    In this video, we'll take a deep dive into the new Parametric Modeling public beta released by Shapr3D. I'll take you through a project, modeling a nightstand, from beginning to end and show you how to use all the new tools and features available in this beta to create a fully updateable model. The techniques in this video will work in Windows, Mac, and iPad versions of Shapr3D. I'll show you the difference between parametric modeling and direct modeling methods, and the tradeoffs between the two methods. You will learn how to properly constraint your sketches and bodies with extrusions so everything will update with one click.

    So excited about this update. Playing with the beta right now.
    Do you think they'll introduce variables (or have they, and I haven't found it)? As in, defining a variable and then setting dimensions to that variable so that changes to the variable affects all dimensions to which that variable is assigned. I love the UI in Shapr3D but I haven't been able to move from Fusion360 because that ability to define and easily change variables is so critical. If a client says "I want it about 3 feet longer..." I don't want to have to go in and manually change all the objects that affect that overall length individually. There can also be dimensions that are meant to be proportional to the overall length, and I'd have to go and recalculate and change all those dimensions manually as well.
    With Fusion360, I can create a spreadsheet with a bunch of variables. I can set one variable (Overall_Length) to 5 ft. Set another variable to half of that first variable. Then, if I have to change the overall length because the client requests it, I just change that one variable and all variables that are dependent on it and all dimensions that reference it will automatically update.
    If Shapr3D can implement that, I will never look back.

    Question: The "BindType" that allows the bodies to transform together like you did at time-marker 9:20 is no longer there or has been named something else with the latest update. I was wondering if you knew how to do this similar effect, where you can bind things to transform/change together, in the new version?

    I love shapr3d. It reminds me so much of the CAD program I started on, I-DEAS. The one thing I wish they would do is allow you to buy the program outright instead of paying monthly/yearly to get the full program contents.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  9 місяців тому

      Yeah but they update the program every 2 weeks with new tools and functions. I think if they let you buy the program outright, it’ll be out of date pretty quick, even if they do let you update everytime for one or two years

      So the debate is whether the customer should pay monthly for updates he didn't ask for or not. Scaling is not working with the legs. When I go to extrusion 1 and change the depth the legs deform and start to break apart. It also undoes the joinery on the legs and cross member. It does the same thing when going to sketch one and changing over all length. I have gone back 3 times and followed step by step to make sure I did everything in the video and get the same results every time. Not really sure what I’m doing wrong.

  • @fluxcapacitor
    @fluxcapacitor 8 місяців тому

    Did Shapr3D finally introduce the ability to duplicate an object several times, and make all of them as a single "component" i.e. various occurrences of the exact same object, meaning that if one makes the slightest change to an occurence, that modification is propagated instantly to all other duplicated occurrences of that component? This is available in almost all CAD softwares but is conspicuously absent from Shapr3D. They claimed that such a feature would require a new software built on a History-Based Parametric Modeling engine. Which is precisely what they've done under the hood with this upcoming brand new version.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  8 місяців тому +1

      Yep it’s in the parametric modeling update

    • @fluxcapacitor
      @fluxcapacitor 8 місяців тому

      @@BevelishCreations Good news, but I looked at the Shapr3D beta and fail to see how to create instances of components anywhere. Same thing on the Shapr3D Discourse forum where their team said that it is achievable in the beta using the Copy or Pattern tools, without actually showing how. Do you know an article or tutorial explaining this?

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  8 місяців тому

      @fluxcapacitor when you talk about “instances and components”, I’m guessing you mean how to update multiple parts at the same time? That’s what my tutorial showed how to do it. The way parametric modeling works is by copying and pasting it, and then make adjustments in the history timeline, not to the part itself

    • @fluxcapacitor
      @fluxcapacitor 8 місяців тому

      @@BevelishCreations Ok, I see. When I am talking of "instances of components", I am talking like in my first post above of making a particular object as a component, i.e. when I duplicate this component X times, any manual modification done to one of its occurrences will modify all the others at the same time accordingly, because they are in fact the exact same object and not independent copies. Like Components in Macromedia/Adobe Flash if you remember.
      For example, imagine you draw a little pole on the edge of a flat disk that you copy say, 100 times with the pattern tool, like nails distributed at the rim of a circular mirror. If you want to make additional modification to the design of that pole, for example a chamfer, you have to do it manually 100 times in a row in Shapr3D. That's preposterous. However, I understand that now with the History feature you can go back, make the desired modification to the first pole, then duplicate it again a hundred times with the Pattern tool again. But a true component would be so much easier in this case!
      In your video here, the way you play with constrained adjustments in the timeline to make a particular model "responsive" to further modifications makes sense; however in the case of separate distant objects, I find this way of doing things particularly cumbersome with respect to a simple button "make component" that still doesn't exist even in the HBPM beta sadly.

    • @BevelishCreations
      @BevelishCreations  8 місяців тому

      @fluxcapacitor yeah I see what you’re talking about. With parametric modeling, everything is connected based on mathematical parameters that we set. So when we make updates to one part, the matching part will update, but so will the rest of the model. Which makes it much quicker and efficient than simply updating the matching parts alone. So for example, with a box. If we use “instance and components” to update the box side panels, only the side panels will update. You’ll still have to update the top/bottom panels. Whereas with parametric modeling, one change will update all panels. Yes, the initial setup is more complicated, but it will make updating much quicker
