I've had a Spacemouse since I shifted my primary design work into Inventor. I can't imagine working 3d without it.

I’ve been a 3Dconnexion user for about 20 years. I’ve had five of them over the years. The Enterprise is my favorite but the two button single knob format is also good.
Most importantly, I have to say that pulling the knob up or pushing down should make the model space go up and down. Pushing away should make the model space push away. That’s one of the two default choices they give you and it’s so intuitive, because it feels like the knob is actually the model space. As if you’re holding the object with your left hand. The way you move the knob, is the way you move the object.
It would not be good to get used to the other setup that you show at the beginning of the video, then decide later that you want to switch to the more natural and intuitive setup.
I know that’s the default way of using it, but I’ve been using one of these for 15 years and have always had it setup this way. I doubt I’ll ever go back to the other way 😆

When I advise new users, I always tell them to set it so the workspace moves the same way that the knob moves.

Hey Alex, great explanation of the spacemouse. I've seen people use a loupedeck / streamdeck on there productivity, setups and i've even seen people using the smaller people take the smaller spacemouse and pair it with a small streamdeck. Have you tried to use the loupedeck for CAD? is that even worth considering?
I have a Loupedeck and it’s not that good for CAD. I tried it, but it’s laggy and you can’t really do much other than program some hot keys

I’m left handed can I use it in my right and my normal mouse on my left? It looks ambidextrous.
I've gotten pretty used to using the Stream deck with Sketchup.
These would mean retraining muscle memory.

I was thinking of buying one of the cheaper ones, as I just got into Shaper3D. I couldn't help but notice some little platform thingy behind you mouse. I've been googling around, and unable to figure out how you mapped a button to switch workspaces in Fusion 360. I've kinda hacked getting back to the design workspace with the any shortcut plugin, but it won't let me switch to the manufacture workspace. Thoughts?
Mine is just a workaround. I mapped the key to cycle through the different workspaces. Since I only use Fusion 360 for CAM, it works well for me to assign the key to jump to manufacture from design. But if I need to go back to design, I’ll need to press it a few times to cycle through the other workspaces
I used an old style Spacemouse (with the ball. Yeah way back when). Once you get used to these you won't want to model without it if you do any type of 3D modeling for CAD/CAM. Will this work in the non commercial version of Fusion 360? I can't find the answer online. All the reviewers us the commercial version. It would make modeling fun again.

What about for game play, like a 3d world shootem up game?

With the smallest one I know that some people use a DIY macropad for shortcuts trough QMK
I haven’t used that one. Not sure how well it works

When Shapr3D was first adding support for 3Dconnexion, I did this video for them to demonstrate the importance of Lock Horizon. Also the center of rotation was important to show. Their beta was a little rough at that time but it all works quite well now.

I love those 3D Mice. I had one when learning CAD/CAM like 18 years ago with Mastercam and SURFCAM. I think it wasn't even called a SpaceMouse back then. I don't do it much anymore, but using 3D software without one still feels wrong.
Your justification for having the computer mouse on the right side being because you're right handed seems absolutely bizarre to me. I'm left handed and I use the mouse on the right side too. Aren't 95% of mice ergonomically shaped for the right hand anyway? I don't think I've ever seen anyone use a mouse in their left hand. Just imagining it feels so alien to me!
I just meant I still use both a regular mouse and a space mouse. Some people have the space mouse setup on the right side and will use a track pad on their left side. And a few companies make left-handed mice, one of them being 3Dconnexion
I'm left-handed and use a left-handed mouse. Right hand uses the SpaceMouse. It couldn't possibly work the other way around for me, not without months/years of relearning.

Exocad is supported. I have not personally used it though. There are videos of people using it with Exocad though
Nice story. But: The guy that has used a shit ton of 3D mice in his job as a designer for the automotive industry is oblivious about this fact in his job as a designer of furniture until the manufacturer of these tools comes back on him to sell their product.

I have one of those for years now and they are awesome. But if I was ever to forget about this fact I would stay away from any design software due to the fact that my brain morphed into mush.
