pipe may rev flawlessly
i love these videos it makes me wanna go fix something rt
That is the exact model of my twin friends, they each got one for Christmas. But my Honda XR-75 was much faster than theirs. They never could beat me. Even years later. But mine was used by my friend who used it to race. I am sure it was modified. My carb was upgraded. And possibly bored. Not exactly sure. But one of them wanted my bike. I let him ride mine, and I sure found how slow his was. He desperately wanted to trade. That engine was just like mine, on my XR-75. I wish I knew what mods was done to my bike. I know he did not change the engine. He upgraded to a bigger bike, and he sold me his XR bike.
Those are pretty easy to tear down and go through Fyi. Great little find, get some original plastics, and make it look respectable. 👌 pit bike dont need to be perfect.
It definitely need the expansion chamber on it.
Bro there is nothing like 2stroke engine's I love the sounds of em
Joe please save this one if you can would enjoy seeing this being restored not every day you get a good one like this to start of with
Give yourself a pat on the back. Most people would look at that and throw it in the dumpster. You got it running and driving. 🤘
Me on nearly 'Every' of a Joe vid, in this case @7:31 : "Please Joe, for the love of the dirtbikes gods, put WD-40 or something down spark plug hole FIRST before doing any of that" !
Next video will be your 1,000th video. Congratulations!!! That’s a huge milestone.
like to see the old 2 strokes ❤
Lol I painted the tank, now it's a Honda. The tank looks mint, meanwhile I'm out here struggling to paint my motorcycle perfectly.
think the power band has snapped in that one, im pretty sire you could start another channel up alongside this one and restore some of the bikes you get
Nice bugeye Zuma rocking the Athena pipe
That's one old ass bike. Could see it as a 1980, i have a 1980 XL 125, runs like a top, 6 speed, was street legal. Just did a 150 big boe on it last summer, fast little bugger!!
my buddy had that bike brand new. in 1980. the bike had zero bottom end or mid range, but when you get into the powerband hold on
I think you should try to find all the missing plastics and pipe and build it up!! Cool little bike.
I just scraped the whole frame plastics and tank to my Atv salvage yard but I kept the motor, carb ,electrical and pipe ….lmk if your interested
That is a 1980 CR80. I had the same exact model, purchased new as a kid, and set up with the same suspension height. The 81 had an ally swingarm. I believe '82 went pro-link. Those are not the stock Showa shocks. Those are Fox with dual spring rates, and are longer for larger travel. The Showas were piggyback and shorter. It looks like the fork has been lengthened with a Terry kit? If you ever pull the cylinder and find it ported and polished...it may be my old bike ;-))
i think you should keep it and do a build episode on it. would be a cool lil toy to mess about with in the yard
Parts will probably be near impossible to find unfortunately
Man I dig your barn finds, the only thing original on that bike is the red paint. Your a master motorcycle mechanic👍🏼👍🏼
i have a 70s model suzuki apache ts400 . you can mix the fuel or just add 2 stroke oil and the carb will mix it for you , weird setup ---- the bike in the video sort of reminded me of my apache
Smiled the whole video! ❤
This would honestly be a really fun bike
I’m happy for you man 🙌
Heck of a little find!
You need the right expansion chamber bro for at different revolutions the expansion chamber pushes unburnt fuel and air into the chamber keeping powerband up
If you don't rebuild it use the transmission and clutch from that bike in a Honda MB5. It's a direct swap and is the key piece to final form of the MB5.
I hope you didn't forget that you are 1 vid away from the 1000th 😉
I naught a 80 ke125 mx bike for 400,I didn’t get lucky lol, someone already tried a new piston and rings I found out and they didn’t bother to hone so there’s corrosion on the cylinder walls,I’ve ordered everything for a rebuild looking forward to the next few years of life from her
This is a awesome find ..awesome project to ...yeah I agree with the power pipe or expanchion chamber blah blah they do go really hard I'm not sure what they rev out to but I'd say between 10 000 and 12 000 rpm at a guess ..
Nice little backyard ripper or first bike to tinker with for a kid. Ditch that hepatitis seat cover though, lol. The suspension stance kinda make it look like a downhill mountain bike. I like it!!
I paid the same for a 2008 Zongshen 250 that runs and drives, had leaking form seals and no rear break hose
If it were mine I'd look to restore it and source as many NOS parts as I could find. But I'm the kinda guy who will bring home stray ratty looking dogs because they need a home.
If you had a lift Joe it sure does make a difference, really saves the back.
Bro coming in clutch with the barn finds
I kid you not I was looking at this listing lmao! Hello from Albany!
Bro….some 2Vintage “huh…”merch is in order.
If the wheels are good, they fit the XR80 and 100 and later CRF80 and 100. A great way to get a 17” front wheel on one of these bikes to get rid of the 16”
I'm 53 years old & I'd love to get ahold of that mini motorcycle
Nice vid can't wait for the property
Yeah it's going to be awesome!
@@2vintage yes
That pipe is not restrictive enough. Needs back pressure and an expansion chamber tuned to that engine. I picked up a little Honda sl70 for cheap, restored it and sold it for 8k. This one would probably get a pretty penny if you restored it
Looks like an old mini bike from Montgomery wards from early 70s, with maybe a Honda motor shoved in it.
Like most people have said you need to get the right pipe when you do that the little thing might scare you when it hits its power band should pull the front wheel up like nothing
I have a really nice 80’ cr80, great bike!
Cool little project, nice find and good work on her so far brotha
Order parts and get it back nice. Love to see how you do on it if you bring it back.
That's a Harley Davidson sportster exhaust...lol it's from the front cylinder...it's suprising the bike fired right up..can't beat a honda...love the content buddy...keep the videos coming...
I had an 81 cr 80r Elsinore. It was 60mph of awesome. I wish I never sold it
